I recently visited Miss Toya's Creole House for brunch, and overall I had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was welcoming, the restaurant was clean, and the staff made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. One of the highlights was the bottomless brunch, which made for a fun and enjoyable experience. The food was full of flavor and tasted fresh. Every dish was well-seasoned that keeps you coming back for more. The portions were satisfying, and everything arrived hot and beautifully presented. What stood out the most was the hospitality. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The only downside to our visit was the live band performing inside the restaurant. While the music added to the atmosphere, it was so loud that we couldn't comfortably hear the people at our table or have a conversation. Miss Toya's Creole House -- Silver Spring, MD (3/5) Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The outdoor area approaching was really nice and had a pleasant vibe, and the inside ambiance was cool too -- good atmosphere overall. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. We were told we couldn't be seated in a booth because of a section closure, but about 10 minutes later a family was seated in that same section. When we asked about it, we were told staff "thought the staff was leaving" -- which didn't really add up and felt like an inconsistent excuse. It also took about 20 minutes for anyone to greet our table, and another 10 minutes after that just to get water. Once we did order, there wasn't much guidance from staff -- no recommendations on best sellers or specifics about the entrees, just general "it's good" responses across the board. Food-wise, it was a mixed bag: Seafood egg rolls -- really good Stuffed shrimp -- really good Spinach dip -- not the best Lamb chops (my entree) -- two good ones, two very fatty chops that were not good around 8/10 they were seasoned well! Mashed potatoes -- not good Spinach side -- not good bland, needed seasoning Mac n cheese -- pretty good Overall the meat itself was underwhelming given the price point/expectations, seasoning was it! The food had some genuine highlights, but between the slow service, the seating mix-up, and a few misses on the sides, the overall experience didn't quite live up to expectations. Since my last review back in 2024, I have to say that the service at this location has gone down. For our most recent visit, I'm not sure if the struggles in service is due to the restaurant being understaffed, a change in management, or a lack of training. From my last few experiences during weekend brunch, service has been really hit or miss with mostly misses. For instance, tell me how your food arrives to the table before the silverware does (even after making several requests for silverware). Another example, after waiting close to 15 minutes for a simple glass of ice, I took it upon myself to go to the bar and get my glass of ice. Shoot, we could not even leave when we wanted to because it took forever to get the check. Once again, I ended up going inside to ask the hostess to give us our check. Of course, the restaurant adds a 20% gratuity to all checks so patrons have the privilege to pay for crappy service. With the outdoor seating, I don't know if the waiters forget about their customers outside, i.e., "out of sight, out of mind". If the restaurant cannot provide the same service outside as they do inside, then maybe they should get rid of the patio seating. IF I dine at Miss Toya's in the future, I will be sure to dine only at the bar...at least it will be easier to flag someone down when I need something. Well Miss Toyas never disappoints. What another amazing experience. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the friendly hostess who immediately took us to our table. From there we were greeted by our waiter who was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable on the menu. He was a great waiter. After viewing the menu we chose to order the Caribbean lamb chops with sweet potatoes and garlic spinach as well as the chargrilled oysters. The oysters were phenomenal. They had great Cajun flavor and cooked to perfection. The lamb chops were delicious as well. They were cooked to my desired temperature. They were very flavorful and tender. The spinach and sweet potatoes were delicious as well. The ambiance was very nice. Quiet with a good r&b playlist playing in the background. We went for an early dinner so it was great . I went there today for Sunday brunch. The restaurant is beautiful. The staff is fantastic! We had the best service from our server (I didn't catch her name but she was extra sweet). I'm holding back a couple of stars for food and ambience . I ordered the fried deviled eggs for a starter. Great idea but it was a tad dry. For my entree I had fried catfish and grits. Cooked very well but the grits seemed a bit bland. There was a performer playing the saxophone today for the brunch. Ok I was skeptical bc the reviews aren't that great but my friend has been here and said the food was good! I ordered the jambalaya oysters, small size gumbo and the voodoo shrimp! My issue is our food came out before the drinks like 30 MINUTES before! I don't like that! Cocktails are always first! And I can understand if it was busy but there was almost no one here! Either way, we got all our food before the drinks and the voodoo shrimp was my fav! Not too spicy but just right amount of heat! I don't do trendy and this place is packed (allegedly) on the weekend so I've never done brunch, which is apparently a huge draw, but I decided to take myself for an impromptu week day happy hour. Tragically, there were 8 people there at 5:30 on a Thursday. I sat in the bar because it was dimmer and cozier and the bartender was polite if slow. He listened to my specifications and made a couple of recommendations, but I ended up just ordering small plates because it was just me and I didn't want to waste food. I ordered collards, fried green tomatoes and the fried deviled eggs. Baby. It was all fire. But I wish I'd gotten an entree after all because I ended up with to go boxes anyway. One note for the collards, they're a bit low on the dimension in the seasonings and they definitely add a bit more sugar than I like (if I can taste it, it's tew much!!!) so get the hot sauce! And the fried green tomatoes are crisp, definitely the perfect texture but they're stingy with the sauce just ask for extra up front. That said, I will be back. The ambiance is lovely and the menu is phenomenal and I'd love to try the lamb chops, so I must revisit. I was never in a rush to try Miss Toya's because I've heard such mixed reviews. I went on a date here a few weeks ago and although the atmosphere was nice, there was a mouse running around as I was dining. While I understand some restaurants have pests, I do not believe I should be able to see them as I'm dining. In addition to this, the food was nothing special. Had a great visit to Miss Toya's for lunch. The Host, Wait, and Bar staff were great. The Wait staff were very attentive. Natalie ensured my party always had beverages and food coming to the table. We tried smoked old fashions and Louisiana Tea. Both drinks were great. Smoked old fashion comes to the table with wooden smoking cap on it. When it was removed, all of those wonderful flavored smoke were released. For lunch, we tried the burgers and gumbo. Burgers looked good. The gumbo looked fantastic. I will say, growing up in the South, that the gumbo tasted a little lighter in flavor than I was expecting, but it was still a good meal. Such a wonderful experience! Stopped here for lunch with my sister and dad on a Thursday afternoon. The place was otherwise empty aside from a handful of people sat at the bar. We were sat at a booth and were greeted by our server Adrianna. We ordered some drinks and the seafood egg rolls. They came out hot and fresh and were delicious with the remoulade sauce. I also had the jambalaya oysters and the honey Caribbean salmon. Those oysters were the star of the show and I will be coming back JUST for those. The salmon was a nice hearty filet, tender and juicy. My father had the shrimp and grits and licked his plate clean. My sister had the gumbo and said that was delicious as well. We had the pleasure of having the manager Lance come sit with us during the last few mins of our meal and he let us know about their weekend brunch and other items on the menu that are his favorite. We went to Miss Toya's Creole restaurant for our anniversary on Friday, 13 June. But there is no bad luck just good food. We both had fish. I have the red snapper. My husband had catfish.. The catfish was perfectly fried because the meat was tender, but not greasy. I also treated myself to seafood mac & cheese, which was more seafood than pasta, which is a switch. Usually restaurants will fill it up with cheese and macaroni and give you a little bits of seafood. Not Miss Toya. They were a couple of shrimp, big shrimps. And lots of seafood tucked inside of the creamy and very cheesy gooey gooey cheesy mac & cheese. I brought home the sauce that came with the fish because I didn't want the fish taste to be masked with the sauce cause it tasted so good. So I'll toss it in with some quinoa on another day. The catfish had no comment from my husband so it must've been good. The fried rice that he had was nothing to write home about. I tasted it myself and decided not to carry at home when he didn't want it. But it doesn't mean that they get less of a star because of that fact. The service was great . Our server didn't hover over us. Just gave us enough attention that we didn't feel neglected. She also was able to do Apple Pay at the table, which is the only way that I pay since my card was compromised at another restaurant last year. We had a reservation, and my friends were seated right away. I joined them immediately, so I can say the reservations are on point. We opted for the bottomless brunch, plus bottomless mimosas (served in a pitcher), and honestly that was the best decision. I tried several dishes and enjoyed almost everything. The only miss for me was the charbroiled mussels--I just wanted them broiled a bit more. Everything else was a hit. The wings were excellent and came out piping hot every time. The catfish and grits were hearty and filling. The spinach artichoke dip was flavorful, and the fried shrimp had a great texture (and I'm picky because I don't usually like shrimp!). My friends got the crab legs and deep-fried deviled eggs, and they gave both a big thumbs-up. As far as the service, our waitress was attentive and informative. She was on top of everything. Came to Miss Toyas for brunch with the ladies and they owe us nothing! We pretty much tried half of the whole menu and I would have ordered more but didn't want to be bursting at all the seams lol. The GM Rodney was on site with a friendly candor and checked on us from time to time and helped with dishes that didn't come out or were prolonged. The Lowdown: A lot of the dishes weren't pipping hot and you need that especially with fried food such as the wings, catfish, grits, and dishes like pasta. I know it's difficult when serving AYCE foods but it also takes away from the experience. My grits and an after taste that didn't sit right with those who tried or ordered them. The shrimp used in the gross and alfredo were the same steamed one note season blend which took away from the dish causing it to not marry completely. The wings have perfect seasoning and crunch, I'd definitely prefer them again. The subtle hint of corn from the pancakes were prefect and some cinnamon butter on top would have been perfect. I was excited about the charbroiled oysters only for them to not be truly charbroiled and topped with way too much cheese that I believe was mozzarella and thick instead of light parmesan. The fried deviled eggs were a tasty treat playing on different textures of soft and crunchy. The crab meat was sweet but definitely don't try to eat in one bite, go ahead and take two bites at least. The bang bang shrimp were good and y'all know I love fresh jalapeños which hat me wanting to order again. There was the perfect amount of sauce drizzled on top. This was was just short of a disaster. When we first walked in, we were greeted warmly by who I assume was the host but there was another young lady behind the counter who gave us a weird, almost nasty look, and handed the menus to another team member. No biggie - we didn't want her to serve us anyway. Then came Tonique to the rescue - her and the spinach dip with crab are the ONLY reason this place is even getting two stars. After we were sat, Tonique warmly greeted us and we felt instantly at ease. After she gave her spiel, we were left to our own devices to make selections for dinner. We started at one table but the original hostess and was kind enough to inform us a large party was arriving and would be seated behind us and she didnt want us to be disturbed so she offered us another table (side note: the large party of 9 were almost too quiet so there wasnt anything to worry about). Fast forward to our new table and Tonique popped over again to get our drinks. Their cocktail list was extensive but we rarely, if ever, drink hard liquor so we tried to go with the wine selections. The selections she rattled off were unavailable but we made due with what was available. It started off well with the spinach dip and we added crab. I think they used wonton crisps which was appreciated. I'm pretty certain they use frozen spinach in the dip as it was very wilted, flavorful but wilted. We also ordered the rockerfeller oysters and charbroiled oysters - both of which were meh. As someone whose been to NoLa too many times - you know what a good oyster is and that wasnt it. Then the entrees came out - not great. To be fair, Tonique was kind enough to try to steer me away from what I ordered in the nicest way possible saying I should "take a chance" and try something "different" but I thought it was going to give... it didnt. My wife's dish wasnt bad, it just wasnt great - she got the catfish and I got the chicken. The stoneground cheesy grits had good flavor tho. We ordered the burger, salmon bites, and two shrimp and grits with crab... a few drinks.... order it all and thank the chef! Everything was amazing! My shrimp and grits needed a bit more sauce but babyyyyy it waa gooodt. So good I went back a week later for the sauce and the amazing chef and Taiylor were about to do some level of magic and got me some of that sauce for my leftovers!!! I love a good steak and cheese egg roll, and adding a lil' lump crab meat & sweet chili sauce never hurt nobody. First of all, let's talk about these healthy portions. There were 2 big pieces of catfish with plenty of mashed potatoes and a good amount of vegetables. I love it when the chef isn't afraid to use seasoning. I didn't have to add salt or pepper to anything. The dish came with a side of hot sauce, but I opted for other sauces instead. I believe the server brought my some aioli and a Creole sauce, and both paired well with the fish. I didn't have any complaints about my meal. My brother let me taste his seafood mac & cheese and it was delicious. Maybe I'll order it on my next visit. I was a little disappointed with my drink. I believe my brother ordered a hurricane and I had a blueberry mule mocktail. For $12, they should've put that drink in a bigger glass. I know that little cup is what's traditionally used for a mule so in that case, they should've lowered the price. It was a good mocktail, but for that price I definitely wouldn't order it again. For dessert I had a slice of banana cheesecake, covered with banana slices, crushed cookies, and drizzled with caramel. This scrumptious dessert was the perfect ending to my delicious meal. Upon entering the restaurant we were treated by Roger who was very nice and pleasant. He had a fun personality and made us all laugh. Mariah was our server she was extremely sweet! Shout out to her for running 2 sections this night as someone had called out. She was busy but she did try her hardest to make sure we were okay. Due to the restaurant being busy there were long wait times for food and drink. I have visited previously and service was definitely faster. The food was great some shoutouts, the Hot Honey Salmon Bites, Cornbread and steak! The one improvement would be working on ensuring courses for a party all arrive at the same time or relatively close.
