First off, Hands down the best transmission shop in the bay. Not only were the prices less than others but also the time frame given to complete it...was nearly half as long. I came in for a full rebuild on my s40 manual transmission (for my Honda Civic) and they were quick to help and take on the work....Right off the bat i was pleased with them. I also was referred to them by numerous high end shops (which speaks for there credibility). This Shop is very down to Earth and legit. No beating around the bush. (In a good way) After they rebuilt it as fast as they could for me, we installed it and noticed that it was grinding on one of the gears still. This was a 1-Off situation and not normal at all and Kevin handled it like a true and honest business man. Instead of pointing fingers, he told me to bring it by and we checked everything. The issue with the transmission was an honest miscommunication between the shop and I. When we finally figured out the issue.... instead of hanging me out to dry....Kevin stepped up and helped me out the best he could (He was under no liability too, just a Great Business Owner who cared for his customer) . He fixed the issue in under TWO HOURS of having the transmission. Not only am I thankful for everything they did, I owe them big time for helping me. These guys are honest, straight to the point, and quick. In this type of business that is literally the best you can ask for. I am so sorry this took so long to write. I have a 1955 Thunderbird with a Borg Warner OD manual transmission. After having the transmission rebuilt due to linkage and leaking problems, I was very frustrated. My transmission still wasn't right and still was leaking. My OD (overdrive) also was not functioning. I called All Standard Transmission and describe my problems and was surprised to find that they not only knew transmissions but were very familiar with the Borg Warner type. They found multiple problems with the previous rebuilds and when I came to the shop I was shown the defects that weren't fixed by the other two shops and we also discussion my OD problem (wasn't engaging). There in the shop, we found a 6 volt OD solenoid to replace the old one on my transmission that had frayed wires. Transmission is still working great and I am so grateful to find someone who not only knows modern technology when it comes to transmissions but also has the knowledge to work on "antiques" especially the Borg Warner OD transmissions that NO transmission shop in the area that I called had a clue about. I went there because I noticed a grinding sound under my car-hood because it was near me. They ended up informing that my belt needed to be replaced for $65, water pump replacement $130, coolant $50, and 2x Labs ?!? for $360. When I said I couldn't wait 3 hours to have them replace/fix everything for around $630, they had already starting taking parts out of my car. I told them that I needed to leave, they put the parts back into my car and it sounded way worst than when I brought it in there initial. I ended up going to a different auto body shop who informed me that all I needed was a new water pump and coolant for a total of $350. They also said my belt was fine and didn't need to be replaced. They finished in about 1 hour compared to here, where they said it would take around 3. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE, unless you want to get ripped off. read more

Late review, but couldn't be happier with my experience with All Standard. Got my transaxle rebuilt here about 5 months ago, and it's been working perfectly ever since. I believe it was Will who did my rebuild, and he even knew exactly what was wrong with the trans just from my explanation of the symptoms. Apparently the main shaft pinion bearing goes out quite often on Toyota C-series transaxles. All Standard quoted me for a full rebuild, but allowed me to leave certain parts of the rebuild out for a lower cost (at the expense of no warranty, which I believe is fair). Overall: super knowledgeable staff, great work, and reasonable pricing. read more

They never got the invoice to the primary shop: endless excuses; I got yelled at on the phone. All I want is the legal invoice with labor, parts, and tax -- just too much to ask for. Maybe they replaced all the bearings, and perhaps they didn't. I think they did 80% of the work and called the rest good, which maybe it is, but they didn't want to own up to their shortcuts. I had to have the transmission pulled a second time and sent back because it leaked -- I was a heavy equipment shop manager for a sizeable heavy-equipment company with Union-educated techs and can say if these were techs in my shop, I'd have sent them on their way to new pastures: zero patience for these types of games. read more

5.9 stars!!!!! Looked all over the U.S. on the Internet for a transmission for my 94 pick up and could not find a rebuilt one. Finally I hooked up with All Transmission right hear I Campbell (go figure) He had a rebuilt one ready to exchange for $950 with a 1 year warranty. In case you were wondering I was quoted $1,700 at another place to rebuild mine. So this was a no brainer. I put the exchange one in, let me tell you it shifts better then mine when it was ne. No play in the shifter, nice and quiet and shifts smooth as silk. The owner has been at this location for over 30 years. Hands down this is the place to bring your manuel transmission if you got a problem. (Side note, even the dealership is bringing transmissions to them) this guy knows his stuff. (But what do I know I mean I'm only a former ASE certified master mechanic with 25 years experience working exclusively on BMWs. Peace out) read more

Kevin came highly recommended and rightfully so. He's definitely a bit of a character with lots of stories as he's been rebuilding transmissions a while. First transmission was from my '65 Mustang Fastback and was a bit of an oddball Dagenheim four speed. Kevin went above and beyond to search the internet along with his suppliers to find all of the parts necessary for a 50yo uncommon build. Second transmission is an A833 four speed from my '66 426 hemi. It was previously rebuilt but sat without fluid for six years and developed an internal rust issue. I did some research on who in the area could rebuild my t5, and every single person I talked to said to go to Kevin. I was a little reluctant at first off of an oddball review, but decided to go talk with him anyways. - best decision ever. I walked in with the tranny and told him what was going on, told him that it grinds 2nd, 3rd, and 4th while getting stuck in fourth quite often. He told me he would tear it down and inspect what was wrong. All while trying to 'ball on a budget' as I am still a broke college student. He gave me a call not 6 hours later telling me he had torn it down and had looked it over. He didn't want to quote me until I came down to see what he was talking about. So I went down later that day and he walked me through every part in the transmission, recommending what should be replaced, what could be used again, etc. He even went through the trouble of finding good parts to compare the bad parts to, just to show me the difference. He was very straight forward with me unlike most other shops I have dealt with. All in all, we decided what would suite me best, and I decided to rebuild it, reusing some parts. He told me he would have it done in a very reasonable time frame (less than a week) and then called me the next day to tell me it was ready to be picked up!!! All while meeting my initial budget! After my experience, I couldn't help but realize that the oddball review was clearly a mishap, not something that reflects Kevin's work in anyway shape or form. I will be recommending all my friends/family to Kevin for any MT work needed in the future. And I will be coming back the next time I have transmission issues! read more

I rebuilt my Jeep Wrangler AX-15 5 speed, with the guidance of my uncle who is a mechanic who rebuilt transmissions professionally. This was my first transmission rebuild. Kevin talked me through with advice, and sold me the parts I needed. I had some troubles after, and my engine died shortly after (at 286k miles). We're stroking that so while its out I brought the transmission in. Apparently we did a good job on the rebuild, yet there were other worn parts we had not replaced. He identified them and checked our work. Since I'm a dying breed who will only drive manual, Kevin will be my go to guy in all circumstances. He is also a pleasure to work with. If you are looking for someone who REALLY knows all about transmissions, it is Kevin. I am restoring a vintage Corvette Stingray with a Muncie transmission that had been rebuilt, but of unknown origin. I noticed excessive play in one shift arm, which raised my suspicions as to the quality of rebuild. I stopped by Hot Rod Service in Campbell (another quality shop), and they highly recommended Kevin. After my experience, I definitely agree. As I was doing a frame off restoration, I pulled the Muncie and took it to Kevin for his expert opinion. While it was mostly rebuilt correctly, he found an incorrect shift lever assembly (hence the excess play), a worn shift arm, a missing gasket and alignment pin. He also recommended upgrading to a heavy duty bearing given the HP of my engine build. The work was done expertly and quickly. If you are rebuilding a vintage sports or muscle car, you owe it to yourself to have the transmission done right by an expert. There are a lot of good engine builders out there, but don't expect many of them to know enough about transmissions to rebuild one correctly. read more

The shifting on my newly rebuilt transmission was poor with frequent synchro grinding, so I contacted Kevin to ask if he'd take a look at it. Kevin refused, stating I must have a clutch problem and that he doesn't warranty racing applications at all. I explained that I'd aggressively checked for clutch problems. The car had zero clutch drag at redline in 1st gear with the wheels in the air and the clutch fork was articulating correctly: you could hear the input shaft spin up/down at the expected friction point. Kevin wasn't receptive and again insisted he has no warranty. Frustrated, I ran an endurance road race this past weekend with the T5 Kevin built. I and 4 other drivers ran practice laps with Kevin's transmission to get a feel for how it shifts, then voted to see if we'd rather continue to run it in the race the next day or replace it with a used T5 of unknown origin/miles I bought on Craigslist as a spare for $75. My drivers and I were all very dissatisfied with the shifting of Kevin's transmission, complaining of frequent grinding and near lock-out in normal use in both up and downshifts despite careful rev matching. We voted to replace it with the $75 Craigslist special and spent the next few hours swapping it trackside. During the swap, we went to great pains to avoid changing any non-transmission parts to allow for a direct transmission comparison. The clutch disc and pressure plate were never touched, the master/slave were never bled or disconnected from each other (the slave unbolts from the outside of the bell housing)), we re-used the shifter and filled it with the same GM synchromesh fluid. My drivers and I all agreed that the $75 Craigslist special shifted dramatically better, allowing easy heel toe 4-3 and 3-2 downshifts and effortless 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts without grinding. It continued to work well for many hours of road racing without any degradation, further evidence we didn't have a clutch problem. In my direct experience, a $75 Craigslist transmission performed better than a $1000 rebuild from Kevin. I am keeping Kevin's transmission (along with my receipt for the rebuild) and will happily loan it to any fellow racers interested in evaluating it for themselves. read more
