Every time I go into the mountains my transmission starts getting hot. For a while I've also had this banging clinking sound under my truck from stops and starts. I do a google search and it's just like looking for medical advice, according to google my truck is dying. I spoke with Alex and he said bring it in. I get a call later in the day and he says my transmission is fine but has some recommendations. I took his advice, they changed some valve in my transmission and also greased the driveline. My BMW had "transmission malfunction" message on central display. Auto Trans would shift past 3rd Car would not rev up and Alex called me told me Crankshaft Position Sensor needed replacement 2A94 code He could not go on (work on transmission) Till he addressed this issue first I thought for sure I needed work on the transmission He reassured me, if that (sensor) was not the problem, he would not charge me for the replacement, after I insisted for him to look into the transmission. So, I agreed to replacing the sensor. Well, come to find out "That Was The Problem!" Alex is an Honest man! I gladly paid the bill. Saved me thousands of dollars Told me if I ever have a problem with the transmission, he would look into it. But, for now shifts and NO check engine light I even serviced the transmission valve body before taking to B&J, which I probably didn't even need to do! Now, 26 mpg on highway was getting 22 mpg! I brought my 2008 Toyota Tacoma in for what I thought needed a transmission flush due to vibrations I was feeling on D at the 30-40 mile an hour mark. Upon further inspection it turned out that I had a leak in my radiator which caused fluid to enter the transmission and mix together. They were able to rebuild my tranny, purchase a new radiator and they also noticed my alternator needed replacing. He made sure to break down what needed to be done in laymen's terms which I was very thankful for. He also showed all the transmission parts they replaced as well as all the damaged pieces. I would like to say if I can give Alex 6 stars I would. Absolutely amazing place to take your vehicle in for any transmission issues. My Chevys torque convert and pump went out and he had me a new truck in less then 5 days. He broke down the Whole engine for me before ordering parts. Saved the old engine parts to be able to provide a visual image on what happened to my baby. I have to say the same time last year I had to replace my transmission in my Toyota and got completely ripped off. This was a completely different experience by far. With that being said my Toyota that I just put a new transmission in is already given me check engine light and codes on replacement on a part in the transmission. Alex and his team do outstanding work and their pricing is very reasonable, considering the quality of their work. You can try and bargain hunt a cheaper place, but the saying is so true... You get what you pay for. I've had B&J repair the transmission on my 2003 Honda Pilot (a known problem on these cars), Alex gave me options for a complete rebuild or just a repair of the current issues. Happy to say the car is still going strong and running perfectly. Most recently he installed a used transmission on my son's 2002 Explorer and his pricing was very reasonable. He performed some initial inspections on the used transmission I had supplied to confirm it did not have any obvious problems before installing it and the car is running and driving great. The best tranny mechanics in San Jose. Quality work, reasonable rates, excellent service. I took my old '92 4Runner 4x4 in this morning because I know Alex knows 4Runners. Not only did they do a great job, but Alex was able to give me some advice as to how I could keep her running for many more miles. Also he spotted a valve cover gasket leak before I did, and my head is usually under the hood every weekend!! The mechanics are top-notch and the prices are good. My one negative comment is that they are busy all the time! You gotta get there early or at least before 2pm because by then, they're booked for the rest of the day. It's easy to see why.... this place is the very definition of "professional"! When they were done with my tranny flush & fill, Alex dug my old tranny fluid filter out of the trash to show me the condition of the old filter as well as the fluid. Nice! So glad i found B & J Transmissions. I got a referral from my regular mechanic who i really trust and so glad that i did. My torque converter went out, freezing the pump and damaged some rings in the transmission on my Dodge Ram truck. Alex was very professional and was able to explain exactly what happened. He gave me a price for the parts and labor he knew i would need and explained that depending on what they find inside, additional charges would be involved. I was so happy to get the call that those changes were only going to be about $300. wheewww. I was bracing for much worse news. I told him of my situation with sharing a car with my wife and even with the additional parts needed, he called the morning of the day he said he would be finished, so i think 7 hours earlier than i was expecting. He went over the parts that were bad and the work they had done and i am so satisified with their work and Alex's professionalism. My car no longer leaks & the check engine light stays off. B& J fixed it. I had taken it to other shops twice before and they fixed various things and my light would stay off for a time but then it would come back on and my car never stopped leaking until B&J fixed it. It cost over $1000 but another mechanic said that I should have the whole transmission replaced for $4000. My 2005 Camry would shudder around 40 MPH under load. After replacing the spark plugs, balancing the wheels, and flushing the transmission, the shudder was still there. Forums on the Internet all pointed to the torque converter as the culprit. Based on very positive Yelp reviews, I called B&J and talked with Alex. A couple of hours after he got the car, he called to say that the transmission was fine and the shudder was coming from bad front axles. They replaced the axles and I got the car back 24 hours later. I have put only 30 miles on the car since then and it appears that the shudder is gone. Without asking, Alex showed me the old axles. This place offers all I could possibly want from a mechanic---they are professional and know what they are doing, they are courteous and patient, explaining the options and giving you the information you need to have to make a choice, they stick to their promises and timeline, and they are even reasonably priced. We needed to overhaul our transmission (2001 VW Cabrio), so they took it apart, cleaned it up, literally laid it out for us, and explained which parts absolutely needed replacing to get things to work again and which were optional, and the cost of either. The cost was in the range they had given us on the phone (which was on the lower end of what other places had quoted us, which is how we got to B&J), so we made our choice, and are still happy with the result. I liked the no-nonsense interaction with those folks, and as someone who used to be a car person in a former life, I appreciate their knowledge and professionalism. They even agreed to fix a wheel bearing that had been noisy for a while, and which another mechanic failed to diagnose properly, and here, too, their price was on the low end. I had an excellent experience with B&J Transmissions, customer service and work product. My daughter drove home from school my 5 spd manual trans 2004 Honda Civic. First time I drove it afterward, it was making a bad transmission noise. Other trans shops said they don't rebuild manual trannys anymore and wanted $2500 to $3000 to install a shipped rebuilt trans. I was told few people rebuild this transmission anymore. I luckily found B&J, who accurately told me what the problem was (front end main bearing) with a parking lot diagnosis (subject to real garage inspection). Turned out that main front bearing was all that was wrong, and i got it in soon enough before the metal parts floating around in the trans damaged more parts. I limped the car into his lot at near closing time on Saturday. He said he would call Monday AM when he could get it inspected and call Honda for parts quotes. He reliably called Monday AM, and apologized that it would take about 1 week because the technician he had that was trained in manual rebuilds was backed up at the moment; he wanted the right tech to do my job. I got the car back when he promised it would be ready. Total cost was less than $900, right at their estimate. (Additionally I had the clutch replaced since they were in there and it was almost due anyway. This was not part of a pushy sales job.) I've owned many cars, done much of my own work, including engine rebuilds, purchased a lot of service from a lot of auto businesses. I felt that the owners (B&J) were very straightforward to deal with, were genuinely honest people, very skilled in the craft, and ran a great operation. I highly recommend them. read more

Our engine light came on and we took our 2002 Dodge Durango to our local mechanic and he said it was a transmission error code that popped up and referred us to B & J Transmissions. He said to ask for Alex and told us he's a great guy and runs an honest shop and that they are reasonably priced. We called and spoke to Alex and made an appointment. We gave Alex the error code and he explained the possible problem and told us what to expect best case and worst case so we knew exactly what we were in for based on the results of the inspection. We called on a Tuesday and they were able to get us scheduled for Thursday morning. We pulled up and it looked very busy and I was concerned if they would be able to get to our car quickly. We dropped it off and about 2 hours later received a call from Alex who let us know they had already inspected the transmission and the problem was fairly minor and would be fixed that day! He quoted us a very fair price and said he would have the work completed in a few hours. I was very impressed from start to finish with B & J's service. They even showed us the bad parts and explained exactly what happed! I'm not sure what other services they offer but if you need transmission work this is the place to take your vehicle. Horrible experience here... Took my car to get a simple inspection and maybe find out why the motor wasn't giving me that much power. It takes these guys 8 days ..for a simple inspection... who the hell takes that long... ridiculous.. I finally get it back.. covered in dust. They give me a list of what the car needs replaced etc and told me the engine looks good running strong maybe it's the carburetor. Got the carb re tuned same problem.. Few months later I take it to another shop and within 15 min they tell me my transmission is the cause of the power loss! ‍ in my head these guys at B&J specialize in TRANSMISSIONS! and had the car for 8 days test drove it and couldn't tell me that the transmission was the cause for my power/acceleration loss ... come on... B&J TRANSMISSIONS!.. that's sad.. won't be coming back. read more

I recently had problems on my 2001 Dodge Caravan. The not-uncommon issue of the solenoid pack. This shop was very professional, and very reasonable. It turned out that the problem was much more complicated than it first appeared, and B&J dealt with it really well. Car experiences like this can often be a real drag, but B&J dealt with it reasonably and intelligently. Also cool: when I dropped off my car, I had my bike with me to get back home, but it started raining. They gave me a ride home and threw my bike in the back of the truck. Thanks much!
