Never found one and thus was never able to walk into the shop until last Friday when I was at the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission over on Stockton Street. After our appeals hearing was over (successfully), I decided this was the best chance to get over there. It was about a quarter mile away, but it was a nice day for a walk. The store was larger than expected, with a big kitchen area and several tables around the perimeter. The bagel selection was depleted at 10:30, but I ordered an Everything Bagel, Butter and Swiss and Java from the pleasant women behind the counter. The $3.50 price for all this was a pleasant surprise. Left the balance of my fin in the tip jar. On first bite it was obvious that my bagel was no longer fresh from the oven, and had been around at least since early in the morning. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't at its apex texture and taste. Looking toward the rear of the space I tried to find evidence of baking on premises, but could neither see, hear nor smell anything like hot dough in the air. Could well be that the bagels were created elsewhere and delivered. Not a problem when the bread is fresh, but tends to staleness before a round hole baked only a few feet away. The coffee was that "Law" company product. Not the best brew for take out as it drifts into bitterness as it cools. Glad I finally checked out Trenton Bagel, but given the difficulty of approaching the shop via auto, and the step below first quality of both its namesake and the Joe, there is no urge to return anytime soon.

The portion size/cost was very fair, this was 2 meals for me. My only critique would be on the Cooper American cheese used. I would prefer a sharper cheese, Cooper sharp or even provolone. I'll inquire if there are other options. Even if there weren't, I'd still get this anytime. I saw several other lunch items of interest to me, and in the right frame of mind and early enough several breakfast options too. Service was friendly and fast.
