Looking at the most recent reviews for All Star Bike Shop, it probably makes a lot of people second guess visiting the store. I'm glad that I am one of those people who didn't hesitate to visit, as I was met immediately by a staff member asking if there was anything they could help me with and if there was anything in particular I was looking for. I had already found the bike I was wanting to test ride but my eye caught another one that I felt was more suited for me. I love that they tune the bike up prior to you test riding it and not just pulling the bike off of the rack and sending you on your way. They instruct you on where to ride that is safe and to take as much time as you would like to make sure the bike is going to be the right fit for you. I never felt pressured with upsells on accessories. I did buy them but they were also things I needed anyways. Previous reviews had mentioned a limit on occupancy and I did not see where they were limiting occupancy to 2 people at a time, however masks are required to enter. I really enjoyed working with the staff that helped me (I'm sorry I didn't get their names) and really appreciated the staff member that assisted me with getting my bike into my car and showing me how to take the front wheel off. I highly recommend All Star Bikes and will definitely be back in the future for an upgrade or new bike for my husband. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but I had such a fantastic experience today at Conte's Bike Shop, formerly known as All Star Bike Shop. I have an older beach cruiser that needed repairs. I was concerned that the repairs might exceed the bike's value, so I called and spoke with Michael. He assured me that they would assess the issue for free and inform me of the cost before proceeding with any work. When I brought my bike in today, they were friendly, took me in right away, diagnosed the issue on the spot, and repaired it at no charge! This experience couldn't have been any better. They have gained a customer for life. I highly recommend visiting this place for bike repairs or purchases. 5 stars! read more

First encounter was friendly, after saying I had moved with a single speed from Chicago that was geared high for flat city riding, they suggested I bring it in to change the freewheel to a larger size, a quick and simple job. However, the mechanic I interacted with later when I brought the bike in was super rude and dismissive. He ended up inspiring me to go online and buy my own freewheel remover and chain splitter, a higher quality freewheel than they had available, and a new chain to just do it myself. Sounds like they would have gouged me on labor anyway, so I'm glad I went that route. Everybody we've met in Raleigh has been so friendly, so it was kind of a shock to have such a bad experience here, especially when I was trying to spend money with them. read more

Nothing like spending hundreds of dollars on a bike, getting promised the sun and the moon... and then when you return in a couple of months for a tuneup you're talked down to and lectured about how businesses are run and they simply can't hold on to the bike and don't have appointments available for several weeks ... etc. etc. thanks for nothing! read more

I purchased a bike and a child trailer at the shop. The prices were are reasonable compared to online options, and the people at the shop are polite. This is why I debated if I should give 3 stars However, I was very disappointed with the technical service. My bike was never really working well although the shop guarantees one year of tune ups. In one of my 4 attempts to get the bike fixed, after every time I was asked to take the bike for a spin before I confirm the bike is good, I asked the technician if he took the bike for a spin before letting me try the bike. He said he doesnt do it and this was very disappointing. My problem was in uphills under load, as I repeatedly told them, and the area around the shop is flat. In my last visit I specifically asked the to check and ride the bike before they call me to pick it up. They later texted me I need a new part and there was a small fee. Although it was still within one year of my purchase and should be under warranty I decided to take my bike elsewhere and not to argue with them. This is because I had this issue from the beginning, and I used the bike very little only on paved roads (it is a mountain train bike). I figured it is too time consuming for me to visit the shop every time for this issue instead of enjoying my bike on the weekends. read more

I found all star bikes online based on pretty good reviews for the chain in general, and I felt we were lucky enough to get our two road bikes into the shop this summer on short notice. We both got tune-ups and the shop did everything in the time expected, at the price quoted, without trying to upsell us on anything. The bikes were nicely cleaned and well oiled. We could both tell the bikes had needed the tune-up. That being said, we both have had issues with our shifters since. It was clear no one test-road my partners bike because his derailer had issues immediate upon riding it. We took it back in the week after and they fixed it quickly, but it was something that would have been caught on a 2 minute test ride by the shop. I've also had some issues with my shifting and realized it outside of their 30-day guarantee, so I will go elsewhere to have mine fixed and I know it should be a pretty minor adjustment. It's unclear to me why these issues occurred and if it's just one person who needs more experience with adjusting shifters or if it's a bigger issue in the shop with quality control. The shop seems to otherwise run well on the front half, and hopefully they get these issues resolved and people get the proper training and oversight so these issues do not occur for others. read more

I bought my Specialized Diverge from them back in Feb. of this year and it was an awesome experience. First they gave me a 10% military discount which not a lot of bike shops often do. Second, they had on hand many of the mid to high-end bikes many bike shops don't often carry. Then, they had great customer service. Lastly, I brought in my bike today on the off chance that I could drop it off to get it serviced and pick it up next week. I was leaving it for the week because we live an hour away. Even though I didn't have an appointment they immediately serviced my bike and got it back to me. Very helpful even though I didn't have an appointment. This bike shop is all around the best in the area and the best one I've ever dealt with. read more

Very disappointed in All Star I purchased a new Specialized Crux here and love my bike. But I came here for service, I have my wheels setup road tubeless and my rear tire was losing @25 psi overnight so I came here to get the problem fixed, well to remove the rear tire to inspect and to install new orange seal my bill came to $44.82!!!! $30 labor plus $11.95 for enough sealant to do one tire the price is OUTRAGEOUS!!!! This is a 15 minute job, is shop labor $120 an hour!? I was a customer of Flythe Cyclery and their price was $10 labor per wheel, great mechanics and a family atmosphere but the owner decided it was time to retire. I have spoken to other bike shops in Raleigh and prices range from $10 a wheel to $15 to $20 per wheel! So a big congratulations to All Star to being the most expensive so beware if you need service here, this is the last time I will be a customer of All Star for service or sales. You got me today but no more! read more

I get that it's a hard time for every business especially small businesses right now. Hope All Star and the bald guy learn from this review. I had a bad experience and it looks like it's not far off some others. I pulled up mask on and all and noticed people outside with bikes and a sales guy out there. Looked like there was a lot of info on the door but I didn't see anything about a cap or line or anything. The sales guy lifted a bike up and wheeled it towards the door no one jumped so I grabbed the door and opened it for him. I noticed some people in and literally stepped in with the employee who just said thanks for holding the door. I walked to the right to the mountain bikes to get a helmet and was there for maybe 2 minutes before this guy rolls up and tells me he needs me outta here... now with a mask on I'm thinking maybe I didn't hear him right so I said excuse me. He says to me " you gotta get outta here". So I said I'm just here to buy a helmet, what's up? He the says to me with some sorta attitude" didn't see all those people outside... what do you think they're here for"..... I said I thought maybe the bikes outside, there was 4 people & 4 bikes outside... at that point I walked out and left. As a business that's been "essential" since things started perhaps having an actual line, or a sign or maybe just some actual customer service would be a start. I would guess but I'm sure I'm not the first person to walk in so maybe question why it happens. Glad people need bikes and I'm sure they're hard to get but take your chances on Facebook and avoid this place or find another small business to try and support. read more

Very disappointed by the service and value of this organization. I purchased a bike for my son who is 8 years old and was surprised by the cost of the bike at this shop. Spent nearly 400 for the bike. They didn't review any safty rules or regulations, they didn't go any maintenance points that are required for first time bike riders. Today I went to Dicks Sporty goods and purchased a better bike for my 11 year old son and this group really had their act together. They fully explained everything to us and they preformed a full prep of the bike in front of us. They walked through the rules and regulations so that we're fully aware of all aware of them including safty items. The cost of the bike at Dicks was 250 with a 3 year service plan. Well worth it. Dicks was a far superior price and experience. The Dicks Sports location was in Holly Srings (really amazing team there). read more

I have been coming to this store since 2003 when I got my first brand new specialized mountain bike at 12 years old. This is it's 3rd location in carry after moving twice. I've been coming here ever since. Now here I am still with a newly acquired 2017 specialized stumpjumper. I love the staff, always have. The current staff is amazing especially the lead mechanic John. He has a great attitude, really patient, helpful and knowledgeable on basically everything. He takes the time to answer all my questions and concerns. Today however, I had a couple unprofessional interactions with the staff. First off when I came in, I was patiently waiting to get my bike looked at for a reoccurring brake lever issue (after having them swapped out for brand new levers). As I was waiting, I was approached by a woman I had never seen before. She proceeded to "politely" criticize and patronize me on how dirty my mountain bike was.... at first I thought she was just being friendly and joking with me saying "such a pretty Paint job to have it all muddy like that". I just laughed a bit but then she kept telling me how i should really really clean my bike. Probably told me 3 times. Every time getting more condescending. Again I just laughed it off and looked away hoping she would go away, and she did. But seriously?? It's a MOUNTAIN BIKE for crying out loud. I had literally just gotten off the trail with it. It just really rubbed me the wrong way. She just kept insisting that I really need to do a better job cleaning my bike. The other annoying thing that happened was after a new employee started helping me (he did a great job btw, didn't catch his name), I was explaining my mechanical issue and the owner of the store pulls him aside mid sentence! With no acknowledgment of the rudeness or anything. For what? To tell his employee to help the next guests in line and skip me for later. I will admit sometimes I tend to ask more questions.... I like to be thorough. But that was incredibly insulting. The owner then went back behind the store back to whatever was more important. Never said a word to me. He knows me by name, they all do. Instead of doing what he did, why couldn't he just help those folks himself! It was just one bike. Or better yet, handed them off to the employee and talk to me instead. But no. If this was my first time at the store I wouldn't come back, but this isn't the kind of treatment I'm used to. Well I guess it is typical for the owner to act this way. He only started being polite to me when I was looking to spend money on a new bike. Figures. Whether you're a new or returning customer looking to get a new tube for $20 or shopping for a $5000 bike, you should get the same treatment. So I don't feel entitled because I bought a $3000 bike. It would have upset me more if it was my first time in the store. Just makes me feel disappointed in the end. read more

Tried to return/exchange the bike I purchased here because it's too big for me. The staff blamed me for having the wrong size bike due to a bad salesperson they used to have. They offered me less than half trade-in value for what I bought it for, when it's in excellent condition and has only been ridden a couple times. Then they said they would knock off a couple hundred from that too because there was a "scratch" and they needed to perform a tune up. When I went home to look at the scratch, it was DIRT that I could easily wipe off!! On top of that, they were trying to have me trade it for a brand new bike that would require me to spend more than $1,000 more on. Unreal. Please do not come here with your business. read more

The mechanic didn't seem interested(probably because I didn't buy it there) told me it would be 2-3 weeks to get to it? I have purchased two bikes at the Ridge Rd., Raleigh store and bought a third at this store in Cary last month. The staff at both shops are knowledgeable and friendly. The techs, sales staff, and management go out of there way to make sure you're satisfied with all aspects of your experience. I travel 2 hours for service on my bikes and to buy any gear that I may need. Standouts are; Brian Jones (Raleigh), Michael and Adam (Cary). I highly recommend these shops. Aaaaaand, if you're unsure of what endurance oriented road bike you need, I recommend the Specialized Roubaix!!!! read more

I had a million questions. :) She took the time to listen to my needs and give me advice and help me find what would fit my needs and my budget. She didn't try to oversell me on anything I didn't need which I appreciated but helped point me in the right direction if I decided to add certain things later. I needed my brake pads replaced on my mountain bike. I showed up 30 minutes until closing and their service department is very busy - especially this time of year in the spring. Jon helped me out and quickly replaced my brake pads for me and I didn't have to leave my bike for a few days. Super and knowledgable folks work here and their service department is wonderful! I dropped into the shop to check availability on a Gravel bike as bikes have been delayed for Months , and as expected availability wasn't expected to possibly Spring , but no worries thyme to start a bike fund ! Well Martine recalled my interest in the Giant Revolt and surprised me with a call saying a Revolt was in transit due in the next couple of weeks which was a pleasant surprise to us all . Martine promised to hold one for me so I had to scramble to sell some bikes and as luck would have it things came together and I was gratefully able to jumpstart my bike fund months sooner then expected. I was called when it arrived and called when it was built ! I was loaned one of her personal saddles after I was measured for a saddle much to my surprise a completely different size then I'd be running on a previous fitting. They installed my pedals and adjusted my seat height. They've got some More Giant Revolts in Stock I highly recommend AllStar !! read more

I definitely enjoyed my experience at All-Star. The staff gave me lots of time and information and set me up to test-drive a couple of their bikes. It was great to get a feel for what I wanted to buy and I got a good test-drive in before I bought a bike. I bought a Giant Roam II and I love it so far. I expect the good times to keep on rolling; they throw in a year of free service after all. The support from a local bike shop is worth it; go check 'em out. read more

I purchased two bikes there this year had a great experience. Spending over 700.00 to 800.00 dollars or more. However, when I took bikes back for a 6 month check up the shop would not even replace a kickstand foot! A little piece of rubber on the bottom of kickstand that prevents the bike from falling over easy. I informed the staff member a woman that it fallen off a few days after purchase. I was informed by the staff person that I spoke with that part is not covered under the warranty and that shop would not replace it; I was not even offered an opportunity to purchase one as the staff member turned her back and went to back work. Very disappointed! I will be certainly looking at other shops for my next purchase. I would not recommend this bike shop based on poor customer service on products that they sell and service read more

The employees here are very knowledgeable and are honest when it comes to what kind of repairs you need and what ones can be held off to a later date saving you time and money. Unlike there competitors down the road who try and sell you stuff you would never need or want. Also, one time I took my bike in for a minor adjustment and I wasn't charged a dime that is what I call service. I will continue to use All Star Bike shop for all my bike repairs. read more
