Very surprised. Negatively. Two and a half weeks. Nothing's done. Context: higher range bike. Bike chain, brake pads, overall service (see if anything need librication). I was given an estimate of 2 1/2 weeks. I patiently awaited. The day before the due date I called. It was not ready. I was told it will be ready on the due date and the person is placing the work order on the desk. I come pick it up at the end of the due day. It is not ready. No one is aware it needs to be done. I am familiar with the industry, I understood the extended timeline and hoped its the safety net for the staff. I was willing to close my eyes for questionable small charges in the invoice. Hoping that the service and quality are going to be good and won't even remember any of it. With all my understanding of the business challenges, the economy and other things - I do not understand why some small businesses don't care about their customers. read more

Been working with these guys for several years now and purchased the BEST bicycle that fit me perfectly and was best suited to my use! This week I took a friend's bike that had been slightly damaged in an accident (our fault) and they fixed the wheel, adjusted the gears and got it back in record time. Today I stopped by the Apex location, I typically deal with Raleigh seeing as that I work there. Today I had a broken derailleur a simple fix since I had the parts. I went in knowing my chance of getting in was minimal. As soon as I arrived at the service desk a young man told me "I was in the right place" verbatim. After standing there for 20 min I walked over to the gentleman and asked if he could squeeze me in. He then preceded to tell me I wasn't at the check in desk after seeing me stand there for 20 min & also telling me I was in the correct place! Then after rudely telling me they couldn't do it today another kid named Chris suggested I leave a review... so here it is! Horrible service. I returned another bike in the trade program Bicycle Chain offers. I tried another store in Raleigh and they were out of stock. I had two bikes to trade and the smaller one for my granddaughter was easier to replace. The Glenwood store gave me terrible service and treated me like a second class citizen. I made the exchange because I wanted the bike for my granddaughter, however I will never go there again. I googled the Apex/Cary store the following day. I drove there and arrived one hour before they opened. I grabbed food and returned. When the doors opened there were folks walking in from everywhere. At first, I was alarmed, then I understood why. Outstanding service. The social distance marks were posted. Most customers did not have mask. I kept my distance and continued to search for a bike for my grandson. The store was out of stock however, the CSR quickly recommended several other bikes and provided online pictures. I made a selection and he said in two-three days he would have the bike. Today I called and the bike was there. He told me he would check it over and have it ready when I arrive. Amazing store! read more

I was having issues setting up my fox 34 rhythm fork. I also was hearing this loud metallic click when I was going over rough roots and rocks. Colby was able to figure out the issue immediately and said that my fork came "stuck down" from the factory, and it had 10+mm less travel then it should. He said the dynamics are off as well. Anyways, the shop rebuilt the air side of the fork, and boom! Fixed the issue! No more clicking, and the fork rides better than it did new! Also, they installed a new brake system, and they work flawlessly as well. I am very impressed with the service and professionalism the team exhibits. While I appreciated the quick service, I did not appreciate the hidden fees. They are knowledgable but make sure to ask for the fine print. When changing my tire tube they asked me if I wanted to upgrade the tire (which was very worn). I asked the price and was told $25; what I wasn't told was that the $25 tire had a $25 install fee on top of it. In this time of transparency a little honesty goes a long way. read more

The very rude man didn't allow us to enter inside the store, because my husband was without a mask. He can not breath in a mask , he has a broken nose and has medical weaver. Presently bikes are hard to find and keep in stock due to high demand. We've bought two in the last month and despite the issues with limited stock and probably endless calls about what's available the employees here are super relaxed, nice, patient and explain the bikes features. I've been to some other shops in the area before buying here and one was full of really crabby and exasperated employees. Not an issue here. Also we bought one bike from the Durham store after they found it was in stock elsewhere after visiting this location. Similar great experience. Also everyone but the techs in back are wearing masks and there is hand sanitizer as well as plexiglass at the checkouts. read more

The staff here (and at other locations) are incredibly helpful. I haven't had a bike in over 20 years and came to this location wanting to try out a particular bike I saw online. They had me try out several other bikes as well, all of which were actually less expensive than the one I initially had my eye on. Mike made adjustments to the bike I liked best to make sure it fit my geometry, and gave helpful tips when I asked, both on general use and additional gear I was looking to purchase. Mike and the rest of the staff genuinely want to help you find the best bike for you, and I cannot recommend them and this store enough. read more

I decided to buy my first bike in 15 years and came here after trying out a national chain sporting goods store. At the prior store, the staff ignored my request to test out a road bike to feel the difference from the hybrid. Here, though, the guy who greeted me was happy to explain what difference variations made. When he was showing me a bike out of my price range, I mentioned that I wouldn't consider that bike. His response was that trying it out would just help me understand the differences, and was not about being obligated to buy. The people here were helpful and friendly in their own right, and when compared to the major chains they had a larger selection of bikes in my price range AND their staff was phenomenal. Knowledgeable, supportive, friendly, and I walked out spending right around the middle of my targeted budget range. I just wrapped up a deal on a Specialized Roubaix from Bicycle Chain Apex. This was my 4th new bike purchase over the last 8 or so years (3rd Specialized), and this has by far been the best experience yet. I was able to get the bike for several hundred less than other shops in the area (this was an old stock 13 so not sure how they deal on the current model year). Getting the deal was absolutely painless and there was no hardsell or upsell at all. Just came in, road it and bought it. Speaking of riding, another great benefit about this location is there is a pretty decent test ride route right across the street. I dealt with John, the manager of this location, and he was so easy to work with. He took the time to make sure everything was right and spent a good deal of time helping get the proper fit on my new bike. I could tell the difference in the fit and feel of the bike immediately. I also had some swap over services done the next day and they had everything done and ready very quickly and correctly, so I will have no problems using them for service in the future, especially since you get free basic $30 tune ups at any location, and $30 off any higher maintenance package when you purchase a bike there. As an added bonus, their mechanics are very friendly and not a bunch of grouches like other places I have been to. I would highly recommend The Bicycle Chain and will definitely be back there myself. I have also been to the Glenwood location and the staff there is very helpful. I went to CH and was not helped, but they did seem very busy that day. read more

This is an easy review. This place rocks! The products are always on the mark and i have never been disappointed. As for the service, it just doesn't get any better. These guys are consultative, helpful and clearly enjoy what they do. They are very innovative when solving for your needs and i have had 2 service situations that were outstanding. First I went to get the battery on my Garmin replaced which they make a big deal out of because of the little rubber gasket. The place I used to go to in FL charged me $20 for this intricate procedure and kept my watch for 2 days. These guys changed it in front of me and charged me $2 whatever it was for the battery. Second, the rubber strap on my cadence sensor broke. They didn't sell only this part as you have to buy the magnetic strap and the sensor in a package which I did not need. The service guy asks me a few questions about my bike, pedals, etc and has a light bulb go off over his head. He runs in the back, grabs a little round magnet and tells me to place it on the bolt of my pedal. Worked like a charm and I didn't have to to by a sensor that I did not need. These guys have my business, no question. read more

Worst customer service in area - lots of other local options... I will never use them again. In short, I dropped off my bike to get serviced... I was told it would be ready on a certain date (it wasn't) and I was never called about a delay. When I called regarding the status of my bike I was told it would be ready soon and that I would be called when I could pick it up (I never got a call). I kept calling for the next 3 days and heard the same story over and over (they never called me, I had to reach out to them each time). I finally gave up and picked up my bike (without service being completed). The straw that broke my back was that the store told me that they were backed up because they were having a sale (ie. they were already going to get my money because they had my bike so they could ignore me and just sell product to potential customers). Again, worst service I've ever had... Anywhere. read more

Place has potential. Guess it depends on when you visit. 1:45 on a Tuesday is not the time to visit apparently. Walk in, guy eating Chinese food and on his phone texting. Ask if I can have help with shoes and clips, says he knows nothing about bike shoes or clips that he rides BMX bikes only and that I'll have to wait 10 minutes for someone else to come help. 30 minutes pass and the 'other perison' never shows up. In my opinion if you're the only one working in a BIKE store you should know about the products people will come in to purchase. Made it seem like my business wasn't worth it, an inconvenience coming in to purchase $100 shoes I guess. Finally grabbed what I (think) will work... BMX guy put the cleats on for me and basically wish d me good luck. Definitely not how I'd conduct business. If you know what you need then I'd say shop here but if you need any assistance at all then I'd go elsewhere. read more

Dan the mechanic there is spectacular, knowledgeable, and accessible. He took my bike on the fly minutes before a big ride, discovered the rear derailleur was shot but did not have the exact one I needed, grabbed a spare and put it on...what?! Yep, then he ordered a new one and then put the new one on when it came in this time with an appointment convenient to me, & I never skipped a beat, & I never missed a ride! Thank you Dan. You know sometimes the mechanic at a bike shop is your main contact, because although they have wonderful new bikes there, I can't afford to buy a new bike every time I visit the store. I ride with Carolina Brewing Company and Lifetime Fitness, and have couple of high end Cannondales. One is custom painted by Jack Kane. It is not every day I get a new mechanic, but I found him, and you should too. Also, while you are there you should check out the awesome bikes because man these new ones are BEAUTIFUL! Not only does he have a vast knowledge in bikes, but was friendly, gave me the best price possible, and spent as much time with me as I needed to assist me in understanding how the bike works, and how to navigate the trails in my area, including which ones are better for beginners, intermediates, and advanced riders. This is my LBS (local bike shop). The mechanics & owner are extremely helpful and friendly. Always there to help answer product questions whether about bikes, or accessories or food/hydration. There are bike rides hosted from the shop (not by the shop guys) multiple days a week.... most Wednesdays & Saturdays you'll find folks parked out front (across the parking lot) getting in some quality miles. See this shop is on the western side of NC55 with relatively easy access to Jordan lake and surrounding area where you can get in a quick 20, 30 or more miles. Bikes wise, they are a BIG specialized shop, also carrying some Cannondale products. Won't find any Trek bikes sold there, although they work on EVERYTHING... if it's got pedals, they can work on it....Stop by and tell John, Steve & crew hello... you'll be glad you did. read more

I went into your Apex store looking for two items. I was talked down to and treated VERY rudely. You will never have to worry about my husband or myself EVER coming in your store again ! The sad part is that I think it was a manager that treated me this way and there was a trainee (who was nice enough) that heard his managers rude tone and manner. True, today I was only going to spend $50 or so, but I am considering a 29er and I will NOT be looking in your store. You need to think how you say things to people.
