I would not recommend this company if you have a home warranty. The techs came out and told me the issue. When the invoice was written, an additional note was put in there. It was not discussed with me when they were leaving. I never saw the invoice until they were gone. Because they added that note, my warranty company refused my claim. When the techs were leaving, they were already giving me a quote to have a part replaced. I thought that was a little strange. I called the office and the person was very defensive. I will never use them again. I now have to pay for something that should have been covered under my home warranty. read more

If you look across reviews it seems this company has a reputation for being difficult when you have a home warranty. Which we do. They came out, replaced evaporator coils, we continued to have issues. They essentially gave up on the issue and told our home warranty they no longer wanted to service us after telling us they put in the request for a new system with our home warranty. Dishonest and almost caused health issues at my house. In July we started to have issues with out outside unit. Our indoor temperature was staying about 4 degrees less than the outdoor temperature. So, some days it was 90+ in our house. Due to health issues this a critical issue. We contacted our homeowner warranty company and the sent "All Star Appliance Service". They sent someone nice and knowledgeable that found a leak and due to the age of our unit we would need it replaced. We then were contacted by our homeowner warranty a few days later that we were 100% liable for the cost of upgrading our outside unit since the line was "improperly put in". "All Star Appliance Service" reported to our homeowner warranty that the line was put in by us or someone else and it was done improperly. This is false, the line was put in when the unit was put in more than a decade ago. Its obvious if you look at the construction and s/n, dates, etc. Its simply not up to code, 10+ years old, for which is covered by the warranty company. My spouse called to try to resolve the issue but they argued with her then hung up on her. I then called them to figure out the situation which resulted in them hanging up on me. This issue is this. They do not perform the service of replacing the line from the outdoor unit to the indoor unit. If they accurately reported it as "not up to code" they would have to do the work. But they said "improperly put in" so they didn't have to do the work but still got work from the homeowner warranty company. We reported them and the issue to our homeowner warranty company. They sent another HVAC company which promptly found a solution. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. SCAM ARTISTS CHARGING $600 FOR A $2 REPAIR. My home warranty insurer sent All-Star Appliance Services to my house to service my furnace, which was performing poorly. The tech accepted our $100 deductible, looked at the furnace, and said that we needed coil cleaning, which wasn't covered by our home warranty insurance. The owner of the company estimated that it would require: * Another round of diagnostics using a scope ($100) * Coil cleaning ($250) * Cutting a hole in the side of our furnace to install a panel for future service ($150) Altogether, $500 - on top of the $100 we'd already paid. I called a tech from another company, who came out and fixed the problem in five minutes for $2.00 in parts. We'd been using the wrong furnace filter. The coils were fine, and the $2.00 repair cost completely fixed our problem. I asked the second tech why All-Star hadn't caught that and wanted to charge us $600. "No idea. The furnace filter is ALWAYS the first thing you check because lots of customers make that mistake." I don't know whether All-Star Services is grossly incompetent or committing outright fraud... but in my case, it certainly looks like those are the two options. read more

So glad our warranty company sent All-Star HVAC our way! We've had issues with our heating system/thermostat in that the heat would only come on at night and then either not respond or blow cold air during the day- really tough for us during the winter months. The techs came out on time and were able to identify the problem....now we thankfully have heat again! They also did a maintenance cleaning for the HVAC system on top of it. The techs who came were super friendly and professional, and they explained the issue thoroughly (they were very knowledgeable) and followed up with an email that included pictures right after service. They wore masks and booties to be COVID safe. We will hands down recommend them in the future to anyone with HVAC issues! read more

If I could give give zero stars I would. Our AC went out two weeks ago. We contacted our home warrenty company and All Star was assigned the job. They told us to make sure the unit was off for a day so any ice could melt. We were late coming home that day so we turned the unit off 17 hours prior to the appointment. Alex showed up the next day (Friday) and did his best to troubleshoot the problem except there was ice still encasing the unit. He shut off the unit at the breaker (funny because I turned it off at the thermostat), and asked me to send a photo once the ice had cleared. I sent the photo as requested and then called on Monday. They said they received the photo and they would start the claim process. On Wednesday checked and no claim. Someone would call me. On Thursday, spoke to the owner, John, who was confused why this repair job was sitting idle, but said the next day he would personally come out and figure out the problem. Said he would call later that day with a time. John never called back. Called the next morning only to be told John was not coming out and they had cancelled our job sending it back to the warrenty company. They told the warrenty company were were difficult because there was ice on the unit and we did not turn it off as instructed. We lost a week in hot weather. Claim was reassigned. Took the new technician an hour to determine that a bad capacitor was preventing the switch from turning off the unit and that also there was a leak in the coil. We had turned off the unit as we were told to do. The capacitor prevented the unit from stopping. All Star did not take the time to diagnose the problem and then did not come back out when they promised to do so. We have not had AC for a over a week and we have a 76 year old woman living with us and it is 98 degrees in the house. John still will not return my calls to explain why they would not come back out as promised so I have no choice but to try and warn others about their horrible business. read more

Great company, quality service, and very honest! We have been using John and All-Star for over a decade. He earned my loyalty when we were pricing new HVAC systems and a big box store said I needed a new unit at a huge price. When John came out, he could have sold me a whole new system, as that is what I thought I needed. Instead he offered a fix for only a couple hundred dollars, compared to the $12K quote from the big name store. At the time, I was single and felt comfortable with John or any of his employees in my home. That trust and comfort goes a long way when service providers come into your space. Since my first repair, 10 years ago, we have had John and All-Star replace our HVAC system (it was 26 years old) and water heater, and provide bi-annual yearly system checks. I will start by saying that I was without working air conditioning from late May until October 5, 2018. The home warranty company my landlord uses nickled and dimed the process throughout, but All Star was honest, compassionate, and worked hard to get things done correctly from their initial inspection in June 2018. All Star recommended replacement of the whole unit on Day 1, and explained to me (and the home warranty company) exactly why. However they were directed to replaced components one at a time, and often the warranty company ordered the wrong part. All Star (specifically Justin), kept me fully appraised on the progress every step of the way. And the service technicians, especially DJ, Diego, and Karrick, were thoroughly professional, empathetic, and kept me up to date throughout the whole 4+ month ordeal. We recently moved into a new home and one of the items noted during our inspection was the age of our heat pump. Turns out it is original to the home and 25 years old. It still worked but was horribly inefficient. Rather than waiting until the unit died, probably at the most inconvenient time, we decided to replace it. We had another competitor assess our HVAC systems and give us a quote, but thought their recommendation was overkill and too expensive for what we were looking for. After looking through some of the user manuals left by the previous owners, we learned that All Star replaced both other units in our home, so we called to get a quote from them. John, the owner, sent out a crew within a couple of hours after we called to look at the unit and discuss our options. After Alex and Jose came out, we got a call from John. He was patient and professional, taking the time to answer all of our questions. His estimate was more in line with what we were expecting, and we agreed to have them perform the work. Alex and Jose showed up with the unit a few days later and completed the job in about 6 hours. The team was efficient and courteous. They wore masks and booties when they were in our home. They were also considerate enough to lay down tarps on the floor to protect our hardwood floors and carpet. Well, first review. Not going to be a pleased one, unfortunately, and really that's the tech's fault. I am experiencing some problems with my HVAC unit, the unit is running constantly and my electric bill is extremely high because of it.. But, I have a home warrantee that's paid up for two years and I had the idea that I would exercise a claim with the service rather than having my own people look at it. I figure, I've paid for it, better let them come and see it. My home warrantee people sent All star appliances out to check it out. The tech came out, threw a temp sensor on the register and found the temperature to be correct and concluded that the unit was too small for the house and that there is no problem and left (after collecting 75 dollar deductible). Didn't take discover card and needed a check. You can imagine the frustration. So, I had to go back to the warrantee company and explain the logic of my situation: If you have a car, say, that gets 25 miles to the gallon and then suddenly the car only gets 15 miles to the gallon, you'd take it to the shop. You would not accept the explanation from the mechanic that it was fine to drive over there so there must be nothing wrong. Fine, they said. They sent a second company. They found 4 major issues and are reporting back to the company for approval for the repairs of the previously ascertained functional no problem system. 4 problems, including low refrigerant, leaking refrigerant line, burn out wires in the heating pack, and leaking condensate coil. I have nothing but good things to say about John and his staff at Allstar. My husband and I were in the market for a full replacement system (Heat Pump and Air Handler) to our 26yr old system. We had a few more well know companies come out and give us estimates for replacement and were completely shocked by the estimates. While we were at our daughters gymnastics class I noticed Allstar next to the class and went in to schedule an estimate. The staff was top notch from the beginning. They were able to fit us in and worked around our hectic schedule. John the owner arrived at our home right on time and spent a long time answering questions and explaining what he suggested and would work best for our home. I showed John the estimates I had received and he was as shocked as I was. He guaranteed he could beat the estimates and suggested two different sized units. I received the estimates later in the day and they beat the original estimates by $6,000. After some discussion with my wife we decided to go with Allstar. They also did their best to work around my schedule to install the unit. I must have emailed John 10 different times with questions about the units prior to install.he was very patient and answered all my questions. The installation staff was also top notch. They did the install on a rainy day and not a speck of dirt or mud came in the house. You wouldn't know anyone was there aside from the new system in the basement. They took extra time to go over the system and explain how the install was done and how it worked. After the install John called the next day to find out how everything was working. It's been about 10 days since install and I called John with questions about the thermostat. John came back to my house to make sure there were no issues. John offers multiple financing options as well. I would recommend John and his staff to anyone. read more

All Star provided me with a wealth of information on how to work with my home warranty company in order to have my ac unit fixed. If it wasn't for the information from All Star, my ac would have been out most of the summer due to the home warranty company dragging their feet. Instead, 3 1/2 weeks later I had my ac fixed during the height of the summer. Fast forward almost a year later and no home warranty contract thankfully. My downstairs ac unit broke. I contacted All Star on Tuesday, they were out on Wednesday and everything was fixed on Thursday before the long hot Memorial weekend. I couldn't be more pleased with the service that they provided. John and his team provide great personal service. Thursday night before Memorial Day weekend my A/C stopped working and it looked like we were in for a long hot weekend. John personally came by on Friday, discovered the problem and began searching for the part, a fan motor that was still under warranty. Closest part was in Georgia and could not be delivered until Tuesday. To my surprise, one of his technicians knocked on the door on Saturday morning with a fan motor to install. He had removed it from a similar unit in his shop. A temporary fix that worked out great. This is the kind of personal attention you can't get from the large companies. I do not know where to begin. This is the second terrible experience with this company. I purchased a Maintenance package back in May 2021. I was unimpressed by their 10 minute visit to begin with where they asked me to supply the filter which they changed. Maybe that's normal. I paid for the package upfront and expected a call to schedule my Fall/ Winter. I realized that has never happened around March/April. I phoned up Allstar. The gentleman on the phone told me that the season has passed and we would just schedule for the spring season. I understood; he said he would reach out later on. Several weeks later, a gentleman called to tell me that because I "missed" my service appointment, they would be scheduling me for a "complimentary maintenance service". The entire semantics of this statement is problematic. I did not miss the service appointment; I was never contacted to schedule one. Secondly, the service cannot be complimentary if I have already paid for it. I objected to the statement and said exactly that one the phone call and an old man in the background, cut me off and began to talk over me, restating the fact that they were doing me a favor. I had much more to say but I decided to hold my tongue. The appointment was scheduled for yesterday, May 11 and I rushed home to be there for the window- 3PM-7PM. Additionally, I alerted the individuals in the house. I carried my cellphone around with me from 3:14pm until 7:30pm. No one ever knocked, nor rang my doorbell, nor called to alert me on their arrival. If they did knock, the THREE persons in the living area did not hear the service men at the door. They left a magnet on my door mat, so I know they arrived, but what happened? I called and spoke to Dale attempting to figure out where the breakdown in communication occurred and the man once again raised his voice and begin yelling at me and stated because it cost him to send the guys out, that I would be charged for the second attempt. I told him through his accusatory yelling, I wanted a refund of half the maintenance package and to forget that this ever happened. I hung up the phone as I told Dale I would not be having this conversation. He was mid-yell. Later, I spoke to the owner, John, who accused me of hearing the door and refusing to answer it. He also spoke to me in a condescending tone, explaining that the package that I bought was not TWO Spring maintenance calls, but rather a Fall and a Spring. I then reminded him that his company never reached out to schedule the Fall maintenance. He proceeded to inform me that they emailed all follow ups and that "no one wanted to talk to a HVAC guy". Not only are there ZERO emails in my box reaching out to schedule my maintenance(negligence which they will not take responsibility for), "No one wants to talk to an HVAC technician" is a weak excuse to not offer proper customer service. I have never been spoken to so disrespectfully in my whole life, let alone from someone from the service industry. John told me I was difficult to work with, and told me he would "think" about returning my money. I shall be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Friday morning I called my home warranty company and they referred me to All Star Appliance Service. Friday evening I noticed a missed call from All Star Appliance Service. I returned the call and left a message. Yelp showed they are closed on weekends so I figured they'd call me back Monday. To my surprise, on Saturday morning, I received a call to schedule me for Monday! Monday my service guy came out and fixed my air conditioning and had cold air blowing in no time at all. Bad customer service as a company. I was referred to All Star through my home warranty. As a customer, you would expect that when you schedule a service, you would be given a time frame like any other service (internet, furniture delivery, etc.), but that is not the case. What they expect you to do is call the morning of and ask when THEIR schedule permits them to send a technician, therefore making you waste at least a whole day. This is not how you do good business. I went ahead and scheduled the service. When they called me to confirm, I was not able to pick up because I was in a bad service area, and they did not leave a voicemail either so I did not know who the number was. Regardless of not having my confirmation, they went ahead and sent a technician to my door and charged me $75 for the travel. That is quite ridiculous as you don't make an appointment without confirmation and it seems like they just wanted to charge the fee. I just called my home warranty again today and they assigned me to YAZD Mechanical Inc. Had a 3 minute phone call where they gave me an APPOINTMENT WINDOW the next day. Quick, painless, and much easier to schedule around. It's ridiculous that All Start cannot and will not give an appointment window, and the representative that I spoke to had the nerve to say "this is how the HVAC industry works." Now we all know that was a bunch of baloney. Would not recommend a company that does not value their customer. read more

When our AC broke AllStar Heating and Cooling was assigned to us by our Home Warranty company. They came and did their inspection and decided we were low on freon, so they filled it up and it worked. After 2 months we ran out again, so they came back and determined there was a leak. They submitted the paperwork to the Warranty company who denied it due to their being a mismatched system, which it is not. A mistake on their paperwork, which happens to everyone, an inconvenience, but not a big deal. I first needed to determine how they determined the tonnage of the unit, so I could raise the mistake with the warranty company. After contacting them 4 times without an answer, I was finally told that a member of management would contact me. After waiting several days, I called back and was told "quite frankly, they weren't going to call you". What kind of reputable company would blow of customers like that? The secretary seemed to be the only one willing to talk on the phone. They kept saying "they standby what the warranty company verified", but the warranty company was only going off the incorrect document that AllStar HVAC provided them. Finally the secretary contacted the technician (still no idea what management at this company does, as the secretary seemed to be doing everything) who said usually the tonnage can be found in the model number (which is what I stated in the first 3 phone calls) but they would not say that's how he determined it on my specific unit. For clarification, my specific unit is extremely old and I independently verified that the tonnage cannot be found in the model number. Why would a company fight so hard to not competently answer what should be a simple answer for them, when doing so might enable me to fix the error with the Warranty company and allow them to replace an entire HVAC unit?? The 2nd star is for the technician and secretary who were very nice. The missing 3 stars are for the lack of any customer service by management, lack of common sense, and making me waste my time on 5 separate phone calls. read more

I just read the review below and this does not sound like the company that came to my house last week (3/19/14). My heater went out sometime during the night and I called this company at 8am the next morning. They had a tech at my house within two hours. The office lady was very friendly and put me at ease as soon as I spoke with her. The technician Greg was friendly, courteous, and even looked at my ice maker while he was here for the furnace. I put in a claim with my home warranty company and the first contractor assigned called to say they could not make it until Friday...temps hit the low 80's in the family room and my office. So I called and asked if they could assign another company and they said ok. All Star called the next day, super nice lady, told me they could not come out until Thursday. Given the temps in NOVA recent I guess I should have figured all HVAC repair companies would be pretty much booked tight. Because the young lady on the phone was so friendly and courteous, rather than continuing my pursuit for immediate service I took the Thursday appointment. I needed to sweat off a few pounds anyway. Well around noon I get a call from All Star asking if it was possible for them to come out today due...HELL YEAH. That is not what I said, but that's what I thought. The tech, John, showed up and got me up and running again. My wife was home during the repair and she said John was awesome. He not only repaired the unit, he also answered her questions, advised her on potential issues he saw, and offered possible solutions...we are definitely signing up for their maintenance plan for both of our unit. Thanks John and the staff of All Star. You came through like an all-star MVP. You have my business from this point on and I will highly recommend you to friends, family, and co-workers. We had a terrible experience with this company. They do a lot of business through home warranty claims, and when they came to our house to evaluate a claim we had opened for our AC unit, they determined the evaporator coil had gone bad and needed to be replaced. We waited 8 weeks for them to get the part ordered, delivered and installed. (The work was never completed.) They blamed the warranty company for all the delays, but we found out they shared in the blame for the delays by refusing to pick up the part. After 2 months, we still have no air conditioning (early May to early July). Worst customer service experience we've ever had with an AC company. We won't be doing business with this company in the future. read more

My home warranty company HMS sent out All Star Appliance to replace my entire inside and outside heating and air conditioning units. I have 3 receipts from the service this company two of which stated that the orig heater package was a 15 KW and this company installed a 10 instead, which will not appropriately heat a 3584 SF house. HMS said that ASA ordered the wrong part and knowingly installed the wrong part. I was inconvenienced for 2 weeks because of this incompetence. I asking for a refund to remedy a bad experience and knowingly installing the wrong part. Well they got found out and refuse to give a refund. read more

He was able to diagnose and fix the problem with my AC within 15 mins. I went with All Star due to my wife working with the owner's wife so I wanted to give them a try. I am still in shock at how great they were! They dispatched Alex to my home even though it was out of their service area by a pretty decent amount. Alex was very polite and courteous. I recently got a quote from Appleton Campbell to fix why I was getting no air to my upstairs bathroom (to the tune of 1300 bucks) and I about fell over. I wanted a second opinion and Alex was able to find the issue quickly and fix the issue right then and there for less than a quarter of what Appleton wanted to charge. I now have more air flowing into my bedroom and bathroom and couldnt be happier knowing that its working and I paid a fraction of what another company wanted. I found my HVAC company! read more

I have a home warranty policy and my AC went down as I'm getting ready to leave town for a while. All Star was the contractor assigned to help me. I had previously been assigned to another contractor I could never get in touch with, let alone get on their schedule so my claim and no AC had been going on for more than a week. I got a prompt call from All Star, explained my situation and the owner, John, came out the next morning and fixed both of my systems. Not only has this company been one of the nicest contractors I've ever worked with but the owner is very knowledgeable, down to earth, and someone that I will do business with in the future. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE GUYS. They installed the wrong size compressor into my AC and are refusing to come back out to fix it or provide insurance info so I can make a claim against it. They are saying the part is out of warranty. It is not the part that is the concern but rather the lack of knowledge of AC repair and professional courtesy of standing behind their work. read more
