He will assess the car before testing it to ensure your visit is productive/not a waste of time. The prices are the lowest I've seen and the location is safe and convenient (with parking and a gas station). There's a waiting area, but the tech gets the job done quickly, so there's not a lot of waiting (unless there's customers in front of you, but even then...). This place is on the Mobil gas station facility. I was greeted with a friendly and warm smile upon my arrival. I asked the guy how much and he said $45. I asked him if it was cheaper if I got the Yelp coupon. He said it would be $48 and that he gave me the Google coupon rate. That's an honest to goodness kind of guy. No wonder he has so many reviews with high ratings. After he took my documents and driver's license, he said that he has a waiting area. I was really surprised that one even existed and it was very nice. I was writing this review while he worked on my car. He came through the waiting area to give me documents to sign. I asked his name and he said Harry. I told him what I was doing and he thanked me several times. Then he had me go to his work station to sign more documents and to ring the sale. Harry said that it would take 45 minutes for DMV to receive the test results. From start to finish, it only took 15 minutes. I only went to this place because my go to guy was closed during business hours. Luckily, I saw this place on Yelp with great reviews and it was close by. This is the closest smog check place to where I live. To be honest, I didn't shop around I just wanted to get it done (registration was due yesterday, oops ) I called to see if I could get it done today and how long it would take and Harry said I could come and he would have me in and out in 10 minutes. When I got there I did have to wait for a car before me but they were out pretty quickly and once my car was in it was definitely done in less than 10 minutes. I chatted with one of the other customers while I waited and she seemed very happy with this place and said that it's one of the cheapest places around; I guess I got lucky that this was the closest one! Even though I've only interacted with Harry those 3 times, he has left a very positive impression on me. My experience with him is consistently friendly, attentive, and kind (on the phone and in person). He's a perfect blend of personable & professional. I'm greeted right away, even if my car is not serviced immediately. If there is any wait, it's usually only 1-2 cars ahead of you (5-10 min max per car). He continually updates you on your service status from when you first arrive to when you leave. Even though his smog checks are super quick, my experience has never felt "rushed". He can get you in and out quickly without cutting the quality of your customer experience short. He's sincerely open and approachable in general, even if you have other random auto-related questions. I paid $40 out the door for my smog check & certificate today (with his $30 complimentary discount applied). I am always pleased with my experience here with Harry. I hate to have to change my review but my recent experience here was far from 5 star. I swung by a few weeks ago for a smog check and found they'd raised their prices significantly (my 2009 Honda would now cost $65 to smog). Oh well, inflation I thought, I'll just do it since I'm here. Unfortunately, my car couldn't pass (I'd recently had my battery replaced and one of my monitors wasn't "ready" so I'd have to drive the car around to get it ready). They quoted me $25 to retest which I didn't love (I see a lot of smog places offer a free retest if you don't pass) but I figured I'd just come back when the monitor was ready rather than going to a totally new place and paying full price. So today (Sunday) I returned to retest to find the place closed (their hours on Google say they open at 9am on Sunday, on Yelp it's 10:30 am...I came around 11am). I called their phone number...no answer, mailbox was full. I asked the friendly clerk at the adjoining gas station and they didn't know when or if they'd be open today. Searching reviews I saw this was a common complain -- the hours online aren't accurate. No sign on the business either with the accurate hours. In summary, higher prices, no free retest offered, closed during hours posted online, no accurate hours posted, and a phone number that's no help. +1 star to the employee who did my first test and gave me good advice on getting the monitor ready though, that was nice. Bottom line, I won't be back and can no longer recommend. read more
