I think Shelby is the best in the business! She patiently helped me remodel my bathroom and kitchen at my 1950s ranch over the last year and a half. We just had new carpet installed all through our house (A LOT of carpet). Price was very competitive, and the experience picking the carpet was made so easy, visiting the showroom and being provided swatches of every color we looked at to bring home and make our choice. Day of install went without issue, installers even put at least 50 additional screws in subfloor to rid the house of the squeaky floor we inherited. We absolutely love the new carpet. Will definitely call again to refinish our hardwoods when we have the time. Would 100% recommend using All Surfaces. read more

Had a very good first meeting (by appointment) with Shelby, she showed us several good candidates for kitchen tile. We made an appointment for early next week to have their estimator come out to measure, which will result in a written estimate. Next step after that would be installation by one of their subcontractors. Easy peasy so far, I'll update as this progresses. Update: the estimator, Lance, was very professional and well informed. A+. We have their installer coming out next week. Really happy with the process and the people! Update #2: tile work is done, and it is absolutely perfect! Agreed, agreed, agreed. I went from thinking that buying new tile would be a fun project (thanks, Pinterest), to quickly realizing that it's a total pain in the arse that involves calling multiple suppliers, navigating contractor prices vs. public prices, visiting appointment-only showrooms, and just generally jumping through hoop after hoop... until I called A-1. Michele answered the phone and within 3 minutes had a better price on a better product than my contractor and all his designers were able to find. It's a 3-person operation, so the personal attention is high. And because they buy direct, they leave out the middleman and pass on the savings to their clients. I saved about 35% from my next lowest quote. It was generally just an easy, organized, upfront experience. I only wish I also used their installers! There's always next time... read more

The best! We had recently moved to Portland and purchased a townhouse in horrible condition that needed new carpet & flooring (among many other things). A-1 is in NW and is small shop focused on customer care. I personally like to shop in smaller stores, not giant warehouses where too many choices can bog you down. Michelle was very helpful in narrowing even further and creating a cohesive look while understanding our needs. Fast forward to installation time- their installer, Mark was very professional & knowledgeable. We had a lot of snafus with the contractor (who was not licensed and bonded--lesson learned) and Curt at A-1 was there to help with recommendations. We ended up selecting another contractor merely related to timing, but otherwise we would've used A-1 no problem. I requested a quote through Yelp! and received a response with 24 hours. After getting a sense of what our project needs were, they had someone out at our home to bid the project within a few days! In this era of more work than contractors this was unexpected. I appreciated their willingness to address our needs even though we were not yet a confirmed client. They were friendly and incredibly easy to communicate with over phone and email. I bought my first house recently and the carpet was a mess. I've never had to buy new carpet before so I didn't really know where to start. So I just figured I'd get as many bids as I could so I'd make sure I wasn't getting ripped off. A friend of mine had used A-1 to buy some tile and hardwood and got a good deal so I called them. Of the four bids I got the one from A-1 was by far the best deal, and I just felt comfortable with the owner because you could tell he knew what he was doing and had been around a long time. The installation went smooth, the carpet looks great and the final bill wasn't a dime more than what they told me when I got the bid. When I'm ready to redo my bathroom I'll definitely give A-1 a call first. read more

My boyfriend and I were in the middle of a bathroom remodel, for which we planned to do a majority of the work ourselves. We successfully tiled the bathroom floor on our own, but decided that the subway tile in our shower and soap niches would be far too intricate to do ourselves. Unfortunately, by the time we decided to call a professional tile installer, we only had 4 days before our tub was to be refinish (a process that we were told should be completed after the shower walls were tiled). I called 4 tile installers that were unable to book an appointment any sooner than 40 days out, and when I spoke with Curt from A-1 he said that he could get someone in within the next 2 days. The gentleman who did the installation was by far the most professional sub contractor that has ever been in my home. His communication was above and beyond, and he happily worked late and arrived early in order to get the job done on time. In the future, we will be going straight to A-1 for our tiling jobs! read more

They get three stars because the downstairs looks fine but our upstairs is horrible. Giant seam peaking in the middle of my bedroom, first thing you notice and 4 seams peaking throughout the upstairs hallway and in my sons bedroom. It is almost like they put the scrap pieces in the halls and in the bedroom, miss measured or just poor labor. Had them out to complain right away but pretty much was told, shit happens. If this seam was placed closer to the wall where the bed is, you wouldn't see it but every day I go into my room thinking "would this company accept THIS in their home, probably not". When picking out the carpet, the selection I was getting was not what I was looking for. When I went somewhere else and gave the samples I liked it was like I offended them and no longer did Michelle want to work with me. I should have gone with my gut and gone with Home Depot at that point. They are nice people but they don't really stand behind their work if there is a problem. It is upsetting.
