Pattersons towed my car after it was found abandoned. It was stolen on July 3rd but I was not…read morenotified that it had been found on July 6th until 4 days later when an Allstate agent called me at work around 3:00 p.m. The agent gave me the name & phone # of Pattersons Towing & when I called, I was told it work cost over $300. to get my car because of the storage & tow. I told him that I did not even know the car had been found until minutes before & said I wanted to come after work, around 5:30, to see my car. The guy said they close at five so I asked them if my car waa drive-able or damaged. He said he did not know so I asked if someone could go & look at it. Again he said no because he was the only one there. I asked him why I wasn't notified by anyone & he said all they do is tow cars when state police call them for a tow job. (I am waiting for a call back from an Illinois State police commander.) I asked, "Even when you know it's stolen?" so I went the following day & saw it would have to 8be towed. Fast forward 3 days: Pattersons called me at work to say tow truck had come to pick up my car & take it to my repair shop. When I asked how much the bill was, I was told over $900.!! When I asked for a breakdown of the charges & a copy of the bill to be texted to me, he told me to get the info from Allstate since they were the ones paying for it. I am sorry Allstate paid such an outrageous charge but glad I had full coverage but what about the people who only have collision or liability? How would that have hurt them? I had a pleasant interaction with the tow truck driver. However, I was a bit alarmed when the next day my mechanic called and asked me where the car was. He said he had left the shop for the day and didn't see it there which made me panic a bit. I called the towing company and the person who answered said the driver would call me back. He never did. My sister, who lives closer to the shop, drove over that night and discovered the car way down at the other end of the lot. My mechanic had to push it down to where their shop is the next day. Fast forward to submitting the receipt for reimbursement. My insurance company said they don't often see prices this high. I am right around the corner from where the towing company is located (0.3 miles). I was parked right next to my house on a side street where there were no cars parked in front of me. It is not a dense area. It was not a difficult situation. The tow was 9.1 miles. It was $295. I did not realize at the time, but this is high. For reference, my sister is getting her car towed 30 miles today (similar area of the city, also 4wd similar type of car, but over 3 times as far) and the cost is $360. And this other company has to travel further to get to her. I would recommend calling around because you can certainly do better on pricing (I feel I was taken advantage of) and they failed to follow up on a panic-inducing issue. I was left to locate the car on my own. In the future, they should consider having the driver confirm with a photo (or two) where the car was left.
