Living in the Hudson Valley you don't expect to find a great falafel place,but i did! This place is owned by an Israeli man whom is very attentive and welcoming. My husband and i come here whenever we crave falafel,hummus or gyros. I love that they give you a generous amount of pita when you order a platter. We recently came here with our friend fellow yelper Tina Chan and she had a chicken gyro,i had a falafel platter as did my husband. Our falafel platter came with hummus but her gyro doesn't include it. It was a perfect meal after a day of wineries. I recommend this place to anyone visiting the lower Hudson Valley. We drove over one hour to get to the restaurant and it was worth every minute of it!!! I LOVE falafel and Allan did not disappoint us. The room is small, but feels like a comfortable home. Everyone at our table ordered something different and every person (including a very picky guy) loved their choice. Allan's Falafel is one of my favorite local spots! I've eaten here for lunch, dinner and gotten takeout, and the experience is always positive. The staff is exceptionally friendly, right from walking in the door. On my most recent visit, one of the friendly ladies at the counter even offered me a glass of water while I was waiting for my takeout order. It's small touches like that that make me come here again and again. Couple highlights from the food: - Their salad dressing is SO GOOD. Some kind of Dijon vinaigrette that is unreal, super tasty - kufta - my personal favorite - hummus is fresh and not overly garlicky like some places - shawarma is perfectly browned on the edges, tender on the inside - falafel is perfectly crispy and just the right amount of parsley for my taste, very delicious - rice is flavorful and not dry - chicken shawarma, same thing - flavorful, not dry I would say the only downside is more by design than their doing, but the portion of shawarma when you take out is slightly less than the massive portion than when you dine in. Still more than enough to be worth it! To anybody who comments on the price as a negative, this food is totally worth what they charge. The ingredients are fresh and everything is homemade. After previously going to the Middletown location which is more expensive for much smaller portions (you are paying for the decor and rent-it's a mall) I went back to the old standby in Chester. It's not as good as I remember. It's turned into a hole in the wall and it's tired and not clean looking. Today was my first experience with Allan's Falafel. From the moment I walked in, I was made to feel like royalty. I was seated quickly, and Noreen made me feel right at home, like we were old friends! As I began looking over the menu, there were so many things to choose from, one item looking more delicious than the next! I finally settled on a steak pita. While I was waiting, Noreen brought me out 2 balls of Falafel to try! They were crunchy on the outside and fresh on the inside! The steak pita was delicious and flavored beautifully! I topped off my dinner with Turkish coffee and homemade baklava which was Oh So Good! The prices are reasonable, the portions large and the tastes were fresh! I will be going back again and again! This is our "go to" Israeli place. If you're passing through the area and don't know about Israeli food, eat here. It's a treat, and your family will understand a little more about the Israeli experience. (It's where the local Israeli expats eat, so pay attention to the vibe). It's about 20 minutes up 17 from Woodbury but a world away in quality, speed, quantity and price. The food is not unusual for American palates--the spices will not appear strange. It's just a little different but oh so good. . Lots of salads. Lots of FOOD for little money. Try the Alan's Famous. I've never once finished it. Ignore the descriptions--Just buy one. It's vegetarian--but you will never notice. Have someone else buy the schwarma for some meat. Keep a lookout for a forty-something couple. The man is Alan. They circulate, the way the proprietors of a restaurant should when they are proud of their business. They are expanding now. Hopefully they can keep the quality up. read more

I've been an Orange County resident since 1986, and am grateful that authentic Middle Eastern food has come to OC. I haven't been to the Middle East, but have befriended many folks from there who have been generous in treating me to their creations and recipes. I became a lover of these dishes and was hoping that some day I wouldn't need to drive far from Orange County in order to enjoy the "real stuff". Yes, it's nice that items such as Hummus (also spelled as Hommos) and pita bread are readily available in the local grocery stores, but nothing beats the freshly (obtained and) prepared Middle Eastern fare. Allan has made a point to keep to such authenticity, and has shown his care for the common folk, by virtue of how gracious he is with customers and fair he is with his prices.
