Oviedo on the Park occasionally has mega food truck events that invite in dozens and dozens of food trucks to come and vie for our patronage. I love these events, and I try to never miss one. A recent one we had had Allan's Jerk Shack, and it instantly caught my eye. This brightly colored school bus would catch anyone's eye. I browsed the menu, and it was really simple, which I love. No frill. Which means the food was probably really good. I ordered the curry chicken with two sides, the mac salad and the rice & beans. Oh man, it was delicious. Tender, fall off the bone meat that was very well seasoned. I like to get all the meat off the bone immediately and mix it all up with the rice. The rice and beans were very well seasoned. Well-cooked. No issues. The mac salad was pretty interesting. It was like a combination of mac 'n' cheese and the mac salad you find at Publix. Which doesn't sound great, but it was great. It was nice and bright and added a little moisture to the whole meal. I liked it. Overall, I'm very glad I chose Allan's. The meal was a great value, and I will probably come back to try his other meats the next time I see him in Oviedo.

Pros: I'm glad that they came all the way to Oviedo for our food truck night. Not a lot of Caribbean food trucks around town. It's good to see something different rather than the usual stuff. The "truck" is a giant blue school bus. Talk about eye-catching. Lol. Cons: Maybe it was to cater to a more mild clientele, but I felt like there was lack of seasoning. I have had curry chickens before that blew my socks off. This one was just a little lacking. Tips: Get the rice and beans as a side. It was actually seasoned pretty nicely. Not spicy. Just with flavor.

I am always impressed with the food from Allan's. I usually eat from the food truck when it comes to my apartment and I get the same thing every time - curry chicken with fries and rice & peas (pictured below). They hook you up with a box of delicious food that tastes home cooked and made with love. You know it's going to be good when the box is leaking a little hahahaha. The price is great for how much food you get AND the service is friendly :)

We also got the Pineapple Ginger Juice. The staff was friendly. I paid with a card so I was charged a 3% convenience fee which for our order totaled an additional $2. The wait for the food and drinks was short and we received all items in a reasonable time. The food was flavorful. The Saltfish is mixed with the Ackee and was minimal in portion size. The best item was the Fried Dumplings. They were fresh and cooked perfectly. The Pineapple Ginger Juice is a favorite. It's refreshing whether it's served bottled or from the fountain. The juice has a good balance of the pineapple and ginger flavors.

Plus, they were on Uber Eats and I didn't feel like going out. Ordered my usual Jamaican dish - brown stew chicken with rice and peas and vegetables. Started out with the carrot cake - 10/10. Cake was moist, cream cheese icing was creamy and not too sweet, a good amount of carrots in the cake, a big portion sliced in half for sharing, and an affordable price. Brown stew chicken - 5/10. Ok flavor, but the chicken was kind of dry. I would have liked extra gravy but was unable to make that special request. Rice and peas - 10/10. Rice was good, nice hint of coconut milk, peas cooked perfectly. Veggies - 2/10. Bland AF. Everything except for the cabbage tastes like it came from a can. Plantain - 2/10. Bland, kinda dry. Would only order from here again for the carrot cake.

The food was good fries was seasoned but just slightly too salty for me . The chicken was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I do wish it came with more sauce/gravy so next time I will remember to request for extra. The food was excellent and the portions are worth the price. They did not mess up my order which was great. When I arrived to pick up my order, inside was full of tables set up for people to dine in and the person in the front greeted me with a warm smile. Definitely would return back .

Wow these portions!…read more What Ofcourse I got the 2 signature meals. The jerk chicken and also the fried chicken with honey. The jerk chicken, I got with rice and peas, mixed veggies and cabbage. The cabbage was a little strange to me- not as I imagined from Jamaica steamed cabbage. The mixed veggies were also basic - like boiled frozen mixed veggies. The rice and peas were overall good but tasted a little on the hard side. The chicken though! This was the highlight - it was very flavorful, though I wish I would be able to have the sauce on the side.. For the fried chicken meal - the fried chicken was nice and hot. I got this to-go and was worried it would get soggy but it still tasted great when I got home. Environment This is located in a plaza tucked away near the corner. It seems to be a more takeout restaurant. There is some seats inside for your to enjoy the food. Since it is in a plaza, there is plenty of parking available, but in front of the restaurant could be a bit tricky. Niceness of the staff I would say she was not on the nice side. No one greeted me upon entering also they seemed preoccupied and did not once gave eye-contact. Definitely not friendly.. but nonetheless I got my food. Dollar It is like the bang for your buck. I ordered via UnderEats and there are deals, it was very reasonable as you get 2 leg quarters! Yes I would definitely order takeout again

The menu read great and we were excited to try this place since we love Jamaican Food. Was not easy to make a reservation - had to call Universal main line and choose from options. However, once we got a person, the reservation process was easy and pleasant. We informed the person taking the reservation that this was our first time visiting the restaurant so we expected a nice table - I assume they want repeat business. But instead we were seated right in front of the live band and it was so loud, we couldn't talk at all. The funny thing was that the restaurant was barely half full! Our waiter also had a tough time hearing us so we had to corret our orders a couple of times. They ran out of beef patties:-( that day. We decide to order some appetizers and a couple of entrees and shared. We had the Buffalo Soldier Jerk Wings - Had a nice spice to it and was quite delicious. We also hd the Jerk Caulifolower bites - a little sweet and spicy sauce and we all agreed this was the best dish we had! We had the Curried Goat stew - a weak curry and did not really have any spice to it. The Reggae Jamaican Jerk Chicken had a sweet spice and sticky sauce - next best dish we had. We also ordered the Coco bread- which was disappointing andd I do not recommend. It was just bread with some butter in it and definitely overpriced for what you got! Cocktails were rather weak. Server was just OK. He wasn't very attentive and did nothing to make our visit great.

Bob Marley A Tribute to Freedom met all these requirements and blew our expectations out of the water. Yes, it was a splurge, but it was some of the best food we have had. And, we had great music accompanying our meal. I ordered the Natty Dread Vegetable Pasties with yucca fries and sweet bread. The filling was delicious, but it was the pastry dough that knocked my socks off. My husband agreed! I also split an Island Mai Tai with my husband--a real, classic mai tai,l with orgeat--and it was perhaps the best we'd ever had. (It was $18, though, for maybe 8 ounces, including ice and fruit--yikes!) The spouse had the jerk chicken with rice and pidgeon peas and some sweet plantains. (I traded some of my sweet bread for some of those sweet plantains--yum!) He said it was the best food he had while in Orlando. Our 12yo got a vegetable stew (Itel Soup) with root vegetables, cassava dumplings, black beans, and plantains. She thought it was fine originally, asked for salt, and then really liked it. The husband got the 12yo's leftovers, and he thought it was great, too (but agreed that in needed salt and pepper). Nonetheless, she liked it, and we all found something on the menu we could enjoy. Finally, the server was amazing. He was so great managing our tired, grumpy 12yo (and her tired, grumpy parents). He was able to coax her into choosing a dish and eating it, too, which I don't know if we would have succeeded in doing without him. He also pointed our the many non-alcoholic beverage options, so she was able to have her own tasty drink, a Jamaican Cream Soda. There were *several* vegetarian dishes on the menu that looked fantastic and I would love to have a chance to try. I hope we can make it to Orlando again sometime to try those other dishes!
