HORRIBLE customer service. I arrived and the man working the desk let me sit for several minutes before asking if I was there for Auto Service. He then informed me that I should set up something "more proper" to get my car looked at, despite the business's website which says to come by OR book an appointment. The man clearly did not want my business and spoke to me as if I were stupid. The place may be no-frills but the service you will get is TOP NOTCH. You will get an honest answer in regards to your vehicle w/o any attempt to sell you all sorts of things you don't need. We have brought at least three or four different vehicles in over the years to them. For example, about a year ago, my Ford Explorer was making this very high pitched squeal for the apx. the first ten minutes of driving. I eventually brought it into one of the local dealerships. They had the car for a day, drove it for over 50 miles and could not tell me what was wrong. Brought it into Allbrand, explained the situation and Gary told me what the problem was: the brakes were starting to go, and this was the manufacturers way of notifying you. I had two options: continue to drive it for a couple more months with the squeal until it was time to replace OR I could replace it now. Replaced the brakes and have had no noise issue. read more

Looking to get an inspection done I simply googled it... This place was right up the street and from the few reviews that it had: all of them had great things to say... In particular the gentlemen by the name of Gary was mentioned a few times. The inspection was done fine. I ended up having to buy two new back tires for my BMW which I kind of already knew I had to do... I told Gary I would order the tires and come back the following week to clear my inspection. My original plan was to head over to the Merchants a few miles out since they had originally changed my brakes and tires last time... Assuming if they changed the tired once they could change them again right? Wrong. They couldn't even take the wheel off my car. They told me they had to break one of the bolts and break some other part that would then need to be replaced (Est: $800) for the repair. I told them forget it. All I'm saying is if they were able to take the wheels off before they should've been able to now as well. Any who... Never going back there. Went back to Gary and my man got it done. Took my wheels off without a problem at all. He put my new tires on and cleared my inspection. It was a beautiful day. Thank you so very much Gary. You're awesome. read more

I wanted to say thank you to Gary at Allbrand Auto Service for his generosity. My daughter's 21 year old Marine boyfriend's truck needed some work. I recommended he go over and see Gary at Allbrand. I've always had positive experiences with him. He was given an estimate but at the time he couldn't afford the repairs. For those that don't know, an enlisted Marine makes $20k a year. It's just not right. So the young man decided to buy the parts online, watch a YouTube video and attempt to repair it himself. Unfortunately he couldn't get the steering wheel off no matter how hard he tried. It was fused on to the column. Admitting defeat he went back to Gary for help. No questions asked, Gary helped him take the steering wheel off and charged him a few bucks for the eoffort. I know this isn't the business model Gary's accountant prefers but I appreciate him helping out a needy kid. This is why I bring my cars to Allbrand. They are a family business I trust. read more

I read here and on google reviews, and heard from a friend, how honest and reasonably priced Allbrand was, so I gave them a try when my crappy 98 Dodge Caravan's tranny started slipping. Gary readily pointed out this as a classic problem with this van and how it was its death knell. As someone new to the area, I didn't know which mechanic I could trust not to rip me off because I was a female who doesn't know a lot about cars but Allbrand has earned my wholehearted trust. I was having some issues with the electrical system in my car and none of the mechanics would touch it. The family who owns Allbrand listened to me and said they weren't sure but they would call me back after doing some research. About an hour or two later, they called saying that there was a TSB that likely covered my exact issue and that the dealer should be able to fix it for free. They gave me the TSB number and explained the problem and were so helpful. They didn't have to do any of that, but they did and were honest and for that I will take my car to them for any future problems. read more

Oddly enough, this review is not about a car repair, but about two very nice people who own and run Allbrand Auto Service. My wife and I were traveling from Boston to Charlottesville VA when our 14 year-old Mercedes broke down on the DC Beltway nearby. AAA towed our car to the shop (also AAA certified), and Gary was quite up front about the extent of the damage and repair which, briefly, was going to be equal to or more than the car was worth. Meanwhile, Debbie was talking to my wife and comforting her in what was a stressful situation. They helped us get a rental car an stayed in the shop long enough (this was on President's Day) for us to come and empty out our car. They also suggested a means of donating our car to charity since we knew then and there that we were going to need a new car. After we got home to Boston and got a new car, Debbie and Gary took care of the donation. This experience convinces me that all customers of Allbrand Auto Service will be treated fairly and sympathetically. read more

Great experience here - at first, they suspected it just needed a tune-up, but after telling them what happened, they really listened to me and were able to figure out that it was the distributor. I am from out of town so not local to the area when my car broke down on the Beltway during evening rush hour. AAA recommended and towed my car to Allbrand and I couldn't have been happier. It was a few minutes before their closing time when the tow truck got me to the Allbrand shop and I fully anticipated having to leave my car, rent a car to get home and return to the DC area in a few days to pick up my car. But Gary couldn't have been nicer. Him and the other mechanic graciously offered to stay well past closing time, get their parts supplier to bring a replacement that evening for the failed part and make the repair. He had me back on the road heading home within a few hours. Truly exceptional service and concern for a customer that is lacking at too many places these days.
