My mom had a complete stranger walk up to her in a parking lot, as she stood there with her hood open, recording the sound for me to try and figure out what 'that sound' was. He told her it was the timing belt, and then recommend his 'long time shop', Quality Discount Tire & Auto. I wish mom got his name and contact information, so that I could send him a gift basket and a card for every holiday throughout a year! Quality Discount Tire & Auto is by far THE BEST experience I've had since my old mechanic, Mr. Mike in Silver Spring retired 13 years ago. My mom and I both said 'omg we found new Mr. Mike!' after it was all said and done (if you knew Mr. Mike, then you know what I'm talking about!). Dennis communicated with me every step of the way, explaining everything in easy-to-understand terms, making recommendations, but leaving the decisions to me. He did not try to upsell or push me, he did not try to create FUD to get me to make additional repairs, he was really professional and helpful. I've dealt with mechanics for about 30 years now, and even now, as a female in her late 40s, I face similar treatment I did 30 years ago as a young girl - it's generally (falsely) assumed I have no idea of what's going on; as a matter of fact, my mom had gone to another 'recommended' place a few months prior to have the timing belt replaced (I knew something was off with it), and after speaking to the mechanic over the phone, I told her to go home and I'd deal with it when I was back in the country. After this experience with Quality Discount Tire & Auto, I feel fully confident sending mom in by herself and telling her to tell them 'fix what needs to be fixed'. Oh, and I almost feel bad mentioning that they did 3 separate repairs (full timing belt kit + tensioner, power steering (with new pump) and AC service for well, just a little over what the 'other guys' wanted for the timing belt, and about half of what I told my mom it'd probably be. You simply can't beat that! Quality Discount Tire has been servicing my car for years and it's been the best service I have ever received. I even drive 45 miles to get THEIR service and very fair pricing. Steve, Cory and Rolando really take care of me and all of their customers. They are very personable, approachable, extremely knowledgable, and most importantly, HONEST! Actually all of the staff at Quality Discount Tire have these qualities. Many times I take my car to the dealer in my town just to find out what "may" be wrong with my car. Then I call down to Quality Discount Tire and speak to Steve, Cory or Rolando and let them know what the dealer said and ask what they think. Most of the time, there are things the dealer tells me I need to do and then I find out from Quality Discount Tire they are not necessary. Other times the dealer is right, but I get a much better price from Quality Discount Tire to repair my car. And I still save money even driving 90 miles round trip for their service. At times my car needs to stay at the shop for more than a day and they have given me a "loaner car" to drive at no charge!! How's that for excellent service! As others have said in these reviews, they have pointed me in the right direction on what needs to be done to my car. Sometimes I think other things need to be done to my car or I think I need all new tires. Quality Discount Tire will not do things that aren't necessary just to make money. They let me know the appropriate and correct things that need to be done to my car and always make sure my car is safe. They let me know for example I only need 2 tires and not 4. They always explain what they will be doing to my car and why and on a level that I can understand. These guys are the best! These days you don't see a lot excellent service from companies which is unfortuanate. However, Quailty Discount Tire consistently offers truly the best customer service, great pricing, and their mechanical work is awesome too! I will continue to have my car serviced here for many more years to come! It's rare these days that you find a business that lives up to the hype surrounding it; quality discount tires and auto is no different, for it far exceeds any review you will read. Where to begin. . . I'm a car nut who just moved 1600 miles from anyone with a garage that I know and trust. . . until now. After picking up a flat in the terrible roads of the DMV yesterday I had no idea where to turn after I got my wife's donut thrown on; so I did what most of us do, I googled. Quality Discount Tires and Auto had nothing but stellar reviews and now I know why. Not only did Steve, Rod, and company get me completely taken care of, but also knowing i'm a little anal about car care, walked me into the shop and let me talk to them and see what condition the parts coming off were. A big plus in my book. As others have mentioned, no chance of pressure for an up-sale. Went in expecting to replace both tires on the axel for rotation purposes so I knew I was going to spend a little. However, Steve talked with me about the options and agreed that even though $35 is very reasonable to patch a tire, my tires didn't justify it with the amount of tread left. He let me know how long I could get by on those tires if I needed to because he knew money was a concern. WOW! I ended up going with two conti's, and once again something new and pricey came into the picture: TPS/TPMS. The shops back home (Houston) never changed out our stems when we've had new tires put on and they were showing their age (2008 chevy cobalt)...He let me know that they were okay for now but eventually would fail and even checked the rear tire stems they didn't have to do any service on. I prefer to be preventative whenever possible so I had them replaced but appreciate his honesty that I didn't NEED them. Lastly, they mounted and balanced two tires, showed me everything, did a full synthetic oil change, and made me feel incredibly welcome to the area, all before my appointment time even rolled around. Don't let the name fool you; they do far more than just tires. I've been taking my cars here for over 15 years, and my only complaint is that they don't do more--if they did full engine and body work as well, this would be my place. I've had brake and suspension work done here, along with getting plenty of replacement tires and fixed tires over the years. Never do they try to up-sell or recommend anything you don't need. Go to another brake shop for brake pads: "You HAVE to get your rotors changed." Wrong. Go to another tire shop with a nail in your tire: "That can't be patched." Wrong. I recently took my 5K-mile car to the dealer for an electronic recall and free 1-year oil change, and the day before one of my tires had lost a fair amount of pressure. The dealer discovered a nail in my tire, and despite my insisting that it was in a place in the tread that could be patched, they insisted that it could not. So, having my car hostage, I paid a sh*t-ton for a new tire. The next day I discovered that the dealer had replaced the wrong tire (nail in exact same location in tire after driving only 4.1 miles), so I went straight to Quality Tire. Walter squeezed me in the next day (Thanksgiving week) and, of course, they were able to patch the tire. There was no way I was going back to the dealer since they 1) wouldn't own up to there mistake, and 2) they would have told me I needed another $278 tire replacement. My mistake was not rescheduling my dealer appointment and taking my car to Quality Tire first. Special shout out to Steve, the owner, and Walter, both of whom have always been great. Quality Discount tire has been my go-to tire installation/repair place for years. I could have sworn that I had written them a review in Yelp before, but I guess not. Anyway, very easy to make an appointment, and in my latest visit I had four tires installed (which I provided) a "road force" balance on each one and also had a wheel that was bent straightened out. Because the wheel was not bent to badly, they cut me a break on the cost of the wheel straightening, which even at full price (~$145) I think is pretty reasonable, regardless. I was actually surprised at how fast they completed the work the day I was there. I walked up the street and sat in Java Nation with a cappuccino, working remotely, while I was waiting, it was all very low stress. They did a really great job and I have always appreciated their "quality" work here. In the past, I've had then do an alignment for me and they have plugged several tires for me, too. (In one case the same tire several times!) Anyway, they are not the cheapest out there in terms of their labor rate/mounting and balancing costs, but they are very competitive and I would say reasonable in what they charge. Sometimes, you can find tire wholesalers who will send the tires to Quality, and they might even have a pre-negotiated cost for installation. I think I actually did that once. Anyway, they sell tires, too, and while I only ever bought tires from them once (had to...one went flat and had to replace the pair because it was an AWD vehicle) their tire pricing is not outlandish in case you don't want to "bring your own". This is my 2nd time using QDTA, and both times the service was amazing. The 1st time in 2021, the day of my son's graduation, I got a flat tire. I called around, and found QDTA. i explained how I needed my tired fixed asap, because my son was graduating, and I was able to get my car towed there, and they replaced it for me and I was able to get to my son's graduation in time. I couldn't have been more thankful for them and their quick service and "saving the day" for me. Last week, my tire completey blew out, and I remembered them from last time. I called, explained the situation, my financial situation and Walter worked on finding tires for me at a lower price, but explained to me that they wouldn't be in until Monday. I was totally fine with that. Any dollar saved, the better for me. They were great with customer service, keeping in contact with me with any questions or concerns, updates, and of course once my car was ready for pickup. I walked out of there thanking everyone for being so kind and telling them I appreciated all of them. Everyone I talked to was professional, understanding, and just all around great people.
