My car wouldn't start! Panic sets in! I went across the street to a different mechanic who would come look at my car or give me any advice about what to do. So I called my insurance agent. He recommended Mustache Mechanics, because they work with a lot of Priuses. Nestor (the owner) and Egly the receptionist put me at ease. They gave me the contact info for Benjie's Towing, who came to jump start my car. Then, I drove over to their shop. They were able to change my Prius battery (a gel one) for $325. I have consistently brought my truck and my wife's car for repairs and maintenance. I am happy with this place as they tell you what the problem rather than just changing parts until they fix the problem. Price is also right. They have never overcharged me, and they hourly rate is on pair with the industry (no dealer prices). In terms of quality of work, i don't recall having to go back for a review of a repair. Once something was repaired, i had no issues. They can work on older and newer cars without any issue (they work on our 2001 Ford Ranger and on our 2013 Ford Cmax). Sometimes it is hard to schedule things in a rush (understandable as they have a lot of cars for repair) but they will try to find you a spot if you need an urgent repair. read more

** WARNING - Long review** We were regular customers but within the past year they have cost us over 3k in repairs through 1) over charging us and 2) negligent service leading to a second mechanic having to fix the problem. In June 2023 we brought our Mazda CX-5 in to have the rotors looked at since the car was shaking when using the brakes. At the cost of over $2k we had- Front and Rear Brakes and Rotors replaced, calipers serviced, four new tires bought and balanced, and an oil change (for over $100 mind you). We also brought our car in a second time in June because the parking brake was sporadically sticking and would not release when trying to go into reverse. For this issue we were told the problem could not be replicated and things were fine. In September 2023 when the rear passenger tire starts smoking and smells like brakes, we again go to the mechanic. They replace the hydraulic hoses for the rear brakes for roughly $462. I ask why this was not done three months prior when we got all new brakes and was told "this is an issue we wouldn't have noticed before." I still question why the hoses were not inspected at the June visit (negligence in my opinion). Earlier this month (June 2024) we seek a new mechanic because our parking brake is still causing issues and we no longer trust Mustache Mechanics to do a thorough inspection. We take our car to Glen's Auto Service (recommended as a mechanic familiar with Mazdas) and within ten minutes a mechanic was aware of the issue at hand since he has seen it many times before. However, due to complete negligence and faulty labor on behalf of Mustache Mechanics we get this message: On your 2016 Mazda CX-5 the rear calipers were leaking brake fluid, some of the fluid leaked on to the parking brake actuators causing them to fail. Due to this failure the brake pads and rotors were very burned. To fix the vehicle we had to replace the rear brake rotors, pads, calipers, and the parking brake actuators. I have included with this email the Invoice for the repairs, the codes that were present on the vehicle, and pictures of the damaged parts. Thank you. We had to replace our brakes and rotors within one year of them being installed on our car. The mechanic at Glen's was aghast at the condition of the car and said, "I cannot believe the brakes didn't lock up on you while driving." He also pointed out that our tires had been balanced in six locations. Not four, but six. I would like to point out that up until last spring and summer we didn't have a bad experience with Mustache Mechanics. But I can say with absolute confidence that they will never get my business again. read more

I have used Mustache Mechanics for a couple years now and they are awesome, very fair price, super convenient, and they text (very responsive). Oil, brakes, new clutch, battery, and more and it was all great and extremely professional. On one occasion, I had a scraping sound on my wheel and an employee tweaked it and it stopped. He explained to me that it would cost thousands of dollars to get replaced but that it was completely unnecessary and not to let anybody talk me into replacing it. It saved me tons of money and was a wonderful example of his integrity and professionalism. I also have a second very old and complicated car. There were all sorts of electrical issues after the car battery died. Two other mechanics told me I would need to pay $2500 (and wait 5 months to get the part). The owner of Mustache took the time to research the issue for me and found a service that reprogramed the part verses replace it which cost me only $250 and he didn't even make any money off of me for it. Excellent Mechanic.If he can't fix your vehicle, he will tell you right away or if you will put more money on your vehicle without any satisfaction, he will recommend you if possible to look for another vehicle. However just 1 week into using my key it stopped working again. (The lock/unlock button) I had to again resort to manually unlocking & locking my vehicle. My brakes were TOTALLY messed up. Unfortunately, I really pushed them to the limit. After I talked to a couple of other mechanics on Capitol Hill, a good friend recommended Mustache Mechanics. Bottom line: 1.) He was much less expensive AND actually fixed the problem, because he only fixed what was needed. 2,) He took the time to show me exactly what the issue was, described how it probably happened, and gave me an honest assessment of the other repairs that I should address in the near future. Trustworthy, straightforward and very reasonably priced. All around positive experiences after working with Mustache on several occasions. I've now had three cars in for state inspections as well as some minor repairs done on the electrical and lights. Mustache has been easy to work with (including timing and scheduling), quick to get the job done, and detailed in their explanations of the work and the cost drivers (parts vs. labor) for each and every repair. Another good tip: Mustache can also repair and replace Hybrid batteries for a Toyota Prius at a much better price than the dealer. Worth checking it out. We took our Prius to Mustache motors for a year during the pandemic. They did good work the first time so we took it back when we had an insurance claim. But they let the adjuster make the final determination. We had faith in their ability to advocate for us and see the problems that the adjuster didn't want to see. But they didn't want to take the time to do that. Even when we told them the car did not drive like it should, they refused to look for the problem. So why did we use them? Don't know. And we won't use them again. They cost us $500 in repairs that the adjuster did not include and Mustache would not look for. So don't assume they will go out of their way for you, because they won't. read more

They carefully looked it over and pointed out in person the few things it needed in order to pass. I took two cars in for the Maryland inspection. Both failed, but entirely because I wasn't careful about making sure they were ready before I brought them in. Mustache Mechanics was great about carefully explaining what I needed to do to get the cars to pass. Also, it is one of the few places open on Saturday for inspections.
