I am a frequent (and usually loyal) Delta traveler, but I wanted to try the Provo airport, so I broke my allegiance temporarily. I've heard horror stories about being nickel and dimed-unexpected charges that add up to end up costing the same as it would on another airline. So I came prepared. Yes, it's true that you can get super inexpensive flights here, but you'll pay for bags, assigned seats, snacks, etc. But I found that the plane itself was rather comfortable and had plenty of room, so I had no qualm about it for a short flight. I have flown with Allegiant dozens of times. I'm not sure why I always think my experience will be different but it NEVER is. I agree with other reviews saying that the 76% on-time rate must be fabricated somehow. My last 5 flights with allegiant have all had major delays or been cancelled. Allegiant is the absolute worst. I have faced up to 36 hour delays with little to no compensation. Today because of allegiant I missed my little sister's graduation, and that's something I will never get back. Gate agents were rude and dismissive even when I approached without anger to see if there was a resolution. The customer service line is a bumbling joke who can do absolutely nothing helpful for you. I booked my flight at 5pm Thursday for a flight that was the following morning at 8am. No check in confirmation issues. Provo airport was clean and efficient with TSA. The plane was simple as far as no entertainment or free snacks but I had zero issues. I was concerned with all the bad reviews but for how much money I saved to have a smooth flight with friendly staff and no delays I wanted to make sure to share my experience. San Diego to Utah is a normal commute for us. For years we were forced to use another airline. Quite often the flights were pretty rocky. Once even involved an emergency landing. With all of the changes, we would often drive instead. Allegiant started the SAN to Provo flight. Gosh, we took it every time we needed. One day they stopped. Imagine the disappointment. Needing to make another trip encouraged my husband to take another peak. Hooray! They restored the route. How convenient. It's a great deal. We're shocked at the amount of legroom compared to the other airlines. Sure the seats might not recline. They are definitely more comfortable than the ones that do. I have used this airline multiple times to fly to and from Arizona over the past two or so years, and nothing beats the prices and the convenience! The two most recent times were in May 2020 and December 2020, and they were starkly different experiences. In May, we were handed a packet with sanitizing wipes and other protective items as we boarded the aircraft, the flight was not booked to capacity (so we were sitting every other row), and the pilot drew our attention to the hospital-grade air filters aboard. You could see the air above your head, and it felt very sterile. In December, when COVID numbers were worse, nearly every seat in the small two-roomed gate at the Provo Airport was taken. When we boarded the plane, we had no sanitizing wipes, visible air filters, and we were packed in, full to capacity. I got nervous knowing that because our plane arrived to the gate late and they rushed us all onto the plane, the aircraft was not sanitized well. I arrived at the airport at 4:00pm, as I walked in with my husband and child we saw no one at the check in desk, we stood at the desk for 10 minutes with no one to help us we saw other people heading to Mesa Gateway waiting in the lobby and as we were about to find someone they announced our plane was having mechanical issues and that our flight would be delayed by an hour, I then proceeded to receive a notification stating that my flight was delayed to 5:45pm departure and 4:30pm boarding time. Around 15 mins later there was an announcement says they were going to start the boarding process, we proceeded to the ticket counter where a TSA Employee asked if we needed help and I said I needed to check in, he said of course let me find an employee for you. We waited a while for an employee to come and then an employee I believe his name was Anthony came in a rush. He proceeded to ask if I was on this flight and I said yes and he said well you are late so you can't take any of your bags. I had my son in his stroller, my one checked luggage bag, and my sons car seat in his bag. He proceeded to tell me that I could not take any of my bags other than my stroller. I asked why that was and he said because I was late. We were of course confused and asked him why not. He told us that the ticket counter closes 45 minutes before the flight takes off which if our flight departure time was 5:15pm which I have a screenshot stating, which would mean that 4:45pm would be the cutoff time for check in. He did not care for my explaination about the times he just said my bags were not flying. I off course start panicking because the stuff in my checked bag is my sons diapers, his clothes, his food, his medicine. And i couldn't take it at all? I had to fight with the man to let my car seat go on, As I'm asking him what are my options he ignores me and helps the next guest. I start getting frustrated because he is now ignoring us, we proceed to ask when the next flight is and he said tomorrow and continued helping the next guests, he couldn't even give us a time,i asked why i haven't had problems before on flights I've shown up 30 mins before departure but he kept cutting us off saying our bags weren't going i then ask him to stop being rude and have a conversation with us and he said 10pm. My husband stepped in at this point because i was crying. My husband got him to let me on my flight just without my luggage. I was crying my husband had to leave me to go through TSA, I went through TSA sobbing at the way I was treated, I could not defend myself because the risk of getting my flight revoked because an employee was having a bad day. I should have not been treated that way by any employee! That is certainly not okay. I have never been so victimized in my entire life and in front of my child! I have flown with Allegiant for years and never had any issues, i even showed up 20 mins before departure with checked luggage and never had an issue but this is not okay. Know what you're getting in to and you'll be fine. This is budget flying. No complimentary anything, but very cheap. I decided to take the Amtrak train from SLC to San Francisco with my girlfriend for a short, fun trip. Because we didn't have a lot of time, we decided to fly back. Allegiant flights back actually cost us less than the train tickets did. We paid about $150 after all fees to fly from the Oakland airport to the Provo airport. The seats were fine, and fortunately we had three seats for the two of us. We already had snacks packed from the train ride, so the lack of complimentary airline snacks didn't bother us. We had also packed light (a backpack each) so we didn't have to pay for any luggage or carry-on. If you fly Allegiant not knowing that it's a budget airline and expecting everything you'd normally get included in a flight twice the price, you're going to be in for some bad surprises, but if you go in with knowledge you should be just fine. read more

Pay very close attention. Because you can have either a REALLY good experience with Allegiant, or a REALLY bad experience with Allegiant. It all has to do with your expectations and knowing the inside scoop beforehand. So I'm about to give you the inside scoop. First of all, you're probably flying Allegiant for price. Hecks to the yes. Provo to Mesa Gateway for $109 round trip. On the regular. You can't beat that. You ask yourself, however, what's the catch? Indeed there are a few catches. First, you should pay with debit card. That gets you a nice little discount. On their website, they advertise the debit card price. You can pay with credit card, but it's like $6 or $8 bucks more. Second, that's the price you pay without bringing any kind of luggage or carry on. I need to repeat that, because some of you will be badly surprised with carry on fees. If you want to bring carry on luggage, you pay for it. That means that for the price of your ticket, you get a personal item. That can be a purse, a laptop bag, a grocery bag, or a reasonably-sized backpack. It has to fit underneath the seat in front of you. I use a school-size backpack and it fits enough clothes for 3-4 days and my laptop. That's it. Third, if you want to check a bag, that will cost you extra as well. This shouldn't be a surprise, as most of the major carriers have had this policy for several years. Fourth, you can't pick your seat. You do have assigned seating, but if you want to pick your seat, you'll pay extra. Fifth, don't cancel or change your flight. I mean, most airlines will ding you, but with a low price like this, you really have no value in your ticket if you need to change or cancel. Sixth, that plane is cramped and you don't get a beverage. This is not a complaint, but those rows are close together. I can usually rest my head on my knees and sleep on most planes, but these rows don't let my head clear. Unless you get an exit row (or pay to get one) you'll have one of these tight rows. And beverages and snacks are only available for purchase. Know before you go. It's a discount carrier. The price is fantastic. Provo and Mesa airports (and other small ones like Ogden where they fly) are the best kept secret in air travel. Pack a personal item like a backpack, don't bring any luggage, don't pay for any of the nickel and dime stuff along the way and you'll have a super-cheap, amazing (if not bare bones) flight experience. read more

The times went from leaving at 4:00 then to 5:00 then to 5:30 then to 4:30 and then finally to 5:45! They require your checked in bags to be 40 lbs instead of 50 otherwise it's $50 in fees. Today I was flying from Provo to San Fran for a red hot chili peppers concert and they had a "malfunction" and had to bring a mechanic over. I missed my concert. $500 out the window. The same issue happened with my sister and they canceled her flight so they missed their first day in Disneyland. This review is for my flight to and from Oakland airport from Provo. Right before departure, I had asked one of the flight attendants if I could use the restroom before we took off seeing as people were still boarding. She was SO rude and passive aggressive and refused to let me, and demanded I take my seat. THEN, coming home from San Fran, the same issue happened. We had taken off, stopped ascending and it had been about 15-20 minutes since take off, so I assumed it was ok for me to use the restroom. As I approached the bathroom, a flight attendant named Harmony physically grabbed me by the arm and said "You don't have authority to be here right now, the seatbelt sign hasn't been turned off, return to your seat immediately." She was SO hostile for no reason. When I left the plane, I got down the terminal and realized I had left something in the overhead bin. I turned around to get back on the plane to retrieve it and that same flight attendant (harmony) stopped me and asked "where do you think you're going?" I told her I had left something and she made me WAIT OUTSIDE in the cold while she went back and retrieved them for me. Her whole demeanor was rude and unprofessional. I realize allegiant is a cheap way to travel, but if you're going to be a flight attendant, you need to realize you're in the hospitality business. The gamble I took, in flying Allegiant airlines, paid off. I went in to this situation with my eyes wide open. A little research will turn up thousands (if not millions) of horror stories from people who've had bad experiences with Allegiant. I'm fortunate to say that I am not one of them. When you fly with Allegiant, do your homework. It's very easy to be blindsided by their stringent policies. For instance; you'll get a lower ticket price if you pay with your debit card vs. your credit card. There is no complimentary ANYTHING on their flights. This includes beverages, and carry-ons. You can take a purse, or small backpack (there are size guidelines) for free, but there's a fee for anything that falls outside those rules. Essentially, it's ok if it'll fit under the seat in front of you. But if you want to put it in an overhead bin, you're going to pay. If you want an assigned seat, you guessed it?! it'll cost you. And it's not like Southwest Airlines, in that you can pick your seat once you're on the plane. With Allegiant, if you don't buy an assigned seat, you are randomly assigned. I was traveling with a friend. We didn't want to pay extra to be able to sit next to each other. Both legs of the flight we weren't seated next to each other, even though we bought our tickets under the same itinerary. There's no "seat shuffle" after everyone's boarded either. Your assigned seat, is your assigned seat. The end. If you check a bag, it'll save $ to pay for it when you buy your ticket. And their weight limit on checked baggage is less than other airlines. Their max is 40 lbs. Just like everything else, they're serious about it. A gentleman ahead of me in line to check his bag, had to have it weighed multiple times (he was taking things out of it each time), before the weight was acceptable. Let's see, what else? Oh yes, the legroom is drastically less than you'll get on other airlines. I'm 5'7", and it was cozy for me, the seats, themselves, are also pretty uncomfortable. Getting in to a relaxed enough position to sleep was impossible. Also, Allegiant airlines doesn't have daily flights out of either the Provo, or Ogden airport. Whatever your destination, the general rule of thumb looks like there are two flights each week. In my case, Allegiant flew on Mondays and Fridays. Travel with Allegiant is certainly designed for the weekend warrior. It also means that if your flight is cancelled: you won't be able to hop on another Allegiant flight later in the day, to get home. You won't even be able to get on a flight the next day! You'll either be stuck for several days, or you'll have to pony up some serious cash to get a flight on another airline. My final assessment? I only paid $120 for a roundtrip ticket from Provo to Oakland! I'd fly Allegiant airlines again. But there's no way I'd fly Allegiant with kids in tow. It's one thing to run the risk of possible travel complications when I'm traveling alone. It's another to add kids to the mix. It's also the reason I didn't give this review 5 stars. The Allegiant employees were downright rude to the families traveling with small children. On both of my flights. Not cool. But I'll learn from other people's mistakes, & keep my own kids home when it comes to flying Allegiant. read more

The bad news, this is a company that does not put a high priority on the needs or expectations of its passengers. They do not appear to be overly concerned if there is a mechanical issue and there is no mechanic on duty or available backup aircraft. They also choose to not follow industry standards on baggage weight limits and will happily charge $50 for any bag that is even 1 pound over their set limit although they will allow the passenger to take the offending weight on board as a carry-on; so much for the "saving fuel" argument. My flight was delayed a total of 7 HOURS because the Allegiant crew failed to make proper mechanical checks before departure. I arrived a full 2 hours before the flight was scheduled to leave. We boarded the plane on schedule, then sat in our cramped, hot seats for 90 MINUTES. Then we were asked to deplane so the crew could fix something... yeah not exactly what you want to hear when you're about to take off. And why couldn't Allegient have performed the regular maintenance tests BEFORE boarding 200+ people on the broken plane?! We then sat out in the terminal for TWO AND A HALF HOURS. We boarded again. We deplaned again. We boarded a final time, and, unbelievably, were actually able to take off from LAX. I arrived home just about 10 hours past my original arrival time. It sucked. I emailed Allegiant customer service about this experience... since it was entirely the fault of the Allegient crew and mechanics that I had to spend a miserable day at LAX, eating expensive airport food, and my brother in law had to spend a whole extra day at my house waiting to pick me up. This was Allegient's response: "Allegiant Air respectfully declines your request for compensation. Allegiant Travel has the right to change or cancel flights without compensation per section 85 of our Contract of Carriage http://www2.allegiantair.com/contract-carriage which states: B. Carrier shall not be liable for any failure or delay in operating any flight due to causes beyond Carrier's control, including but not limited to, acts of God, governmental actions, fire, weather, mechanical difficulties, Air Traffic Control, strikes or labor disputes, or inability to obtain fuel for the flight in question." Provo airport is the way to go. My wife and I went to LA and back for only 120 each. You pretty much can't beat that. A ton of my friends have also been using it too and I didn't hear any complaints. I have heard that customer service was bad in other reviews, but I didn't experience that. There are things you need to be careful of, but the website clearly tells it to you. I booked a flight for my mom from San Diego to Provo to spend time together. I thought it would be more convenient to pick her up 20 minutes from my house vs 1 hour. There is ONE flight that leaves San Diego's commuter terminal. ONE. They don't have to wait for flights to come in, the aircraft is already there. So why the 4+ hour delay? Mechanical problems. When I told her I was in Utah waiting for my mom to arrive, she quipped 'I heard you the first time!' Oh hell no!!! You get what you pay for. Cheap flights which are great IF everything is perfect! I was stuck in The airport because of "weather" delays. My flight was delayed from 1pm to 2 then to 4 then to 7 then to 10 then to 11 then 2am. I understand that weather is unpredictable but when you have little fog for 5 hours you'd think they would try to get people out as fast as possible. Not the case. To top off the whole experience they don't offer refunds, they don't offer compensation or help with transportation or hotels. Worst experience with traveling I have ever had. We were halfway to our destination to Provo, Utah. The Pilot decides to turn back to LAX due to foggy conditions in Provo. Our flight was at 7am, the next flight was placed for the NEXT DAY at 1:45 PM. I called customer service about helping us find a different flight or reimbursing us for something to stay somewhere overnight. NOTHING. They can't do anything. They literally had no options. The ticket was cheap, so it was expected that the quality would not be as great as other airlines. But honestly, it is better to travel with a nice airline and pay more, than to travel cheap with these guys and have inconveniences that end up costing you more time and money. "Email our customer service team about the situation," is what the lady on the phone said. "but keep in mind it will take about a day or two for them to respond." NEVER FLY INTO THIS AIRPORT. They screwed us all over today and kept us waiting for nine hours saying we Couldn't fly in our plane because they hit a bird but then boarded the next flight into that plane after they cancelled ours after keeping us there all day. read more

As a current member of the U.S. Army, I used the benefit of waived baggage fees that Allegiant offers to military members who show their DOD/Military ID upon checking in, I have also called Allegiant head quarters in Las Vegas to validate that all I needed to do is show my DOD/MILITARY ID and I was to be given the benefit. Not only I called once but twice and spoke to two different operators to verify that this information was accurate and solid. I flew from Mesa Gateway Airport (Mesa, Arizona) to Provo Airport (Provo, Utah). The following is posted on Allegiant's website -Must be Active Personnel; this includes 'leaves' while on Active duty such as weekend passes, transitioning from one base to another, or temporary duty -Must show valid Active Military Identification -No charge for Checked Baggage (up to 3 pieces) -Each Checked Bag must weigh less than 99 lbs and not exceed outside dimensions of 80 linear inches -One free Carry-on bag not to exceed 9 x 14 x 22 -Bag fee waiver applies only to baggage belonging to Active Military Personnel on the itinerary All the times I've been on leave for the military, I have never received any documentation or DA Form 31 (only heard DA Form 31 is used for emergencies such as family deaths etc.). My career so far in the Army, all "Weekend passes" or "Leaves" were all verbal by command of my leaders. Here is the core problem of my rant, at Mesa Gateway Airport Allegiant's check in desk I proudly showed my Military ID and my baggage fees were waived and with this GREAT BENEFIT, I expressed my appreciation of their support to Military Members. Upon returning home flying from Provo Airport and checking in at Allegiant. There was an elderly lady, sounded like she was foreign because of her thick accent. She told me that my Military ID wasn't good enough and I had to show military orders. At this point unexpectedly, I would have to pay $100+ dollars to check in all my bags so yea I was a little frustrated which I think anyone would. I explained that at Mesa Gateway Airport I showed them my DOD/Military ID and the benefit was given. In the end I didn't pay for my baggage and the lady told me "Next time show military orders!" in a rude tone. Definitely shows a lack of professionalism and customer service. Looking back on the incident, I think there could've been better routes for this lady to take rather than argue with me such as simply asking me to step to the side of the line and she was going to call headquarters herself to verify the benefit because there could've been a change that she wasn't aware of. Couple days later after the incident I got a hold of the manager and explained my experience. He said she did the right thing. I asked him if he contacted Allegiant Headquarters to verify my concerns and he said no and I needed military orders. Our conversation pretty much ended after that. Again, showed a lack of professionalism... especially from someone who is in a leadership position. It seems like there is a misinformation between Allegiant Air at Provo and headquarters in regards to Military member's benefit through Allegiant Air. I called Allegiant headquarters again not one once, not only twice but three times I called after this incident and all three times (different operators) gave me the same information... show your current DOD/Military ID and you qualify for baggage benefits from Allegiant. I would like to express my appreciation to Allegiant Air for supporting our troops of our great country. This benefit is great and is something that has definitely earned my business. Though I am a little apprehensive to fly to Provo through Allegiant due to this incident but this doesn't mean I don't use Allegiant to fly to other regions in the country. read more
