As a current member of the U.S. Army, I used the benefit of waived baggage fees that Allegiant offers to military members who show their DOD/Military ID upon checking in, I have also called Allegiant head quarters in Las Vegas to validate that all I needed to do is show my DOD/MILITARY ID and I was to be given the benefit. Not only I called once but twice and spoke to two different operators to verify that this information was accurate and solid. I flew from Mesa Gateway Airport (Mesa, Arizona) to Provo Airport (Provo, Utah). The following is posted on Allegiant's website -Must be Active Personnel; this includes 'leaves' while on Active duty such as weekend passes, transitioning from one base to another, or temporary duty -Must show valid Active Military Identification -No charge for Checked Baggage (up to 3 pieces) -Each Checked Bag must weigh less than 99 lbs and not exceed outside dimensions of 80 linear inches -One free Carry-on bag not to exceed 9 x 14 x 22 -Bag fee waiver applies only to baggage belonging to Active Military Personnel on the itinerary All the times I've been on leave for the military, I have never received any documentation or DA Form 31 (only heard DA Form 31 is used for emergencies such as family deaths etc.). My career so far in the Army, all "Weekend passes" or "Leaves" were all verbal by command of my leaders. Here is the core problem of my rant, at Mesa Gateway Airport Allegiant's check in desk I proudly showed my Military ID and my baggage fees were waived and with this GREAT BENEFIT, I expressed my appreciation of their support to Military Members. Upon returning home flying from Provo Airport and checking in at Allegiant. There was an elderly lady, sounded like she was foreign because of her thick accent. She told me that my Military ID wasn't good enough and I had to show military orders. At this point unexpectedly, I would have to pay $100+ dollars to check in all my bags so yea I was a little frustrated which I think anyone would. I explained that at Mesa Gateway Airport I showed them my DOD/Military ID and the benefit was given. In the end I didn't pay for my baggage and the lady told me "Next time show military orders!" in a rude tone. Definitely shows a lack of professionalism and customer service. Looking back on the incident, I think there could've been better routes for this lady to take rather than argue with me such as simply asking me to step to the side of the line and she was going to call headquarters herself to verify the benefit because there could've been a change that she wasn't aware of. Couple days later after the incident I got a hold of the manager and explained my experience. He said she did the right thing. I asked him if he contacted Allegiant Headquarters to verify my concerns and he said no and I needed military orders. Our conversation pretty much ended after that. Again, showed a lack of professionalism... especially from someone who is in a leadership position. It seems like there is a misinformation between Allegiant Air at Provo and headquarters in regards to Military member's benefit through Allegiant Air. I called Allegiant headquarters again not one once, not only twice but three times I called after this incident and all three times (different operators) gave me the same information... show your current DOD/Military ID and you qualify for baggage benefits from Allegiant. I would like to express my appreciation to Allegiant Air for supporting our troops of our great country. This benefit is great and is something that has definitely earned my business. Though I am a little apprehensive to fly to Provo through Allegiant due to this incident but this doesn't mean I don't use Allegiant to fly to other regions in the country. read more

If I could review this as a 1/2 or zero stars I would. This airline is THE WORST. and the airport is awful as well. The airline charges u for everything. and they say it's still less money than their competition BUT with 2 flights a week. There is little room for error. and with these crappy old planes and poor customer service, there are lots of problems. Provo, no staff on hand. So if the plane needs help. They have to call it in from slc. Just awful. Allegiant airlines is awful, just awful. And when you hold for 60 minutes in the phone to see if they would consider a voucher or something. I've been delayed multiple times on Allegiant, but kept going back because of rock bottom prices. But after today I will no longer fly with them, here's what happened: My Mom's flight from Provo to Mesa on Allegiant was cancelled today, they notified us on the way to the airport. The flight was rescheduled to tomorrow at 7 AM. My mom has a different flight (on allegiant) tomorrow morning from Mesa to Rapid City at 6:40 AM, which she now obviously can't make because the rescheduled flight won't get her to Mesa in time. So, we had to book a different flight on United out of SLC tomorrow to get her to Rapid City, and it was expensive. After 3 hours on hold with Allegiant, they won't refund her flight from Mesa to Rapid City because "we tell people to not book flights so close together", and customer service acted like it was her fault. So basically they are taking zero responsibility for cancelling their flight today and for the other flights it affects. Pretty freaking ticked. I'm obviously never flying Allegiant again, but wondering if there's any advice on how to rectify this crap. Ideas? The very unhelpful customer service rep's name is Linda, employee #2304. read more

Worst customer service ever. The flight is cheap but there are a ton of hidden costs. You better pray that you don't have to cancel or reschedule your flight because there is a hidden $75 cancelation/reschedule fee plus $14 for the inconvenience. Don't waste your time or your money. 5/28/18 our flight from Provo to Mesa was scheduled for a 3:30pm takeoff was then delayed to 4:30pm then 5pm then 30 mins before the scheduled takeoff they announce it has been delayed to 10:10pm.....at 10:10 we were still sitting at the gate then once we finally get on the plane and are all strapped in at 11pm they announce that there is a problem with the landing gear and that we won't be taking off till 12pm the next day...we are currently sitting at the gate at 11:34pm with a lot of pissed off customers, this is a flight from hell, should've listened to all the bad reviews about allegient, instead we just found out firsthand that this is a piece of sh*t airline...never will fly with again.... read more

I really like flying Allegient. Short non-stop flights to my family and they don't lose my luggage like other Airlines! I usually get a soft drink or water at the airport and if flights are delayed they offer free soft drinks and bottles of water. I don't eat onboard a 2 hour flight, so no money lost there. If you want to be nickeled and dimed, then this is the airline for you! You pay extra to choose a seat, you get no carry on bag, or even to print boarding pass. I flew from Oakland to Provo and the check in bag was allowed to be 50 pounds. The return flight they tell me it has to be 40 pounds. I was at 49 pounds and they charged me $50. I guess the plane just wouldn't be able to take off with the extra 9 pounds. Needless to say I wasn't happy. The lady behind me weighs more than me and my bag combined, but I'm sure she didn't have to pay extra. It's completely stupid. read more

Their flights are routinely late, their website doesn't work (their support staff even admits to it readily), their flight attendants are curt, and their customer service is useless. Customer service wait times are 30 mins plus, even at non-peak times, and does nothing to help but simply reiterate their company's heartless, draconian policies designed to rip their customers off. We flew with Allegiant from Ontario to Provo and although we did pay for all the extra perks- priority boarding, seat selection, carry on bags and a checked bag- the fare was still half the price of other airlines. We had a pleasant round trip flight and we arrived early on both flights. As long as you pre book you will get the discount rate for the bags and if you want to sit together just pay for the seat selection- its not much. Pleasant experience and we'll definitely fly with Allegiant again. read more

I would give this airline 0 stars if I could. Both times I've flown with Allegiant the flight was delayed. The first flight was by 3 hours. The current flight I am still waiting. There was some moderate snowfall in Provo, UT and they said that the flight (that came from Mesa) was circling overhead waiting for better visibility. About 10 minutes later they said that the flight was running low on fuel so had to go back to Mesa to refuel but would then turn right back around. The air was clear literally 10 minutes later, but instead of turning around, it continued to Mesa. Fine, so I think we'll be delayed about 3 hours. Nope, we hear the 1038am flight is now moved to 530p. Okay, fine. Bullshit considering they said it was going to refuel and turn around, but fine. About an hour later, they say it is now delayed until 630p! I ask why? The skies are clear in Provo and the weather is clear in Mesa. So why is the flight that was going to Mesa to refuel and then immediately turn right back around, now delayed for an ADDITIONAL hour!? People here say it's because now they have to find a crew. I said "How was the flight rescheduled at all until 530p if there was never a crew confirmed?" She then said some bullshit about the weather in other parts of the country that may have delayed the crew. I then call the customer service number and was on hold for 40 minutes to be told it's a weather issue. I said the skies are clear. How come the crew that was supposed to turn around originally in Mesa after refueling couldn't immediately fly back like the staff here originally made it sound that they would. The customer service representative said that her screen says it's weather related and maybe there's bad weather between Provo and Mesa. I checked the Weather Channel.. there was no bad weather. This is all a bullshit scam. After demanding to talk to a manager about a refund, which they will not give me because the flight delay is a "weather issue" and not a "mechanical issue", I was told the "manager" is supposed to call me back within 24 hours. I'm not going to get a refund - the best I can get is credit, but I'm never going to fly on this lying shit airline again. Both flights were delayed 30 minutes for one and 5 hours for the other. Last year I was delayed 6 hours into a remote airport who no longer had renal car agents so I was stuck in the airport with little kids....ALL NIGHT. Joke. Then just last month my husband was delayed 4 hours on one of his two segments of air travel. No longer are these delays a coincidence. Its obviously the way they do business. Each time we received 0 advanced notice of delay so the time was spent at the airport. The philosophy of this airline is to fly old airplanes with as little upkeep as possible. Mechanics are far and few between. Plan on a ruined day of travel when using Allegiant. I don't care if I pay triple. I will never use this airline again. read more

My last flight, get this, the engine would not start. We were stranded at LAX for 6 hours and sent home to come back the next day. I was notified by email that there was an "alert" stating that they "changed my arrival/departure". When i called to ask them about it, i got the RUDEST customer service rep who talked over me the whole time and clearly didn't want to deal with the problem. I kid you not, she literally said "our system RANDOMLY sent the email and changes. In order to change your flight, you will have to pay the $178 cancellation fee, and re-book the flight for the original price." ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! You're going to charge me over $300 to correct a mistake that your system RANDOMLY made?! I wish i had the recording of the phone call because you can't make up how utterly stupid the whole situation was. We booked a flight from Mesa to Provo. On the way home, we were stuck in Provo for 2.5 hours in a tiny room with anxious mothers and babies, because security had gone home for the night, which meant that no one could come or go. Apparently, staff had screwed up paperwork - twice - however, we're still not sure what the holdup was all about. In addition, a young Eastern Indian boy, around middle-school age, was turned down and it sure looked like racial profiling to us. We overheard one of the reservationists say, "it just doesn't feel right," and the boy was escorted away. Shame on Allegiant. read more

This airline has horrible customer service they are rude on the phone there is a horrible long wait to get anyone on the phone at all this is after they cancel your flight due to pilot decision both airports and between the two perfectly clear no other flight delays or cancelations. They are refunding the money but other arrangements are costing more and they were not willing to make any attempt to find another flight for my husbands flight he is active duty and has to report back so he can not wait for another day. After an hour flight delay and $50 in extra charges for an "overweight bag", we were informed that there would be a mechanic driving from Salt Lake to look at our plane. After more delays, they informed us that the flight would have to be cancelled and we would have to wait till some time the next day for our flight. Cheap flights but for cheap service and delayed flights. We were supposed to depart at 8:30 am. They announced a delay of 1hr and 40 minutes because of a maintenance light. A tech had to drive from SLC to provo. Finally we start to board and about 30 passengers make it to the plane and then the scanner stops working at the gate. After 20 minutes they get it working. We finally pull away from the gate, sit for another 20 minutes for them to tell us another problem, unrelated has come up and they needed to troubleshoot. They tell us we have to pull back up to the gate and refuel. We probably won't be leaving for another 30 minutes as they are waiting for that tech to come back. I'm sitting on the plane now writing this review hoping this is the end of their problems. It would have been better to fly another airlines from SLC with layovers than to fly with Allegiant. I do not recommend flying Allegiant, I don't think they deserve anyone's business. If further problems arise I will be sure to write about it. read more

Absolutely terrible. Yes, they are cheap. I paid for checked bags, which inexpected. 40 bucks for one checked back. Most airlines have a max weight limit of 50 lbs before extra fees. Allegiant maximum is 40 lbs. My luggage was 43 lbs (golf clubs) and they told me to clear weight or pay an additional 50 bucks. That's more than the original cost and Ludacris. Luckily, I had 3 lbs of golf balls to remove. My flight was also 1.5 hours late and they told us after we had already boarded. Then they gave us 3 different excuses as to why the delay. The Provo airport is terrible as well. It took 45 minutes to get through security and only 20 people were ahead of me. They really need to get their agendas straight. I'll pay an extra 50 bucks to fly more established airlines from now on. read more

I've flown with Allegiant 3 times over the last two years when a daughter-law called the airlines to my attention. First was a round trip from Las Vegas into Los Angeles During the holiday season in December. The only inconvenience in that was that I Drove from Utah to Mesquite Nevada and left my car with a sister for a couple weeks. That was a great flight and on time, but on the way back I was flying the same flight with friends and both of us were notified by telephone and text that it was Delayed 6 hours. The timely notification caught us just in time to save a premature trip from Long Beach into LA too early. They announced a free voucher for the next flight due to the delay. The rest of the trip was great. I learned early to save money by booking with my debit card rather than credit, and to pay for my luggage while reserving the flight for a big savings over checking it when I flew as with other airlines. The next flight was a one way from Provo To Santa Maria, California, where most of my children live. That airport was never easy, being a small airport. (Always had to book a two-stop flight or pay a lot more To arrive directly there, and then always two stops. So it was a thrill to go direct From Provo (very near my home) directly into Santa Maria (which WAS home for Many years). Provo was a very friendly airport and I always had good service there. I took a one-way flight from Santa Maria to Provo a few weeks later and it was ideal. (I have learned since that due to weather there are times when the plane cannot Get into Santa Maria, but that never happened to me). Of course, a delay may require flying two days later which won't work if you have a deadline & no flexibility. Last year, I booked my two 18-year-old grandchildren to fly in for a visit after Christmas and then home again 10 days later. It was a round trip from Los Angeles To Provo. No delays and they reported a good experience. So I am pleased for a good opportunity to save a lot of money through a small airlines. read more

Awful experience. First of all, it was not clear whether our flight was at 9:50 or 10:50 as the app and our email had conflicting information. No one at the airport was able to clear this up for us. Then, when we boarded the air and lights kept going out. The engine kept failing. It was miserably hot. My best friend was with me. She has cancer and in order to keep her from having children right now, her birth control has put her through Menopause. She has crazy heat flashes and was absolutely miserable. When we asked the flight attendants what was going on, instead of saying they were trying to figure it out or answering politely they snapped at everyone that asked. After many failed attempts to get the plane going, we were asked to get off. The flight was delayed by 3 hours. We were all crowded in a tiny airport with no room to walk around. In an ​attempt to make amends they provided us with soda and a bag of chips. This is something we would have gotten at a regular airline anyway. The plane had an unusual amount of turbulence. Honestly, a lot of us were still unsure about the stability of the plane. My best friend and I were trying to have a relaxing,stress-free​e and affordable vacation. I regretted not waiting 1 more day to book my flight, because southwest was having a much better deal for 2 days and would have been a much more pleasant experience. The way back was not bad, although we still were unsure about the boarding time. Allegiant definitely doesn't communicate well. Due to traffic, we were panicked about whether or not we were going to miss our flight. I would be surprised if we ever fly this airline again. The redeeming factor, and the reason the airline gets a better rating is because of the return crew. The flight was smoother, the staff was friendlier and when I left my iPad on the plane they quickly retrieved it. read more

This Airline is an absolute joke. The flight attendants were rude and ill-mannered with no edict whatsoever. There is absolutely no customer service. Attendants at ticketing and check-in are unbelievably condescending and not customer service oriented at all. I was so taken back at how awful the service with this airline was and how unprofessional the flight attendants were... I had burned myself., "second-degree burn" on my right hand. I asked for a first aid kit but was told in blow it off kind of manner, that they just simply didn't have anything to treat burns... OH how nice... no first aid kit?... That's comforting... And what on earth is up with all these fees.. Three to Four bucks for a coke?... Really you are that cheap? You are really, going to charge me for a coke? And you don't brew coffee?.. I have been on airlines in the middle of nowhere in the middle-east and Asia where there has been infinitely more service and decorum on the part of flight staff than can ever be found in this entire airline. At least there I can get a cup of tea or coffee... You can't even get a cup of coffee on these flights, but you charge me three to four bucks for a freaking can of coke. Dear Alliegant, you are awful. I wrote a review included in a survey that you had emailed me weeks ago and no one ever got back to me. I demand a refund on all those extra charges you charged me on and at the very least an apology for your depolorable service. I will tell everyone I meet my friends and family to avoid you like the plague. Any chance I get on reviewing you I will be sure at the drop of a hat to leave you with the WORST reviews humanely possible. It is my sincere prayer that your little backward shody airline with your podunk ill-mannered staff go out of business. read more

This was the worst flight experience I have ever had, and I heard similar sentiments from EVERYONE around me both in the airport and on the flight itself. What started as a 15 minute "minor mechanical delay" turned into a 7+ hour delay. The airline was NOT communicative or open about how long the wait would really be. I had to ask an airport attendant when we would be leaving, and she half assed a vague answer. The app did not update for about an hour after I asked her, so the rest of the passengers were not filled in on the answer she gave me. It definitely looked like the airline was trying to save face but we as passengers would have much better appreciated knowing that it would be a huge delay up front so that we could arrange for that. My husband and I were at the airport for 9 hours before finally getting onto the plane. The airline only gave us $8 meal vouchers to "make up for" the delay, which hardly covers half a meal at the expensive airport. On the flight itself, it took longer than usual to get in the air. The flight attendant bumped into my husband, spilling his drink all over him, and didn't say a word. They threw away one of our fellow passenger's insulin supply when she asked them to freeze it for her (it had lost its freeze during the 7 hour delay). Another passenger's luggage was damaged, somehow completely having lost all four of the wheels on it when he picked it up from baggage claim. I doubt that we will ever fly with Allegiant again. This was not a good representation of what we think our business should go to. read more

I must say I had a very smooth experience when flying with Allegiant for the first time. Yes I have read many different bad experiences but I can only speak for my experience. My return flight to Provo was one of the better flights I been on mainly because I enjoyed the flight over the grand canyon, southern Utah and flying in so close to Utah lake and landing at Provo airport, which is so small, and this was quite interesting to me. If you have the mindset to save money then chances are your experience will be much better. So having this attitude I only traveled with my free carry on that fit under the seat. I was going on a week vacation so normally I would be traveling with three times as much stuff. But I learned to be smart about what I was packing and ended up using the hotel's washer and dryer half way through my trip. Which was something I normally would not do but did not mind it. I actually enjoyed traveling light so much. It was easier to pack, so much easier at the airport, the hotel experience was smooth, unpacking and finding what I was looking for was easy, and after a nice vacation it was nice just to have a few things to put away. And hey, if you forgot or need a necessity a store is probably in the vicinity. Do this and Then ask yourself how much you saved on those baggage fees on that round trip flight. I also liked printing off my own boarding pass as an incentive to save money which in turn made things easier at the airport for everyone. I really hope they open up more flights out of Provo as things grow here. I know there will be some growing pains but I will be back to fly allegiant again. If you are trying to decide if you want to try Allegiant I would suggest going to visit Provo airport and make sure you are comfortable and familiar with the airport, the airline and the process before you book your flight. read more
