Allegretti's Bakery made my wedding cake and it was beautiful! It was almost as if they plucked the idea straight from my head. The sunflowers decor was amazing. The design was flawless, intimate, rustic, and it tasted like heaven. I cried when I saw the cake, I cried the day after when I saw the picture of the cake. Extremely disappointed with my order. First I ordered a large amount of paczki's for our office and a cupcake. To start the cherry paczki was nasty...we had to throw it away and the cupcake was hard and the buttercream tasted like old freezer. I saw all the wonderful reviews and even someone in my neighborhood recommended this bakery when I asked where I could find good chocolate eclairs. The eclair's filling was a watered down tasting custard, the chocolate frosting was so-so and the worst part was the dough had an old grease taste. I also bought some apple slices and found that the crust had that same old-grease, almost rancid taste to it. Had eclairs, they were alright, maybe because I bought them in the evening, the dough was good, so was the filling I thought it could be a little lighter and more vanilla flavor, kinda tasted more like pudding. I will be honest and say I never bought a baked item here. My reason for going here is to buy pizza dough. For a ridiculously low price of $1.35 you can get a dough ball for what would make a small deep dish or medium thin-crust pizza. I go home, add sauce, cheese and toppings and the end result is better than any frozen pizza and costs a lot less than ordering one. Very upset with the cake I ordered and received this past weekend. I felt like the layers were extremely thin and that all I was eating was whip cream! It was suppose to be a gel infused MLP and in the end it was a very dull looking print with the outline in some more whip cream! Not even straight very crooked! The words could of been in something other then pink. I asked for chocolate inside which ended up being more whip cream with no chocolate flavor to it. I love this place. It has been around for ever and is always consistantly good and delicious.Love the mini cannoli,I don't feel so guilty eating 1 or 2. This was my first and last trip to Allegretti's. The cake I got for my 30th birthday was very, very disappointing. The inside of my cake was supposed to have a fruit filling and whipped cream. It had both of those things, IN MASSIVE AMOUNTS. There was so little actual cake on the inside of this monstrosity, it literally looked like they baked one single layer cake, split it into three layers and just heaped on the filling. It was a mess. The following day, the amount of filling had completely saturated what cake was in there and there was no longer any texture. It was all just mush. To top that off, the butter cream frosting on the outside was just not good. Canned frosting would have been an improvement. I ate a sliver of the cake, my husband did the same, the rest went right into the garbage can on day 2. What a waste of money!!! read more

Shocked to see Sweetex (saccharine) As the third ingredient in the chocolate covered pound cake. Why add an artificial sweetener to your cake? The cake was not "sugar free" and sugar was still added, but further down on the ingredient list. Unnecessary and disappointing for bakery to use this ingredient. read more

Great bakery! Let me start off by saying I am not a cake or "sweets" person, but their stuff is totally yum. The Mirage banquets are contracted with this place so we just went along with their "wedding package" and were pleasantly suprised. I posted a pic of the cake and it tasted as good as it looks - even better. It was a beautiful cake! My pic doesn't look as good as the profesional pics, but it gives you the idea. A little over a year later we ordered my son's christening cake and it was also delish and beautiful! I am now trying to find a bakery closer to home for my God daughters christening and and can't find a place that makes me happy. I'm looking at taste, design, and costs and I think overall making the trip into Norrige is going to be a must! So far I've been quoted on the pricey side everywhere around here for the same thing, for about $50 dollars less. I'm looking for a cross cake that feeds 60 w. strawberry filling. We have been buying from Allegretti's for years and I don't know why I never thought to write a review. I tell people I meet all the time but I wanted to share with the whole neighborhood. We just went to the Park Ridge farmers market this weekend and they have a table there. I tried the lemon Italian ice and it was to die for! So Sunday I went to the bakery to pick up more lemon and watermelon flavor. The watermelon is so good and screams summer in a cup! You have to try it! A few of my friends will keep Allegretti's in business - all by their lonesome if necessary. If not for their boastful testaments of baked goods beyond belief; also for their on-a-first-name basis with this locale. Feeling I missed the party and all future gatherings if I wasn't in on this bakery love, I went myself, buying a whole cornucopia of sweet treats. The chocolate donuts are good, much better than Dunkin good or Let Them Eat Cake good, but not anywhere near the deliciousness and decadence or calorie worth of a Stan's or a Donut Vault, for instance. But, they are good, and I would not turn down anything chocolate from here. Same for the cookie assortment. The real butter in the cookies is definitely apparent, but otherwise, they're just a solid good cookie, but one I can probably live without if I happened to be near this strip mall in Norridge. Since there's not a lot of nearby bakeries, and their baked goods (and breads) are decidedly good, and very reasonably priced, I give them 3 stars for being A-ok. If not near the world's best Bittersweet, or my wallet is getting trim, and I want something sweet, I would definitely stop in at Allegretti's for a donut or some cookies. read more

The donuts are very good but the last couple of times the donuts were not cooked fully. There was uncooked batter in the center. I wanted to give them another try because people rave about it and my sister and I went there today and there happened to be a bee IN the display on top of a danish and when my sister told one of the workers she was dismissive and rude. As she walked away she said,"oh well, that's what happens and we can't help that". She didn't even try to get rid of the bee that was on top of the danish inside of the display. This establishment has been here for years! Coming here on St. Joseph's Day/ San Giuseppe to order nothing else but our traditional Italian St. Joseph's Day sweet, zeppole. The demand is so high today, that there are over 15 people waiting in this small bakery for the zeppole to finish being made. Selling so many, they can't keep up.
