Check engine light was on... I had read about Allen Automotive on Next Door, so I decided to try them out when our Hyundai's check engine light came on about a year ago. They are professional, knowledgeable and always fair in their pricing. This visit, my Murano "check engine light" was on. This time I made an appointment, I recommend it. My car was checked out the morning of my appointment, I was called with diagnosis, approved and my car was ready in 2 hours at a fair cost. The issue could have been a lot bigger, but these guys never do unnecessary repairs. I was told after repair, to drive a few hundred miles, if a potential additional problem occurred, THEN they would perform a second repair, but they didn't anticipate anymore issues! I have been using Allen Automotive for over 5 years now. Last week I had a Mercedes S550 that was over heating. They took it and I was waiting for the call. They call.. tell me that they could not find it the problem and looked for error codes, low coolant, bad fan etc etc. They even had ir run for a while while up on the rack to see if there was a leak or something. NOTHING... they think the only issue might be a fan connection and told me to just watch it. I was impressed with their thoroughness and asked what do I owe you for Diagnostic time etc... Texas heat happens, and of course my window stops rolling down in the middle of the summer. I've heard tips from both neighbors and colleagues that Allen Automotive Repair is pretty dependable and affordable. I figured I'd give them a try at my Navigator. They are pretty busy, but when I called the lady on the phone was able to get me an appointment within two days. The day comes for me to drop my car off, the lady at the front desk is very friendly and professional. I explained the problem and she explained thier process and how long it would take to diagnose/repair my issue. I received a call in around three hours with an explanation of what was wrong and what it would cost to fix it. I approved the cost and I received a call around 4PM my car was done. I picked up my car and paid and was greeted professionally and enthusiastically just as I was the first time. Two days later my window had a problem. I'd roll the window up and it would go back down automatically. When my work schedule finally allowed, I called and let them know I had a problem. She was very apologetic and asked me to bring the car back. I brought the car back and it was fixed the same day to perfection. Mistakes happen, so that doesn't' impact my rating. It's frustrating dealing with car problems, it's also frustrating dealing with a problem that comes back, but whats the most frustrating is dealing with someone that doesn't care about my product. It was a pleasure coming to Allen Automotive because I feel like they really do care about my outcome. I will always support places that run like this place does. Bad experience: These folks have a great reputation so I gave them a try. Took in Volkswagen Jetta for major ac repair, oil change et.fluid flush replace lightbulb in one of the lights and overall health check. Brought the car home and the opposite headlight and same side day light were out on the car that worked when we went in. They originally told me they had to take the whole front end apart to replace the ac compressor.. I assumed the lights were not hooked back up or a wire was loose or something. I went to pick the car up. They wanted to charge full labor and parts for the fix for something that was wasn't working when i brought it home. the guy "Billy" proceeded to become agitated and loud and asked me what i wanted to do. He said it wasn't their fault. I said it was not broken when i brought it in. I suggested I pay parts and he absorb the labor. He said no. Then 2 other guys started jumping on me and saying it wasn't their fault. Ganging up on me really. Ultimately Billy didn't accept my offer to pay parts. He wadded the receipt up and told me never to come back. WOW.. good reputation or not.. Not a good person.. read more

We have been trusting the family at Allen Automotive Repair for years. Highly recommend, worth waiting for an appointment if they are booked up. Years ago they fixed the A/C in my 1500HD for $400 after Craig's Car Care in Lucas tried to get another $1,800 to re-repair my A/C in my truck (3 years after I already spent about the same with them for repairing my A/C). Since then we take all of our cars there, their prices are reasonable and they are extremely trustworthy. One time I dropped my vehicle off to get my new pads and rotors on my brakes. They called me and said that my brakes were fine, no maintenance was necessary. They charged me for the oil/filter change and a nominal charge for putting my truck up on a lift, pulling all the wheels off and inspecting each of the brake systems. They will tell me what repairs are a priority and which ones can wait. Sometimes they'll tell me what repairs I might be able to do myself. They have no problem if I supply the parts to save money. The mechanic always calls me and tells me what he has found before he does the repair. He has always answered any question I have had and patiently explains anything I want to know about. (THIS IS BIG BONUS POINTS WITH ME!) 5. The ladies at the front desk are always helpful and pleasant. This isn't some fancy-waiting-room-with-coffee-and-a-t.v. place that tries to get you to do extra repairs. This is a real, down-to-earth, automotive repair garage. THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE IVE EVER BEEN TO IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! Completely incompetent and disorganized business. These people do not run a business, they steal. I took in my 95 Corsica to run a few checks for my cooling system as it was acting a little weird and also my throttle body cable which was also acting a bit weird. I took my car in to get a CHECK, not to be messed with or change parts, but CHECKED. Anyway, I went in, dropped the car off and came back the next morning to find my car had not even been fully checked (the guy left the car half done cause he wanted to go home early on a friday) annoyed, I asked the guys if my car was okay to drive and if anything had been done to it, they told me yes it was okay and he hadn't even looked at it for more than an hour. so I got my keys and left, thinking of never coming back to this dump anyway, driving out my gas pedal felt a little weird but I didnt think much of it. As i was driving down the road i felt my pedal sticking to the floor, long story short the pedal stuck ALL the way down and I could not stop. I could have been killed or caused a serious accident. I called the shop that day and told them what happened. the owner talked to me on the phone and didnt sound not one bit apologetic nor sounded like he even cared that I almost died. He ended up telling ME to PAY to tow it there and then he would DECIDE if it was his fault or not even though he CONFIRMED to me on the phone that he DID drive the car and it wasnt like that. I wasted my time, my car came in worse than it already was, I ended up paying for something that wasnt my fault and now Im out of a vehicle till I find a new mechanic... I was shocked at the price they charged for repairing my '73 240 Z. I had a "clunk" in the rear end and expect to pay at least several hundred dollars for the repair. Best kept secret in town. In the old downtown area and there are no signs advertising it. It is off a side street and hidden behind a storage facility so you wouldn't even know it was there. It is a ramshackle little place with a gravel parking lot but don't let that fool you. I take my car there for all it's needs. These are true mechanics and not just code readers. They only fix what is necessary and don't try to plus sell you on things you don't need. As a woman, I really appreciate that. And they are SO reasonably priced. Allen Automotive has such nice people and they treat you fairly. Suggestion for you is to tell them to not smoke in your car, unless you don't care. It will still smell like smoke. But, they have always treated me with respect and courtesy. I don't know if I had a really nice car if I would take it to them, but for most things on my cars they are great! They don't work weekends, and Brian G is correct that you need to be patient with them and be without your car for several days. They are a VERY busy shop. read more

Took my car in because check engine light came on. Was told nothing was wrong. 1 week later my car broke down on 75 N during rush hour because my battery and alternator went dead. Looked at my battery and it was obvious by just looking at it that it was on it's last leg. Would think that checking the battery would be a common diagnostic check for a check engine light. Called to voice my concern to only hear that it wasn't there fault and how would they know (2) cells on my battery were dead. Unfortunately this was the owners son who told me he didn't care that I never come back - very defensive and abrupt. What a wonderful mechanic! I was referred by a friend after getting an outrageous quote of $1800 by my Volvo dealership to replace my AC compressor. I called Allen Auto and explained the situation and they were very honest and gave me a couple estimates depending on what they found wrong. They got me in right away and were able to replace my compressor in a day. They charged me the lower estimate because I did not need the entire kit. I was so appreciative of their honesty and the price was less than half of what the dealership was trying to charge! I took my wife's van in for an engine light and was told that my rack and pinion needed to be changed and that would fix the probelm, Total charge of over $ 600.00. After a few days the engine light came back on so I called and made another appointment. This time and another 80.00 in labor and $5 in parts, they told me that a $1 hose need to be changed. Why did they not catch this the first time and why would I have to pay for labor all over again for the same problem. Buyer Beware! Allen Automotive caused damage to our car due to an improper repair. They refused to reimburse us the money we were out to get our car fixed due to their shoddy work. We had to take them to small claims court in order to get reimbursed. Allen Automotive has terrible customer service in a situation like this. They are a very unprofessional group of people. Timely with completion of repair. If they say "same day" or "3 days" are needed to complete. Then it is same day or 3 days. Their diagnosis of problem and repair is "spot on". Prices are very good. Two family members told me that the power steering pump on my 74 year old Mother's 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe was bad and that was causing the noise we heard. I called the dealership and they quoted me $600.00. I went to the internet and researched the local shops. Allen Automotive had great reviews with the only concern being they are sometimes so busy you need an appointment. We call them last week and they gave us a quote of $400.00 and we booked an appointment for 8 AM a few days later. We took it in today and they attempted to call us to let us know it was only the idler pulley but Mother was sleeping and missed the call. When I called them back, they had already fixed the car by 9:30 AM because it was only $138.30 total.
