Sadly it has become hard to find a good barber in Manhattan, save for a few diamonds in the rough theres a lot of places that just focus on quantity over quality now a days. @ Allen St i could tell all of these barbers are really on their game and have an eye for detail and don't mind spending the extra time to make you happy. I had a great experience with Haj, she was amazing, i am not sure how someone else could of said anything negative about her work. I went there cause a friend recommended to me , I was very excited that I finally found a cool place to get a hair cut , I am a very clean person and to be honest these guys seemed like they never dust around their stations and also noticed they didn't clean their machines after they finished with a client too often , all the stations were very dirty with dust and dirt from days , they talk extremely loud amounts themselves and use very salty language, my hair cut took too long and my barber was running late ,I was on time but he make wait for 40 minutes and the hair cut was another 50 minutes so I was there for at least 2 Hours , I thought it was so unprofessional cause I had an appointment,then a barber in the first chair near the door who was arguing with another barber got me uncomfortable, Their tone of voice was loud and their demeanor was a bit aggressive to my taste , I didn't think that was profesional also , I tried to explain my hair cut to my barber but he didn't seem to understand to much English that was Troubling to me overall the place is more or less not great , I don't think i will be back any time soon, and my hair cut was really not good at all , all my barber did was talking shit the all time with every body while cutting my hair , I couldn't believe he charge me $25 and this dude with the hat with a terrible English got the nerves to ask for a tip at the end , I was so piss off read more

After some terrible mishaps and poor scheduling issues at my old barbershop, I was in desperate need of a new stylist. Enter Allen St Cut & Shave. Coming highly recommended by some of my freshest friends, I was truly excited to check this spot out. I'm so very happy to say that my experience was beyond perfect. The location itself is cozy, modern, and clean. The vibe is both very laid back and friendly. The staff speak Spanish and English and as such were very accommodating to all clientele. I never once felt uncomfortable or out of place, which can often happen when you first step foot into a new barbershop. It was really nice to see there were women working as barbers as well! I got to my appointment a bit early but was promptly seated when it was my time to go. My barber, Carlos, did a phenomenal job. I showed him some photos of what I wanted done and he replicated it exactly. It was actually one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time; the compliments would not stop flowing that week! At a lot of barbershops, barbers will waste tremendous amounts of time gossiping either with you or the other barbers, making what should be a 30 minute haircut last an hour. That's not the case here! I'm not a huge talker so it was nice to have the haircut experience itself be 95% haircut and only 5% small conversation. I was out in time to make my afternoon meeting with 0 delay. At $25 for cut or $30 for a cut + shave, you're paying a little bit extra for a guaranteed quality experience that will last. It is more than worth it. As any guy knows, a barber is an essential member of your team. They keep you fresh, clean, and professional when you need it most. A True local Gem! Walk down the century old steps and into an the old school barbershop, the attention to detail decor isn't even the half of it. Here the crew's, a family of 5 barbers, goal is simply to make you feel like family. I get a cut religiously every two weeks,with Carlos. However, all the barbers are friendly, have a wealth of experience and will give you the cut you want with the upmost professionalism. An appointment is recommended, however they will work with you, be flexible as the cut and shave is worth your time. If you're curious as to how a trendy New York barbershop might be portrayed on The Simpsons, check this place out. But to me, it's not worth it. $25 + tip for a basic back & sides trim seems a little egregious. I walked a couple blocks next time and got a trim for $5 instead, and later a quality, fully styled look for $18 on Canal St. There are some holes in the wall further south of Delancey full of barbers who are just as skilled as these guys. You won't find them on Yelp, but they're the refreshing polar opposite of the tryhard clichés of LES. You might have to show a picture to them to help explain what you want, but they'll nail it with precision, efficiency and a more humble vibe than Allen St. If you want a cool brand with a glass of wine and a dream pop cover of Like a Virgin playing in the background, then maybe this place is for you. No questions if I use or want any product on. If you kind of guy who doesn't want bald cut only by clipper, don't go there. So far the worst barber experience in NY. When we were done I was like" so can you do the hairstyle"? This barber shop gives the best shaves. My husband and I live in California and we will go out of our way to get him a shave here when we're in town. The barber Ray totally butchered my beard and mustache and gave me a halfway done part then charged me $30. I can't speak for the other barbers but I will not risk going back. I recently moved to the Lower East Side and was looking for a barber close by. I decided to try Allen St Cut & Shave based on the high reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately my experience was very different: I gave the barber specific instructions on how to cut my hair (to accommodate my hair type and head shape) and he immediately gave me a generic, low-quality haircut. I could not be more disappointed. I only gave 2 stars because I didn't pay for the cut otherwise, it would be a hard 1. I guess I will have to make the trek up to my old barber for future haircuts--it is not worth "trying new barbershops"--too risky. Would not recommend this shop to anyone--unless you want a generic-ass haircut. read more

Can't say enough about. Allen Cut & Shave I found them when I moved to the LES two years ago and have been coming ever since. I've always been nervous when having to try a new barber, but these guys have felt like home from day 1. Carlos R is my guy. I've tried a few different things with my hair in the last two years (higher fade, lower fade, skin fade, long up top, shirt up top, beard, no beard) and Carlos has not only been receptive to my ideas, but also been helpful in his suggestions. On top of that, the cuts are always great! The attention to detail is unmatched. While Carlos is my go-to, I've had to come in on one of his off days because I was getting ready to go on a trip or had a big work presentation the next day. All of the other guys who have given me a cut here have been extremely accommodating and, most importantly, given me a great cut! You truly can't go wrong with anyone here. read more
