To be clear, the high tops are the booths you also see in pictures (we were confused ahead of walking in). It's definitely elevated bar food with a bit of pizzaz!! Our server was very pleasant and made us feel welcome right away. We went on a Sunday evening, and the back dining area was almost empty. If you're looking for a livelier vibe, the front is probably the better choice, but the back works great for something more quiet and intimate. I was craving the bolognese, but they were out that night, so we ordered the candied nut and beet salad and the pepperoni pizza with honey. We wanted to try something different and someone told us that this place was pretty good and they were definitely right and I'm so happy we tried them out. The place itself is absolutely adorable. It reminds me of like an old fixed up farmhouse and they have a really cute little patio in the back, which is where we sat to enjoy our dinner. I didn't find the staff to be overly friendly. I will say that it was probably the only negative . Not that they were rude or anything like that, but they definitely didn't try to connect with their customers, but that's OK because the food was absolutely amazing.! We started with the mind blowing ricotta dip which had honey I believe pistachios and strawberries and they served it with this fresh sourdough bread that was so light and just amazing. I'm telling you if you go to this place get that appetizer I've never had anything like that we cleared that bowl and there was quite a bit of dip in there. We also had the watermelon special, which was delicious as well. It had different spices on it and it was served over cheese and it just was a very good dish for the summer. Both appetizers were mind blowing.! Hubby had the risotto. He said it was incredible. I made the unfortunate mistake of waiting until the last minute to book a Valentine's Day reservation, and Charlie's Place was one of the few spots with availability for their prix fixe menu. In hindsight, I wish I had kept looking. We started with two cocktails, which were just okay--not terrible, but nothing memorable. For appetizers, we ordered a Caesar salad and the Korean BBQ ribs, both of which were underwhelming. Not inedible, just not good, so we only ate about half. The second course to share was pecorino truffle fries, which, surprisingly, ended up being the best thing we ate all night. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. For our entrées, my fiancée ordered the wagyu bolognese, and I opted for the filet mignon with a $10 upcharge. I asked for my filet medium, but it arrived somewhere between medium-well and well-done. The waiter noticed I wasn't thrilled and kindly offered to replace it. The second attempt? More well-done. The third attempt--the chef's final try--was laughably bad. The waiter even crossed his fingers as we checked it, only for us to find yet another overcooked steak, this time with the texture of a leather shoe. He was genuinely shocked. Meanwhile, my fiancée's bolognese tasted like pure lemon--no other flavors, just an overwhelming citrus tang. The server was confused, saying there shouldn't be lemon in the dish, but after checking with the kitchen, he confirmed that the ricotta had lemon. Whatever the case, it was completely inedible--like one of those sour candy challenges. At this point, I asked for the manager, who, to his credit, was extremely apologetic and immediately comped our entire meal. He also offered to do something else for us, but at that point, I had no appetite left. I just asked for dessert, which ended up being a hazelnut cake that was decent, though by then, I was more than ready to leave. Charlie's Place has potential--it's a nice space, and the service was actually solid. The staff even brought us complimentary champagne, which was a nice touch. But the food? Just bad. That's the only reason this is a two-star review instead of one. I'd love to give them another shot in the future, but they have some serious issues to fix first. read more

My husband and I decided to stop in with no reservation Friday evening, round 6pm. It was oretty buzy, but we were able to grab 2 seats at the bar. There are a lot of people behind the bar, so we were served quickly. The drinks are delicious and they have a great variety of cocktails on the menu. The food came out in a timely manner and everything was delicious. The portions are great and the price. I only saw the bar and the bathrooms on this trip. I was told they have a large dining room in the back. The bathrooms are gender neutral and very clean. Came here Friday night, the 5th and what an awesome experience. I am local to the area and have not tried the place since the new owners and name change took place about a year ago. Man have I been missing out. We got there Friday night at 5:15 and were told that all of the tables had reservations, but we could sit at the bar and get full service there. I was with my parents who were in town for the holiday season. I ordered a local IPA and the bao buns filled with pork belly. Both were delicious. The pork belly buns had a fantastic sticky glaze to it, and the buns were steamed perfectly. Our server, did not get her name, was attentive and knowledgeable. My mom ordered the drunk and love pizza and a specialty cocktail for the holidays with bourbon and a gingerbread simple syrup. It did come out to 25 a person, and everyone got an app / small plate / pizza and a drink which I think is average and fair for the area. We came here for lunch on a Friday and had a great experience! The staff is very engaging and attentive. The drinks were creative and delicious and the food we got was phenomenal! I highly recommend the calamari and truffle fries. The fries have both truffle oil and shaved black truffle on top. A great value for an expensive ingredient. I was delightfully surprised by the food and ambiance here. The front room is a cozy neighborhood bar with lots of tv's. Towards the back is a more formal dining room. The night we went there was a live musician. It looks like there will be outdoor seating as the weather improves. The food is all over the map in origin but the theme I would say is elevated comfort food. The standouts for me were the ginormous mozzarella sticks and the chicken Milanese. I would get that as a meal again. The drink menu was also interesting. I believe the space used to be Amsters prospect tavern, which unfortunately we never had the chance to try despite being in the area for many years. The reason for this was the charge on the refill of the soda. When you charge $28 for a cheesesteak and $15 for a bar pretzel, might we suggest you don't nickel and dime by charging for a refill of soda, it's not a good look. My wife's first time visiting (with her sister) and she felt Charlie's Place had a cool vibe. She had a Cosmo Royale ($16) which she enjoyed and a sliced steak sandwich ($28). She felt cheated as there was very little steak on the sandwich. She did not register a complaint with the server. Had I been there, I would have but she is not confrontational. Point is... she shouldn't have to ask for a fair portion of steak on a $28 steak sandwich. I will not be going and she does not plan to return. read more

Everything was good- food, drinks and service... here's my only complaint- the booth at the bar area needs a foot rest! Seats are too high. Very uncomfortable seating. So even if everything else is great, but you're physically uncomfortable the whole time- that's a problem. You have to be 6' tall or above for your feet to hit the floor while sitting in that booth. The back dining room doesn't look anymore comfortable either. However at least there aren't 8 TVs (like there are in the tiny bar area). With the high prices on the menu and a 17$ cocktail - I'm looking forward to the one day there's an upgrade in furniture decor! read more

The person next to me had an empty water bottle on the bar. After a few minutes it had what looked like Guinness in it. It wasn't. They were chewing tobacco and spitting into the empty water bottle.
