I won't be heading back to Peppercorn's anytime soon, GUARANTEED! My wife and I came in and were warmly greeted by the bartender and our drink order was taken promptly and made perfectly...but that's unfortunately where the compliments end for both the restaurant and the bartender. We ordered Nachos for an appetizer and they came out cold. Cheese on the bottom was melted, whatever crap they put on top was ice cold and not melted. Not sure if this is the way they make them ordinarily, but I've never eaten nachos with cheese that was not melted ... we sent it back to be reheated and got a face from the bartender about it... didn't bode well in her favor but more to come on her shortly. Next both of us got The Godfather sandwich with added chopped bacon... it came out undercooked in some parts of the meat hut after the face for sending back the nachos, I sucked it up and just ate the edible parts... in addition to this though, they don't serve it closed. It is not an open faced sandwich, but served open-faced...not terrible, but just weird to me. Probably to prevent room on the plate for more fries to be added. So now the meal has ended, we ask for the check and notice a couple of unusual charges... I had 2 Belvedere and 7up w a lime and my wife had two Spicy Margaritas. We were each charged $25.00 for our 2 drinks...no issues...where it gets nutty is the additional separate charges listed vaguely at $7 and $4. Now the complaint isn't about cost per se, but rather the sneakiness and seemingly dishonest approach by the bartender that was unnecessary. My wife questioned the charges and we were told some nonsense about having to up charge because it was a larger glass for a margarita and it doesn'tcome in a smaller glass...WTF? First off, she didn't ask for a larger glass. Next, why isn't there just a charge for a margarita at one price? If you only serve it in one size, why do you need an up charge on a taller glass? That was the explanation for the 7.00 charge, 3.50 for each drink she had. The 4.00 charge I couldnt even make sense out of ... she explained that it was because margarita's have more than 1 liquor so she had to add an additional liquor fee. What in the holy hell is going on with the pricing for this drink???? So now as far as I can understand we have a $12.50 FLAT fee for a margarita according to its initial charge on the check. Then 3.50 extra for each drink because it is served ONLY in a pint glass... and a $2.00 per drink for extra liquor because more than 1 type of alcohol was put in the Margarita... so now a $12.50 Margarita on the menu becomes an 18 dollar upsell when no one asked for anything larger or additional, other than the way it should be poured according to the drink menu... it was sneaky, underhanded and it made us feel like we were targeted as unsuspecting patrons who wouldn't be back again and the upcharge didn't matter. Well she was right and wrong... wrong that it doesn't matter and was not wrong to do, but she was right that we won't be back again read more

The appetizer was delicious. Then came the meal... His at least five minutes before mine. mine had ingredients in it, including mushrooms, which I am to, despite the fact that it had never been in this recipe before, was it listed on the menu. When I inquired about it on the menu, she said that it was, despite the fact that on the above, I could see it was not. They offered to remake it for me, but not take it off of our bill. They blamed it on the corporate office. We tried to order dessert as it was my birthday and only mine came out. Not my husband's. I'm incredibly disappointed. We will never go back. Cozy bar and indoor dining area with amazing appetizers and cocktails! I recommend the potato skins, French onion soup, and the sliders. All were exceptional! This is our family's top local restaurant. We have been going there for years and love it. I recommend the special, whatever it is, it is always wonderful. I also recommend the soup of the day. One of my favorite things each visit is usually the soup of the day. My wife generally gets a salad, of which they have a number of great choices. I really like the Taco Salad. The kids generally get a burger or pasta, but they are very accommodating with kid meals. Aside from the good food, however, this is also a great place for the family. There are always kids there and the atmosphere is always so festive. They decorate for the upcoming holiday and/or season and generally cater to a family type atmosphere. There is a separate bar which seems focused on varied sports with games playing on the multiple screens. They also have outdoor seating on the patio and deck. We like to eat on the deck on nice days. What we love most, is the staff. Everyone is so friendly and treat the customers like family. We have walked away from every visit feeling welcomed and well fed. read more

Stopped in this evening for a quick bite. place was dead so we thought it would be simple and quick. Ha ha, joke was on us. The staff was completely uninterested in actually serving us. Instead of checking on us, ever, the entire staff was just sitting around the bar, laughing, being very loud and completely disconnected to working. My husband ordered the 'special of the day' chicken soup and it was served cold. There was only one other table yet we could not get anyones attention to order, get refills or get our check. I asked our server who was the manager to which she replied no one. I said no one manages here? She said no, just the owner. I said ok, who's the owner? Melissa she replied. I asked when is in and she said whenever; she usually hangs out at the bar. Then she told me if I complained, the owner really doesn't care so don't even bother. The entire staff was laughing, joking really chucking it up loudly at the bar with absolutely no care or concern for the customer. So Melissa, if you even see these reviews, the way your restaurant/bar is being currently 'managed' is abysmal. Maybe contact Jon Tapper for some help. Train your staff. The current environment of your staff literally yelling to each other from another room is so unprofessional as well as their lack of awareness. This is a reflection on you Melissa. If this is how you want it, I'll say good luck. What you are offering to the local community is a disgrace. Makes me wonder what that kitchen looks like. I am sure you could do better and as a business owner you should want to. Your staff needs to grow up and act like they care. Or maybe because you don't they think it's ok? We used to come here with some regularity, but found the food to be just ok the last couple times we went. They haven't updated the menu in years. Some things are good like the ahi tuna appetizer and they have good burgers. It's just a little hit or miss. They did update the interior a few years ago which was much needed. Service is very good. What a disappointment- our lunch was inedible and the service just about nonexistent. Overly large portions of greasy chicken and piled so high only someone with the mouth of a horse could grapple with it. The place is also shabby and uncomfortable to be in. One of our reliable fallbacks which has been around for a century (or more?). The food is always good but often understaffed so rush hour service can be an issue. They have a few very reliable sandwiches, with The Godfather (Steak), The Gobbler (Turkey dinner), and the CLT (Chicken/Lettuce/Tomato) at the top of the list. Their standard fries are always crisp, fresh, and tasty yet many like their other 3 types (sweet potato, waffle). Their Ahi Tuna Salad or Ahi Tuna app is always fresh and amazing (for a non-sushi joint!). And their specials are always very good. We have dined here several times over the past few years. Food is good for burgers, sandwiches but nothing special, service friendly. There are always families with kids (staff brings crayons and coloring book pages, good kids menu) and we wanted to get a gift certificate for our son who has 3 boys. On this visit, the service was awful: We arrived before 6pm because we had plans for 8pm. Ordered soup and salad after waiting about 15 minutes for a waitress. Another wait and soup arrived. After 30 minutes staff member assured us salad was coming right out. 10 minutes later, another assurance. We asked for it to be boxed, waited, and left about 15 later - definitely without gift certificate. Antsy unfed kids (not toddlers) were loud and running amok, and adding to the atmosphere was a 10-11 year old next to us with persistent hacking cough not covering her mouth. We ended up here as it was convenient for for everyone at the time. Make sure you pay attention where to turn in to the restaurant since this just comes up out of no where in the residential section of the town. With that being said. Ample parking with a slightly retro feel on the interior. Bar looked comfortable with regulars gathered up in the afternoon. Bathroom was clean and the seating was just a regular seat. The French onion soup was good. Slightly on the saltier side which I like. I wished the cheese was more well done with some crunch to it hit to his own for that preference. Seared tuna was nothing too special but the sear was good. The harder texture of the outside with the softer raw inside complimented it very well. Understand that this is an appetizer at a pub setting and not a sushi restaurant. With that being said, it was good. Wings were scorched well on the outside and juicy on the inside. Slightly on the larger side but kind of wished I had it with some type of sauce. It's my mistake for going dry. Little sprinkle of salt and made the flavor come alive a little better. I can imagine this being very good with the sauce seasoning. Beef tip was good. I can't say that it was anything special but was tender and cooked to the instruction of "medium" on point. Overall, waitress was nice and the atmosphere was ok. The food tasted as expected and had a good time. I'd like to go back one day and give some other food a try. read more

Went to Peppercorns for dinner last night. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad. It was a generous portion with great flavored buffalo wings on top of the salad. If you enjoy a good blue cheese, you would be happy with this. My friend ordered the turkey dinner. He was very happy and it had a very sizable portion. All in all a good meal. Our waitress seemed a little flighty, but got the job done. They have a new receipt system, which was giving her a hard time, but she figured it out. Would certainly go to again. read more

The Greek salad that my husband & I shared as an appetizer was large & very good, plenty of veggies & pepperoncini & olives & a nice chunk of feta. We don't eat beef burgers, but the ahi tuna burgers we ordered instead were excellent! Um, unfortunately, so were the fries, lol! One of our friends had soup, which he liked, and a pasta dish, I don't recall which one, and they were also pleased with their choices. What happened to this restaurant? Once a great place to eat and grab a drink. Not sure if it's a new chef. Food is expensive and tastes awful. Bar tender's wife was breastfeeding at the bar. A little awkward for the few guy's trying to have a cocktail. If you order a drink on the rocks they charge you for the ice. Response from the owner which is total BS according from an owner at another local bar. Knowing that they are overcharging is not exactly enjoyable experience. The typical scotch pour is approximately 1.5oz 2oz. Most establishments require their bartenders to use jiggers to meticulously pour and make sure the drink does not exceed that. Obviously anyone who has been to peppercorns we do not use a jigger nor is our pours typical. I do apologize for the confusion with the rocks. No we do not charge for ice. What we do is pour more when it is on the rocks so our guests can enjoy the flavors of their scotch, bourbon, or whiskey cold without losing much of the flavor profile due to ice watering it down. We charge $1 for that experiencing, not double or 1.5x. We do have some wine selection. I apologize for not having as many as other restaurants. We also pour more than a 5oz pour. Our standard house by the glass starts at $8. Most house pours in Bergen county start at $12. Their wine menu by the glass range from as low as $8 and as high as $75. We try to give our guests as much variety as we can. I apologize for any confusion and I hope this explains some of the comments. I would love to see y'all again. Local favorite in Park Ridge, also popular lunch spot for the office complex nearby. It's been around for awhile. It's a pretty old house looking atmosphere. Service is great and portions are humongous. Each plate is enough to feed 2 people. And their menu is reasonably priced which is even better. They don't hold back on any ingredients. However, the taste or flavor of their food, I'm not so sure. They usually look like they are made in a haste. It actually has a pretty vibrant bar scene on weekends with live music. For the price and portions, I could see why it's popular among the locals. It's more like diner food with a bar. read more

I have been to Peppercorn's during the week for lunch and the service and food has always been fantastic but every time I have gone on a Sunday for dinner it has been poor. Yesterday was probably the worst. Our server was very inattentive and under skilled. My friend ordered a cup of tea, when served there was no lemon or milk/creamer. While we waited for her to come back to take our order and ask for milk, the tea was getting cold. When she returned with creamers, they were not on a plate but scooped in her hand and eight of them dropped on the table. My friend ordered a cheese burger, the waitress did not asked how she would like it cooked and I ordered the Godfather and also, was not asked how I would like it cooked. The food was brought to the table, not by the waitress, mine was served on the rare side and my friend's burger was served without the cheese. We waited and waited for the waitress to return to our table so my friend could have cheese for her burger. The waitress was at the corner of the bar talking with another co-worker and judging by the conversation, one of the owners. I tried and tried to get her attention but that took more than five mins and now my friend was sharing my meal and lost her appetite for her meal and sent it back. The waitress was now trying to convince my friend that her meal will be ok and her cheese burger will be hot again once it is put back on the grill. There were maybe four other occupied tables at this time and for this type of service, inexcusable. read more

I went here on a Friday evening with another couple for dinner after trying this place earlier in the summer. For some context, I've never eaten here before because when I went here with my wife during the summer our waitress never checked in with us after giving us menus for the 30 minutes we stayed before leaving. Recently, we were invited out for dinner here with another couple. Our waitress seemed flustered and forgot things easily. I had to go to the bar to get waters for the table. My Moscow Mule cocktail tasted ok but tasted like it had zero alcohol. We also got an order of "jumbo" buffalo/chili wings. The wings were tough and the BBQ sauce tasted like your typical 99c BBQ sauce bottle. I tried the French Dip sandwich and was simply stunned at what I received. The roll was your typical soft hero roll from a bag, stuffed with COLD roast beef that was raw in the middle. It was completely inedible and honestly disgusting to expect customers to chew through a cold sandwich with raw beef. I brought this up with our waitress and she said others have complained about the same thing in the couple of days before this. Wouldn't that be a hint to the kitchen? Ended up ordering a BBQ burger which took forever to come out (~30 minutes). The only reason this place gets two stars is because the burger was actually decent, and the bun was fresh. At the end, the waitress still included the returned French Dip sandwich after saying it would be removed. Had to get it corrected and wasted more time. Not worth visiting this dreary restaurant with poor service and food. Better off with a burger and fries from Wendy's. read more

I want to preface this review by saying I'm generally not a person to leave a bad review for a restaurant. If you look at my yelp history I like to leave positive reviews for places we genuinely enjoy. Every business can have an off day, so I'm not quick to judge. However, the overall problem I have with Peppercorns is their inconsistent service. Case in point, I went this evening and we were sat and it took our server 10 minutes to approach our table and take our order. Then she brought our drinks and we literally never saw her again...EVER!!! Our food was brought out by someone else. She never checked in or asked if we wanted more drinks, which we did want, never cleared our plates, or ask if we wanted dessert, she just never came back ever, and we eventually had to grab the hostess when she was seating someone to ask for our check since we hadn't had our waitress come back, and the hostess brought us the check. As we were walking out we saw our waitress so it's not like she wasn't there. It was such a disappointing experience. I was hesitant to write this because I used to really love Peppercorns as a local place to go to with decent food. But aside from this evening, we've had SEVERAL other recent trips here where the service was not great. That is why I'm sharing this feedback. I know there is a labor shortage, but we frequent other local places too, and have not had bad service like we have had on a regular basis here. It's almost as if management is ok with spotty, lackluster service. I just don't know how else to explain it being a recurring problem with some of their wait staff. I do see some really hardworking staff here, but unfortunately we've just not had the luck of them serving us. I just don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon, which is a shame because it's local and the food is good, but feeling like a business doesn't value customer service is a real turnoff. So my family & I went here for dinner. We were seated right away ... That was the best part of the dinner. The waitress took our drink order ... We had to ask 3 times for water for my younger daughter. We got the menu ... Mostly bar food, no worries. We ordered appetizers ... Spinach & artichoke dip, some wings ... Those never came. We got our drinks ... A half our later we got another round. Still no food. Then, our main course came out (almost a hour after ordering) ... I had orders off the Daily Specials menu ... Roast beef on garlic bread with melted mozzarella. Sounded good ... The roast beef had ice crystals in the middle of the sandwich. There was next to no mozzarella on it ... The "garlic" bread was a roll from the local supermarket that was burnt on the outside. My daughter ordered a chicken Caesar salad. The salad was drowned in dressing with a pair of chicken strips shredded into it with a half a pound of croutons. She asked for the dressing on the side by the way ... Service was inattentive. The food was no better than highway drive through but the prices were almost NYC prices. By the way, for some reason, there is no cell service in the restaurant & the Wi-Fi is dodgy at best. At least the beer was cold. Pass on this spot. For the money, you could get far better ... or if that's the food & service you want, go to a fast food restaurant. Giving this place a star because I can't give less. We were still charged a 20% gratuity because we had 7 in our party ... So I guess that's the way it works there. Bad service, less than mediocre food, high prices ... Not going back there. By the way ... the food looked liked it got unwrapped from the local supermarket & heated up in the back ... Its been awhile since I'd been in here... this place screams "my owner lacks any pride they may have left for this restaurant". The food wasn't anything to rave about- I ordered a chicken caesar salad with chicken and onion. Lettuce was browning. And they forgot the onions, which I kindly asked our server to retrieve. At the booth I was sitting at (which was probably chewed up by a dog at some point) I could hear screaming in the kitchen, and while it didn't last long, it was disruptive. This place is generally OK. It's really a local bar with some food, which is fine. We didn't come at a very busy time (around 6 pm on a Friday) and didn't wait long to be seated. It was also quieter than expected which was a nice surprise. We ordered the cheese quesadillas for an app, and they were OK--just a bunch of onions, tomatoes and cheese and the actual tortilla was slightly hard. I ordered the portabella burger and it had a lot of stuff on it like pesto, big pieces of onion, mozzarrella tomato...portions were very big. It came with fries. They don't make everything on the premises like the veggie burger which is just frozen Morningstar burgers. They also don't make the pies or desserts. For what it is, regular bar food it is good enough. The decor is nothing special either. My wife and I had dinner and ordered simple, I had ordered a French Dip which came near refrigerator cold meat and a roll that wasn't even toasted. My wife ordered a salad which was supposed to come with Tahini Dressing but was given balsamic instead, we mentioned both to the waitress who was sweet but didn't get management involved because the entire dinner was a wreck.
