On arrival, the office was clean and the staff, very respectful. Dr. Charlot was extremely kind. When she did her intake she sat and listened without sitting in front of a screen. We had her complete attention and that was refreshing. She remembered everything we told her! And it was alot of information. Before sending my prescriptions in, we discussed what my insurance may or may not cover and less expensive alternatives. Before I begin discussing my qualms, I'd like to say first that I have had no issues with the staff. They've all been kind and personable. My biggest qualm is that I have only had two actual appointments at this establishment, yet they have somehow rescheduled me 4 separate times. I began this process in early August, and have yet to receive any allergy shots. I have never ever had a medical practice reschedule me so frequently in such a short time span. My second issue with this establishment, is that I have still not received any allergy shots. What they don't tell you in the beginning is that you will first have an appointment for an allergy test, and than another appointment to "make sure asthma is controlled," and then after that an appointment at their other office with the people who actually do the shots. After those three appointments, then you can start allergy shots. I had an appointment for the third appointment, but guess what? They had to cancel and have reached out to reschedule. Lastly, I called with a request to speak with an office manager about this days ago, and have yet to hear back. I have had severe allergies and asthma all my life. I have had allergy shots before. I'm from upstate NY, and in my prior experience I was able to begin allergy shots shortly after having my allergy test. The only waiting time was for the serums to be made and received by the allergist. Why must there be 3 appointments before one can begin allergy shots, especially when the office cannot commit to any appointments whatsoever? It feels like a money grab and is a huge waste of time. I want to start this review by clarifying that my problems with this practice are not the fault of any of the nurses or the receptionist or even with the outsourced scheduling calls, it's with the way that the practice is managed and with the dishonest billing practices that seem to be a common problem among patients. Allergy shots would always be administered ~40 min after the appt was scheduled for. Also I have never once seen Dr. Charlot even though I continue to be billed for MD visits and all documentation was set to look like I was meeting with her. I have only seen the NP. This would be fine if the office was upfront about that and correctly billed me for a NP visit. Not sure why they do this. It's clear that they simply try to maximize the number of times you have to go to the clinic. During the allergy shot process, after several rounds of testing they made me come back for a "allergy shot consultation" even though I had already agreed to go through with the therapy with the NP at the office. This "consultation" consisted of a nurse reading a one page document to me and was then billed as an MD visit. Very very frustrating. read more

I visited December 2020 and was indifferent on my visit and the experience I received but didn't feel the need to write a review at that time. Fast forward to Spring 2022 when I received a bill for almost $1,000 a year and a half after my visit, with no explanation of these fees and why I am receiving so long after. I actively attempted to call many times and kept getting the run around from all the employees, bounce backs, "so and so will get back to you to sort out the insurance coding," etc. Took me two months to finally get it (somewhat) sorted out, two months of trying to pay THEM something I don't agree with. Signed a contract to pay an equal amount to be auto-charged the first business day of each month for six months. These employees can't even handle that and I've been being charged randomly, different amounts, different days, etc. The service I received in my appointments was not even worth nearly any of the stress of dealing with them after the fact. Please look elsewhere to a more legitimate business practice. They may be "nice" but take your money and are not transparent at allllll. Half the time you don't even see the actual doctor. read more

I've had quite a few bad experiences with this office, mainly in terms of how they handle admin. It takes them weeks and weeks and multiple emails/phone calls to respond to simple requests. I've had to restart allergy shots two different times because they took so long in responding that I stopped being at maintenance level. They also have a strange practice of assigning different shots to each allergy, which means that I have to get four painful shots each time (I've never experienced this at other offices). I'm not posting this lightly--I honestly just don't want other patients to go through this. read more

First off, I just wanted to start by saying some of the reviews I read reviewing the cleanliness issues of the waiting room are DEAD ON... Opening the door I actually felt like I could potentially get tetinus waiting in here... but I gave this place the benefit of a doubt and here's what happened: So I verified before coming that they do in fact take my health insurance. They gave me the whole spiel of "yea you just need to pay your co-pay etc" and got me set up with a time. A few days before my visit I get this really REALLY SHADY email about how I need to confirm my apt and how all confirmed apts have a $100 cancellation fee if you don't show up or don't follow through with the apt for whatever reason. I'm like "that's fine I really REALLY need to treat this upper-respiratory disease I have, so I'll certainly be going through with this. Whatever the charge is, I'll work it out with them, just like I have with every other In-Network specialist I've ever seen in my entire life..." So I call a cab and leave work to get to this place which is NOWHERE NEAR my home or where I work, which is super inconvenient. It's fine though, right? I need the treatment and they had a time slot available fairly soon. So I get there, have my general disgust about the state of the waiting room and ALMOST walk out... but then remind myself I promised myself I would follow through with this... I get to the counter and give my In-Network Metal Care plan (it's a silver plan with Fidelis with only a $1200 deductable... a fairly decent and expensive plan)... and the first thing I notice is how blatantly unprofessional the receptionist is... Her press-on nails were so long she could barely type or use a touch-screen properly but... once again... I'm in this... I'm going through with this... ... after a couple seconds she callucely, with not a SINGLE HINT of empathy, compassion or emotion, says very matter-of-factly, "ALRIGHT so you need to pay the full $1200 deductable up front so I'll just get that from you and..." I'm like "ww... WAIT wait I don't just have $1200 to drop right here right now..." it was madness. NOONE with a metal level plan is likely to have that... it's not like a thing people that have plans like this just.... HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS on reserve for instances like this... ... it then started to make sense... the $100 cancellation fee email... deliberately training your scheduling associates to not inform ppl with metal-level plans that you have to pay up front IN FULL for your deductable before they'll treat you... ... the incredibly rude secretary lady made it pretty clear this was NOT the first time this had happened, stating "blah blah metal plans are terrible and this should be common knowledge, we used to bill people but we never got paid so yea you gotta pay in full... it's not the scheduling associate's job to inform people of this before they show up" ... except that IT IS... and here's why... ... if this is something that has happened COUNTLESS times before and it's generally known that ppl will show up and be asked to drop THOUSANDS with a certain plan... the person setting up apts should QUALIFY patients so they don't waste their time and have to pay a $100 cancellation fee... As a part of my OWN job I have to qualify EVERY customer that places an online order just making sure they know and are getting what they expect... So... conclusively... this is proof... OBVIOUS proof... they they do this on purpose..... someone with a PHD... who has a doctrate... set this up like this... and noone that smart is too dumb or out of the loop to NOT know this is happening... So basically this place is set up to NOT Inform you that you have to pay your full deductable up front for certain plans... and they COUNT ON PPL TO CANCEL TO "collect those cancellation fees." I.... never knew I'd run into a doctor's office that relies on cancellation fees to get an entire segment of their profit... IT'S MADNESS THAT THIS IS EVEN LEGAL... So yea... got there to be treated for my chronic illness with IN NETWORK INSURANCE... was treated like garbage by the secretary and basically has the following conversation (in a nutshell): "Alright that'll be $1200 up front." "...it was really hard for me getting here and it's going to be really hard for me to get home... and I don't have $1200 to give you right now..." "Oh you don't have it? That's cool that's just be a $100 cancellation fee then..." I had to walk out, without treatment after spending time and CAB FARE to get there, since my work is not on any remote train line that goes to this office... ... this office is the closest thing to a borderline insurance scam I've ever run into and I've been to plenty of doctors and NEVER been treated like that. Reprehensible experience. The litany of online forms is ridiculous - and this office makes you call your insurance company with billing codes to check coverage, which you are NOT supposed to do. They should have a billing department that handles this but I guess they want to outsource that too. I show up 10 minutes before my appointment time, and low and behold - the office was inexplicably closed. No call, no request to reschedule, and then they had the audacity to threaten me with no-show charges when I waited outside with an unhappy one year old for over 45 minutes. Their number is outsourced to a service that has zero clue what's actually happening inside the office. And in case you're wondering whether I got the date or time wrong, I most certainly did not given the ridiculous flooding of my inbox of reminders two days before, the day before, and the morning of. read more

Called to make sure my insurance would cover and there would be no additional charges. Wnent in for a 30 min exam. Did a prick test that showed nothing. Doctor basically shrugged shoulders and said I dunno go see a derma. Charged my insurance $1000 and if that wasn't good enough charged me $250 more. It took me over four and a half weeks to get ahold of anyone for refills via email, or via their third party call line. Although Dr. Charlot is nice, this office gets back to you many days or weeks later, and doesn't send multiple refills at a time when you ask them to in what feels like an effort to make patients come in as frequently as the office can get them to, but for help with a chronic condition which doesn't need to be seen more than once annually. At one point a staff person on the phone said their only availability happened to be the same day my medication ran out, so to receive a refill I absolutely had to come in that day-another staff person on a separate call though admitted they had multiple sooner openings. They are only open 4 days a week and have a very unhelpful call line run by a third party service which isn't able to actually help with much if anything, and feels more like they're there to give patients the sense that they've been heard, though I was still helped too many days later. And in late June/early July, a peak time for allergy and asthma symptoms, they had an auto-reply email saying they may not get back to you for up 2-7 days. I heard back four and a half weeks later after I had already had to find a new allergist for my refills. read more

I highly recommend this doctor and office. After moving into an old building and contemplating a new pet, I brought my whole family to have a barrage of tests to mitigate any indoor allergies. The office called ahead of time and made sure that we had all of our information to minimize paperwork on the day of the appointment. Dr. Charlot was very thorough, she listened to all of our concerns, thoughtfully explained how the tests would work and had a wonderful bedside manner with my 4 and 6 year old. She even had my son giggling through the minor discomfort. She explained what each reaction meant and could possible indicate down the road. Dr. Charlot is a very sincere and compassionate doctor. Coming in to her office, I was not sure what was the underlying cause behind a few allergy symptoms and Dr. Charlot spent time with me, explaining what theories could be behind what I was experiencing. She came up with a treatment plan and as of now, I have not had any hives! The office itself took many precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all patients during this pandemic. There were kiosks for individuals to check in and it scans all necessary identification so you can immediately meet with Dr. Charlot right after. The appointment took no longer than forty minutes. Overall, Dr. Charlot is a very caring individual and I am glad I made the drive from Queens to Brooklyn to see her! She genuinely wants to help you and it is apparent in her demeanor. Update: Dr. Charlot reached out to me and scheduled me for a new appointment immediately. Apparently that office is unclean due to the owner not adhering to the lease agreement. Additionally I have to reiterate that the doctor I originally saw was great, it was the location and lack of communication that were issues. Original: Avoid this place!!!! Im writing this about the Ridgewood location at 311 St Nicholas Ave. I had to wait a month to have my first appointment with Dr. Katayva (probably the wrong spelling), which is understandable because of covid. The examination room was extremely dirty and dusty and had random items stored there. The dust made me have an allergic reaction while waiting to see the doctor. The medical instruments were pretty old too. The doctor prescribed an inhaler for my asthma and immunotherapy. The prescription took three days to be sent to my pharmacy so I had to deal with two more asthma attacks without an inhaler. They never took care of the immunotherapy request. I made a follow up appointment for the 3rd. On the 3rd I show up and the office is closed. No-one answered the phone. Then I see they emailed me the day before and switched my appointment to the 7th. There was no place to confirm and no call to notify me. I show up on the 7th and the office is closed due to an emergency, which obviously could not have been foreseen. I called the number posted and they said I should have received an email and call. My appointment time was 10:30am. The email was sent to me at 10:30 am, exactly at my appointment time when I had already scheduled my day around it. Extremely frustrated about the lack of organization and respect for patients. I'm still debating whether to go back. It was hard to get a hold of the office to confirm a change of appointment time, I ended up just walking over because the automated phone options would not connect with a receptionist. Unlike other allergists that I called, they proceeded to do all the skin and intradermal tests even though I had been taking antihistamines for weeks - I don't know if this is good practice and other specialists were just overly cautious. Like somebody else mentioned, I never saw the doctor, just the NP. They forgot to phone in the prescription for the EpiPen they require for follow-up shot appointments and they gave conflicting information on when I could schedule my first round of shots. Overall the offices seem really uncoordinated and it's hard to communicate with them. Also, massive heads-up, I'm still trying to figure out what they billed my insurance since it ended up being thousands of dollars and I'm unclear whether that was for 6 mos. of serum, or if it was just exorbitantly expensive for one visit that included 4 shots. Make sure you get an estimate before agreeing to treatment, preferably in writing, and double-check what your insurance will cover even if they are in-network. read more

I will start by saying that I have suffered from severe asthma and environmental allergies. I also have food allergies. I am 38 and I've been like this since I was 2 years old. I am a smart patient. I read, I know my body and tend to be very compliant with my treatment. Also, I need very specific treatment because what I do for a living require that my lungs stay in top form. I chose this practice because all the flashy reviews and degrees from the staff. It is not the closest location for me, but I thought I chose a good doctor. I didn't. The practice changed a lot my doctor without prior communication. I was seen multiple times by a PA instead of the specialist my insurance was paying for. The office is a total mess! Uncomfortable, crowded... I was given allergy shots next to a half eaten sandwich once. The wait times are idiotic. The doctors never listened to my complains about the treatment. I was constantly sick because I the treatment was not effective. I was never given an asthma control plan. I am with an excellent team of an ent and allergist now. They keep my lungs and vocal cords healthy. They are super heroes in my book.Thanks to them my lungs and vocal cords can do their job. As advice to my fellow allergic and asthmatic people: Don't go to this practice. They are too crowded and do not give good service. Always remember that you need a working relationship with your doctor if you are managing a chronic illness. You need their help but they need your business. Don't forget who is the boss. read more

Was seen by the NP instead of a dr much to my surprise. I thought the dr would come in after the skin prick testing, but she didn't. The front desk should be upfront when scheduling with a NP instead of a specialist yet charging the same. It seems like a planned bait and switch. While Dr. Charlot is amazing and her knowledge is excellent, this office is not. The wait time to see the doctor is very long... you can spend over an hour just waiting to be seen. Also, wait times on the telephone to speak with someone are also long. I was very disappointed at not receiving a telephone call back when I wanted to speak with a Doctor regarding my child's medical conditions, which were severe. It is imperative that offices not overbook patients and waste their time with scheduled appointments, especially when people have lives and other obligations. It is also imperative that every patient is treated as though they are a priority. Having a concerned parent wait hours for a telephone call that never comes is not professional. I expected better and am very disappointed. I am happy to now have found an office that provides the level of service that is to be expected. read more

Interestingly, Dr. Charlot describes herself in LinkedIn as the Owner of the above named medical practice. Given that she's the only doctor there, what else would you think? Doesn't "owner" kind of cheapen the idea of a medical practice? What do I know? I didn't go to Harvard Medical School. She did. Then she did her residency at NYU. This is of course highly impressive. Her office is right on Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza. And forgive me, women readers, but on top of all this, the woman is HOT. If you're going in to be checked for allergies or asthma, that sort of thing, expect two appointments. It takes that long for them to prick about 70 needles into your arms that check you for specific allergies. It's no big deal, unless you think it is, in which case it's a nightmare. Now here's the weird thing. On my first visit, I saw Dr. Charlot, and she gave me a great deal of time. Now and then she cut me off if my answers were running long. I found her very pleasant to look at and speak with. But she is not a holistic doctor, in that she doesn't want to understand your life as a whole--she wants to get the spectrum of your symptoms only. She didn't do the arm-sticking. A young woman in blue scrubs did that part. She was maybe a nurse, or a tech. After waiting 20 minutes, I had no reactions, so Dr. Delectable gave me some samples and told me to take them and come back in a week. When I did, I was the only patient in the office during the whole 45 minutes or so I was there. I was seen by a physician's assistant. She was up on my case. I asked her where the gorgeous and brilliant doctor was, and she told me she was "in her office doing whatever". The PA stuck me this time, went and gave the doctor the results, came out with a prescription and instructions and wished me well. She was very pleasant. As I got up to leave I could see that the entire office was empty, and that the door to Dr. Charlot's office was open. The PA walked into her office as I was putting my coat on, and the door literally slammed shut before I passed by. Now here's my point. Yeah, I thought this doctor is a babe. But I never let her see it. I was appropriately pleasant with her. So the deal was that on my second visit, I, or any other patient, wasn't going to get to say hello or get any slightest bit of bedside manner from Dr. Charlot. Because she's the Owner. You know? I've never heard of such a thing, and it stinks. So, medically, I guess this is a good allergy office. But whether a patient can talk to the doctor when they want to, well, that's open to question. I am so grateful to have been treated by Dr, Cascya Charlot and her staff. They provide some of the best care available. I've had allergies for as long as I can remember--but always manageable with over-the-counters until last week when I woke up with eyes so red, eye drops couldn't relieve them and I looked perpetually stoned. I made the appointment (easy) and met with Dr. Charlot a few days later. She was thorough, sincere, knowledgeable, and when I reacted poorly to a skin prick test, both she and her staff were kind and caring (a pillow, tv, a fan, Zyrtec, hydrocortisone cream). She was also able to prescribe me drops that cleared my eyes and offer tips on an additional allergy I never knew I had. I would refer this office to ANYONE suffering from allergies. read more

All I have to say is she is truly amazing. I thought there was no curing my allergies. I am virtually allergic to everything out there. They get two stars for convenience and wait time, both of which were great. However, in terms of care, they get no stars. I called and asked to get tested for a bee allergy and made an appointment. When I got there, the doctor asked me some questions, during which I mentioned that I had had some seasonal allergies the past few years, but wasn't too concerned about them. Next thing I know, they do a full panel of environmental allergy tests and hand me paperwork on getting shots to prevent my seasonal allergies. Then they tell me that in fact they can't do a bee allergy test there because they don't do blood tests on the premises! So after all of that, they couldn't even do what I had come for! They sent me to a LabCorp to get the blood test and told me to call them for the results the following week. I got the blood test that day and the person who drew my blood told me the results would be ready in a few days. This was a Monday. On Thursday I called the doctor and was told someone would check on my results and call me back. Hadn't heard from them by mid-week the following week and so I called back. Got the same response - someone will contact you. Three weeks after getting my test, I still do not have the results. I called today and the woman who answered the phone said yes, the results were in but she couldn't give them to me. Yes, as the other reviewers noted, I agree: their front office was chaotic and disorganized. The waiting room was a complete mess. A woman almost attacked me in the waiting area, perhaps cantankerous from the wait. But most importantly I want to let others know about the lack of professional advice that my wife and I were given. After the test was confirmed, we were put into a (broom closet?) room with an assistant who showed us how to use an epi pen. We all three awkwardly stood there without any elbow room to speak of, while she hastily showed us how to use the epi pen, giggling and chewing gum. Fun! In light of all the information, recent studies, etc, you figure an Allergy Doctor would have a bit more to say than: "Yep, your kid has a nut and peanut allergy. Goodbye!" But this is all I got from Dr Erstein. More recently I called them to request an emergency refill of epi-pens and the office was closed. I left a message with their answering service who herself considered it urgent. It's been a week and they still haven't returned my phone call. i'll go elsewhere to my address allergy needs, doc (quack?). read more
