Waitresses are great but the food servings and the owner(also the cook) are not. The ingredients used are cheap and they don't serve a lot. Bacon is paper thin, home fries serving is around 10 small sized cuts of potato, bland food, cold french toast, the ketchup had gone bad. The quality has worsened and serving size decreased while they also have bumped up prices. Not many options on menu either. Such a bad experience. The cook is rude too. He always stares with a mean look. I always order cheese with my scrambled eggs at any diner I go to, but the cook here refuses to do scrambled and instead makes me an omelet because he says it will get the grill dirty otherwise. read more

Nice little quaint place for a breakfast meal. The lady was such a sweet heart. Before she came to the table, she had crayons and a coloring book in her hand for my daughter. You'll see a lot of reviews for Alley Cat Diner in the last two years because they're doing everything right. The staff is friendly and welcomes my family with each visit. When we're visiting, the place usually seems a half to a quarter full, so the three or four tables that can fit us and my child are usually open enough for us to sit. Alley Cat has a lot more character than I remember seeing the first time I passed by. The blinds are always shut because the diner faces the sun all day. Inside, you can find Steampunk decor--mechanical cats, mechanical things, cats, and a few other atmospheric gizmos. There are illustrated/graphic menus at the bar, but you can get a more legible and plain menu in print. The menu is small, so I always pick the same food. I'm never disappointed by the quality. I'm a vegetarian, so the lunch menu doesn't have much in terms of entrees. However, breakfast is served all day, so I can get a wonderful Breakfast Burrito until they close! They offer hots for the burrito, and the omelette inside is cooked perfectly. The tortilla the omelette is in is also fried (?) lightly, which makes it soft, warm, and just a touch crispy. They offer sour cream and salsa, so I feel that they do breakfast burritos justice. My spouse usually picks eggs and pancakes as well, which appeal as large, fluffy, and filling. Their cooking quality is so reliable that the same entree is as delicious as the first time you had it, I think. We're lost on options for our child. We usually have to pick an unappetizing item for their breakfast, since their lunch menu and french fries don't start until 10:30am. We'll likely try a variety in the future. Secondly, they only have one high chair, I think. What if another family visits with a toddler? Would we use the booster seat I think they have? Hm.. Did I say the staff was friendly? Alley Cat Diner. First off they're a small space and take full advantage of the space. They have just a few fables but a long long counter. The place holds probably 20-30 people? The decor is not overbearing and cat themed(go figure) but steampunk cats lots of gears and such. The specials board has a cool chalk cat. The menu is a speak handcrafted piece of art in its own right. I had the Reuben wife had the chicken sausage soup. Reuben's are a sandwich I've endeavored to like. I love all the ingredients separately seems obvious they'd be good together. And yet... this is the first Reuben I've thoroughly enjoyed and wish i could order a second one! My sweetie and I went out for a quick breakfast, and on a whim ended up here. What a fantastic place this is. 4 tables and a nice long cafe bar. The atmosphere is lively. Pricing is what I would expect for a perfect homemade breakfast, not expensive. We walked in and were greeted by a waitress and told us to sit anywhere we want, and she was very attentive, asked if we wanted coffee as soon as we sat. The coffee was fantastic, with endless refills. My sweetie ordered Corned Beef Hash and Bacon, crisp. I had Eggs Benedict. All was over the top, a fantastic experience, everything was perfect. Only been to Webster a few times and this was a bit of a hidden gem. The exterior of the building doesn't seem to be much and the windows are covered with cat wall coverings of sorts. Honestly, I dont like to think of cats when I am also thinking of my breakfast but I chalked it up to not really liking the name. It is like having a carpet cleaning business and having it named The Wet Dog Carpet Cleaner. However, what made this place unique for breakfast was the service. Breakfast was a simple eggs and toast combo with a cup of coffee. Coffee was served quickly and hot! The waitress was always stopping by to top off the coffee, ask if we needed anything, small chit chat and would then quickly walk away. Perfect. The food was served well and hot. Eggs were made to my order and the home fries were the kind we like, in chunks. Most of the seating is up at the bar and that was fine for an early morning breakfast. The decor is a mix of the aforementioned cats and then industrial....metal pipes and open ceiling. The bathrooms were very clean. I did hear some talk at the other end of the long counter, but we were far clear of it. Not sure if we would have been closer to the cook window, that we would have been brought into that talk. I decided to give alley CAT a chance after a BAD experience at Mama's kitchen. So I went to Mama'sKitchen. I ordered bacon egg and cheese on an English muffin with an extra slice of bacon and an OJ. She asked if I wanted a side of bacon and I said no just an extra slice on the sandwich. So she rings it up and it came to $15.45. I questioned it and asked for a refund. She explained the bill and that a side of bacon was $4.50 and I told her I didn't ask for a side. she started being rude to me telling me well thats how it goes, extra bacon comes on the side. What's sad is that a customer sitting at the counter even questioned her and why if I was asking for 1 slice of bacon that she would charge me for a whole side. Since the food wasn't cooked I asked her for a refund and she said they wouldn't do it, that "they are a small business and don't have the capability to do it" that is an absolute BS All "card swipe" machines have the ability to offer a refund. Alley Cat Diner is the best place in Webster, MA to get breakfast . The food is always fantastic. They do serve lunch, too. The few times I've had it there, it was fantastic as well. They serve the best potato salad that I've ever had in a restaurant. The waitresses are super friendly. Even when the place is full, the service is quick and efficient. When it's busy the cook/owner is all about the grill, but when it's not he'll poke his head through the durchreiche to chat with the patrons. This place does a fantastic job when it comes to breakfast and lunch basics. I don't live in Webda, but whenever I come to town to visit my parents I tend to stop here to pick up a quick breakfast or lunch for us. (I personally like to eat at home, but they have a nice ambiance here and a clean eating area for dining in, too.) For breakfast, I'm relatively obsessed with the Breakfast Burrito... Perfectly grilled and crispy on the outside with a nice scrambled mix of eggs, onions, jalapeños and your choice of meat on the inside - home fries serve as a nice complement. The Bacon, Egg and Cheese is also really well done, offered on Grilled Bulkie or Grilled English Muffin, and the French Toast (certainly not something I get all that often) is to die for! If you need a side, order some Corned Beef Hash (you won't regret it). The Burgers and Hot Dogs are also great as well. Every time I order a Burger, it's perfectly cooked to my liking, and though I'm not a fan of Cole Slaw, everyone seems to like Alley Cat's take on the cabbage salad. I used to love their spicy breakfast burrito but the cook screaming about his political opinions was not what I wanted to hear during breakfast. He was talking about "lazy democrats" while I sat there trying to talk to my dad and he kept trying to butt into the conversation. Usually I can ignore people like this but he would not stop making comments. My family does not talk about politics but after ignoring him for so long, my dad made a comment/joke about how I was a democrat and he shouldn't be too harsh but it didn't slow him down at all. As someone who works a full time job, as well as 2 part time jobs, I was being ridiculed because my political party was apparently comprised of lazy people and in his eyes, I fell into the category. Well, this "lazy democrat" will not be spending my hard earned money here ever again, that's for sure. Went in here with four friends to try the place out for the first time. 90% is counter seating, which would be weird for a large group, but there were a few small tables that we were able to push together. The place was pretty bare, the walls painted gray, just kind of droll. The server was friendly, but it seemed like she had very little experience. In taking our orders, she did not use any short-hand to write the order down, taking a minute or so on each person as she meticulously wrote down every letter of the whole order. Prices seemed normal - $6.50 for a hamburger - $3.50 for a cup of chowder - $4.00 for a couple eggs, home fries and toast. Average diner prices. Unfortunately, that was the only thing about the place that really felt like it was even 'average'. The food took a little longer than you would think, despite the place being not busy at all. I ordered the burger with fries, add grilled onions, and a side of coleslaw. My girlfriend ordered a cup of chowder and a side of potato salad. Another friend had a tuna wrap, another had a BLT, and the other had a breakfast burrito. They took several minutes longer to get my burger out than the rest of my friends' food. First thing I tried was the coleslaw, and it was downright the absolute worst coleslaw I have ever tasted in my life. If you've ever accidentally bought a piece of rotten produce at the grocery store and didn't discover it until you got home, you know the smell - that acidic, bubbling goop smell. Well, that's what the coleslaw tasted like. It tasted NOTHING like any type of coleslaw dressing I've ever had, and I have tried a lot of coleslaw in my life. I could not take more than that one single bite. It may have been rotten, or maybe the chef just has absolutely no idea what coleslaw is. Which is amazing, because standard with almost every lunch menu item is the choice of coleslaw or potato salad, so you must think they would be selling a lot of coleslaw and so should pick up on how horrible this stuff is. Just downright nasty. So I put the coleslaw aside and take a bite of a fry. The fry - bland. Fine, I think, at least the fries aren't disgusting, so I can eat those with some salt and ketchup - still, nothing impressive at all about the fries. Next I go for the burger. My friends are eager to see how I react - everyone loves burgers, and you can tell a lot about a joint by how well they make a burger. Well, as far as burgers go, this was one of the most underwhelming burgers of my life. Absolutely no flavor at all. It's like they took the cheapest bit of meat they could mush into a patty shape, did nothing else to it, popped it on the grill then slapped in on the bun. It tasted like nothing at all. Then the tomato tasted old and just gross - and I like tomatoes! So no idea what was going on with that. But whatever - I was hungry, and bland is better than bad, as I can just toss some salt and ketchup on the burger and fries and scarf the stuff down. But still, these things were like the absolute perfect example of what bland means - no flavor in any of that food at all. I think maybe the cook has no experience cooking at all? Has to be. Definitely can't have ever tasted their own cooking, because if they had, they couldn't miss how lousy it was. My girlfriend, who loves potato salad and gets it nearly everywhere we go that has it, couldn't eat more than a bite of hers. Again - they dish this stuff out with nearly every lunch menu item - they should be kicking butt with this stuff, but instead they are serving up some of the worst examples of it. You almost have to wonder if they're doing it on purpose. Like, maybe somebody had the idea to open a restaurant and serve the worst food possible and see what would happen, like as a bet? No idea! But anyway, I tried a bite of that potato salad, and though it wasn't disgusting, like the coleslaw, it also had absolutely no flavor at all. I don't even know how they can do that! Like, mayonnaise has flavor, but somehow they even took that flavor out and made it taste like absolutely nothing at all! Just lousy. She was okay with the chowder though, but this didn't seem like any fancy homemade chowder - it seemed EXACTLY like Progresso, which we can get for like $1.50 a can. Nothing impressive at all, but sure, at least it wasn't super-bland or super gross. My friend who got the tuna wrap had his stuff falling apart all over his plate. They apparently have no idea how to wrap up a wrap properly. And my other two friends also didn't seem like they were at all impressed with the food. So if you don't care about what the food tastes like at the restaurant you're eating at, then the above isn't really that important. If it's the service that lures you in - well, that actually was terrible too! No refills, no check-backs, didn't take the dirty dishes away! This diner has been open 2 months, and it is adorable only a few tables but quite a few stools. They are only open from 6 am to 2 pm breakfast and lunch. I had Eggs Benedict which were yummy but I love a little lemon in my sauce but few places add it' it came with home fries which were bland and I thought needed seasoning. My SO had an egg sandwich on an everything bagel which also came with home fries, he also enjoyed his meal!! We spoke with Cassandra who told us that anything can be added to home fries peppers, onions and seasoning and they have lemons for the sauce. We will be back for more read more
