In town visiting friends and we've heard so many great things about Alliance because it's always been their go-to bakery. They lived out of state for a bit and tried to replicate this specific cake from other bakeries, but it never came close. Needless to say, we had to try this one of a kind cake. Unfortunately, the last time they ordered it, somehow, it was missing one of the most important parts-the raspberry coulis! They reached out to the chef-owner and he graciously offered to make them a new cake the next time they came in. We popped into this cute bakery with a vintage flare this Sunday and the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The cake was gorgeous and tasted just as great! If you're a fan of chocolate, you're about to be in heaven! Chocolate cake, raspberry preserve and chocolate mousse filling, chocolate buttercream frosting, covered in chocolate ganache. One of our local favorites, this bakery has been in wicker Park for many decades, and continues to be a commanding presence in the pastry realm. Remarkably delicious cookies and cakes, Great coffee, and a chill laid back atmosphere. Very good with the kids too. Came here after Thai dinner. We wanted to end our evening with a sweet treat. For goodies we got cupcakes. We opted for strawberry cupcake and carrot cupcake. My cupcake was moist and not overly sweet. Sometimes I cannot handle how sweet the cream cheese frosting is but I ate all of my frosting. I came in here looking to ask some questions regarding a custom order for my husband's birthday. I knew it was a long shot since he wanted a pecan pie or pecan bars instead of a cake. The website does reference this being available if you search but it didn't seem like a standard item offered. So again, I wasn't going in with the highest hopes. What shocked me was walking in the storefront and have two clerks not great me or my husband and then proceed to just stare at us. When I mentioned I was researching in regard to a custom order, no one cares to try and reel in a sell by providing any customer service whatsoever. It was awkward and rude to just be stared at while looking over the pastry cases. We walked out, confused how this place stays open and never plan to return. To celebrate my husband's dirty 30, I decided to get him a custom Attack on Titan cake. The cake itself was delicious. I got the chocolate cake with pistachio filling and it wasn't overly sweet. Such a good combo!! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, when I was speaking to the staff regarding the cake, they were not helpful when it came to giving suggestions that fit into my budget. Imstead, I got responses about how out of budget certain ideas would be. When asking for suggestions, I was just told everything is expensive. Certain staff members were also rude to me on the phone and was not pleasant to work with. While I loved the gorg cake and the execution, the staff could definitely do better. My wife and I wanted to make a special cake for our son's first birthday, so we looked around for a bakery to help create our vision. We found some good inspirational photos online and came across Alliance Bakery & Cafe during our search. Initially, we were skeptical after reading the other reviews about some misfortunes with custom cakes. However, with only two weeks to request a cake before the event, we decided to try them. From the beginning, within 24 hours of requesting a custom cake, we were contacted via email by Austin, who was incredibly helpful and helped outline what was possible and very transparent about the pricing. They have plenty of options for cake flavoring and styles, and Austin was kind enough to create multiple quotes for all the different options. The cake was finalized about 1 week before the event, and we paid the deposit in person. The person at the front desk was very friendly and took our deposit and left notes about what we wanted to be done with our cake toppers. The bakery made every effort to make sure we were happy and to provide the exact cake we requested. The morning of the event, I picked up the cake and the few unused toppers. The person instructed me on the best place to keep the cake in the car for transport and how long it should be removed from the freezer/fridge before serving it to the guests. The cake turned out better than we could have expected and looked amazing for our son's first birthday - we couldn't have been happier. As for the taste, our bottom layer was almond cake with raspberry filling and it was delicious - all the guests loved it. The top layer was chocolate with mocha buttercream, which was also excellent. Overall, we would definitely recommend getting a custom cake from Alliance and will plan to use them again when we need another amazing cake! read more

For years we would travel from the South side to Alliance on Division just for their Almond Croissants! Just recently went yesterday and noticed the difference in the Almond Croissants immediately. Smaller and all of them mostly burnt/overcooked. I picked one out but as they pulled it out I noticed how burnt the tips of the croissant was and had to tell the clerk to put it back and give me another less burnt. This was a surprise for my wife on our 25th anniversary. She noticed the taste was different, smaller and how burnt it was and got bummed out. Amazing!!!! So delish! Cute little bakery with a lot of options. We had a coupon so we got the NY cheesecake and the Lola. The cheesecake was very good. Great presentation, creamy, with a great crust. The little bits of fruit were also great. $7.95 is a little steep but a larger portion than getting it at a restaurant. The Lola was recommended by the man behind the counter and I was very impressed. It's a mango/ passion fruit custard with a chocolate ganache on the bottom. Really a pretty good combo and super happy with that choice. Between the two that was really unique and would get again. We will keep them in mind for our bakery needs! Very underwhelming. Based on the photos on Yelp, I thought this would be a cute little bakery to work in for a bit but there is no seating inside. The bakery does have a list of cupcake flavors but there are listed on the side so you don't know which flavor is which by looking at the cupcakes. I decided to order a cinnamon roll and a cupcake. Please avoid ordering a King Cake from Alliance Bakery. We were hoping to order a King Cake from a local business rather than a bakery in NOLA, so we preordered it a few weeks ahead. We ate the cake the day of the scheduled pickup and it tasted like it was already few days old. It lacked any sort of filling or flavor except a few sporadic raisins (?). To be fair, there is no description of the cake on the preorder form. But the lack of filling/flavor, combined with the stale taste, made the cake unbelievably dry. I wish I could give Alliance Bakery a better rating. We had planned to order our wedding cake from them and were supposed to pick up our tasting kit last night. When we arrived at the Grand location, the associate could not find the order. After speaking on the phone with a manager, he told us that the order was placed - however, it wasn't made which was a "miss" on their part. He said we could come back the next day to pick it up at whatever time we wanted, so my fiance told him he would be by at 12pm. My fiance arrived around 1:30pm, and the tasting kit had not been made. He spoke with one of their wedding coordinators, and there was no explanation as to why our order was forgotten about twice other than "this has never happened before". Their team proceeded to put together the kit while he waited. It's clear that our business is not a priority to them - probably because we aren't ordering some big, extravagant cake.
