Let me share a story about my husband's 52nd birthday. He's been on a keto diet for the past four years, and he wanted a cake for his birthday. This was all decided last minute when he decided he wanted a party and a keto cake for his birthday, with the party just three days away. I went into panic mode, I invited our friends, picked the place, and made the invitations, but then came the challenge of finding a keto cake for my husband for his birthday. I googled keto bakeries, and a couple popped up, but one was Skinny Piggy. I called a couple of different places, and unfortunately, they couldn't make the cake so Skinny. Pig was my last resort, so I emailed them, explaining the situation, and they said they weren't sure if they could do it for me, plus they mentioned that their deliveries for the day were full. If anything, they could make the cake, but it would be for the following day after his party, which I couldn't do. I asked wherever they could do would really be appreciated. Not only did they go above and beyond, but they made sure the cake was delivered the day of the party and on time. Monica at Skinny Pig not only made sure the cake was made properly but also added it to the delivery list to be delivered to the restaurant just enough time for my husband's birthday. I can't express how amazing Skinny Piggy is and how they went above and beyond for this experience. If you need a cake, just make sure you order a couple of days before the birthday. I highly recommend them, especially since I'm not on keto, but I did try the cake, and it was absolutely amazing. It was the lemon berry cake , and the cake was delicious. My husband ate most of it by himself the next couple of days, but overall, it was an experience I will never forget. Venmo has been notified that Monica from this bakery has not registered her venmo account as a business even though she is asking for payments through venmo for her business. Her account is now being investigated. (Picture of venmo convo inserted below) They WILL NOT correct the order or refund any mistakes on their end, and they make a lot of mistakes. RED FLAG #1- They only accept venmo, cash app, or Zelle or credit cards over the phone. No proper business operates like this. RED FLAG #2- They will NOT give you a receipt. Monica said many times she will email me one but never did. RED FLAG #3- They will charge you $15 for delivery no matter what because customers "are not allowed in store" Spoke to Monica about making some gender reveal cupcakes. She's a snake so read carefully: I specially told her I want blue, pink, white buttercream rosettes for my cupcakes. She instead tried to charge me $14 extra for fondent frosting. I said no, I repeated many times I want pink, blue, white roses. I did not receive this, instead as you can see in the picture I got grocery market cupcakes with white frosting sloppy placed on top. You can even see the bare spots of frosting not being placed on right. She of course defended it by saying "that's how we do them, but we don't tell customers that". She LIED right away accusing me of wanting only white frosting. She defended every mistake stating I said something else and this is how the bakery does it. In addition, when I told her she messed up my delivery time, she had nothing to say. They came hours earlier than the delivery was expected. She will probably responded to this review with additional lies. Her lies continued to roll out of her mouth, it was like speaking to a misguided child. In the end she charged me $85 for a dozen cupcakes white dry cupcakes with sloppy white frosting on them. She continuously lied about details of our conversation and didn't take any responsibility for her mistakes. In the end she refused a compensation. She's running a SCAM bakery. Please go to the other wonderful bakeries chicago has to offer. Save yourself from being taken advantage of. I'm sincerely embarrassed for the operation they are running in this FRAUDULENT bakery. They also have a bunch of amazing pre-created concoctions if you need a bit of help in the choosing game. I only did pre-made things and loved every single option I tried. I don't even know where to begin. This is a group of Miracle workers! I called them with only 2 days to turn around a VEGAN & GLUTEN FREE custom Blueberry Cream birthday cake for me. Even though this wasn't an option on their menu, they were confident they could do this for me and in my extremely short time frame. I was skeptical. It was all just too easy. And at the right price! The value was great. I told Megan it was my birthday and that I wanted it to look 'pretty' but that I wouldn't have the first clue how. First: a word of advice for people like me who don't take the time to thoroughly read the fine print when making an order. When picking your order time, make note of the delivery window: it may take up to an hour (mine did, and was still a few minutes late). If it wasn't for them reaching out to me 10 minutes before my delivery was to arrive and asking if I was open to a significantly later delivery time I would've never had known my delivery was going to be more than an hour later than the planned delivery time. I let them know this wouldn't work, and they were still a few minutes outside of their one hour delivery window. This wouldn't have been a big deal if I had read that footnote, but I also had to cancel my plans in order to stay home to meet this delivery person. I assumed it would arrive in official delivery vehicle of some sort (something with refrigeration, and the capacity for larger orders) but turns out to be just some dude in a Honda or whatever. It may have been an Uber driver, I'm not sure. On top of being late, he forgot the candles I ordered with the cake. This was my first time ordering from this place. First impressions mean a lot. I was wanting to try something different from our local bakery, Roesers. I was excited about a new cake shop, impressed that they deliver and that the reviews were pretty good. However, between waiting for the delivery guy and texting with a rep from SP (initially they sounded unsure if it could be delivered to me in the originally planned window, as they asked for a later time) - it all made me pretty anxious and disappointed since the cake was for a birthday that day and I started questioning my decision to try someplace new. The representative tried to be reassuring, but the delivery was still late and they forgot the previously mentioned candles. Not a great first impression. The actual cake impression: I ordered the pistachio round cake for 6-8 people. It arrived in a clear plastic box with a bow. Nice presentation, but to be honest I prefer recyclable boxes. The cake looked super small too. Once sliced though, I realized how dense and tall the cake is; I knew it would feed that amount of people because this is not a cake one would need a big slice to feel fulfilled. The frosting was a buttercream (which is usually my favorite part of any cake). I need to emphasize the word BUTTER though. It really was dense, not creamy at all, not very sweet at all and not to exaggerate, but it felt and tasted like I was eating a stick of butter. Unfortunately, no one else was impressed and felt the same way. Everyone ate around the frosting. The actual cake was quite delicious though. Nice hint of pistachio, and really had a great texture; not too hard and not too soft. Tasted also faintly of maple pancakes. Very impressed and a nice change. The filling was pistachio as well. Had an artificial green color and definitely an artificially pistachio flavoring. I'm not sure what I should've expected though, but I didn't notice a nutty flavor like you would with pistachio pudding? Not great, but not too gross. I guess it was nice to try something different. For the price, I feel like I'd rather just drive to Alliance bakery and get a better cake. Overall, frosting was gross, filling was meh, but delicious sponge cake. I like the delivery option, but next time I'll plan for a bigger window. Can't say I'll be a forever customer, but I may try their other cake flavors or keto options in future. Cutest bakery ever! I came across it when I was looking for a cupcakes close to my work. I got about 2 dozen different mini cupcakes for an office party, and everyone was raving about how good they were. *Update*: I spoke with the owner and she expressed her sincere regret with the situation. For this reason I will chalk up this situation with the bakery as a one time mishap and not indicative of their overall service and performance. I have had their cupcakes before and did not have this issue, so this may have been an isolated incident. I suspect that this won't be happening again. Original Post: I debated long and hard about writing a review because the owner did attempt to make the situation better, but after I cut into the cake I pretty much felt like this needed to be shared. I hate long reviews, but I want to make sure that this review is thorough. I ordered a custom baby shower cake 6 weeks in advance. I spent about 25-30 mins with the owner on the cake. I literally told her i just want the picture. I will pay extra to achieve the look in the picture. And that is exactly what I did. I spent an extra $50 to make sure that the cake I ordered would mimick the photo I presented. The only addition I added was a welcome message to be applied to the base board of the cake. Pretty simple and doesn't change the look of the cake at all. I come in the morning at 10am to pick up the cake for a baby shower at 2pm. As you can see from the photos, this is not the cake I ordered. The colors are way off, the icing was thinning, the height of the cake was incorrect, and the welcome message of the cake was no where to be found. I immediately took issue with the cake and the employee called the owner. She proceeds to tell me that she saw the cake before she left and thought it looked perfect and that no welcome message was on the paper work. I promptly tell her that there is no way possible the cakes look even remotely similar and that I am staring at their paper work which indicates the welcome message on it. At this moment all credibility is lost with this bakery. I began to freak out because I am 100% embarrassed by the cake they attempted to present me with and I'm not really confident that they can fix it. I request a new cake, but she indicates there is no time before the shower. She proceeds to tell me that they cake is salvageable and that she will come in to fix it. Alas, I come back to pick up the cake it is better. Now let's be clear it is a better representation but it is still not what I asked for. I settle for the cake well because I have a babyshower that requires a cake and this is somewhat presentable. She also offers me a $50 credit towards my next cake. This is absolutely ridiculous to me particularly because there is no way this woman thinks I am coming back to get another cake. I spent a $150 on a cake and she thinks $50 will solve my heartburn. Absolutely not. I pack the cake up and speed out of there because I'm already at this point going to be late. Mind you, I leave with no coupon or voucher, just a verbal commitment. This again appeared unprofessional. The shower proceeds and its time to cut the cake. This was the straw that broke the camels back for me. The cake was gross. It was supposed to be a caramel cake! The cake was dense and tasted like cornbread. Look at the images for yourself. There are layers of what i image to be condensed milk that are thick and spotty. What the heck is this layer anyway. I imagined it would take something similar to their salted caramel but this definitely was not it. Oh and to top it off, we found a hair. How UNSANITARY! You can tell that the hair originated from the bakery because it is imbedded in the icing. Overall, I just feel like this my entire experience was really subpar. From the professionalism, cake decor and the taste of the cake it was all done so poorly. It felt like they threw my cake together and paid no attention to detail. Ok, if you want to have a dessert table for any occasion like a wedding, which is what we did, this is the place to come. Monica is awesome to work with!!! We had a tasting at the bakery which was amazing as I left with a belly ache from shoving my face with all the awesomeness they have there. They even detailed recipes to our taste and preferences. I ordered a strawberry cupcake and a salted Carmel cupcake I didn't like the fact that the cupcakes were not filled the only thing salted Carmel on the cupcake was the little Carmel they put on the top the rest of the cupcake was plain had absolutely no flavor and then the strawberry cupcake I ate it and asked myself what flavor was that supposed to be. All the icings was the same texture and flavor who ever does that baking here needs to go back to the drawing board. I would not go back to this place nor do I recommend this place. I really don't like giving bad reviews but this place was awful I'm really disappointed. read more

Picked up cupcakes for a few of my coworkers. This place is super cute and you can tell they pay a lot of attention to detail. Athough only 4 stars because it takes them a while to prepare the cupcakes. It be a lot better if the cupcakes were prepared beforehand. I waited about 20 minutes for my order. I happened upon this place after a meeting in the West Loop. The decor is minimalist and excellent, and the selection of cupcakes is eye-popping. But as if that wasn't good enough, prepare to have your cupcakes frosted. That is not a euphemism - they customize your dessert with frosting and toppings ranging from fruit snacks to chocolate-covered popcorn. Metropolis Coffee on hand is an added bonus. I really wanted to like this place but the best way I can describe it is "clunky". You walk in and its cute decor wise and since the cupcake case is the first thing you see I immediately thought it was a cupcake shop. Unfortunately, for me this place is no Molly's. I was given the run down as I'm pretty sure the lady behind the counter knew I was perplexed by the naked cupcakes, they just had the bottoms no frosted ones except the cupcake "mannequins" to show what you a couple options. She described that the cupcakes could be filled and topped anyway you would like even with candy. At this point I likened this place to a yogurt shop where you start with the base and get creative. The only problem with that for me was, when it comes to cupcakes I get lazy and I just want to grab the one that looks best and has the most appealing flavor combo. So that's a problem for me, too many choices, and you end up with a hodge podge mess that doesn't even go well together. They do offer malts and s'mores which may have been the better route to go. Another thing I noticed was that the lady had to keep going in the back to get ingredients, i.e. Nutella, reeses Peanut butter ( out of a jar to center fill my chocolate cake). I know this sounds like a really terrible experience but it truly wasnt , as I mentioned I just think this place has to work out some kinks. If you're going to go with a build your own option, I think a menu of frosting cake and topping choices would be really helpful or maybe suggested cupcake combos. Also for 4 cupcakes it ran me close to $20.00, which seems really high to me. I will say though, the chocolate cupcake had a great texture and flavor so they're on to something, the buttercream texture was a little off to me, not exactly creamy enough but tasted fine. Lastly, I like a cupcake shop to take me all of five min to get in and out before I can talk myself out of all those calories, this place does not give that kind of quick stop experience, took a while actually and I was the only person there, part of the reason was I couldn't choose toppings quickly, so I can't imagine how it would be if it was busy, probably a long wait.
