    $135 worth of product

I live out of state and was scouring the internet for a cute, local Chicago bakery to send treats to my sister for her birthday! Day of, I came across Skinny Piggy Bakery and there seemed to be a lot of sweet treats to send. It was incredibly expensive, but I was okay with it because I really expected it to be reflected in the product I ordered. She sent me a photo, and everything was packaged in plastic. I paid for a note and a bow, which was just a small cheap gift bow. I guess I was expecting nice white gift boxes with a big satin bow. They reached out to me to see when I would need it delivered, which I really appreciated. I was flexible and timing didn't matter to me! 5/5 stars for delivery experience, especially day of. My sister enjoyed the treats, thought they were yummy and cute! I just was disappointed in the packaging.

WARNING- SCAM BAKERY!! You will get scammed and not get what you asked for. Make sure to read the negative reviews for this place!!! I'm trying to save people from getting scammed! The Better Business Bureau has contacted! Venmo has been notified that Monica from this bakery has not registered her venmo account as a business even though she is asking for payments through venmo for her business. Her account is now being investigated. (Picture of venmo convo inserted below) They WILL NOT correct the order or refund any mistakes on their end, and they make a lot of mistakes. RED FLAG #1- They only accept venmo, cash app, or Zelle or credit cards over the phone. No proper business operates like this. RED FLAG #2- They will NOT give you a receipt. Monica said many times she will email me one but never did. RED FLAG #3- They will charge you $15 for delivery no matter what because customers "are not allowed in store" Spoke to Monica about making some gender reveal cupcakes. She's a snake so read carefully: I specially told her I want blue, pink, white buttercream rosettes for my cupcakes. She instead tried to charge me $14 extra for fondent frosting. I said no, I repeated many times I want pink, blue, white roses. I did not receive this, instead as you can see in the picture I got grocery market cupcakes with white frosting sloppy placed on top. You can even see the bare spots of frosting not being placed on right. She of course defended it by saying "that's how we do them, but we don't tell customers that". She LIED right away accusing me of wanting only white frosting. She defended every mistake stating I said something else and this is how the bakery does it. In addition, when I told her she messed up my delivery time, she had nothing to say. They came hours earlier than the delivery was expected. She will probably responded to this review with additional lies. Her lies continued to roll out of her mouth, it was like speaking to a misguided child. In the end she charged me $85 for a dozen cupcakes white dry cupcakes with sloppy white frosting on them. She continuously lied about details of our conversation and didn't take any responsibility for her mistakes. In the end she refused a compensation. She's running a SCAM bakery. Please go to the other wonderful bakeries chicago has to offer. Save yourself from being taken advantage of. I'm sincerely embarrassed for the operation they are running in this FRAUDULENT bakery. Anyone running a legitimate business would not conduct business in this manner. You can see what type of deceptive person Monica is. Proof is in the picture.

    Adorable cupcake!

Skinny Piggy is magical! Let's start by getting out of the way how adorable their name is. Really, it's my ideal life presented in a shop's name. So thanks for that gentle reminder of what I aim to be. So why~oh~why is this shop so Willy Wonka-esque? Well, you walk into this wonderland and a plethora of sugary options are presented to you. Then YOU create whatever you like. They should have T.I. playing in loop over their sound system because you legit can have "Whatever You Like". Their fabulous staff can help guide you through things as a first timer and they are patient as you hem & haw with the big life decisions. You can start with a brownie, cupcake, cookie, even a cookie bowl, or cheesecake. Then pick frostings and toppings! If you get a sundae, toppings are unlimited and man do they have some cool options - poprocks and panda cookies, what! To go over every option possible would take me 100 years (I just scientifically crunched the numbers) so let's just get on to.... They also have a bunch of amazing pre-created concoctions if you need a bit of help in the choosing game. I only did pre-made things and loved every single option I tried. Mini Cookie Dough Cupcake - Money! Cookies & Cream Cupcake - Doubly money thanks to the adorable chocolate pig on top. Mini Salted Caramel Brownie - Wowzas! Mini Chocolate Chip Cookie with toppings - Yepppp. So basically, everything I had was very good. Cakes were moist, frostings had the right amount of sugar & sweet, cookies were soft and all my goodies tasted delicious. Did I mention nearly everything comes in full size OR mini? Um, yes girl. So you can try more things and not feel quite as bad being the beastly indulgent skinny piggy you truly are. The shop is super cute & chic, perfect place for UIC students to chill out & get some studying or catching up done over some coffee & sweets. What's more is their prices are totally reasonable compared to similar cupcake-ish shops. I've found love on Taylor Street and her name is Skinny Piggy.

I don't even know where to begin. This is a group of Miracle workers! I called them with only 2 days to turn around a VEGAN & GLUTEN FREE custom Blueberry Cream birthday cake for me. Even though this wasn't an option on their menu, they were confident they could do this for me and in my extremely short time frame. I was skeptical. It was all just too easy. And at the right price! The value was great. I told Megan it was my birthday and that I wanted it to look 'pretty' but that I wouldn't have the first clue how. There were so many add on options for a fee but I didn't ask for any bc I wasn't sure how it would look. To my (pleasant) surprise, when they delivered the cake ON TIME, she had given me a complimentary upgrade in design - it was pretty obvious! And I was in love. But then it was finally time to cut the cake. I was nervous - vegan and gluten free; and it's PRETTY?! Hmmm... How will it taste though??? DECADENT! That's how! Extremely moist. Not too sweet. You could taste the freshness of the blueberries. It was absolutely the best cake I have EVER had! The cake feeds 15. I only had 6 people over and I only had 2 slices left over to freeze that night. Do yourself a favor and PLACE AN ORDER!!!!

The cake my brother ordered for my 30th birthday was delicious and sugar free to meet my dietary needs. Usually cake that's sugar free is not tasty - but this was! The writing was airbrushed onto the cake and not piped. It looked so beautiful and they even delivered it.

I needed a sugar free cake for my mother who is a diabetic. Skinny piggy exceeded my expectations when it came to the aesthetic of the cake as well as taste. We couldn't even tell that the cake was sugar free. It meant the world to me knowing that my mother could enjoy her birthday cake without remorse or worry. Also the delivery feature is so helpful! I was able to at least take one thing off my mind that day knowing that the cake was going to get delivered. They have gained a lifelong customer! I just placed another order for my sister's birthday cake and I can't wait to see the final result!

Cutest bakery ever! I came across it when I was looking for a cupcakes close to my work. I got about 2 dozen different mini cupcakes for an office party, and everyone was raving about how good they were. They aren't extremely sweet, like most bakeries, which makes their cupcakes creamy and very flavourful. Their red velvet cupcakes with the red velvet cherry on top is to die for! The people are very sweet and really help in picking out the cupcakes and any customisation if you need it. Can't recommend this place highly enough! Love love love it!

Today is the soft opening of the remodeled and reconcepeted skinny piggy. The store is completely redone. The candy jars have been transitioned into a create your own cupcake concept. You can choose from an assortment of cupcake flavors (strawberry, mixed berries, vanilla, etc. ) and add your customized frosting (e.g. salted caramel, chocolate, cream cheese, etc) and choice of topping like marshmallows, nuts, or cherries. Alternatively, those who have a hard time making choices can opt for a house special such as the chocolate with chocolate cream cheese frosting cupcake which I tried. It was very rich and full bodied. You can totally taste the cream cheese which balanced the chocolate perfectly. Very very yummy!

    Isn't this gorgeous?!!!
    Happy D.

OMG!!! Love love their cakes! I went in for a cake tasting and I had such a hard time choosing what flavors I wanted since they were all delicious! I ordered a naked smash cake for my daughters first birthday photoshoot and it turned out gorgeous and of course delicious! Thank you Monica!!

"I Want It All" malt. Sadly true. Made me quite a piggy, still looking for the skinny...
    Hannah C.

I came here to find a place to snack and get some work done. I wound up with a malt that mixed ice cream, a cupcake, a brownie, and candy. It was amazingly delicious - just as good as Scooter's or other specialty shops. I went for an "evil twin" cupcake that combined cheesecake and chocolate because how could you not? Wifi was readily available (xfinity, although they also have their own) and good choices of retro music. Outlets are not super conveniently placed but in the afternoon they don't mind if you sprawl at out one of their tables and run a power cord.

*Update*: I spoke with the owner and she expressed her sincere regret with the situation. For this reason I will chalk up this situation with the bakery as a one time mishap and not indicative of their overall service and performance. I have had their cupcakes before and did not have this issue, so this may have been an isolated incident. I suspect that this won't be happening again. Original Post: I debated long and hard about writing a review because the owner did attempt to make the situation better, but after I cut into the cake I pretty much felt like this needed to be shared. I hate long reviews, but I want to make sure that this review is thorough. I ordered a custom baby shower cake 6 weeks in advance. I spent about 25-30 mins with the owner on the cake. I literally told her i just want the picture. I will pay extra to achieve the look in the picture. And that is exactly what I did. I spent an extra $50 to make sure that the cake I ordered would mimick the photo I presented. The only addition I added was a welcome message to be applied to the base board of the cake. Pretty simple and doesn't change the look of the cake at all. I come in the morning at 10am to pick up the cake for a baby shower at 2pm. As you can see from the photos, this is not the cake I ordered. The colors are way off, the icing was thinning, the height of the cake was incorrect, and the welcome message of the cake was no where to be found. I immediately took issue with the cake and the employee called the owner. She proceeds to tell me that she saw the cake before she left and thought it looked perfect and that no welcome message was on the paper work. I promptly tell her that there is no way possible the cakes look even remotely similar and that I am staring at their paper work which indicates the welcome message on it. At this moment all credibility is lost with this bakery. I began to freak out because I am 100% embarrassed by the cake they attempted to present me with and I'm not really confident that they can fix it. I request a new cake, but she indicates there is no time before the shower. She proceeds to tell me that they cake is salvageable and that she will come in to fix it. Alas, I come back to pick up the cake it is better. Now let's be clear it is a better representation but it is still not what I asked for. I settle for the cake well because I have a babyshower that requires a cake and this is somewhat presentable. She also offers me a $50 credit towards my next cake. This is absolutely ridiculous to me particularly because there is no way this woman thinks I am coming back to get another cake. I spent a $150 on a cake and she thinks $50 will solve my heartburn. Absolutely not. I pack the cake up and speed out of there because I'm already at this point going to be late. Mind you, I leave with no coupon or voucher, just a verbal commitment. This again appeared unprofessional. The shower proceeds and its time to cut the cake. This was the straw that broke the camels back for me. The cake was gross. It was supposed to be a caramel cake! The cake was dense and tasted like cornbread. Look at the images for yourself. There are layers of what i image to be condensed milk that are thick and spotty. What the heck is this layer anyway. I imagined it would take something similar to their salted caramel but this definitely was not it. Oh and to top it off, we found a hair. How UNSANITARY! You can tell that the hair originated from the bakery because it is imbedded in the icing. Overall, I just feel like this my entire experience was really subpar. From the professionalism, cake decor and the taste of the cake it was all done so poorly. It felt like they threw my cake together and paid no attention to detail. An entire waste of money.

We walked into a casual and modern space that works well for stopping by after a meal or meeting up with friends for something sweet. The interior is bright and clean, with a relaxed energy that makes it easy to settle in for a dessert without feeling rushed. The menu has a wide range of options, from shaved ice and mango sago to cakes and other fruit desserts, making it easy to find something depending on your mood. The mango mille crepe cake is one of the highlights and a great representation of what the shop does well. We ordered a slice and found the cake made with thin layers of crepe stacked together with cream and fresh mango, creating a texture that feels light while still being satisfying. The layers are soft and delicate, and the mango adds a bright fruitiness that keeps the dessert from feeling overly heavy or too sweet. The balance between the creamy layers and the fresh mango flavor made it feel more refreshing than a traditional cake, especially with the mango being ripe and fragrant. It was also one of the better choices for sharing, as the slice was generous enough to pass around the table. Beyond the mille crepe cake, the menu has plenty of variety with options like mango shaved ice, mango sticky rice, and fruit-based drinks. We appreciated that the desserts are presented carefully, making the experience feel more like a sit-down dessert stop rather than just grabbing something quick. The shaved ice was light and fluffy, with a good amount of mango and toppings that added texture without overwhelming the base. The fruit-based drinks were also refreshing and served as a nice palate cleanser between the richer desserts. The shop can get busy, especially after dinner hours, but the line usually moves along at a steady pace. The staff handled the flow efficiently, and the turnover was fast enough that even with a small wait, we were seated quickly. The seating area is comfortable, and the energy of the room stays lively without becoming too loud. Mango Mango Dessert is a solid Chinatown dessert destination if you are looking for fruit-forward sweets with a lighter, refreshing style. The mango mille crepe cake is a must-try for first visits and one of the items that best captures the appeal of the menu, offering a dessert that feels both visually appealing and satisfying to eat.

I wish I was able to travel with one of their cheesecakes but they require refrigeration. Anyhow the cheesecake itself was delicious super light, fluffy, and honestly felt like biting into a cloud. I had the salted egg but they had several flavor options that I would've loved to try if slices were available. The texture is what really stands out, and the flavor was unique and interesting in a good way. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it taste like, but it was sweet, but not too sweet They only sale but I consider a personal size but it's definitely enough to share with two people, maybe even three depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have. My only downside like others is the price. Paying around $19-$20 for a small cheesecake felt a bit steep, especially since they don't offer slices. I really wish they had smaller portions available so you could try different flavors without committing to a full cake prize. They package it very well and they also serve you a cute little fork set and a knife for cutting which I think is contributes to the price. The shop itself is very cute with chic décor and a lot of Asian-inspired artwork, which adds to the overall vibe. Customer service was friendly. When I visit Chicago again I'd definitely go back the texture and taste alone make it worth it but I do hope they consider offering smaller portions in the future.
