When we arrived for the tasting, Jo-Anne was so sweet and fun. She explained all these fun details about cake and was super fun and easy to communicate with. You can tell how truly passionate she is about cake and making sure all of her clients have the best experience possible. The tasting was also very fun and it was fun that we got to take home a second box in order to try all of the flavors again to make an informed decision! Onto the cake! We decided with a chocolate cake with chocolate fudge on one side, and a white cake with vanilla icing on the other side, these sides separated by the Italian buttercream. I will be dreaming about her Italian buttercream for the rest of my life. As a dessert connoisseur, I had high expectations for my wedding cake, and this cake exceeded them. The chocolate side was rich and the perfect amount of sweet. You could really taste the true chocolate flavors. The white cake was exceptional as well, with a perfect sweet vanilla frosting. The Italian buttercream was buttery, smooth, and truly the perfect middle divide for the cake as it matched both sides very well. I really have not tasted a better wedding cake and our guests were obsessed with the cake too so that just goes to show how quality and incredible the cake it. Truly all of it was an elevated and quality take on classic flavors. I am so so happy we got our wedding cake from here. Truly the most delicious cake I've ever eaten and our guests agree. We couldn't even wait a year to eat the anniversary cake we generously received so that is completely eaten already, so we will definitely just be getting a new one every year to enjoy the cake over and over again and we are so excited to continue to support Jo-Anne and her lovely business. If I can I always try and multiple items to get a really good feel of how good a place really is. So I ordered one of their assorments, chocoholics anonymous. It includes: 16 piece chubby collection 8 piece square one brownie 9 piece special chocolate truffle assortment 10 piece loose ends My wife loved every bit. Everything was so fresh. Note: we live in Arizona, and had to have it shipped out. You couldn't tell though. Everything is very nicely sealed. Items are shipped the next day after they are freshly made. You can't beat that. The brownies are amazing, and the end peices are all you hope for with the as seen on tv all edge brownie pans. Just a touch crispy outside and melt in your mouth inside. The hands down favorite were the chubby wubby. Its two chocolate cookies with an amazing filling, several flavors, in the middle. They are life changing. The mint and peanut butter are my wife's favorite. They are so good that this year we had to order them again, and the rumor is we will have to get another assorment for the holidays to take with us. I did research on Gluten-Free bakeries as I knew our wedding would be 100% GF. Fast-forward...We contracted with Trump Hotel without knowing that the cake was included. I then called Cake Chicago and was informed that it was included which you can't not believe the relief after that conversation. The Joanne and her team were great to work with. We did the tasting at their location. The gf cake is to die for and she really knows what she's talking about. It's not cardboard and with filings, she's done the R&D. We choose a 6 tier cake (4 tier cake with 2 faux tiers). 5 Tiers were Vanilla Cake/Strawberry filing/Chocolate Cake/Chocolate Mousse/Vanilla Cake/Strawberry filing/Chocolate Cake. The top tier is Vanilla Cake/Salted Caramel/Vanilla Cake/Chocolate Mousse/Chocolate Cake/Tiramisu/Chocolate Cake. He likes Chocolate/Tiramisu and I like Vanilla/Caramel. They also helped me pull off the Groom's Cake surprise. I told them about the surprise and design prior to the tasting. So through the tasting my husband wanted tiramisu and the tuxedo (van./choc./van./choc.) but I talked him out of it. I told him that not everyone has that taste, blah blah blah. I know it was manipulative but it was for a good cause. My family that came with knew what I was up to also. He stopped in the bathroom before we left so I then which told Joanne, that's what cake to make the Millennium Falcon Groom's Cake and we could work out the details by phone/email. (The day of...) His expression was priceless and he loved it. Everyone was raving about both cakes but they loves the creativity of the Mil. Falcon. No one knew that it was gluten-free unless we told them. Joanne did offer to bring 4 non-gf pieces for those who had nut allergies as the gf cake has nuts in it. We had 2 wedding cake pieces left for us (and the topper) and about 1/2 of the grooms cake to take home. The rest was devoured. I'll never go anywhere else for gluten free cake. This place is friggin' amazing! My husband and I were lucky enough to have Mary make and design our wedding cake, and she nailed it! Aesthetically, it was spot on. Our request was for the cake to be "funky and elegant" with a bit of a personal touch. The colors were perfect, and matched my dress (sort of an eggplant color, or "Dahlia" to be specific) and the flowers (Blood Calla Lilies and Mokara orchids) wonderfully. She even did the piping to match my tattoo. Needless to say, it look BAD. ASS. Its unique and beautiful exterior was still no match for its delicious interior. Layer 1: A perfectly textured (i.e., not too fluffy/dense) white cake with creme brulee and raspberry filling. Layer 2: Banana cake (REAL banana, none of that fake banana taffy or runt flavored shit) with salted caramel filling. We were thrilled with the final product, and also really enjoyed the experience of working with the staff at Cake. They were kind, accommodating, creative and professional. They gave us multiple fillings and multiple cakes to try, each one as delicious as the last. It was a bit overwhelming having to choose between so many great choices but, with the help of our family and Mary, we were able to pick a great combination. While we were trying all the flavors, Mary also took us through some pictures on an iPad to get an idea of what we wanted our cake to look like. We left the appointment very excited to share our cake with our guests. On the day of the wedding, the cake was exactly what we had described to Mary. It was absolutely gorgeous and although we had to eat it on the run during the reception, it was the best wedding cake we've ever had.
