This time, I opted for the frosted sugar cookie and the seasonal Neapolitan cupcake. Let me be clear: I've had quite a few cookies in my time, and this may top the list! I came today 6/24/26 in around 9:10 AM to pick up a birthday cake and was disappointed by the customer service. I was the only customer in the store at the time. The first employee I approached did not greet me, did not say good morning, and did not ask how she could help. She appeared annoyed and said she had a lot of paperwork to do. When I expressed that there was no reason to speak to customers that way, another employee responded that I didn't understand how hard the work is and that the job is difficult. I understand every job can be stressful, but customers should still be treated with courtesy and professionalism. These cakes are not inexpensive, and picking up a special order should feel welcoming. I hope management addresses customer service because this experience made me reconsider returning." The cakes are good, but the customer service is lousy. I was the only customer when I arrived and did not feel welcomed or acknowledged when I walked in. I observed that other customers who arrived after me were greeted and assisted right away, while I was not approached in the same way. The experience left me feeling uncomfortable and concerned about customer service consistency and fairness. I'm sharing this feedback directly so it can be reviewed with staff. So what you want at this place is their frosting which is INCREDIBLE. So amazing just perfect. Get anything with as much frosting as possible. I thought a double doozie was 2 cookies with frosting in the center and frosting on top, but that was the sweetie pie. Double doozie was just the sandwich cookie without the frosting. Delicious! I wanted a sweet treat while in the city and found this place. Came long long after they opened so it wasn't busy. I got there cinnamon roll and chocolate cupcake and both were delicious. My cousin and best friend live in the city and they know to get my order for our meet ups outside chicago. They've gone through TSA to get me my treats. Multiple times. That's love. Frosting is life. I have strong feelings that sauce is boss. Is frosting the bakery equivalent? It is in my book and Sweet Mandy B's serves it up! It's not overly sweet, has just the right amount of salt, and just perfection. We are so deep into it that my cousin's fiancé had a tub of frosting for her the night he proposed. He knows. Vibes are so cute, service is nice and quick! This is just what I needed. I got a chocolate chip cookie and my husband got the peanut butter rice crispy. I will say I was surprised by the near $6 price tag. But I feel the cookie was very fair priced but super thin and chewy not much of a crispiness but the flavor is good not too sweet. A lot in there is covered by frosting which was a bit too heavy for me. I will say I was annoyed by the 34 cent handling fee. It's a bakery so I feel like handling is just part of it. I've been coming to Sweet Mandy B's since I first moved to Chicago more than five years ago. In fact, I frequent the Lincoln Park location almost once a week, always stocking up on my favorite, the exceptional Peanut Butter Rice Krispies treat! Since I've been going down to Webster Ave, they've opened another location down in Streeterville, which is just as good, and occasionally has some items the LP location does not. My go tos have always been the PB treat and the Ranger Cookie, both excellent combinations of sweet and savory, with great texture and perfect execution. My wife is a huge fan of their cupcakes (they offer vegan options) and the iced molasses cookie, a decadent delight. Even though my sweet tooth has slightly lessened over the years, and I don't get these items anymore, I can attest to the incredible Magic Bar, confetti cookie, and their offerings of banana bread (tip: get the pumpkin break when they offer it in the fall - so moist and delicious). Ordering ahead on their website has been a wonderful post-Covid addition, making pickup a breeze. Staff is always attentive and friendly, a few have even gotten to the point of not even needing to ask for my name when I come in to grab my order (when you order basically the same thing once a week, I guess that'll happen). I would be interested in them trying some new things out once in a while, and perhaps offering more savory options, but this has become an institution in this city, and remains at the top of the list. Like every bakery right now, their prices have slowly been creeping up; however, they're either right in line, or slightly below, your other top bakeries in the city. I happened to be near and decided I'd drive by to see if there was any parking, and since there actually was a spot it felt like kismet. Sweet Mandy B's can literally be overlooked if you aren't looking for it and it's located on a super small street. However when you're approaching the place, it's pretty massive. They take up about two storefronts worth of spacing. So plenty of room. Upon entering, it was pretty busy inside but you're welcomed with the sweet scents of baked goods and your eyes are met with tasty look pastries. This local bakery sells cakes, cupcakes, cups of banana pudding, pies, bars. You name it they just about have it. I settled in purchasing the carrot cake cupcake. I've only ever had carrot cake once prior and it was vegan (quite delicious); so I wanted to give the flavor another go without missing ingredients. I paid $4ish for one and the sizing was little smaller than average. Enough to give you a taste and determine if you enjoyed it or not. Thoughts: the cream cheese frosting could've been smoother. Felt like it was sitting out for quite some time or maybe the sliding door was left open. The cake itself was soft and moist to compliment the decent amount of nuts found inside it.
