We had the most incredible experience with Pie, Pie My Darling for our wedding! As a vegan couple having a small wedding, it was really important to us to have a beautiful, delicious cake for a traditional cake-cutting moment in front of our families -- and Heather absolutely delivered. The chocolate pistachio cake was a showstopper; it looked stunning and tasted even better. Even our non-vegan family members couldn't stop raving about it! Heather was an absolute joy to work with. She was so flexible and accommodating, even allowing us to pick up the cake a bit earlier, which took a lot of logistical stress off our big day. We are so grateful to her for helping make our celebration even sweeter. If you're looking for a vegan cake that everyone (vegan or not) will love, we highly recommend Pie, Pie My Darling!

We have been long time fans of Pie Pie my Darling and they are truly one of the best vegan bakeries in Chicago. Their high quality creations are vegan and most important outstanding. Highly respected and all about not loosing that touch. I think we have tried most of their creation most recent we picked up a trifecta of creations from one of the restaurant partners that they have built out. Raspberry Lemonade 2.0- A new creation which has a good zesty lemon pop with smooth and silky raspberry tones. Moist and amazing ... love this for spring and summer! Hard to find as it's new but if you get the opportunity it's a must! Confetti- I personally really like this cake. It's classic and balanced well. It's a classic cake, vegan and freakin amazing Cookie Dough- my family favorite... it's a 10 out 10 cookie dough explosion topped with chocolate chip cookies. It's seriously amazing. A little goes a long way. It's very sweet and literally like eating cookie dough which is a good thing despite what your mom told you! Okay so to sum it up- if you haven't tried Pie Pie my darling it's a must. True entrepreneurs. Do the community a favor be respectful and share with your friends. Things got a little crazy when they became known and some people became not so nice when they couldn't get a cake.

During these times, this small gem and baker found a way to create such a unique way of bringing together cake and a classic cookie in Nutter Butter. The cake is light and fluffy and the cream filling is the perfect amount of sweet. This cake melted in my mouth and the consistency of the cake was also on point with no cake falling apart. The peanut butter taste was not too strong and very happy with my slice of sweet from here, can't wait to try more creations!

Everything Pie, Pie My Darling has to offer is delicious. I have ordered from PPMD on multiple occasions. The staff and owner are a dream team and radiate passion for what they do.

I accidentally ordered my birthday cake from Pie Pie My Darling. It's quite funny. I follow them on IG, and I definitely thought I had tasted their cake at Vegandale in September. I didn't realize that I was wrong after I paid for the cake. Best mistake ever!!!! . Customer service: I was due to pick up my birthday cake on February 2, the day mother nature dumped a boatload of snow on Chicago. The bakery reached out to me to let me know that if I wanted to pick up my cake I could but I could also reschedule my pick up. Love that customer service!! Thank you for not forcing me to drive 15 miles in snowy/slushy awfulness!! The cake was so delicious. It was moist and super cute. You definitely can't "taste that it is vegan." I will be a repeat customer.

Hands down the best vegan cake!!! I first discovered PPMD via Instagram. Heather (the owner) is very engaged with her customers and you can tell how much love she puts into her baking. So far I've tried the banana split, lemon, peanut butter pretzel, biscoff, strawberry funfetti cake slices or cake cups (not cupcakes but a small container with a mini cakes inside). I can't honestly tell you which one I prefer over the other because they are all delicious and moist (I have found most vegan cake to be dry before PPMD). Now you can't walk in to get a slice, you can only order on their website once a week from a certain time. Currently, the only day you can pick up your preorder is on Saturday. They do accept cake orders with at minimum of 7 days notice. The menu switches flavors monthly for the cake slices and weekly for the cake cups. Slices are about $9 and the cake cups are $6.50. Also, PPMD donates a portion of their profits each month for organizations that provide help and support for communities such as LGBTQ+, Indigenous, African American, mental health, Ukrainian humanitarian aid, etc. So you get a tasty treat and also help organizations that are making a difference.

This place is FANTASTIC! Everything that they make is stellar. I love how accessible their cake slices are throughout Chicago, and their flavors are so inventive and always delicious. I've tried their pumpkin snickerdoodle cake, chocolate and mint cake, and their carrot cake. My favorite was the carrot cake but you really can't go wrong. Non vegans I've shared these cakes with could not believe the cakes were vegan. I've also tried their cookies and pies through their Saturday treat pick ups at their storefront which have allowed me to see how versatile their baking is! Key lime pie is something I loved before going vegan and so it's such a delight to have a go to vegan option. Please support this incredible women-owned business!

This is a review of their pre-ordering process, more so than their cakes. Their cakes are phenomenal - which is why I am so sad to leave this kind of review. To Pie Pie: Please, at the very least, consider adding additional detail to your preorder emails. Or perhaps an automated texting system to remind your customers about their orders. I understand that you have more than enough demand, but that doesn't absolve you of trying to notify your customers about orders placed with their hard earned money. To Customers: If you think you double checked your order pick up details (like I did), triple and quadruple check. -----more detail----- Pie pie's cakes are lovely. They have extremely high demand and have a competitive ordering process. We really wanted to support local Chicago restaurants for Thanksgiving, and decided to splurge on a cake from Pie Pie, and a meal kit from Frontier. To order from Pie Pie, I bookmarked the preorder date (Saturday, 11/14/2020) so we could be sure to refresh the page at the right time. On Saturday, I checked the webpage, and the preorder had been pushed to Monday, 11/16/2020 - during work hours. This was a little frustrating, because it was more difficult to get an order in in between meetings. But between my husband and I, we managed to place an order! Sweet! They sold out very quickly. After placing an order, I received one confirmation email (attached). Note that the is email purely confirms the order, and does not include any details about the order process, when/where to pick up/rules, etc. At the same time, I also placed an order from Frontier (attached). Note that Frontier's email includes specific instructions on when/where to pick up. I marked my calendar for Thanksgiving day, thinking I would pick up both in one fell swoop (my mistake). Additionally, Frontier sent a reminder two days prior with details about pick up. The night before thanksgiving, at around 8 PM, I pulled up my orders to confirm pick up times. It was at that point, that I realized Pie Pie's pick up was that day between 12-6 PM..... all the way at the very bottom of the website, I see that they had a disclaimer about orders being donated if not picked up within the window. I was surprised that they wouldn't give no-shows a call/text to see if they were going to pick up their order. I sent them a question on Instagram immediately and also sent an email, asking if there was any way that I could pick up my cake, or get some sort of partial credit (any amount at all) toward a future purpose. I even said that a guaranteed spot in the next preorder would be great! $44 on a cake is not a trivial amount to spend on a cake - especially during the holidays - ESPECIALLY during the kind of year we've had. My query was met with a cold answer that effectively said 'No, we can't give you anything. Next time, cancel your order if you aren't going to pick it up' I understand that time and effort go into your cakes. I had 0 expectation of a full refund. Even a slot in a future preorder would have been a show of good faith in a loyal customer.

    Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Pie

On my visit to Chicago to see one of my best friends and his girlfriend and to attend Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo 2019, we ordered and (almost) demolished an entire pie! To celebrate my friend's birthday, his girlfriend ordered a Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Pie. It tasted incredible! The presentation, the texture, the flavor, just everything about this pie was amazing! Between the three of us, we almost ate the entire thing in one go. On top of that, the pie is completely Vegan! If they wouldn't have told me, I would never have guessed it. In addition to pies, PPMD makes cakes and what's cool about this is that they take all of the extra cake scraps and shavings and create these mini cake trifles in pack them in mason jars. We ended up trying a Thin Mint Cake trifle and Classic Chocolate Cake trifle. Both were outstanding! It's probably a good thing I don't live in Chicago because I'd be eating these cakes and pies way too much! I can't wait to come back though and, hopefully, try a cake or just have my own cake trifle.

This is something else right here! The cake I got here might be the best cake I've ever had! We got a Cookie Monster Cake slice made from Pie, Pie My Darling after my brother recommended it to me as his favorite cake. Lets just say his recommendation did not disappoint as it lived up to all the hype! This vegan cake is so much better than any regular cake I've had which surprised me. People usually like to give anything vegan a bad name, but this cake right here proves all the critics wrong by a longshot! The cake itself is so moist and smooth and so unflaky unlike a lot of cakes I've had. It literally just melts in your mouth and puts your taste buds in an uncontrollable frenzy! The crazy part was my brother said this wasn't even the best flavor cake he's gotten here! Honestly this is the type of cake you have dreams about years later. I can not thank my brother enough for treating me to this delight! Honestly you truly haven't experienced cake until you've tried Pie, Pie My Darling.

I finally got to try the chocolate chip pie and it was VEGAN HEAVEN! The slice was hugeee (with it for the price) and the cake was moist and creamy. I can't wait to try the other flavors.

I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

Seating is pretty limited, but it looked like most folks were picking up pastries to go, but either way you order at the front one party at a time. Truffle Croissant (5/5): A must get, super intense black truffle against a perfectly flaky and chewy buttery croissant. The large bits of pearl sugar add pops of sweetness that I loved. Mango Tart (4.75/5): Mango really shines through with melt in your mouth texture and fruity sweetness. Coconut pasty cream adds almost a nutty flavor and luscious mouthfeel to contrast against the lightly crunchy cookie crust. Prosciutto Croissant (4.5/5): Pastry again impeccable with sharp saltiness from the prosciutto and cheese. Still absolutely delicious, but hard to recommend with how good the other items were. Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich (5/5): Another life changing bite. Hash brown add on is unbelievably crunchy against the egg bite that is pillowy soft and fluffy roll. Longanisa is salty and sweet, just the best way to start your morning. Lumpia (3.75/5): Comes out piping hot and the meat still stays juicy and bouncy. Good, not crazy. Filipino Breakfast with Longanisa and Tocino (4/5): Garlic rice is fluffy, but heavy on the garlic exactly like I love it. Sunny side up eggs were perfectly cooked and the two meats were actually the weakest components, a bit chewier than expected. Chicken Adobo (4.25/5): Chicken has almost a nice char on the outside and doused in a tangy sauce with crispy garlic bits. Tender and juicy, personally preferred this over the longanisa and tocino. Sweet Corn Hojicha (2/5): Only real whiff that we tried. While you could really taste the corn, unfortunately ended up being wayyyy too sweet and I couldn't have more than a sip or two.

Flaky dough, soft pistachio center and creamy top with a sharp citrus cut. Peach + raspberry Melba danish. The peaches were soft. I'm not familiar with a Melba dessert but the center of this was almond paste which is not my favorite but if you like almond and tart danish it would hit the spot. Raspberry espresso cream cheese cinnamon roll was a fun fruity twist to a cinnamon roll. Couldn't really tell there was espresso though. Blueberry lime cheesecake danish. I also liked this one because of the lime. It really cuts through the heaviness. The fruits on top were also fresh. They also have one day old blind boxes. I grabbed a 6 piece day old box to go and it was actually 6 different pasteries, half sweet and half savory! It only repeated 1 of the pasteries I had originally tried so I'm excited to try more, especially the savory ones. It's an amazing deal if you just want to try a variety of flavors. Tried the Hot dog danish - really good! Upscale pigs in a blanket vibes. The tiny fried are seasoned perfectly and add a fun crunch. I went on a weekday and there was still a good selection of pastries left around 11am. The staff was super nice and helpful as I struggled to make a decision. They shared that the strawberry milk croissant was their bestseller, so I opted for that. It was filled with fresh strawberry mascarpone and fresh strawberry puree. Despite the croissant's decadent appearance, it was not at all too sweet. I'm not typically the biggest croissant fan (I know, I know, no one is perfect) but this pastry blew me away. The filling was super generous without overpowering the delicate dough, which was baked to crispy perfection. I had such a hard time choosing, but knew I had to get the corn flake espresso cookie (SO FRICKIN AMAZING) the textures were elite, and the potato focaccia. The southwest hash brioche was friggin incredible. They were very generous with the sweet potato, WHOLE EGG, and veg. Like seriously, with the cost of groceries skyrocketing, I can't believe I got a whole bit of egg white and yolk. You must eat your goodies warm, the initial crunch had me in a chokehold. They also had a vegan focaccia which my friends appreciated. There's street parking and expect lines. Inside isn't super spacious, but the line does move. Bring sunnies and a book if you don't like to stand around. We got here before they opened on a Saturday morning and only had to wait like 15mins. They also sell cute lil Sugar Moon merch like fun tshirts and cards. Would 100% come back to get morning pastries from them. Super queer friendly as well. MUST visit.

I will say the savory items are definitely on the salty side though. I wish they were 20% less salty! I had ordered the miso mushroom brioche, asparagus foccaccia, and poblano brioche. It's worth the trek and the line. You'll probably end up eating from the box on the curb nearby, since inside seating is TIGHT. I live in SF and we don't mess around when it comes to bakeries. I will be returning to Sugar Moon next time I'm in Chicago. Wait for me, my love.
