Stopped by Allsopp's while passing through Little Rock after a long drive, excited to try it. We sat at the bar, which only had two other patrons who were already finishing up and waiting on their check. We ordered drinks and waters and then waited. Unfortunately, the bartender seemed to have no sense of urgency. Instead of checking in with us, she spent an extended period chatting with the departing patrons who had already closed out. Meanwhile, a manager was standing at the end of the bar the whole time, seemingly aimless, and never stepped in to redirect her or check on us despite how obvious the situation was. After several minutes with no drinks and no acknowledgment, I had to walk over to the hostess stand myself just to get a menu. Twenty minutes in, we still hadn't received our drinks, so we told her to cancel the order and let her know we were leaving. She genuinely seemed surprised when we explained how long we'd been waiting, which was surprising in itself given she was the one who left us sitting there -- and the manager standing right there did nothing to help. With only two other guests at the bar, this should have been an easy shift. Disappointing experience and won't be back! read more

I was looking forward to Allsopp & chapple after a disappointing dinner on the first day of my Little Rock trip. Unfortunately my meal at Allsopp didn't fare much better. For starters, the poor bartender serving me does not know how to make old fashioned cocktails and flat out admitted he has no idea how to make moscow mule... Was surprised he was the lone bartender. I got hummus and ceviche from their happy hour menu. Hummus was alright: I've had better at Cava and fast casual mediterranean restos. Ceviche didn't know what it wanted to be: I mean, I wasn't expecting something as nice as what I'd get at an authentic Peruvian resto, but there was just so much food I was biting in my mouth with very little fish or that bursting ceviche juicy flavor one would expect. And that set the tone for the rest of my meal. I thought having their pork shank for my entree would be a safe bet. The pork meat was surprisingly tough to chew. Even the part that wraps around and falls off of the bone wasn't all too soft/tender either. I would be remiss if I did not sing praises for their cheese grits: it was delish and certainly met the southern grits standards! A few years ago the tuna was chopped and mango salsa used was off the chain. Busser came and took our tuna nacho main plate but did not take used app plates. Same busser delivered our main dishes but failed to place the plates in front of us .....ODD. THE GROUPER SPECIAL good but dry, gnocchi not hot. Halibut good but brocolini stems tough, not eatable. My husband and I ate here for their special Valentine's Day event. It was absolutely amazing! The steak was one of the best I've ever eaten, & my husband had the redfish. I took a couple of bites, & it was magnificent! They served a different pour of wine pairings with each course, which was so nice! The service was spot on as well! The ambiance was intimate and romantic, but that might have been the fact that it was Valentine's Day. It seemed like the bar scene could be quite fun & lively while keeping it classy. I've had my fair share of "boards" that felt like they were assembled by someone rummaging through their fridge 10 minutes before guests arrived, hello, two sad slices of salami, a hunk of cheddar, and some grapes that have seen things. Let's be real: in DFW, too many boards resemble a child's Lunchable dressed up for prom... with a price tag that makes you question all your life choices. But then Little Rock happened. This board? Loved dining at Allsopp & Chapple! Just FYI it is on the pricier side but I found it to be well worth it. I ordered the salmon with mushroom bread pudding and asparagus. The salmon was very well cooked with a bit of crisp on it. The mushroom bread pudding was soft and flavorful. The asparagus were well cooked and a lovely balance to the meal. We all shared the lemon custard dessert and loved it! It was a great mixture of tart and sweet. The others at my table ordered the alpine chicken and redfish. They both stated they really enjoyed their meals. Our server was attentive, kind, and checked on us often. It is a nice calmer atmosphere at the restaurant in the middle of downtown. I was extremely excited to bring my husband here to celebrate his birthday with friends over whiskey and steak. However this meal left me feeling frustrated and unsatisfied with how his birthday went. I will separate the review between service and food. The food was a solid 4, 4.5. The steaks and filets were cooked to our order. We really enjoyed the sides, especially the potatoes. The redfish that was recommended was a little bit salty, And the lobster Mac and cheese sounded nice but ended up tasting a little bit more Mayo than cheese. But all in all a decent food experience. It was the service that led me to be so frustrated. At first the waitress greets us with a bunch of pep and enthusiasm. But then: 1) she tells us that tomahawk is available, so we order it. Ten min later she comes back and says it's no longer available. Bummed, we ordered the other special she recommended which was the elk. She couldn't tell us how many ounces it was so she guessed 11oz. When it came out it was clearly around 8oz. While 3 oz may not seem like a huge difference, we were doing family style so we wanted everyone to be able to have eaten enough. Please know the menu that is being offered. 2) We ordered whiskeys and asked which smoke would pair best with the flavors we chose, and honestly you could tell she had no idea. Instead of asking the bartender, she clearly just picked the first option on the menu. After two rounds of whisky we order a bottle of wine, and THEN she asks to see our IDs. It felt a little silly. 3) after the drinks, the steaks came out first, and 15 minutes pass. She asks us "is everything tasting delicious?" And I go yes, but the redfish and mac and cheese are coming right? And she says of course and leaves. Another 20 min passes by and she brings the fish but just ordinary Mac and cheese when we had specifically ordered the lobster mac and cheese at the beginning. It was clear that she forgot the order, only to be reminded when I asked when it would come, but bc I didn't specify the lobster she just sent out what she heard from me during my reminder, which was seemingly the regular Mac n cheese. I asked her if she forgot our order and she did not admit it, and gave excuses that did not make sense. It made me feel extremely frustrated as we were sitting there still hungry waiting for the rest of the food to arrive and when it finally did it was the wrong order. She eventually offered to take off the price of the lobster mac n cheese, but the dinner was already a failure. We didn't receive an apology from a manager. 4) I could be being dramatic but if I'm spending over $500 in one of Little Rock's best restaurants I expected better than the service that we received. read more

Hands down, our best meal on our week long trip to Arkansas. From when we arrived to leaving we were treated like valued guests (and if we lived here, we'd be regulars). My only complaint is they always have their wine events during the week so I can never make it because of work. The food is always fantastic. The cocktails are amazing and the wine is great. I enjoy the wine pairing. Service is first class. You MUST make reservations. It's a fancy spot that you can get dressed up for. Parking can be a pain depending on when you go. I feel like I'm dining in a trendy Manhattan upscale restaurant and am always delivered excellent service from the staff. The chefs are very very talented at making memorable meals and desserts. Their wine pairing events are wonderful, on par with wine events you'd attend in any wine producing region of the US. We even celebrated our wedding dinner at Allsopp and Chapple, heading over there from the courthouse, and will continue to enjoy dining there as long as we are in Little Rock. The menu is awesome, besides they have two of my favorite dessert options crème brûlée and bread pudding! The lamb lollipops were seasoned to perfection. The steak was also seasoned to perfection and cooked to requested temperature. The bread pudding was amazing and had no raisins. The timeliness of service was on point. I really appreciate impeccable timing between appetizers and main entrees. I tried the "on stranger tides" cocktail and it was very different yet refreshing however I would try something more in my wheelhouse next time. This restaurant is under new ownership and new name with new chefs. Complements to the chef for sure. The GM made a visit and asked how was everything and to be fair the risotto and steak was delicious but the spinach was a tad salty... no deal breaker. We went for our first time for our Anniversary dinner. We were greeted by the manager Dillon Garcia as we walked in. He was super friendly as he escorted us to our table. Our waiter was Randy and he was excellent. Those two could work at any fine dining establishment in the world. The food was amazing. We started with the tuna nachos. While visiting AR for a few days I had one night dining alone before my friend flew in to meet me. The ambiance and menu looked great so I decided to make a res. She also said they don't take reservations for 1. ‍ Most of the bar seats were open so I sat there. What was going to be a quick meal turned out to be a 2.5 hr dinner. I took my time eating and started gabbing with the bartenders in between my bites and their mixing of drinks. I took my time eating, so much so, the restaurant basically ended their service for the night and the chefs came out for a breather. I sat and chatted with them too! I asked questions about the restaurant, the food, the local area and about Arkansas. Your staff is outstanding and made me, an out of place Asian woman from Hawaii and California, feel incredibly comfortable. Let's talk food. I love food. I wanted the full experience so I ordered a complete meal, I got the soup of the day, Split Pea w/ bacon, dinner, the Redfish, and dessert, lemon curd with sugar cookie crumble. The split pea soup was great, the smoky bacon was soft and crumbled. It heightened the soup and may have been better than if they had used ham. The Redfish is a staple in this restaurant. There was a more than ample piece (hmmm, actually, I think there were 2 filets) of Redfish (which I learned is red snapper). There was okra cut into bite size piece, breaded and deep fried. It was perfect, the breading cut down on the sliminess of the okra. The fish was seasoned well and the grits and the Pontchartrain sauce and cheesy grits stole the show. My one complaint of the night comes here, the snapper (which is one of my favorite fish) was a little overdone for my liking. I was going to try the bread pudding but the bartender said the serving would probably be enough for 3-4 people. I opted for the lemon curd w/ sugar cookie crumble. This was a perfect ending to my meal. The curd was light and refreshing. The sugar cookie covered with the lemon curd was SO good! The sugar cookie had a great texture! Coming from Los Angeles, parking seemed very easy. I found street parking quickly and maybe walked a quarter of a block to the restaurant that I could see from the parking spot. read more

Cajun inspired cooking in an old Arkansas book store, Allsopp & Chapple is a culinary hit with a literary twist. Be prepared for a thick novel; the portions are huge. A professional and well dressed staff will greet you as you go in. If it is Saturday, you better have a reservation or be ready to sit at the bar. The menu reads like a good short story. The cocktails are named after great books. I had the Art of War named after the Chinese strategist Sun Tzu's great classic. Like the book, it had a classic twist of ingredients--cognac, liqueur, and coconut. For my meal, I had two appetizers--a bowl of the Soup of the Day, Ribeye Chili, and the Caesar Salad with Anchovies. The chili was thick and hearty with no shortage of ribeye. The salad was crisp and crunchy. For dessert I had the Bread Pudding. The flavor varies by week, and this week was double chocolate. It was like a giant brownie on steroids. After satisfying my mind and body, I quietly exited the former book store. read more

Bread with butter and pesto, tasted fresh. Main entree's weren't my fav. I had the Red fish dish, and the sauce tasted like a jar of Asian sweet and sour sauce whisked up with Texas Pete. It ruined a lovely filet of fish. The fried okra came out of a bag I'm sure, frozen... I had hoped it would have been freshly battered, on a menus such as this. Husband had the lobster Mac, it was just "ok". However the bread pudding was off the chain, and I typically don't care for it much! I had ordered a side of scallops, and they were not cooked through thoroughly. They did take it off the bill, so that was appreciated. Overall, staff was fantastic, kitchen was hit or miss. We enjoyed an early evening meal and a few drinks here recently to celebrate a special event, as I had indicated when making the Open Table reservation. We were even asked as much by the hostess as well as our server, so I guess I expected more than a nod to their question when we answered affirmatively. The interior is beautiful. The wine list was nicely varied, even by the glass. Petit Verdot is a rare and wonderful find! My companion enjoyed the nicely balanced cocktails made by the bartender. He really knew his art. Our server was kind and bubbly, but she seemed inexperienced. She asked if we'd like a drink, but didn't know if it was "Happy Hour" (it was), and did not know not what, if any offerings might be included during that timeframe. We enjoyed the $9 Bread Service with pesto as we sipped and went through the menu. My companion settled on the soup-of-the-day, a delicious cup of creamy broccoli cheddar with a Romaine salad. I found the half order of the House salad fresh and flavorful, especially with the goat cheese crumbles. We both ordered Airline Chicken entrees served with Brussels Sprouts, Sweet Potatoes topped with dark (Bourbon?) glazed bacon. It came nicely plated. The vegetables were the best aspect of the entree: tasty and textured. I found my chicken surprisingly dry though, so I won't recommend it. We finished with a cup of hot, fresh, dark roast coffee ($4.50pp). When our server presented the bill, she mumbled something about a beverage being "comp'ed". Should've gotten it as my main. I got the Gouda Mac with chicken added. Overall not as flavorful or cheesy as I was hoping for and I wasn't a fan of the traditional Mac and cheese noodles, but that's obviously a personal choice. Cocktails (a classic dirty martini, and the Animal Farm from the literature-inspired drink list) were perfectly made. The tuna nachos came out quickly and were divine, as was the soup of the day, a corn and potato chowder. My House salad with shrimp was delicious, especially the cherry balsamic dressing - but the real star of the show was the redfish (which my husband ordered and I kept stealing).
