The hostess was so pleasant and seated us away from a table of movers and shakers from up the street so we could enjoy the quieter ambiance. Our server, Trinity shared what a good match the flavors of Gumbo would be with an accompaniment of Hot honey butter glazed sweet potato cornbread would be. Yep, it was!! Highly recommended. Visiting town and we went to this place for dinner off a recommendation from coworkers. Boy what an unfortunate mistake that was smh. The hostess wasn't particularly warm and friendly, and the place was freezing cold. I got the salmon and it smelled and tasted "off." To see if I was overreacting, I took another bite and no, I wasn't. The server only returned when everyone else was about done eating before she discovered I barely touched my plate. Pimiento cheese appetizer was fire the crackers it comes with I think is also made of cheese. Cornbread was an interesting creative take on the classic with some ?hot honey drizzled on top but it was dry. My main I personally did not love I got the tomato pasta but it had a strange not-real tomato taste and also they didn't have chilli flakes?? How you gonna serve pasta and not have chilli flakes idk. Hubby and I have stayed at the Capital Hotel several times over the past two years. We always eat at the on site restaurant for dinner, the Capital Grill, simply because we enjoy not having to leave the hotel at night. But sadly, as much as we love this hotel....the service, the rooms, the warm and personable staff...the restaurant is not on the same par (hotel: 4.8 stars; restaurant 3.5 at best). Without going into too much detail, the food is just mediocre in preparation and presentation. The Caesar salad is a deep bowl filled with chopped romaine, a little dressing mixed in, with shaved cheese and croutons on top (that tasted like they came out of a box). I added shrimp to the dish, and there were exactly four. I had an extra dirty martini and there is always something "off" about it. I'm just not able to put my finger on it. I'm specific about the vodka I want so the only thing I can think is that it is the olive brine they use. Some can be quite nasty and much too salty. My husband enjoyed his burger and fries but nothing ore. And the banana pudding did not taste like banana at all until you reached the bottom of the tiny mason jar it was in. Finally, the waitress was ok but I thought a tad dismissive. The hostess on the other hand was a doll! All in all, we wish the hotel would find a new chef to helm this place. It does not do justice to the hotel. By the way, the breakfast/brunch restaurant across the Lobby is always wonderful. read more

We have been here a few times over the years and in the past, it has been good. Tonight it was not. I ordered a 34 dollar chicken dish and it tasted like a frozen chicken breast, not a superior restaurant dish. In addition, I substituted some french fries for a vegetable and instead of doing the substitution they charged me an extra eight dollars for the french fries. My tab was $70 for a chicken Caesar salad, a house gin and tonic and a chocolate martini. Rarely have I had a perfect meal, but such was the case here. Started with a well-mixed cocktail, followed by delicious cream of asparagus soup. Main dish of Shrimp and Grits. Shrimp were cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the dish had a nice balance of grits, sausage and sauce. Ended with a pumpkin custard and cream dessert. Outstanding! Great server also! read more

Pretentious. Oblivious. Overpriced. Stopped for lunch while in town for business. The lobster bisque was lukewarm and sour. The brisket sandwich was chewey and seemed old. Both texture and visual were very gross. Could not finish. Service was acceptable and ambiance was nice. That's about it. Is this all it takes to get you 4 stars in Little Rock? I would choose fast food over this establishment any day, and I will next time I'm in town. read more

An upscale bar and grill restaurant located in the 5-star Capital Hotel. They do accept walk-in non-hotel guests. Service was attentive and friendly, but noise level could be very high, especially if there is a bunch of people in suits and office dresses who just got off work from nearby downtown. Ordered a slider appetizer and the braised short rib entree with broccolini on the side. Slider appetizer: the portion is quite large for a slider, 2-3 bites to finish one, enough as an entree for some people. Sliders were done excellently, all the meat were hot and juicy, seasoning was perfect, buns not too soggy. A beautiful appetizer for meat lover. Braised short ribs: boneless short rib meat. The portion was said to be 6oz, but I suspect it was actually 8-10 oz, as the meat packed quite some size and bite. The doneness was a bit over for my taste, a bit too dry, but seasoning was good, the sauce elevated the beefy taste, and the surface was crispy. Mashed potato and sweet carrots went well with the sauce. The biggest miss was the broccolini. I don't mind a bit soft, but the broccolini tonight was bland and soggy with the texture of marsh mallow. The waiter was kind enough to have taken that off my bill. I would rather have more sweet carrots than the unpleasant broccolini. Overall: I would say 3.5-4 stars. A bit pricey given the fact that it is a 5-star-hotel attachment. A few misses (including a big one) with the food, but some pleasant dishes as well. Service was enjoyable. read more

When we arrived, Mollie, was kind enough to seat us at the perfect table. Our server, Aley, was incredibly attentive and offered fantastic service. She recommended the Chef's special that night, jambalaya, and we chose a special bottle of wine to go with our meal. The jambalaya was delicious, one of the best we have ever had! During the evening, both Aley and Mollie came by to wish us a happy anniversary. After our meal, the next thing we know, Aley is arriving at our table with a mini key lime pie adorned with berries, whip cream and a beautifully stenciled "Happy Anniversary" on the plate! What a wonderful surprise to top off a magical evening.....Actually we had one more surprise coming, the young couple next to us, paid for our bottle of wine. They had already left the restaurant, so there was no way to thank them. In case they happen to read this, we wanted to tell them that they truly touched our hearts and we are so grateful. My lovely bride and I stayed at the Capital Hotel over the weekend for the solar eclipse. After a long day of walking through Little Rock museums, we needed to eat dinner nearby. The Capital Bar and Grill turned out to be a good call. I ordered the ribeye steak, served with broccolini and garlic fries. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, and the broccolini were a good complement. The garlic fries were just so-so. My lovely bride quickly devoured the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. I didn't like the onion rings because they were slightly greasy, but she didn't mind, dipping them in a spicy mayo sauce. We finished off our meal by sharing the banana pudding, which was stellar. Excellent service, and highly recommended. read more

The Capital Bar and Grill has been a favorite restaurant of mine my entire adult life, but our experience last night ruined it for me forever. I will not ever be eating there again. We went for an adult family Christmas dinner, there were 8 of us. We were up charged on drinks, that we did not request. My only thought for this was to run our bills up higher. When we were given our ticket it was given as 1 total ticket, which we politely asked to have it split. We were told that was not a possibility, which was a lie. Every other table had separate checks, when talking about this to the manager, we were told it could be split by couple. After 20 minutes of waiting, they brought the checks just split evenly 4 ways. When asked why it wasn't done the way we asked for it, they said it wasn't possible. This has never been a problem in the past before. When the assistant manager dint want to deal with us anymore, she threw Our tickets at my mother's spot, hitting her with them. Which is appalling and embarrassing for this "manager" to behave this way. Needless to say, after a beautiful evening with family this ruined it. We spent $1,100 on our meal and drinks. To be treated this way for a simple request is unacceptable. read more

To be completely honest, we dined here only because most everything else was closed for dinner on the 4th of July. I'm so glad that they were open and we ended up here! Our dinner was absolutely fabulous! We started with the burrata salad and the chopped salad - all ingredients very fresh and the portions were very, very generous. We also enjoyed the burger although the fries could have been crispier, short rib lasagna while very good would probably try something different next time and the salmon - oh my goodness I'd go back just for that! It was cooked perfectly and served with lemon orzo, fresh peas and arugula. The server was attentive. The service was a bit slow and it appeared they were short staffed (who isn't these days?!) but we were not in a hurry and didn't mind one bit. We'll be back! read more

Totally disappointed post-covid reopening. :( Have been in twice now - once for lunch right after they opened. The salad I had was unimpressive and the service, either overwhelmed or just inattentive. Came for drinks and a snack on a Tuesday evening for a celebratory occasion. Had a hard time even getting seated...though there were three open tables. Once we sat ourselves at the bar, the bartender greeted us but did not put down napkins. Nor did he wipe away the smears from the prior clients who sat where we did. My drink was fine but nothing special. Service continued to be lackluster. Then when the food came - we ordered a wedge salad which cost $12, which was so unimpressive (see photo)...plus, no blue cheese. Hmm. And the vinaigrette dressing I had ordered was so sour, my eyes started watering. We sent it back. Then it showed up on our bill anyway and had to be amended. Is anyone paying attention? Lastly, we noticed that a juice had sprayed all over the clean straws in front of us...seriously? Supposedly there is a new management company? Sadly, two experiences in the bar since they reopened and we will NOT be back. At least until something improves. read more

I went here on New Year's eve with my mom. Everything was excellent. Our server was amazing and made sure we had everything we needed and was very friendly. We got a bottle of champagne which was good and presented/served well. My mom got a mule which she said wasn't very flavorful and a martini which was good. I got a cocktail with absinthe which was very good but I can't remember the name. For food, we shared the caesar salad as an appetizer which was very good. I got the beef stroganoff as my entree which was very good. My mom got the rib eye steak (I think) which she said was very good. Not actually service animal friendly. I made a reservation asking for the best available table. We were dining with a college friend of my partner whom I was meeting for the first time. They had not seen each other in years. We were only driving through town. I couldn't remember when I had been in Little Rock last. When I entered the restaurant with my service animal to be seated, the hostess escorted me all the way to the back, presumably to be out of the way. Was it the best available table? The restaurant was not full. Luckily the other folks in my party had already been seated at a much better location. Then, to add insult to injury, a male maitre d presumably followed me on my way out. 'Excuse me,' he said. 'Could I have a word with you?' ''We're happy to accommodate service animals. But please do not let your dog eat from the plate. I had to throw it out.' he chided. I simply said sure and laughed it off. Yet I wonder if I had a deadly virus if they would throw my plate out as well. I also had a rather large animal with me. If it was a chihuahua, would there have been an equal fuss? I'm Asian too and can't help but wonder if it was also a factor in the service overall. Crazy rich Asians. read more

Katherine was a great server. She was prompt and professional. We enjoyed the ribeye with parmesan fries, orange soda collards, and a side salad. The salad had a vinaigrette that is worth mentioning. Vinaigrettes usually miss the mark with me and are overly acidic or pungent. This was balanced, light, and delicious. The steak was seared perfectly, and very flavorful. I had the Wedge Salad and the Shrimp and Grits. Both were very good. Cool vibe with the decor of a small, old hotel that was a great place to chill for a drink and dinner.
