So glad we tried Plumas Pines this last weekend for Memorial Day. The weather was great, the food…read morewas fresh, service was attentive and the pine aids were frosty and flowing! Can't beat the views also from the deck with one of the few restaurants on Lake Almanor. I had the large Caesar salad and added grilled shrimp and the shrimp were very good size and flavorful and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich, and we topped them off with a few Pine aids, they're beautifully colored frosty drink. Can't wait to be back.

She was helping others so we understood that part. Then a group of 6 people showed up just standing at the bar. When the Bartender asked which one of us were next I said us but the gal who I guess is a regular piped up and said they were. The Bartender new darn well we were there before them. So after waiting a half hour for 2 drinks neither of us liked we got seated outside. View was fantastic. Waitress got us our menus after sitting there a bit. She was nice enough. Food was ok. Not great not horrible. Never saw our waitress again until she brought us our bill. Then checked to see if we've paid 4 times in 10 minutes. 2 and a half hours total. Would only go back for the view.

It's now called Christy's and today's experience was awful. We arrived a little after 10 and were seated out back right away and brought menus and water. Almost 30 minutes go by as we're watching the two servers serve, seat and take orders from people - everyone except us. Once our order was finally taken, we learn they're out of bacon and sausage which is an option for one of our meals (canadian bacon and chorizo were available but we don't like either so not an option for us). While that was a bummer, at least our order was taken. Another 20+ minutes go by, and there is now another table seated just near us and the woman who seated us is bringing them drinks and menus and takes their order within a few minutes of them being seated. We hear her telling them about the special which we weren't told about. As she was walking away from them, I asked her if our server was her or the man who eventually took our order and she told me "whoever is available" is our server. I'm not sure if the person in charge is aware of the poor customer service here but a couple of other tables were showing signs of frustration, too. After waiting for another 20'ish minutes and still no food, we let our servers (?) know we decided to leave and we had a picnic at the lake with stuff we brought. Very enjoyable - I highly recommend it. On our way out, I saw the server tell the kitchen we left and everyone looking surprised. A woman was looking at me so I asked if there was someone available to listen about why we're leaving and a different woman stepped forward and listened. She offered to make it right, we told her we'd already been here almost an hour with no food so it's too late for us, but we thanked her for listening and left. We don't come this way often and I don't think we'd try again now that it's a new owner. All that said, the patio is a lovely spot for a meal with a view.

At that point, hunger was making major life decisions for us, and this place definitely hit the spot. We ordered the Cobb salad, a cheeseburger, and a milkshake. Everything tasted good. Nothing dramatically life-changing or worthy of a dramatic food documentary narration, but solid, satisfying comfort food when you really need it. The milkshake was actually very good, and honestly part of the charm was watching the staff figure out the wonderfully ancient milkshake machine. It felt a little like witnessing a friendly negotiation between modern humans and a relic from a 1957 diner. Somehow, though, the machine delivered. It also seemed like there may have been new owners or at least people still settling into things. Communication was occasionally a little challenging, but everyone was trying, and the whole interaction ended up feeling more charming and humorous than frustrating. Overall, this is a simple roadside café that serves comforting food, good milkshakes, and a little small-town personality along the way. Sometimes, after hours on mountain roads, that is exactly what you need.
