We arrived and were promptly seated. My husband and I ordered the halibut. My ceasar salad and my husband's soup was made well, it was lentil and sausage. Serving was generous and tasty. The fish was presented with grilled asparagus and cauliflower rice. The halibut was a sizable portion, nicely prepared. It tasted very fresh. We did not have to wait long for our order to be served. Been coming here for years and it rarely disappoints. We sat at the bar this time, and the bartender was great! Even with how busy it was, she was attentive and friendly. We shared the pork belly and the beets with burrata to start. The grilled beets with sea salt were delicious, and paired perfectly with the creamy burrata. For our main, we split the ribeye, which was cooked a perfect medium rare. We will continue to come back when in Almanor. One suggestion, bring back the burger on the menu! read more

This was a very charming restaurant across the street from the the lake. Service was friendly amd courteous. The bar tender was warm and friendly. We had the following dishes: Shrimp Scampi- True to flavor, fresh ingredients and the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente. The crab cakes was cooked perfectly. We didn't have a reservation on a Sunday at 5:30, and they said it would be a 20 minute wait cuz they just seated a handful of tables. So we decided to eat at the bar. The bartender gal was really nice and we got served pretty quickly. All of the food was delicious and the portions were good sized. What a gem of a restaurant! Wait staff (Angie) was excellent!; not just regarding the menu choices, but as a local, was very warm, generous and personable. Now to the food: as a spouse to a pescatarian, it is often difficult to find great crabcakes and the halibut was tender and flaky. The atmosphere is open and warm, with options for outside too. As to the price point, it is quite reasonable. We had cocktails and wine and beer( they have a N/A available) and desert; and it still didn't break the bank. Definitely will return! read more

We arrived on a Wednesday at 7:15pm, they close at 8:30. We were told they were too busy. Restaurant was not even half full.We wanted to love this place since it was across the street from our Airbnb. When we told them we were staying across the street the was response was a super rude "good for you". We asked if we could order something to go. They finally agreed to make a salad. Bottom line, the staff was rude, and we definitely will not be going back and spending our money there. read more

She kept repeating she had to seat the people that were "on time" first. The place wasn't even full, there were several open tables. We've been dining at the Red Onion for many years now. In fact we use to go their location when they were in Chester. A true mom and pops business as most nights you see the owners, a husband and wife, working behind the scenes. The food is always tasty, fresh and unique. The service is always good too even when they are really busy. Being able to sit across from the lake outdoors on their patio while eating dinner makes for some epic views while the sun goes down. read more

Clearly the best restaurant we tried in this area, and the most expensive. Chicken Marsala: 4/5. The sauce has a nice flavor, and both the chicken and noodles were cooked just right, so I found this dish very enjoyable. The only criticism I have is that I could not taste any of the marsala in the dish. This is unfortunate as it really complements the chicken. read more

Went there this last weekend for a late dinner after driving up to Lake Almanor for a girls weekend. Their last seating was 8pm but we made it in plenty of time, and I'm so glad we did. This family ran restaurant had the nicest staff who were all very attentive too our drink and food orders. We had lemon drops to drink from the bar and a variety of food items, the beet salad (our favorite dish), mushroom ravioli, shrimp pesto pasta and the beef stew with gnocchi. Being Italian all of these items were familiar but they all had a different flair and flavor based on the owners family heritage and were excellent. The pesto pasta with shrimp was a little oily but had great flavor and nice sized shrimp, all of the other dishes were great. The restaurant and outdoor area are lit with small outdoor lights and cabin type lanterns around as well flickering. So glad we got to try something new and to have a great restaurant when we visit our lake home. read more

The chef is constantly creating delicious new menu specials as well as offering fantastic Fish and Chips, Steaks, Chops and a wide variety of dishes. Reservations are highly recommended because if you haven't got a reservation, you'll probably be sent away. As an appetizer I recommend the fried calamari. It's fabulous. I really, really wanted to love this place. We were staying on the lake, and I made a reservation for our group of 8 several weeks prior. Upon arriving, the hostess said we could not be seated until our whole party had arrived. 7 of us were in the lobby including my elderly parents. I had to reiterate that my husband was there, literally parking the car, and only then were we seated. I will say, the setting and ambience were lovely out on the patio. Sadly, that was the best thing that I can say about the experience. Our waitress made a lot of fun jokes but lacked the ability to come out and apologize for the long waits for food and drinks. We had to ask for refills and then it took her 30 minutes longer to bring them, and we were already finished with our meal. I had asked her after waiting 20 minutes if I could please cancel my wine refill, and she said no, the order was placed. Period. My mom got a refill she didn't ask for. All meat dishes were over cooked. I specifically asked for no vinegarette as I am allergic, and my came with it. My mom had to wait 30 minutes for extra sauce. After all of that, the check did not come for another 30 minutes. All together 2.5 hours there and were were not lingering, that was literally how long it took. As you can imagine my tip was not generous. Honestly I was struggling just to leave one at all. I get into our car and realize that I left my phone on the table, because I was at that point tired and just wanted to leave. My husband went to the table, where our waitress was reading the tip, and when my husband said i left the phone, she literally confronted him on the low tip, and then said "well that's tough luck, isn't it". (About the phone). Luckily I did find my phone. I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars out of hope that this just a bad night for staff. No pictures because the food was not photo worthy. I came here with my husband for dinner and we had a good experience! We were seated pretty quickly and everything in the restaurant seemed clean. They have a nice outside patio area, so we opted to sit outside. Our server was a visiting student from abroad and was working there for the summer. She did a fantastic job and spoke perfect English! She was very sweet and very attentive. They served bread rolls in the beginning of the meal and these were a pretty standard bread roll. My husband and I started with the "Beer-battered asparagus tempura." This was pretty good and surprisingly wasn't too oily. For my dinner, I had the pub cheeseburger with sharp cheddar, tomato, cherry-wood smoked bacon, and avocado. I got their soup of the day for my side, which was a potato-based soup. The burger was very good! It was prepared perfectly and had great flavor. The soup was a bit spicier than I thought it would be and was decent. For dessert, we split the chocolate cake. This was delicious! It was so chocolatey, but not too rich. Overall, good food, great service, decent prices, and great location! I would definitely be back. read more

Terrible service from front desk. Had reservation when opened at 5pm. The owner, Phillip, was up front and irritated that we wanted inside. He said everyone has a reservation and he was having a very bad day already. Only (3) other parties at restaurant. We decided to take the food to go and spent over $100. We did not want to inconvenience the owner with being there. We had been there a half a dozen times before without reservations and never had such a negative experience. We are local and will let everyone know. Food was subpar compared to the other times eating there. I guess it must be geared to the tourists that want to run up a big bar tab. Dined on New Years Eve with a limited menu offering and have to say everything was delicious. Rib Eye Steak was very good and cooked perfectly. The ravioli was fantastic, Roasted beet and burrata was the best! Now for service, our reservation time was exact, the hostess that greeted us was friendly and the staff did an exceptional job with drinks and serving time.
