We had gone to Lassen Volcanic National Park and found this restaurant in Chester. There were lots of tables- thankfully not full on a weeknight. Clean and decorated nicely. The wait staff were super friendly and attentive. Today on top of everything. The food came out quickly and was so tasty. We were stuffed when we left. We called in our order this afternoon and the staff at Mi Casita went above and beyond to make sure our teams were fed in a timely and hospitable manner! Wow! Very few choices to eat in Chester CA, near Lake Almanor. We found a gem in Mi Casita. The food is awesome. Really good and Flavorful! The service was decent- it took awhile to get water and our order- but once it got rolling--wow- incredible. Never an empty glass or chip and salsa Bowl. Not safe for Gluten Free!! It's a cute little place and they were friendly. Everyone except us enjoyed their meals, hence the single star. My husband who has Celiac and I decided to share an order of chicken fajitas. I informed the waitress that my husband has to be gluten free. When our food was delivered, the fajitas had some sort of glaze on them, so I stopped another waitress who was nearby and asked what it was. She informed me that is it TERIYAKI!! First, WTF is teriyaki sauce doing in a Mexican restaurant?? Second, it's darn sure not gluten free. I told her that my husband cannot eat that and her response was that the menu stated it had teriyaki sauce so they weren't going to do anything to make it right. I will admit I didn't read the menu thoroughly, but I did tell our waitress that our food needed to be gluten free and she acknowledged me. She also spoke perfect English so I know it was not a communication issue. So we paid $30 for a plate of fajitas and my husband had to eat two tortillas filled with rice and beans for lunch. Teriyaki on fajitas is a first for me.... I'll be sure to read the menu every place I go now because of this experience. Ugh. read more

Lake life is great! Keep that in mind. Our weekend getaway to Lake Almanor was amazing...the lake is great! Mind you, it's a small town so I really wasn't there to dine and be captivated by cuisine. For starters, the chips and salsa were ok...chips were thick and not really fresh tasting, and the salsa tasted like it came from a Pace jar. That's ok...the lake is great! Margaritas? Yes please! Wait...is there alcohol in this pitcher? They were very mild, and no, I wasn't expecting top shelf, but something with a little more zing would have been nice. My shredded chicken enchilada (wet) was ok, and I wish it was better than that, but hey, the lake was great! The service was ok as well, and I know that seems to be the theme for this review and I truly wish I could give it a better rating, but to be fair, it was truly just that. If you are just looking to replenish the food intake then yes, it's just fine, but don't expect anything more than that. Will I be back? I'm sure I will, as long as the lake is still there! I've been three times and had bad service every time.....the waitress takes your order, she brings drinks then the food......you will not see her again. She goes in the back and every time I've had to go looking for her just to pay. Basic Mexican food ambiance as the other small Mexican eateries I've been to. This is one of the worst Mexican restaurant establishment that I have ever gone to. I live in Reno Nevada I come to Chester to see my sister we've eaten there twice. The first time was OK so we went back again the salsa sucked you could tell it came out of a can. It was all chunks of tomatoes, Riano was just horrified you don't use yellow cheese and a chili Riano the service was really bad. The lady there just was not pleasant and then we heard her go in the back in the kitchen talking about me and my sister and the Cook in the dishwasher came out with staring at usvery uncomfortable very bad service very bad establishment I've eaten in Reno and Carson City at these places restaurants and they were really good. Most people don't know about this but the ortega chile cheeseburger at Mi Casita is objectively the best burger in Chester. Their taco salad is also highly recommended by townies. This is Americanized Mexican food adapted to local tastes so don't go in there with the wrong expectations and you will do just fine! read more

My expectations must have been too high. My dad, brother, and I came to pick up some dinner after a day at Lassen. We ordered the Chile Relleno Ranchero, Shrimp in Garlic sauce, Chicken Fajitas, and Fiesta Chicken Salad. We ordered with the server who was attentive and kind and even offered us chips and salsa as we waited for our food to be prepared. The wait was to be 20 minutes which was to be expected. All but the chicken salad came with beans and rice. The rice was disappointing - honestly one of my favorite parts of any Mexican dish. It was dry, lacked flavor, and was clumpy. The beans were good. The shrimp were so dry. I can understand that there isn't access to fresh shrimp around here but even freezer shrimp shouldn't be cooked beyond repair like this. The Chile Relleno was weirdly greasy and watery at the same time. (The garlic sauce the shrimp came in faced this problem as well). The chicken fajitas dish was literally the Fiesta Chicken salad but in a flour tortilla. In both dishes, the chicken was dry and too salty. Best part of it all, each of these dishes ranged from $12-14. No complaints at all on the service, but man the food was so mediocre. Highly recommend going somewhere else. read more

I came in with a party of 14. It was 35 degrees outside and I asked for a cup of coffee. There was none made and the waitress refused to make a pot. It was one of 2 places open, otherwise I would have left. My grandson ordered a corndog, 9 bucks and it was a deep-fried foster farms chicken corndog. I ordered carne asada tacos, couldn't eat more than a couple bites, dried out tasteless meat. My wife ordered a chicken fiesta salad and it too was dried out meat, hard to swallow. We won't be back. The outside setting was really nice, the waitress was also pleasant. The food had NO FLAVOR. I normally don't use salt but I had to definitely ask the waitress for some salt. The meat rice and beans even the salsa had no flavor!! The prices are very high!!!! 5.50 for 1 beer!! For my husband and I the total was over 50.00!! read more

When I asked about the guacamole our server said they were out... not 2 mins later a different server brought a large serving to the table behind us. *husbands fish tacos were horrible and fish was burnt. *outside seating only (which is to be expected during this time) but THE FLYS WERE SO SO BAD that you couldn't even try to "enjoy" your meal. *had to ask a server (ours was gone) for a check. And last but not least I'm writing this review approx 2 hrs after our meal and I am now sick. Everything tastes like it came out of a can. Other Mexican restaurants chop fresh tomatoes, onions and peppers for the salsa but this place has salsa that tastes like stewed tomatoes. Maybe because it is all the way at the other end of Chester from things like the Holiday Market etc. that we frequent. So last Saturday we were looking for something different and gave this place a try. Service was fast and friendly and they check on us several times. It was lunch time and we had things to do so did not partake of the margaritas so cannot report on those but maybe next time. Here is what you need to know about this place. The portions are huge! So when you order that chile Colorado burrito a la carte thinking you are going to keep the portion small don't be fooled. My burrito was HUGE and easily made two meals (my friend scarfed the remaining portion down the following day so I would say it was a hit for both of us). The menu had a lot of variety to choose from. It was odd that they did not give chips and salsa. First Mexican restaurant that I can remember that didn't. But will still come back here. We lived in the little town of Chester over 20 years ago and often went to Mi Casita for their amazing chicken chimichangas. We have been back a few times over the years and we were hoping and praying they had survived all the troubles Covid brought with it and they have! Chimichangas are still the best EVER! It is very Tex Mex style. Not authentic. Servers are nice. The margarita is really a wine in ice. I love Mexican food but this does not cut it& they are little pricey for what the produce. But again I understand since they are the only Mexican cuisine in town. read more
