My teens had a great time learning to surf on the Kihei shores with Aloha Ocean Adventures. My 2 teens had 2 other teens join them along with the instructor, an assistant and a photographer. The teens were instructed on land then guided out into the surf. All four were able to stand up and control their boards fairly quickly so they got a lot of opportunities to ride the waves in and of course to fall off! Great experience overall. read more

This is THE company for surf lessons. We feel so blessed to have had the experience we did with Keoki as our instructor. My husband and three children (ages 12, 8, and 5) took a 2 hour surf lesson, and they were in the water AND up on their boards within 15-20 minutes of the beginning of the lesson. The entire time they were in the water. He is great with children and even got in on some sibling rivalry with coordinated rides to see who could ride the wave in the longest. My kids say this was the best part of our stay in Maui. Keoki imparted some native Hawaiian education and wisdom as well, and he truly showed us what it means to live with aloha. He was so kind and genuine, and at the conclusion of the lesson even offered to allow us to contact him with any questions or recommendations for the remainder of our stay in Hawaii. I do recommend booking directly with their company, or if you must book thru third party be sure to reach out to their company directly, as they like to touch base about some specifics prior to the day of the lessons! Took 2 days of lessons with my family of 4. Keoki, Louis, and David the photographer were great! It was the highlight of our trip! They were great teachers with great vibes and helped us all have an amazingly enjoyable and successful first surfing experience. These Hawaii guys are awesome. Personalized and culturally based local providers. They taught my 7year old daughter how to surf and she was up within 15 minutes of a 2 hour personalized private lesson. She spent the next 1.5 hours having a great time. They took awesome in water and action based pictures that we easily provided to us after the lesson directly to our phones. I will come back myself next time for a lesson as well. I didn't want to distract my daughter if we Both were having a lesson. Who new those guys and my daughter would be so efficient. I have nothing but the best to say about these Guys. Met them at cove beach park. There truck was easily viewable and seen. Plenty of parking. Very efficient check in and friendly. They have Square for easy payment. read more

I went on a surf safari with Ikaika Kawai today. I'm a surfer from San Diego so I just wanted to get the full Maui surf experience from a local. It was so awesome and well worth it. He called me the day prior to get the perfect board and picked me up at my hotel for dawn patrol. We got 3 sessions in today as well as some local food. I would definitely do this trip again and I would recommend it to my close friends and family. read more

I don't write very many reviews, but I felt it was important to share how great these guys are! They should be at the top of the list. If you have kids wanting to learn to surf, this is the place to go. They are personable, friendly, professional - but also laid back, and most of all, know how to talk to children. I heard some other instructors from other schools out there and it was surprising the tone they were taking with the kids while barking about what not to do. Aloha Ocean Adventures are truly passionate about their business and making a positive impact on your experience. I have two 9 year old girls. Ikaika was constantly providing feedback and instructions for each girl who had different skill sets based on their age. We have tried several different surf schools and without a doubt, this was our best experience yet. You cannot go wrong with these guys, I'm sure if you give them a chance, you'll be back. read more

My wife and I were here on our honeymoon and got set up by our hotel with Keoki for our first surfing lesson. We didn't have any expectations and were a little nervous but Keoki did such a great job preparing us for what to expect and what to do before we got into the water. The wife and I were so well prepared that we both stood up on the board on our first waves. Best day ever surfing with #AlohaOceanAdventure. My first lesson was back in '03 at Diamond Head in Ohua, and I couldn't ride a wave for the life of me. Fast forward to 2018, now I'm able to catch some easy waves on my own; I can turn and brake. This was only my second lesson since Diamond Head. All thanks to Kiki and Kimo for their clear instructions and guidance. They've given me more confidence to further my skills. Also, this was John's first lesson ever, and he surpassed all expectations. (John has had more than two back surgeries). So, this was a milestone for him to just be able ride a couple of his own waves. read more

Took a private Stand-Up paddle boarding lesson with Kimo and what an experience! From the start he was super accommodating and patient. He provides everything you need rash guard, pants, shoes, and sunglasses. Prior to getting into the water he gave me time to practice and get comfortable. While out in the water he was there to give one-on-one instruction and also space to learn. We saw turtles, fish, beautiful colorful coral reef and some whales - way off in the distance. He's born and raised in Hawaii and had great stories to share while out on the water. He provided me with GoPro picture and video of the day. They come with my highest recommendation! Great experience! Feels like you are the only group out in the water. They monitor for safety and know when to turn it up a bit when people get used to it. The mobile rig that holds the equipment is right next to the water, which makes it safe and easy. The videos are great too from many angles and distances. 8 of 8 got up and surfed multiple times! This is the small LOCAL owned surf school to choose. Keoki is the owner and has been teaching over 12 years and taught many of the other instructors at other companies then left to start his own. He's patient, teaches you safety and good basic techniques to give you the authentic surfing experience for beginners. You will be surfing by the time you leave the water! Ikaikai, the owner, is the most awesome surfing instructor! My three kids, ages 7, 10, and 13, had never surfed before. They were so nervous and did not think they would have fun, but Ikaika had them up and surfing in no time. My kids all want surf boards now and loved this experience. Took a private lesson from Kimo and he was the best! I was up and surfing for short times pretty quickly, then regressed even more quickly, and he was patient and incredibly helpful through it all. I got some really good rides in toward the end! I also learned a lot about Hawaiian history and culture from him, so that was a nice bonus. I'm so glad my friend recommended this place for lessons.
