I cannot wait to go back! Great experience all around. Camper was perfect. I loved having my food and my bed with me everywhere on the island. Snorkeled quite a bit. Was great to get in my camper, have some lunch and take a nap. The price was totally worth it. Much cheaper than a hotel and rental car. I highly recommend this company. read more

My husband and I went to Maui for our honeymoon last month and decided to try the camping thing for a few nights. We set off from Kihei and did the long, terrifying jaunt to Hana in our van and just before the sun was about to set, found a nice campground. Once set up, we decided to have a meal and cook on our propane stove that is provided. The stove wouldn't light and they forgot to give us flashlights... so we ate peanut butter banana sandwiches and played some cards over the light of my ipod. The sun sets at 6:30ish in Hawaii so by 8:00 it was pitch black and my ipod had died. With nothing to do we layed in bed, chatted and were asleep by 8:30. We drove all the way back to Kihei the next morning with the sketchiest van, downhill the whole way.. I was sure the brakes were going to fail us and we would plunge over the cliff. We finally made it back (we had to give the van a rest several times because it was smoking) and they found a leak in the propane tank so we switch vans, grabbed some flashlights and we were back on track. We did some sightseeing and then set up at Olowalu campground. We had an okay night and woke up in the morning to find she had forgot to give us a coffee press which is very upsetting for coffee lovers! We headed back to Kihei to grab a press before we headed to the Haleakala Crater for the sunrise the next morning. So the next day we drove to the top of the crater to check it out before going back down to the campground. We spent about an hour watching the sunset, then the van wouldn't start (even after pumping the gas as per their recommendation) so we had to camp at the very top in the parking lot. There was no trees to block the wind and it was close to freezing that night so we got pretty well no sleep at all. We woke up, watched the sunrise and headed back to Kihei to return the van and get ourselves into a hotel. When we arrived, no one was there so we left the van outside of the lot and called RC to let her know we had dropped off the van and where we had left the keys. She called back and thanked us, said she received the van and apologized for the trouble that we had endured. 3 days later, we got back to Canada and received a call from RC saying she found a dent on the door and that we would be charged $200 for it. We had left the van in perfect shape (my husband works for a car insurance company so was very adamant that we did a walk-around when we dropped it off), and they could not prove that it didn't happen in the 3 days that had passed since we dropped it off. Plus, they weren't there when it was dropped off to do a walk around with us. When we denied that we did it, she tried to barter with us to agree to pay $100 instead of $200. We would not agree to it since we know we did not do it. My husband called his credit card company and told them not to allow any charges from Hawaii and RC never called back. I have seen other reviews from people who had the same thing happen and were asked to pay as high as $600 for damages. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!! Aside from Aloha Campers being terrible, the Maui camping experience is not the greatest. The sun sets so early and several campgrounds don't have fires permitted or don't have pits. I wouldn't camp Maui again. We paid $90/night for a hotel and $20/day for a car (we booked with priceline, so cheap) so the van was actually more expensive (we paid $404.00 for 3 nights). we are just back from a ten day visit to maui where we rented from aloha campers... they were wonderful....made the rental very easy and it was waiting and ready when we arrived....and yes they are a little old...the one we had was in great condition considering its like 28 years old....it ran like a vw....and i mean it just goes along its merry way....not fast up hills and you enjoy the scenery.... we felt like we had the best place to stay every night....stopping and pulling out our chairs for sunset and dinner and seemed to always be in a quiet perfect place....it made it fine up to the volcano and out to the end of the pavement in hana....they gave us an emergency number if anything went wrong....but all was well.....i was worried by the reviews id read before going or renting and i think maybe its different strokes for different folks....i cant say enough about how grateful i am to aloha and its wonderful staff who pointed out where to go and stay and had the car spic and span for us....you cant beat a hotel restaurant and rental car all in one.....at least thats what we think..and yes there were only two of us... its not a five star hotel and there are none of the people either.....its definitely 5 star camping though... i guess thats a key word to remember ..you are camping.....you have to be up for that.....but.pop the top and your done .... your there.....the stars the full moon all available from your chairs just outside....out the sliding picture window of a door and from your bed through the windows up top.....ocean closer than ever possible in a hotel... everyones visit to maui is different ...weather ,life, people.....but i hope you have a wonderful time if you go..... we had a great marvellous time thanks to aloha...... read more

Aloha Campers came up with the van but that was about it. We rented for four nights in late March and ended up staying in a hotel the last night. It started off when we organized a ride from the airport before we arrived and the Aloha Campers driver was more than 30 minutes late with no apology (wouldn't mind if the ride was free....) The windshield had a crack, the bumper looked like it was about to fall off on one side, there was no windshield wiper fluid, the seats were filthy (and the back seat had a cigarette burn in the cushion), the refrigerator didn't work and the cooler they lent us was busted, a curtain that was supposed to zip was hanging on with safety pins, the gas tank was less than 1/4 full when we got it ("we don't check it" -- what??) and the vehicle was obnoxiously loud and smelled like gas. Somebody wrote about a coffee maker that was provided -- ha! ha!! I think we got two pans, three coffee cups (one chipped) and a few other utensils. I knew we would be camping and not to expect anything close to luxury, but we did expect basic comfort. The good news is that it did not break down, even though we smelled brake burns on our way down the Road to Hana. It was expensive! I know the owner does not get all the money: taxes, insurance, airport transfers, cleaning fee, camp site fees...it all added up to about $220/night +gas, for a van (not including the hotel the last night). It IS a unique experience. It would have been a heck of a lot better if we felt secure with our transportation and there was some TLC put into the vans and the business. read more
