My husband and I are very devoted to this business. Granted the hubs has been coming here since high school, and that was, like, forty years ago (he's not that old. Don't tell. He'll kill me), but his bias isn't my bias -- I love it despite it not being part of my childhood. The sushi is cheap, but it is very filling and quite impressive in terms of quality. I'm actually partial to the unagi roll, which I could eat four rolls of, no problem. The service is great; the owner is very nice and attentive. They offer pickup, so feel free to order over the phone before stopping in. So I had a Kaiser appointment that I was pretty early for and stopped at Aloha Sushi to get lunch because it's right across the street. I couldn't really find a menu other than one that looked like an old take out menu taped to the side wall. I ordered a dynamite roll. The 4 counter seats inside were occupied, so I ate in my car. I've had better.... I particularly like Kapahulu Kozo for take out sushi. Aloha Sushi just doesn't compare to the quality I've gotten used to at Kozo. I didn't really like the sauce...overall it was just okay for me. It was also $14 for a roll. I like that they offer half roll options, but I don't think I'd be back, unfortunately. Excellent sushi for a quick fresh tasty bite! It's my favorite take out sushi. My favs are ikura, unagi,spicy ahi,and salmon skin! They are always fresh, onolicious and filled with ingredients with not too much rice which is the way I like my sushi. I also ask for wasabi inside and they put just enough! Too bad I scarfed them down before taking pics. Hopefully I'll remember next time. Poor quality. I could've went to 7Eleven for this level and spent half as much. Chicken Katsudon was the frozen breaded chicken tenderloin with Katsu sauce on it!!!! The price and quality of this establishment is pretty good. I can't speak for everything , but I do like the dynamite maki, which is shrimp tempura, spicy ahi, crab, cucumber, sweet and sour sauce. It's $4.99 for 4 pieces, or $8.99 for 8 pieces. I rate it 3 stars since the service isn't very happy or friendly, and parking is horrible. There's one stall behind the store and two other customer stalls but those are shared with the other buildings' tenants so it's hit or miss. read more

The appearance was great, my ahi nigiri looked spectacular when I first opened up my food. Unfortunately the flavor was not exactly what I was expecting. I asked for no onions in my udon and the udon tasted straight like onions and also had a few white and green onions in there, no big deal though I just ate around them. Honestly I wouldn't have cared that the udon wasn't the best if the sushi was at least decent. The spicy ahi nigiri looked amazing and I really thought that I wasn't even going to need any sauce with it. But the taste of the ahi, along with the spice and flavors from the sauce that it looked covered in was just lacking. The only thing that was mediocre or even a little enjoyable was the California roll. I am most likely not going to return again unless some changes are made to the food quality. read more

They are a small shop, mostly for take out sushi and located right across from Kaiser Permanente. Parking is found on the street. Price is standard for take-out sushi. Taste was 5/5! I ordered the shrimp tempura hand roll, spicy ahi hand roll, California hand roll, and ume maki. All of them were fresh and better tasting than other take-out sushi!!! This place is small and has a good amount of customers ordering. My minus 1-star is because the sushi took almost 30 minutes which was a bummer. It seems like there's only two people working; one at the front and one at the back. Friendly service, but an extremely long wait for a heavy amount of foot traffic during lunch. The only disappointment was that no cashier was there to greet me when I walkes in. For some reason there was was a man behind the counter but I couldn't see him because he was doing somthing below where I couldn't see him until he stood up. Heads up - make sure to order your food ahead of time to avoid waiting. The sushi is made to order. There is usually just one worker here, so she'll need time to make the fresh sushi. This restaurant is very small inside. Limited to about 6 - 8 people that can dine in. There are seats against the window and the wall. Since I work nearby, I always call in an order to pick up and when I get there, the seats are usually taken by students. There is a parking lot in the back, but is shared with the other businesses. Street parking is available on Young Street, but are hardly open. There is a minimum $10.00 to use a credit card. SUSHI: My favorite is the Dynamite Maki (shrimp tempura, spicy ahi, crab, cucumber, sweet & sour sauce). It is a bit spice but very tolerable and delicious. I highly recommend trying this sushi. Another one of my favorite is the Unagi Bowl. It comes with 2 pieces of shumai in the bowl and a side of miso soup. Another item I tried was the Spicy Dragon Maki. Decent menu size though they don't have too many options that I typically go for in regards to sushi. I also don't think they use sushi rice as the rice vinegar taste was missing. They use sriracha instead of Japanese mayo in their spicy ahi don and they add it over a bed of shredded lettuce and a slice of lemon. Definitely the most unique spicy ahi bowl I've had. The lettuce doesn't mix well with the ahi bowl but at least it functions as a salad somewhat. At least it is very spicy. The size of the bowl and the cost is fair but not plentiful, but they do give you a miso soup side which is great. Would have to try their nigiri before I can really complete my opinion. OMG! This would be my third time here, usually it's to get a quick and small bite to eat after a work out. I don't remember exactly what I ordered the last two visits here. This time I had a California roll. What I do remember is every order was delicious and the ingredients is always fresh. I would definitely consider ordering a sushi platter here to bring to a party. According to the menu, it stated free delivery for orders over $20. The only bad thing is there's only one parking spot for Aloha Sushi in the back of the two story building. There are a few customer spots, but the parking space is pretty tight. You might get lucky and find street parking. If you're banking at First Hawaiian Bank or shopping at Walgreens across the street, you could walk over and do take out. Just saying.....wink! read more

Love this place! My coworkers and I put in a phone order at least once a week and I always get the salmon ikura don :] I don't really go for dressing, so the ikura goes really good with the layer of lettuce, and I love that they put sushi rice to go with the salmon :) The older-ish lady who's usually there sometimes has help, but lots of times she has to cashier AND make the food, so we try to walk there 15-20 minutes later. It's kinda hard to tell what time is more busy for her, but you can usually hear the noise over the phone lol. She's blunt, but nice (kind of like my Chinese grandma) and I give her credit for dealing with the after-school crowd of kids who come to bother her when McKinley lets out. You can tell they go there a lot cuz they're all like, "Ho, miss!" and start teasing her. She doesn't take their crap, but there's something about her that's like a funny, grouchy old aunty. I have to say, of all the Aloha Sushi locations I've tried, this place has the freshest fish... and it's so cheap, whaaat? Their bowls are a steal for $7.99 because they always give a good amount of everything, and how can you go wrong with the cup of miso soup that it comes with?? YOU CAN'T. For what it is, this place gets a five out of five from me. Maybe it's a little too generous, but out of all the take out sushi places (including other aloha sushis) this place is my FAVORITE! Why you ask? Food: All of the fish I've had from here tastes ridiculously fresh. You know how some take out sushi places have dry, toilet water tasting fish? Not here! Of course it's not the best sushi I've had but for a take out place I was impressed. My favorite things from here is their strawberry coconut fruit smoothie (I believe this is made with real fruits) and their salmon ikura donburi (I think it's around $8 now). The salmon is SO fresh and cut in nice sized pieces. The ikura tastes pretty good as well. All donburis come with miso soup. Service: Probably the only thing I can kinda complain about. I always come here when I visit my mom down the street and I've been coming for years and the service is not the friendliest. They get the job done but almost every time they don't smile or anything. Makes me kind of uncomfortable sometimes but whatever! At least their not mean. Location: Located across the street from Kaiser hospital. They have a small parking lot. There's also about five or six chairs you can sit at to enjoy your food. By the way, I suggest you not to go at around 3pm. I was at first hesitant to go because I saw that it has not many stars, but I'm very glad I stopped in and gave it a try. Their boba drink is sweet but not too sweet and had a slushy consistency. Ok so somehow this Aloha Sushi made it off the Yelper's radar, and I can't understand how (see my submitted photo). Well ok maybe it's because other than the standard Aloha Sushi advertisements in the window, there is no sign. It could also be that it is squeezed between Cartier's Barber and Hair One beauty saloon fronting Pensacola on the Diamond Head side. So I have eaten here 3 times now due to it's very convenient location (Pensacola and Young) and plethora of cheap, quick, convenient sushi. I will be returning, but won't be expecting very friendly service or the full Aloha Sushi menu because there's is neither. The 3 stars is a stretch obviously, but I do like the location... Small, hole in the wall, stop by place on Pensacola street directly across from Kaiser Honolulu Clinic. Friendly service with mesmerizing wall of options for rolls and donburi bowls. It's an easy walk for me, but parking around the area can be tight during the day. I would agree with other yelpers to call in advance and place an order if possible. I showed up to order one day and it's a good at least 5 minutes wait during lunch hour for them to prepare the items. There is a $10 minimum for using a credit card! The rolls are delicious! I had the Californian Maki one day and there are generous toppings and delicious sauce to go with the roll wrapped in nori. The musabi had generous serving of Spam (YUM!). Most rolls range around $3. Love this sushi shop!! The portions are HUGE. We ordered three rolls to share between two people and we had so much extra food we ended up having lunch the next day. I am a huge ahi fan and this place does it right. The spicy ahi roll is not what you think, its actually pieces of ahi with spicy sauce on top. The special roll, I believe its called dynamite is topped with spicy ahi and that is the more traditional mayo based type. I also love that the rolls come with a miso soup. They have a good variety of hand rolls, nigiri, maki, bentos, party platters, and smoothies. I usually get their $7.99 spicy ahi don, which comes with miso soup, and supplement with a tako nigiri. The spicy ahi is good quality and has awesome taste. Most prices are on the cheaper side. The workers are friendly but the seating area inside is small. Anyway working in town not much parking,UNLESS you park at the Blaisdell for $6/day, and it still sucks because it's not like you can take your car out for lunch and then come back and park for free. They will charge another $6. With that being said it's pretty hard to find places to eat unless you order from places that deliver but then you need to order a certain amount, then collect money and deal with tipping and so forth. I'm so glad that I discovered this place because not only was the food good, it was very affordable, and close to work. I ordered a vegetable spicy ahi don with a crab Hand roll and my total was less than $11. Usually when I eat sushi the Donburi sets you back at about $10- $11. So with that being said I was pleased. The Donburi was pretty tasty nice and crunchy from the vegetable tempura and the heat from the spicy ahi wasn't overbearing. My cousin and I wanted to come eat at this Aloha Sushi because we live nearby. We ate at the one on Keeaumoku St and by the Airport. I figured they would be similar. However, this one was not. We Ordered spicy dragon maki and dynamite maki. I was unaware that spicy dragon maki had unagi (eel) in it and I've never eaten eel before. I dared myself and ate the eel despite knowing I have certain salt water fish allergy and would know if I am allergic after getting hives and feeling miserable throwing up. Thank goodness there is a Kaiser across the street. But lucky for me, I survived the dare! Would I eat it again? Maybe. Pro: 1) Similar menu, but unsure if prices are different 2) Filled me right up. I recommend the dynamite maki Con: 1) Street parking. Or park by First Hawaiian/Walgreens lot 2) Cashier seemed new.
