Takeout lunch from Downtown Honolulu, Hawaii... While I was walking through the Topa Financial Center (makai Ewa corner of Queen and Bishop Streets), I saw "Aloha Sushi". I have seen other locations of Aloha Sushi, scattered around the area. It's so convenient for the people working at the end of Fort Street Mall area. There are hot entrées under the warmer, cold drinks in the refrigerator, and ready to go bentos on the counter! Just grab, pay at the counter, and get to your next destination! This particular location has cute plushies like Hello Kitty and Totoro! On the refrigerator, there are photos of a cute white dog... must belong to one of the workers. The pleasant workers liked Cony, Brown, Stitch, Miffy, and Nikki Bunny! I showed them how Brown will eat the Salmon Bento and share his broccoli with Cony, etc. At home, we enjoyed the ume avocado maki sushi a lot! That was a good combination! We also liked the imitation crab avocado sushi, zucchini and imitation crab jun (with yummy dipping sauce), and the salmon bento! All flavors were on point and everything had nice presentation! Out of all the sushi places in town, Aloha Sushi is my go to. Although 3 blocks away from me, I will make that walk to get my sushi fix. This location has never done me wrong, the staff is friendly and loves what they do, their shrimp tempura roll is always delicious and from time to time I'll get their shrimp tempura curry, so filling and at a generous portion. The charmingly small store is kept flawlessly clean and is inviting. They also have popular bentos to go so anyone to grab and go, but they tend to go quick so get there early. read more

I got lunch here with a friend who said she liked their poke bowls. I ordered a bi bim bap with shoyu poke because I wanted the choice of 5 veggies it comes with. The veggies were okay. They have a decent variety to choose from including namul, kim Chee, seaweed salad, Mac salad, Choi sum, cabbage, cucumber kim Chee, lotus root, long rice noodles, and several others. I would give the poke 2 stars because it was definitely frozen with slightly mushy texture, and seemed a little waterlogged. It had a slight ahi flavor. To call it "poke" is a stretch of imagination, though, because it had barely any shoyu, about 5 fine threads of onion, and maybe 5 pieces of chopped green onion. I ate most of the veggies, a few bites of poke, then just gave up because it just wasn't worth the calories. There's a lot of better poke bowl places downtown for a few bucks more. read more

I'm obsessed with Aloha Sushi. I seriously come here at least 2x/week for their vegetable bi bim bap. Located in the lobby of Topa Financial Center, Aloha Sushi is one of the last eating places left in our building. Thank goodness they are still here because I'd be saddest to see them leave. During lunch, they have a lot of pre-made bentos that you can select from, along with some sushi rolls and sides. You can also order sushi, curry and ramen off of the menu and wait for them to make it then. But the only reason I come here is for their bi bim bap. Order your bi bim bap at the cash register and you can do it with just vegetables and choice of white/brown rice. Then you can also add on either chicken, bbq beef, spicy ahi or poke. Their spicy ahi is really good, but it's really just a dollop so I'd stick to the vegetable bowl. After you pay for the bowl, then you select your 5 veggies--they usually have about 10 different ones to choose from so selection is good. Finally, they pour a light sauce on it, but give you the spicy Korean red sauce on the side (which I like that it's separate) and pack you a bowl of miso soup! Enjoy!! read more

Wanted a quick bite but was too lazy to leave the building so decided to head downstairs to Aloha Sushi. I've been here a couple times for breakfast and lunch and it's always just okay. The ladies here are always so friendly. On this occasion I had the spicy ahi with tempura donburi and I was very surprised at how flavorful it was. Good sized portion for only $7.99. sushi rice topped with spicy Ahi and two crispy shrimp tempura. Being Korean owned it also included a small serving of choi sum and Jap chae. Lots of flavor and I'd certainly get it again. read more

Located in Topa tower, this aloha sushi is my go to lunch spot (I work across the street so you can't beat the convenience!) The ladies that work here are super sweet and the food takes no longer than a few minutes to make. I usually go for the spicy ahi donburi and it comes with a hefty portion of white rice, chop chae, a good amount of spicy ahi (not great, but good!) and a tasty leafy green side dish that I can't remember the name of for $8! I remember coming here before when I took classes at HPU. Not many people know that there's an aloha sushi hidden in this building downtown. It's a bit cheaper than Ninja Sushi, which is also in the area. I like this place better because I can eat in there and the place is clean most of the time. It's close and convenient, and just like someone said below "I want sushi and don't want to walk that far cause I'm wearing high heels". I find myself coming here for lunch when I'm hungry. Plus, it gives good AC! Great for when you've been walking in the sun after work -_-. Every time I come here, I try something different. Their spicy ahi maki is hella spicy, good thing I had water when I ate that... I really like their udon and so far, all the maki sushi I've tried was delicious. I like the french kiss and shrimp tempura ones! Kept me full till dinnertime. The lady cashier that works there is real nice and she recognizes me after 3 days in a row of coming. My kid and I were trying to find sushi for lunch--any sushi would do, so long as the fish was dead--before we had to make an appointment nearby. We searched for this place and finally found it at 12:30. And while we stood there at the menu, making our choices, two of the employees were working on boxing up some food and watching us consider the options. We were about to walk inside, and one of them informs us they aren't taking any more orders for the day. At 12:30. In the afternoon. No more orders. And they wait to tell us this after we've already decided what we want, not when we're looking at the menu and still *maybe* have time to track down a different sushi place. Mind you, the open sign is still up, the lights are on, the door is open, and the smells and sounds of cooking food are all up in the atrium there. But no more orders. And that was that. No apology, no explanation of their usual service hours, nothing. "We aren't taking any more orders today," and he walked away. Sorry I can't offer a better rating, Aloha Sushi, but if I can only judge your food based on your appalling, unapologetic service, you get a single star (see how that's done? now you know how to tell a haole to go away politely next time) and none of my business in the future. I love sushi and was so excited to see that there was an Aloha Sushi in the building when my company relocated to TOPA the beginning of this year. I am sad to say though, that the food is mediocre. Very friendly staff but the sushi and poke leaves a whole lot to be desired. I had the dynamite maki (good sauce but ahi was brown and not fresh), fishcakes (it was ok) and spicy ahi nigiri (same, not fresh). Maybe I had just gone on an off day, I'll review again if I happen to make my way back for a 2nd try. read more

Don't go here. Stopped by for a quick bite and got a miso ramen. Possibly the worst ramen I've ever had. It only consisted of noodles, bean sprouts and cabbage. Very bare bones and didn't even taste good. Forced myself to eat it cause I was hungry and didn't have time to get food elsewhere. Maybe their other food is fine but definitely not the ramen. Only eat here if you have no other choice and you are so desperate for food that if you don't eat you'll drop dead. Haha ok that might be a bit much but you get the idea. read more

I come here for the Korean food because there aren't any good ones downtown and this one is the best!! I love their kimchee tofu soup and bibimbap. The kimchee is spicy and the veggies on the bibimbap are fresh. The bibimbap with teri beef is like $8-9 and totally fills me up. Comes with miso soup. I tried a spicy ahi roll but there was something weird in the middle of it that I couldn't identify.. some kind of dried something. It wasn't bad, but I won't be ordering sushi anymore. GO FOR THE KOREAN FOOD!!! It is as good as it gets downtown IMHO (but I'm only speaking for the Kimchee Tofu soup and the bibimbap). read more

Since they've changed owners, I don't like going there anymore. The food tastes like there have been attempts at trying to "preserve" the food to keep the raw food fresher longer. The roe on the nigiri definitely tastes older, "fishier", the eel was rubbery, and the fish lacked flavor, and the rice seemed "defrosted". And the one time I ordered the spicy ahi bowl, they gave me a version with the ahi all minced up mixed together with that spicy cream cheese sauce. The texture was awful! Do yourself a favor and walk over to the Aloha Sushi at the Pioneer Plaza. Tastes much better and leaves you feeling more satisfied. read more

I came down here for lunch today because the line at Marukame was way too long for me and now I wish I had just waited. Unfortunately, what was pictured in the menu was NOT what came out after I ordered from Aloha Sushi. Instead of a shrimp tempura, chicken teri bento I got more like what I would describe as a tempura shrimp - chicken bowl? Not compartmentalized like a traditional bento (or what was pictured on the menu). The "salad" was just about 5 pieces of small, chopped up lettuce underneath the chicken that was wilted from the heat. Yuck. If I had known I wasn't getting what was advertised, I would have ordered something different or just gone somewhere else. As for the taste? The chicken tasted old and the tempura batter was too thick and became soggy and spongy within 5 minutes. I ate about half and tossed the rest. With so many great options in downtown for the same price range, I don't think I'll ever eat here again. read more

I'm stuck with the Spicy Ahi Bowl. I always request a little bit of brown rice and then a layer of romaine lettuce. The spicy sauce is what really does the magic -- tried the same bowl at Pioneer Plaza and it's nothing in comparison with this one. The line usually starts to form around 11:45am daily. Quick, delicious, and nutritional! I've frequented this place a few times, and there's always a line during lunch time. Don't worry though, the females manning the booth are very efficient! They also give you the option of white or brown rice for sushi. Prices are quite reasonable, I usually get the lunch nigiri bento (15 pieces) and that costs around $9. They also offer korean food and japanese curry with ramen. They do sell a lot of curry (from what I hear other customers ordering), as I will need to try that next time around. read more

I've been to this Aloha Sushi many times and I love it. I love their selections that they have out before the lunch time rush. Their combo selections is life! When I go there, I like to get their chicken Katsu plate or Ahi poke nigiri. The staff there is also super friendly, always greeting every customer with a hello and smile. Only downside would be pricing. It's a little pricy but worth it. read more

I'll have to admit I haven't tried their sushi yet, actually, I haven't tried anything else besides their curry. I really like their curry, it has a good amount of spice in it. I'd say the curry here can compete with Curry House, pretty good considering this is a sushi place. It really hits the spot as the weather is still cool. They do have a good selection of pre-made bentos and sushi but I have not been tempted to try them yet. I will however try some of their Korean offerings the next time. I ordered an egg roll and it wasn't a block of Japanese style sweet egg wrapped in rice like the picture. It was just a sad, paper-thin sliver of an oily half-egg omelet. Not even a full egg. Half. It was literally 1/20th egg and 19/20ths rice. Everytime I've gone the egg has just gotten smaller but now it's just nonexistent. I could've bought those 75 cent boiled eggs and I would've gotten more of an egg. This has been the most disappointing experience of my life. read more
