Best apple manju I've ever tasted in like forever. Do not waste your time on Matsuura's manju (or any other) readily available at grocery or convenient stores. I was so happy when my girlfriend introduced me to Aloha Sweet Delites' manju and baked goods. It's delish! So worth it was my impromptu stop. What a delicious hidden gem. In addition to their tasty manju, the cinnamon twists I purchased lasted me a few minutes because I inhaled the whole bag in one sitting. Yummy and a full tummy! Their cinnamon mini toasts are also another addicting treat. Times a convenient affair when Aloha Sweet Delites is not only a bakery but also in tandem as a great mini grocery store. Case and point: I found their corn nuts insanely addicting after the first kennel was chewed loudly lol. I'd definitely frequent this bakery-convenience store whenever in the area. There were so many other baked goods I didn't get to try but will remedy that in the foreseeable future. Only regret is my inability to enjoy their honeydew tapioca if I was to avoid an allergic reaction to the melon. Will wait for another melon or fruit tapioca. I had a cream-filled Malasada. Yeah, it was a 9.7/10 experience. Like a sugar donut ball with Boston style cream inside. This spot was off the highway and tucked back there. Went in on our way back from further along the road and this is a little gem for pastries made in-house. Two ladies were behind a big window preparing more donuts, pastries, a bread-like pastry with butter and sugar... The lady behind the counter was busy with a group of women choosing their order, so watching the bakers was a nice distraction. The store is quite basic, no frills, but you walk in and the sweet aroma just hits you with the urge to eat/try one of everything :) The last two pastries I was eyeing were taken by the women so I got the bread, butter and sugar one - it's a local treat, sorry I don't remember the name - a half moon pie with apple, some delicious little dumplings with fillings and yes, ate them all before remembering I had to take pix. If you're in the area this is a good place to stop for sweet treats; no hot coffee but the store has cold drinks and snacks. Parking is right out front and down a few steps, I didn't notice if there was a ramp but if so it's not right near the stairs; as with many stores here there's no public restroom. read more

Very unassuming and may not look like much from the outside...looks like a giant red abandoned building, however the far side of the building you will discover Aloha Sweet Delites. This is hands down the best pastry shop we found in Kauai. We picked up Malasada and manju. Malasada was light and airy and perfectly sweetened. We picked up the bean and ube manju as well. The manju are a dense pasty with a creamy sweet filling. Highly recommend for something unique. There's also a small market inside giving a bit of quickie mart stop vibes. It's not necessarily aesthetic inside but for what it gives up in vibes, it makes up for in awesome treats to go which is exactly what we wanted!! read more

Malasadas are a must-eat if you're on the island, and Aloha does them well. If you want to get the filled versions, be sure to come in early as they usually sell out by noon. Such a cool place! We came in the afternoon so I think the baked goods were no longer at their peak of freshness, so that's on us and a word of warning to go early. I'm sure it would have been better if we had. We got a couple of apple fritters, a coconut turnover, a couple of malasadas (regular and cream filled) and Spanish bread. The only standout wast the coconut turnover. It was really nice! Everything else was just sort of doughy and tasteless. We'll try again next time but hit it when they open up. read more

These are some really delicious donuts you can't miss. We got: * Cream Malasada -- Delicious cream inside, with a sugar powdered outside. We unfortunately came too late in the day so they weren't warm anymore. However, still delicious! The cream was sweet but not overpoweringly-so. Would recommend - our favorite donut of the pack. It's very similar to cream-filled donuts you'd find at Krispy Kreme. * Oreo Chocolate Donut -- The Oreo on top is not as tough and crunchy as you might expect. Fortunately, that means it's a lot easier to eat, and the Oreo stays on the donut as you eat. * Ube "puff"? If you'd have teochew moon cakes ("taro puffs") this is tangentially related. It's got a non-flakey but crunchy "crust", with purple yam or ube inside. The best part is it's not too sweet, but it's got the flavor you'd expect from purple yam. * Buttermilk Donut -- Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy this one as much. It was good bang for the buck in terms of size, but the inside was a lot less poofy than we expected. Altogether, I believe this was $7-8. Each donut was around $2 or less. It might've been yummier warm. It's not a game-changer that you'd only find in Hawaii, when cold, but it's not random run-of-the-mill donuts (poorly-made donuts might end up too oily, uneven etc). These are quality donuts for a decent price. Would recommend! We got these on the way to Waimea Canyon. read more

We didn't try all of the bakeries on our list, but we tried quite a few. This one was the best. So good that we went back a second time and almost stopped for a third time on our way out of that part of the island. This one feels the most authentically and traditionally Hawaiian. Traditional in the sense of mixed cultures - plenty of Philipino, Portuguese, and Asian influences are represented. Great malasadas. The filled buns are even better. We also loved the Spanish bread, which was just so slightly sweet (and very easy to eat). It also opens very early, unlike most other places on the island that seem to cater mostly to tourists.
