Stopped by Kauai Menehune Kitchen after visiting Waimea Canyon on the way back to Lihue and it ended up being one of the most memorable meals I had on the island. It's such a cute little mom-and-pop spot, super welcoming and simple in the best way. The second you walk in, it just feels warm and genuine. The roasted pork rice dish was honestly the best I've ever had in my life. The pork was perfectly cooked, so flavorful along with the cravy, and everything tasted incredibly fresh and homemade. Best mac salad as well. They have other rice dishes too, can't wait to come back to try these. You can really tell how much care goes into the food here. And the malasadas... easily some of the freshest we had in Kauai. Soft, warm, and just perfect -- the kind you wish you had ordered more of right away. They have both simple malasadas and filled ones (get the coconut one!!!) The whole experience honestly felt like you were eating at your auntie's house. So comforting, so friendly, and just really special. If you're anywhere near Hanapepe, this place is 100% worth stopping for. I'm already thinking about that roasted pork and can't wait to come back next time I'm in Kauai. read more

Yay finally found this kitchen manned by a group of three. It's totally walking into your gramma's kitchen (but larger). Vanilla sauce being made on the burner. Someone washing dishes. Another cooking our malasada order. Our church has ordered their malasadas which I enjoyed and wanted. They generously donated some as well. I ordered 6 with vanilla filling and no sugar (so I could warm up without burning). And 2 with sugar to eat immediately. They gave us extras ... Plain with sugar (it was doughy on the inside could've used extra time in the fryer) I gave this to my daughter who air fried it and said it was ono! Honestly, it's not your Leonard's but it's pretty decent on the heavier side which I like. The person that helped was very sweet... Will go back to try their other food and maybe a couple more malasadas!! read more

We loved their malasadas! Delicious and affordable. We ordered 5 dozen for our late night wedding snack surprise and they delivered to the Sheraton in Poipu right before we had them served! (Delivery was only $5!) They were so kind to fry them for us right before delivery so they'd be fresh. Our guests LOVED them! We had 4 with filling: ube, chocolate, vanilla, and haupia as well as plain cinnamon sugar. Haupia and vanilla were favorites. We ate them at the reception during all the dancing, then again after the ceremony (in our suite still in our wedding clothes) and the next morning because they were that good! Seriously amazing! Came here for malasadas and got a bahn mi. They were a highlight on our trip and will definitely be back. We had some filled malasadas - plum and coconut. Coconut was a fave! Without question this was the best meal we had in Hanapepe and on our whole visit south of Princeville. (Tied for best meal across 3 island trips with our fave breakfast spot in the north!) The pork plate had juicy chunks of crispy pork and a delicious gravy over well-cooked rice. The Mac salad was well seasoned and simple, and the ginger lemon salad dressing was delicious. It's a huge serving and super reasonably priced. We were stuffed but couldn't resist the malasadas, and you shouldn't either! You won't think that you'll need 6, but you do. Such a charming place. We stumbled upon this place in Hanapepe. The host was so passionate about the food served there. She was a joy to talk to. We ordered the malasadas. They arrived fresh to order with homemade custards of coconut, chocolate, and plain, and tossed in cinnamon sugar or plain sugar. We chose both and were glad we did. We went on a Sunday and almost turned around before reaching their shop because we thought everything was closed. So glad we kept going. It's a cute hole in the wall. Everything is made to order so requires patience. But so worth the wait. We also had roast pork bowl. $5! Pork had just the right ratio of fat to meat and the gravy was real! Not packaged. So good. This place has absolutely delicious food. Traditional Hawaiian grinds at the best value. A 1 item plate lunch was 10 bucks, and it came with a generous portion of roast pork on top of rice, and mac salad. All for just ten dollars. We also got a couple of Malasadas and they were only a dollar each, 1.75 if you wanted one with filling. The owner of the place can't of and spoke with us, and even gave us 2 chocolate croissants, that she made by hand that morning. Those croissants were up there eur the best I've ever had. We got the pork bowl and their malassada which were both great. The pork belly was tender with crispy skin and the gravy was creamy and savory. The donuts were sugar and sugar/cinnamon with cream cheese or chocolate filling. We got 3 plain, 2 cream cheese and a chocolate! They threw in an extra chocolate too.
