If you are Chinese, my mom will sniff you out and gravite towards you just so she can connect and speak to you in Cantonese. The owners spoke Cantonese and my mom went to town speaking in her native tongue with them. That's how my mama rolls :). Fun find! This review is for their jeanduey (deep fried mochi balls). They fried them fresh from the fryer for us. They are jumbo sized. They filled it with savory delicious bbq pork. And we also ordered the sweet peanut butter filled one too. Both delicious and was a fun find for Kauai. Someday we will come back to try their bbq offerings and hot plate selections.

Roast Pork Saimin. Crispy roast pork, napa cabbage and a complex broth.

Had the best Katsu Curry with a great salad incuded. Picture says it all. A must stop on the west. Thank you!

I really wanted to like this place, but I was disappointed. The place looked old and tired, the employees gave off the same feeling too and the food ... just "not good". My wife and I were on the way back to Lehui from visiting Waimea Canyon and stopped here for late lunch. We ordered regular saimin bowl and ono with ginger and onions. Saimin broth was lite and the noodles tasted old. The small pieces of cha shu was the only thing that tasted good. Ono was OK, but the rice tasted plastic and the Mac salad had too much mayonnaise. Dang. I really wanted to enjoy this place.

Best lilikoi chiffon pie on the Island of Kaua'i... That's what the sign outside the restaurant says... and that's what my Uber driver told me the last time I was on Kaua'i for a 3 hour layover! About 3 months ago, I was at Lihue Airport and took an Uber to Hamura Saimin for Lilikoi chiffon pie - and some saimin, of course. This time, I caught an Uber to Hanapepe which is about 38 minutes from Lihue. I really wanted to try the pie at Wong's! There are free parking stalls in front of the restaurant. Just be careful when you leave because you'll be backing up into highway traffic. Inside, you'll see the dining area to the right and a large party room to the left that can fit more than 100 people. Straight ahead is the large refrigerator where I got my lilikoi (passionfruit) chiffon pie. The cashier was so friendly! She greeted me right away by calling me "auntie" and asked if I needed help. She saw that I was looking in the party room and asked if I wanted a menu. I was just focused on my pie. I asked for a package, but there are none that fit the pie box. I carried my pie box through the airport until I was able to pack it into my tote bag. I got it all the way home to Oahu on Hawaiian Airlines and let it rest in my refrigerator because the pie had been out for a few hours. When the pie cooled down again, I cut myself a slice... and then another... and another... mmm! So good! So light! So smooth! I think I could eat the whole thing! LOL! I don't know if it's "the best" lilikoi chiffon pie. The shortbread crust seemed premade. I would have to put Hamura's pie right next to Wong's pie to make a better comparison. For now, I'm happy with this pie!

"Eat at Wong's, You can't go wrong" says the T-shirt with the Wong's logo. Always pass this restaurant on our way back from Waimea Canyon in Kauai. Rated #2 Asian restaurant by Yelp reviews on island of Kauai. Of course, Panda Express is rated #15, so they must know what they are talking about right? Place looks very dated from the outside, with the big dinner dining area closed off for lunch. Place needs a new paint job on the outside. Lunch area has a few tables, and food served cafeteria style, with open vats of food, including oyster chicken, breaded sea bass, beef broccoli, and pork adobo. Saimin, burgers and Pupu dishes advertised. And of course their lilikoi pies stockpiled in refrigerators at $19 apiece. We get the breaded sea bass, beef broccoli, and pork adobo combination with noodles, all for $10. Portions are small, Panda Express size, with the wife finding the beef broccoli and pork adobo too salty to eat. The beef in the broccoli is on the rubbery side, but the pork adobo is OK, but could use more juice as the chunks of pork dry up easily. So I let her eat the breaded sea bass, which is quite good, with only a light breading, and tasty full flavored fish. $15 minimum charge using credit cards. Next time will try the roasted pork with noodles, or the kalua pork. The bathrooms are on the unclean side, with a permanently stained men's urinal trough -haven't seen such a thing in decades! I guess they don't trust guys to aim in the right direction over urinals. Eat at Wong's. You can't aim wrong with Wong's!

We had a lunch meeting today. We ordered from Wongs and was not disappointed! Both Glory and Nadine were very nice and patient with me. Since I had questions. Ordered 20 plate lunches the day before and it was ready at 11:30am I plate lunches were massive and yummy!! Side note: I asked if the mac salad could be separated, which they remembered.

After traveling the South end decided to have some Chinese food. I must say the Lilikoi, Guava pie sign led us in. Big portions of food, but not that tasty. Hubby had the noodles, oyster sauce chicken, beef brocolli. Didn't like the noodles which he said was hard and dry. Mom and I tried the wonton mein..no flavor to the broth. Lunch was just okay..

I'm only reviewing the lilikoi pie here. The hubby liked this version on our trip. I like passionfruit so I'm not too critical on this.

We picked up a whole Island Lemon Pie to take with us (forgot to get a photo). I got myself a slice of the Macadamia Nut Pie to go, which was delicious, especially with vanilla bean ice cream. Everything we've tried here has been consistently good and we've never had a bad experience. If you're planning a visit, try to get there early since popular flavors can sell out. Definitely worth a stop!

In town for the day simply to show me an investment property my family and I might be interested in the very near future, before she departed she had to pick up an order of pies to bring back to her family. Of course, I came along for the ride because I liked pie, but I was curious how good they were if she was willing to fly several of them in her carry-on. Founded by Sandy in October 2009, she quickly adjusted her business model from doing six community events a week to her first retail location in Lihue in 2011. The business continued to grow that led to a second location this time in Kalaheo in 2014. Fast-forward to today, the Kalaheo store is the only one standing, and she has cultivated a strong following both near and far of pie fans and the continued support of the local community. Did I choose the right slice for my first time here!? PURCHASE(S) Mango Lilikoi Pie Slice ($8.50): Their most popular pie, they had me at mango! Filled with plump juicy mangoes combined with the just right amount of lilikoi (passionfruit) and topped with a sugar crust. Juicy sweetness burst in every bite, and I was in pure heaven! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=-IUMWv6HB5wpv9AiQ-Y_bg Macadamia Nut Pie Slice ($8.50): This time, they had me at macadamia! Made with a ton of island macadamia nuts, roasted to a perfect golden brown combined with butter, eggs, sugar, and fresh spices for a nutty tropical sensation, this pie reminded me of a pecan pie but so much better! It was heavy, thick, and required a cold glass of milk to perfectly pair it with. I went nuts for this pie! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=JfthjT1sMLgeXqbfMPGzhA To-Go Containers ($0.50 x2): For my dessert, I've never been charged this before, but I understood businesses needed to cut/pass along costs as much as possible - c'est la vie. Credit Card Surcharge 3.00% ($0.57): Another pass-along fee that has become more prevalent - oh well. SERVICE I was warmly greeted by a young woman behind the counter who gave me time to review the menu while she offered recommendations. Once I ordered, my items were quickly packed and ready to go - mahalo! PARKING (FREE): We were lucky to grab one of the five small spots in front of their shop (it was very difficult to back out due to the heavily-trafficked thoroughfare). Otherwise, I wasn't sure where else you could park nearby - be prepared. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A country shop-like and ice-cream parlor feel with a couple of wooden tables, pie display https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=5gAkOcUYZ1pbgpC8UZq5xg cases, a pie menu https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=vSyaGOufl1cmq9OBOppvPw hung from the ceiling behind the counter, counters and shelves with merchandise, and an open entry way that welcomed you https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=jSiOeD6ISWVAot4Qkz2e1A in for a treat. Plenty of natural lighting came through the large front doors and windows while soul-sucking fluorescent electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs, while pop music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=120&select=53zRcRMKuNaS23ufwnBORw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL The Right Slice offered magical pies both savory and sweet (I must return to try a savory one!) all made from scratch and with a ton of love. The care and pride was tasted in each incredible bite, and I wished I had one to bring back with me after I ate each slice back at the resort. Everything tasted phenomenal, the prices may've been a tad high (but well worth it!), and the service was calming and straightforward. Plus, I always loved to try and support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $19.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS
