Popo's Cookies - Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut
    Jackie C.

Popo's Cookies was a cute little shop on Kauai. It's tucked in the back behind a couple other businesses, so a little hard to find. The cookies were very yummy! We picked up a couple bags when we went into the shop. The cookies are harder cookies but have plenty of flavor that burst in your mouth. There's only 2 people allowed inside because of COVID and the space is so small. The lady working inside was super friendly and nice. Definitely stop by Popo's Cookies when you're on Kauai.

This is a cute little cookie shop. The cookies are terrific - especially the coconut cookies and the chocolate chip macadamia cookies. These are crisp cookies. The person at the counter was not in a good mood but it was a hot day and she looked like she had a long one already. I will be back for more of the coconut cookies. Price was $5.75 per bag in July 2023. No discount for buying multiple bags.

Great little cookie shop with delicious light, crunchy cookies!! The owners: Erin & Kevin are wonderful people who are very passionate about their shop and put out very good cookies!! We especially enjoyed the chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies, chocolate chip, and butter cookies. Ambiance here is super clean, organized and fun with the shop tucked behind the main road in a little alley area with outside tables and other eateries nearby. Highly recommend checking them out and plz say hello to the owners!!

This is still the best cookies in Kauai. Our family favorites are the Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cookie and the Macadamia Nut Shortbread Cookie. This is an absolute must stop when visiting Kauai. You will not be disappointed.

    Mother enjoying Popo's cookies

Came here as a quick stop for a sweet treat before our flight. Cookies were good, shop was small but cute! The employee was nice and we were in and out quick. As for the cookies themselves, everyone loved them. We got peanut butter, chocolate macadamia, and keola deelites. Would recommend this place to anyone hanging out in Hanapepe!

We were walking around town and happened to be lured in by the sweet smell of butter! My aunt and I stopped in and purchased a few bags and she even scooped some "butter dreams"' off the pan and put them in the bag! Erin was kind enough to leave the bag unsealed as we paid for our goods and proceeded to munch down the entire bag on the way back to the car. Somehow we left a morsel for the others to try, and the first bite sealed the deal! We hauled ourselves back out of the car to go get more!!! These cookies are so buttery, crunchy, and delicious yet so simple with pure ingredients! Alllsooo if you are like us and are pursuit while on the islands for cornflake cookies, look no further!! Such a hidden gem and so excited we found them!

Almond cookie! Tastes traditional and I enjoyed the almond flavor

We were wandering around around Hanapepe during its Art Night (every Friday 5-8pm), and followed the signs for Popo's Cookies. With live music playing in a beautiful & quaint courtyard, we were already greeted with a lovely ambience. A really nice couple owns the shop! After buying the almond cookies, we tried the butter cookie samples and they were SO GOOD. So I'm definitely going to come back for the different flavors. I got almond because "Popo" means grandma in Chinese, and I wanted to try Chinese cookies. I really enjoyed reading the history of Popo's Cookies through their website and through others' reviews here! It's an establishment with lots of history, preserved by the currently owners.

These are my favorite crispy chocolate chip cookies -- ever. Each time I come to visit the island I have to stop and buy a bag, or 10

Their cinnamon mini toasts are also another addicting treat. Times a convenient affair when Aloha Sweet Delites is not only a bakery but also in tandem as a great mini grocery store. Case and point: I found their corn nuts insanely addicting after the first kennel was chewed loudly lol. I'd definitely frequent this bakery-convenience store whenever in the area. There were so many other baked goods I didn't get to try but will remedy that in the foreseeable future. Only regret is my inability to enjoy their honeydew tapioca if I was to avoid an allergic reaction to the melon. Will wait for another melon or fruit tapioca. It's such a cute little mom-and-pop spot, super welcoming and simple in the best way. The second you walk in, it just feels warm and genuine. The roasted pork rice dish was honestly the best I've ever had in my life. The pork was perfectly cooked, so flavorful along with the cravy, and everything tasted incredibly fresh and homemade. Best mac salad as well. They have other rice dishes too, can't wait to come back to try these. You can really tell how much care goes into the food here. And the malasadas... easily some of the freshest we had in Kauai. Soft, warm, and just perfect -- the kind you wish you had ordered more of right away. They have both simple malasadas and filled ones (get the coconut one!!!) The whole experience honestly felt like you were eating at your auntie's house. So comforting, so friendly, and just really special. If you're anywhere near Hanapepe, this place is 100% worth stopping for. Unfortunately being from Oahu with having Leonard's Bakery malasadas, these malasadas were rather mid compared to that. The guava filling was the artificially flavored type. The thing I loved most about it was that the java chips were small enough where it never got stuck in the straw and was evenly consistent with every sip. By far the best java chip mocha frappuccino in my book! I'd come back for this one. It made starbucks seem mid tbh. Service was friendly and efficient. And the ambiance, though quite small it was fresh with the smell of a malasadas bakery :) Plus a few tables and plenty parking outside. Overall I'd give it a 4 stars. In town for the day simply to show me an investment property my family and I might be interested in the very near future, before she departed she had to pick up an order of pies to bring back to her family. Of course, I came along for the ride because I liked pie, but I was curious how good they were if she was willing to fly several of them in her carry-on. Founded by Sandy in October 2009, she quickly adjusted her business model from doing six community events a week to her first retail location in Lihue in 2011. The business continued to grow that led to a second location this time in Kalaheo in 2014. We stopped by on a Tuesday around 8:30AM and got our pick of malasadas to try out! Kauai Bakery is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of ample parking, making it very easy to stop by and grab some delicious pastries. Service is like your typical bakery, you pick what you would like and they get it to you so you can stuff your face immediately after purchase. Ambiance is cozy with plenty of pastries to pick from in the large display case. We got 4 flavors of Malasadas for $16, which is $4 per doughnut, which I think is a decent price for the size and heft. The flavors we sampled were Lilikoi, Coconut, and Guava - out of these flavors, the coconut one was my personal favorite! The flavor was exactly what I would want anything coconut cream flavor should taste, creamy texture with a pleasant coconut taste that didn't taste artificial at all. It captured the floral background taste that is missing from a lot of coconut desserts that makes coconut so pleasing to eat! The Lilikoi one was my next favorite, it had a slight tartness and a more subtly pronounced flavor - I think I was looking for something stronger personally. Lastly was the guava one, which actually tasted a bit artificial and didn't have a pronounced flavor at all, which was unfortunate. Despite this critique, I would still glady inhale 2 or 3 of them because the dough was really pillowy and really enjoyable to eat. I think that the pastries here (at least the malasadas) are very solid and priced competitively vs most things here on Kauai. I would totally come back to get several more of the malasadas as well as try the other pastry options on the menu. Stop by and give this bakery a try if you are in the area!
