What a cool place?…read more Whenever we are out and about and checking out new things, we always try to find some good local coffee. We took the kids to Genoa and after wanted to warm up a bit. This coffee place has always been one that we've seen whenever we've driven out of town to go to SoCal and always said "we need to check this place out someday". Super glad that we finally did, I got a peppermint latte and the wife got a toffee latte. They even have locally made ice cream and the kids enjoyed chocolate brownie, and cookies and cream. The lattes were both great flavored and really well made with beans brewed from Old World Coffee (Reno) beans. Which is our favorite roaster in the area. Honestly with our travels out of state and internationally, we found that Old World has the best roasted beans around. There's plenty of space in the main part of the coffee shop and a side room with a community table and even an area for kids to play and read books. I wish we had a good coffee place like this in the Sparks area. This will definitely be a staple when we're in town.

We stopped in on this trip in the afternoon, so grabbed a couple of iced tea and tried their chicken pesto quiche. It was a nice snack for us to share between us. We'll keep coming!

More like, 3.5 stars…read more The ambiance is great. Located in the heart of "downtown" Genoa, you get amazing views of the mountains and that quaint small town vibe. Customer service has been super friendly and sweet. You feel welcome as soon as you walk in. A unique feature they have is a little play room in the back for your kids. It's rare to find these in food establishments, but is a God send when you have a squirmy toddler that won't allow you to have a peaceful meal. Why 3.5 stars? Because the the quality and creativity of food is lacking for the price charged. Menu items are extremely basic. I tried the breakfast tacos, croissant boat, honeycomb waffle, honey nut latte, and cowgirl latte spread out during 2 different visits. As far as the food, there really isn't anything unique or special about the items. Literally, just scrambled eggs with bacon or Canadian bacon mixed in. For the tacos, you get 2 per order ($8.00) My husband wanted one with bacon crumbles and one with Canadian bacon. For something that I assumed is made to order, they could not accommodate. They could only do 1 kind of protein per order which made no sense. Scramble 1 egg, add bacon, scramble another egg, add Canadian bacon. Add to each taco shell. Done. My husband ended up ordering 2 separate orders just so he could have both proteins. The honeycomb waffle is also served pretty basic. For the price you get 1 waffle for $10. For an extra $1.00 you can get berries on it. See photo for the $1.00 worth of berries you get. For the amount of berries they put on it, it should be included in the $10. Or charge $14 and pile on the fruit! The waffle already comes drowning in syrup which made it soggy and too sweet. I've only had flavored lattes here and I find them to be too sweet. Maybe just a regular unflavored latte would taste better. The food and ambiance do not match. If the food was more imaginative, unique (like the decor), and more "gourmet-ish", the prices would be justified.

That's surprising considering the really tasty selections and in generous portions. We all love Indian food and was Chicken Tikka Masala or Goat Vindaloo, everything was delicious. IN hindsight, we would have skipped the appetizer as there turned out to be more than enough food for our mains. And when Gayle and I come back, we may seriously consider splitting a main (plus Naan). Gayle and I figured that with all the food that we gave to her mother to take home, she was good for a couple days worth of meals. Odd that they don't carry Indian beer, although they offer other selections. I also enjoyed a Mango Lassi as my pre-dinner drink. Anyway, in a town where there seems to be a Mexican Restaurant on every corner, come on over to Flame of India for something completely different and worthwhile.

Nice, airy dining area (but no beer on tap despite the taps at the bar) and good food. We had: Cauliflower Pakoras: definitely the highlight of our meal 5* Bhindi Masala (Okra) ; also very good Chicken Vindaloo: lacking in in flavor and spice which is especially disappointing for a Vindaloo So 4* including my gratitude for serving Indian food around here

I wanted some breakfast without having to go to an IHOP or Denny's. The place is TINY. Mostly 2-top tables and a handful of booths and bar seating. If you are seated at a regular table, expect to be friendly with the guests next to you. It's such tight quarters that you can't help but start having conversations with the people next to you. I got the pork chops with eggs and hash browns. You get 2 decent sized bone-in pork chops. They were well seasoned and juicy. Really good. My son got a pancake from the kid's menu that was shaped like a Mickey Mouse head. It was huge. I got a sausage patty to go with it. This was the only sub-par item as it was dry and lifeless. I feel like it was sitting on the flat top or under a heat lamp for hours. It wasn't worth eating. Other than that, the food we had over all was good. The service was OK. The morning we went, it seemed like there was only 1 server for the entire restaurant. She was taking orders, serving, AND bussing tables. So, the quality of service wasn't the best. She was rushed. Glad I was able to try a local spot.

It was rainy, and so everybody was indoors, and it was kind of crowded, but that's a testament to the quality of the food. Our bartender, Maddy, was energetic and friendly, and it didn't hurt that she grew up six doors down on our street. My wife, ever the hugger, was thrilled to see her, and you could tell they had a mutual fondness for each other. So if you're into day drinking, and it's a Sunday, this is a great stop. Quality, alcohol, friendly faces, what look like good food, and a clean and pleasant environment made this the place to stop. Rest assured, we will be back

As I was perusing through the menu, I noticed that many of the dishes have a southern/cajun twist. We learned that the chef was from Mississippi. We ordered: - Beet marinated deviled eggs w/crispy prosciutto. Very good! Worth ordering. The yolk mixture had a little kick to it. - NOLA BBQ shrimp. SO GOOD, but crazy spicy! But, I know heat tolerance is subjective. Aside from the spiciness, the flavors were spot on. You can taste the wine, butter and spices. It was so flavorful and you can sop up all that goodness with the bread it comes with. - Green Tomatoes Tchoupitoulas. Delicious! You get a stack of fried green tomatoes and it's smothered in crab & crawfish. I would get this again. - Beer can chicken. This is the only item we had that I felt we coulda bypassed. Didn't really taste like anything special other than just a regular roasted chicken. It was served with corn which was over cooked and potato salad which was under cooked. I took the chicken home, but left the corn and potatoes behind. They have an extensive cocktail menu which had great cheeky names to them. Service was fine. The day we went, it did take a while for our apps to arrive and then an even longer time to receive entrees. I can only imagine that the kitchen was backed up? I noticed other tables surrounding us had the same issues. One of the other tables said out loud that their food was taking forever. I noticed that they arrived 10-15 min after we did. All that aside, I would definitely be back to try other items. Keep in mind, they are pricey averaging at $30 and up.
