THIS PLACE IS AMAZING AND NOT HYPED UP ENOUGH. First off, the decor is incredible. You feel like you're stepping into an Eastern European home. The menu is still large, despite COVID. As soon as you walk in, there's a pastry counter with treats that look to die for. Our server was so knowledgeable and friendly. He made great recommendations and didn't try to steer us towards the most expensive things. He gave me a tasting of the wines I wanted too! They were out of the Octoberfest meal so we got the Bratwursts meal and the Carbonara. For appetizer we had the pretzel and it was yummy. We needed some food and decided to stop here for a bit. Most of the food was bland and mediocre at best. The amount of schnitzel you get for $28 is criminal and the spatzel was bland. I would rather have some other side options. This is their lunch price too, which is pretty insane. Decided to order a pretzel for $14 with beer cheese (a $4 charge). The pretzel was alright, no better than anything you'll get a movie theater or pretzel stand. It's a good thing I ordered the beer cheese because the mustard wasn't very good. Hot apple cider was nice. Nothing too special. Service was attentive. The restaurant itself is cozy and a nice cabin vibe. Fits the area. Booked reservations for a Friday night and so glad we did! We sat inside. The ambience is warm, rustic and charming. I ordered the truffle bratwurst and my friend ordered the schnitzel and we shared. Both plates were fantastic! The brats came with a sauerkraut that was a highlight for me. Don't think of that stuff you get on a hot dog. This was warm and perfectly soft and a bit sweet. Yum! The schnitzel was very thin with a tasty breading and sweet/tart ligonberry compote on the side. Read the menu to see what else comes on the plates. Everything was done to perfection. For drinks I had a very good Paulaner Munich lager. Note: the small is a normal size beer. My friend had an alcoholic hot cider and also a white wine. Both good and served in pretty glassware. We visited Vail during Thanksgiving and this was one of the few places open. We didn't have a reservation but luckily we didn't have to wait to be seated. The place felt really cozy and the staff was super friendly. All of the food we ordered was delicious and the portions were one the larger side. The Germüse Curry was a stand out dish for us, really hearty and tasty, perfect to warm up on a cold day! Our only complaints were that we asked for appetizers to be delivered first and the entrees afterwards but everything arrived at the same time and no one in our party enjoyed the cheese dip for the pretzel or the Herzhaftes Käsefondue. These were not deal breakers for us at all, and to be fair we really did not know what to expect with regards to our food since we don't often have German food. Food has been a little too Americanized for my taste with deep fried potato pancake and Caesar dressing that tastes more like Italian. Ok so I have been missing Germany and Austria something fierce; it's been almost a year to the date since my last trip and I have been craving this food immensely. Naturally being 9 months pregnant I couldn't just book a flight when I heard the terrible news that my father sold his property in Hallstatt and was buying a boat to sail the Mediterranean, so having a quick Babymoon weekend in Vail was the next best thing! I knew I for sure was going to have a meal because I needed this comfort food I grew up on. Denver is lacking in good European food, so it's not easy accessible when I am craving. Luckily Alpenrose came through. First off the ambiance is amazing! You absolutely feel like you are in a German mountain tavern. The temperature was just perfect, I highly recommend sitting outside if weather permits. It's just so lovely out there. So we really went all out glutton because, well as I mentioned you can't just find this food anywhere. So I 100% have the palate of an old man, and I absolutely love Weisswurst. They serve it as an appetizer and serve two boiled sausages with a whole pretzel too. I could have totally gotten this as a meal. It was a great app for two people though as well . The sausage was flavorful and so tender and tasty dipped in the mustard. A great way to begin the meal. Alfie got the ZARTES KALBSGULASCH which I will say is a different Goulash than I am used to but it was still very tasty.y Austrian father would make more of a traditional onion, caraway, paprika, garlic goulash which I absolutely LOVE, and I will choose the traditional every day, however this was a good variation that I hadn't had before. If I were to describe it I would say it almost reminded me of a mix between goulash and stroganoff. It was a bit creamier and heavy mushroom flavor if you like that. Alfie loved it. He also dipped my mash potatoes (I don't like potatoes) in his goulash sauce and said that was his favorite flavor combo. I got the SCHWEINEBRATEN which was so tender and the gravy it was served with....so good. I was in absolute heaven. Also as I love spätzle I stole some of Alfies and it was so tasty in that delicious gravy. All in all everything was so good. It was authentic and made me incredibly happy and nostalgic. We had an amazing time experiencing the Gondola at Alpen Rose! The Gondola experience comes with a pre-fixed 2 course meal including a delicious jumbo pretzel, a selection of meats and cheeses, potatoes, and veggies to be cooked on the hot plate in front of you. I recently had dinner at Alpenrose with a couple of friends and we all really enjoyed it. They promptly sat us at our reserved time and gave us a table on their back patio as requested. We walked through the restaurant to get there and found the traditional wooden Austrian decor charming. We all shared a giant warm pretzel with mustard and enjoyed a variety of salads for dinner. Visited them for a Gondola Experience on a Wednesday evening. Made reservations two weeks in advance. The service was very nice and attentive. Our teenager loved the experience and the food was ok. I still would rate the gondola experience at 4 stars because of the overall experience. Also, we stopped by to get a dessert here on a separate occasion and for that I would rate them at a 5. They have a very authentic dessert menu. The best part is that the dessert has just the right amount of sugar. The very European type indeed. We had an apple cake, cherry cake and the cake filled with cream. All were wonderful big pieces. We tried really hard to stay away for the remainder of our trip :). The menu is really interesting and authentic and so is the set up at the restaurant. Please make room on your schedule to eat here when you visit Vail! The cutest restaurant in Vail! I love the decor of this place. The wooden seats have cute heart cutouts and the glasses are also so cute. I love the old Bavarian cabin feel of the place. And I love the pretzel! It comes on a cop antler display! We always get the pretzel with the obazda dip! A special cheese sauce that's so so yummy! The special Austrian soda was yummy and is a good non alcoholic drink. We tried the mandarin orange cheesecake and I found the cheese to be grainy so not made properly but the mandarin orange combination was super interesting. We also had the Apple strudel and it was so good! In the past we've tried the plum tart and that was also great! Always good service and nice people! read more

We had a really nice lunch on the patio here. Servers were super attentive and prompt. We started with the pretzel, warm, soft and served with a nice cheese sauce for dipping. Then I had the classic schnitzel and spaetzle and my partner had pasta carbonara. Overall a very pleasant experience, but the breading on the schnitzel was heavy and a bit soggy, and the price was high (typical for Vail), so four stars but still a recommended experience, just maybe avoid the schnitzel. read more

The Smoked Salmon and Rosti stole the show for dinner. My hubs thought the pork schnitzel was ok, would'nt get it again. We enjoyed some of the house cocktails (aperol spritz), which had really beautiful presentations. We had the Black Forest cake for dessert, and were underwhelmed. I booked a reservation for 7 and we all had a really nice time. The waiter did a good job. Reasonable beer prices and I was able to get a liter which is always a good choice. Apps were excellent and would recommend the potato balls, the fondue, or the pretzel. The schnitzel was comparable to the one I had in Vienna. Good crisp texture on it but the real thing that brought me back was the lignonberry sauce they had which is authentic. Also loved the mushroom gravy sauce that came with it. I highly recommend it! For only $99 per person, you get a champagne toast, a bottle of both red and white wine, a bottle of still and sparking water and a 3 course meal. Such a steal! If you're visiting vail, you must add this to your list. Trust me! I absolutely loved the experience, we had more than enough to eat and drink. Definitely an unforgettable dinning experience. Vail is adorable!! This place was right in the vail village, right on the main strip. There was indoor and outdoor seating and we sat outside! Our server, Jackson, was so sweet! He helped us through the menu and was gray at recommendations. The servers wear German outfits so you really feel like you're in Switzerland!! The rosti ballchen appetizer was amazing, they are deep fried cheese balls with ham. SO GOOD. The dipping sauces it came with were also tasty! I wasn't in love with the schnitzel but my friend who ordered it loved it! The dessert was also very fresh and tasty. Just a quick review for our afternoon snack. It was a beautiful warm sunny day in Vail and we were able to snag a table on the deck. We ordered a huge pretzel with melty cheese, a cheese fondue called Herzhaftes Kasefondue and I had the Swiss mountain cheese soup called Scheizer Bergkasesuppe. I'm a sucker for cheese soup and when I see it on the menu I will order it. Everything was great, the warm pretzel with the tasty hot cheese. The fondue was excellent and had a little cheesy bite to it and the Swiss cheese soup was one of the best cheese soups I ever had and I've been to Wisconsin many times and love their Beer Cheese soups. I know its different but they're both great. One note about the service which was excellent, not only because the server tracked me down while I was getting on the bus to give me my CC which I absentmindedly left on the table...but he was helpful and courteous. For an app, we had the Rosti Ballchen which is potato balls stuffed with Swiss cheese, bacon and sour cream. They were delicious. I had the tastiest tomato soup that was served with feta which I LOVED. Others at the table had the brats, the schnitzel, and the Quinoa Rosti which was Swiss veggie potato pancakes served with quinoa salad, carrots, almonds, zucchini, bell pepper, cashews, pumpkin seeds and grapes. We went here the second day they were open during the 2019-20 ski season. The servers were super apologetic but everything was perfect so I'm not sure what was going on. I think they were trying to get into a groove again and weren't used to the restaurant being packed the second day they were open. But the service and drinks were great. My husband ordered a small beer (there were 3 sizes to choose from) and the guy delivered a tiny thimble sized beer with the line, "Did you just order a small beer in a German restaurant?" It was a pretty cute joke and the real beer was behind the server's back. The schweizer bergsalat (a knife and fork salad) and schnitzel were both amazing! I swear the schweizer bergsalat was a whole head of lettuce. The ambiance was cute and fun. Everyone that helped us were super fun and friendly. I can't wait to visit again. read more
