We took our guests who were in town from Vienna to see how close Alpenrose was to the food that they're used to getting in Austria. Man, did they deliver! Food was terrific! Service was unmatched! Normally, we don't do desserts, but when we saw the selection behind the glass, we couldn't resist. This place was a nice surprise. Enter and you will feel as if you've been transported to the Alps and left Vail behind. This place is in the dictionary under quaint. This is a good thing. Every detail sends the message, from the rustic chic plates and glasses to the wait staff's outfits. The place is charming. The food is good too. I had a mulled wine cocktail that is served in a special cup with a device to hold a piece of burning sugar. The drink was warm and delicious and just what I needed to fight the post ski chill. We had tasty fondu and a spread of charcuterie that was good. I had the goulash with spetzel (sp?) and enjoyed it. My son had a tasty pretzel which came out hanging on an antler which amused the whole table. So many touches that made the dining experience fun. Recommended. read more

We sat on the sun drenched deck for apre ski, the deck is very rustic with faux fur blankets and warm fluffy blankets on the Woden benches to keep warm when the sun starts to set. Awesome spot and very good food. We had the pretzel with cheese sauce, potato soup and the house salad. All three were very good. Of course there is a nice selection of Austrian and German beers. Next time we will try it for dinner. Overall the apre ski food, the ambience and service warrant 5 stars. read more

This is the sister restaurant to AlmResi but with a similar but slightly different menu. Everything about this place is amazing....from the decor and ambiance....to the German and Austrian beer....to the delicious food. Wonderful new place from the owners of Almresi. If you haven't tried Almresi, you should. It is authentic, cozy, gracious service and a place we love to frequent. Now, with Alpenrose reinvigorated by the Joshua and his Almresi crew, this place is a wonderful place for lunch on the patio during the summer with authentic German food, great beers and wonderful service. I will definitely be coming back to this place over and over again. For summer, it is just what Vail needed. For winter, it will be a wonderful Apres place. We went there for dinner on a weekend getaway to Vail. We were greeted and seated immediately. Service was excellent and the staff was friendly. We had several servers throughout the evening. Our main server, Joshua was attentive and fun. He really helped set a jovial mood to the evening. Food was excellent and seems authentic, though I'm not an expert in alpine cuisine. Darling little place with the wait staff in costume and German music playing in the background. Quaint decor with white eyelid window coverings and an old ski chairlift that reads "first date" chair. Authentic Austrian cuisine including all the regulars as well as a variety of soups and delicious deserts. Really nice atmosphere and great food! The two waiters we spoke with were from Freiburg and Salzburg, and they were very friendly and quick to offer recommendations. One member of my party, who spent a lot of time in Germany, was favorably impressed by the authenticity of the decor. We had the Weiner Art, the Käsespätzle, the Bratwurst, the pasta carbonara, and the potato soup. Everyone loved their food. We would definitely visit here again! read more

This is one of my favorite places to enjoy a cold beer in the valley. Situated in a quiet, yet energy filled area of town, Alpenrose has the best German / Bavarian food in the valley. The beer selection is supreme!!! Owner Josh explained it was a lot of work achieving an 80% foreign draft, but the effort was totally worth it!! I come for the Paulaner hefeweizen, it's so hard to find on draft unless... Service is always amazing and very polite and welcoming. It's hard to find family owned businesses with such pride! Big disappointment. When we arrived for lunch, they were still cleaning the restaurant. I had a large salad. It had about 4 slices of "Swiss" cheese and a lot of lumps of iceberg lettuce, a few blueberries and a couple of walnuts. My husband ordered an appetizer which was mostly a deep fried potato. An hour later the restaurant is empty.... I wonder why? read more

Awesome stuff. We did take-away, which is always a bit of a let-down by the time you get it back to your place. But, it was all still very good. We had the veal goulash, and the smoked salmon plates. Very satisfying. You won't leave hungry. However, I'd skip the apple strudel dessert in the future. It's a small portion, and kind of your average apple strudel. Certainly not worth the price, even by Vail standards. read more

Yelp, you let me down. I'm surprised by the glowing reviews. Uncomfortable seating and *meh* food that was ready in ten minutes. Obviously pre-made and not cooked to order. The schnitzel was meh. Spaetzle, meh. Goulash, okay, but one-note. Potato rosti was the one very good item. Apple strudel, while good, was very small and not worth $14. The German Sauvignon Blanc was $19 a glass and bland. Looking for an afternoon snack/drink with the family, we stumbled across Alpenrose after checking out and leaving the Swiss restaurant down the street which wanted $60 for fondue!! We were pleasantly surprised that not only was the ambiance great, but the food/service/prices were great! We had the $15 fondue appetizer, pretzel and weisswirst sausage dishes along with great beer and Prosecco. Great find, recommend you check it out. read more

I don't review much, so when I do, it is absolutely worth it. From the cocktails, to the appetizer, to the entree... the food was absolutely authentic and perfection. We had the Rosti Ballchen to start, followed by the Schnitzel. We drank a couple of gin based drinks- a Lavender Tonic, and a (in English, I believe) a "Bees Knees".... everything was fantastic. The ambiance is rustic German farmhouse with farm style seating. Small chairs and bench style seating adorned with sheepskins. Sarah served us, and she, along with the rest of the waitstaff, are from Central Europe to add to the experience. 10/10, absolutely will return. Probably tomorrow for coffee and cake! We dined here on the night they opened. The menu has a lot of German dishes that are hard to find in the US. We shared a salad and braised veal. The break was tender and cooked to perfection. The red cabbage that came with the dish was outstanding. The furniture is made from reclaimed barn wood that was imported from Switzerland, and it gives a warm, comfortable feeling. The staff was friendly and helpful. We are looking forward to returning on this and future trips to Vail. read more
