Amazing experience in the Gondola. It was pretty cold outside (-6 at the time) so dress accordingly! They have a small heater that will help some what. Pablo, our waiter for the night, was amazing! The ambiance and waitress aside, the food at this place was atrocious. The pretzel came within seconds of us ordering it and was stale, tasting like it was made days ago. Our entrees also arrived within minutes of ordering, clearly having been made earlier in the day. The spatzle was dry and tasteless, the schnitzel was not good and the goulash was fine. I get it if we were party six plus you could do that but 2 adults with one kid plus dog! this doesn't make any sense to me at all! I believe this is the sister restaurant to Almresi, which also serves German cuisine. First things first, the inside of the restaurant is so beautiful. It really just makes you feel like you're up in the Alps or in Bavaria. The food is really good, a bit on the high end. I've been to Germany dozens of times and I think a lot of Germans would probably laugh at paying as much as we did for schnitzel. However, the food is really good and the service was fantastic.One funny thing is that apparently they only hire servers and wait staff that speak German/Austrian. And if you don't, they won't hire you LOL. That was according to our waitress because we asked her where she learned German since she's from Edwards. Anyways, I was a little disappointed by the apfelstrudel only because it was a little cold and needed more sugar. The charcuterie was good too but the meat is a lot heavier than what you'd typically get on an Italian charcuterie board. But I will say you get a shit ton of cheese. read more

This darling restaurant is beautifully decorated and very welcoming. I had a pretzel with cheese sauce, which left me too full to eat my salad. My husband loved his schnitzel, one of the best he's had. But, I've buried the lede: dessert was amazing! He had the apfelstrudel, which was traditional and delicious. I tried the kaiserschmarrn, which is kind of like a cross between French bread and bread pudding, which came with creme anglaise and cherry compote. Heaven! First things first, this restaurant is SUPER cute and has loads of character. So charming! My cocktail was so amazing that I had 2 (their version of the Moscow mule). For my entree, I ordered an appetizer and have no idea what it was called but basically flat bread with sour cream, bacon and purple onion. The most random combo but it was SO. DAMN. GOOD. We booked this place for party of 8, they weee nice to move us inside we had concerns how cold outside with two kids. Service was super slow. Food was average or below. Appetizers: fondue, pretzels, ham balls. Fondue was disappointing, also can feed way more than 2 ppl. Pretzels, same beer cheese was way better than fondue. Balls were the best with the jam. Only one of would order again. We got snitzle, pork was mostly breading but had very overwhelming pork taste. Only way I can describe it. Spatzle with gravy was great. It was huge, asked if we could split she said no, umm could have split it. Friend got salmon pasta, she said was terribly fishy. Hot chocolate was the best thing I had. Apple strudel was good, would have been better with ice cream but they didn't have. Overall I don't see ya returning. Service was slow and food was subpar. Last season this was our favorite restaurant in Vail. We went there very exited for their opening on Thanksgiving and there are definitely a lot of issues to be worked out. My duck was not crispy and my 11 year old ordered the cheese fondue entre. Instead he was served the appetizer cheese fondue, which might have been ok, except for it being prepared with alcohol - and it tasted distinctly of it. We first arrived at the newer sister restaurant and since there was a private party that rented out the entire venue we went to Alpenrose. The decor and staff dress was cute - but the food definitely underwhelming. We were told the special was pork schnitzel w mushroom gravy and that it was not on the menu. It in fact was a regular item on the menu. It came out as a nice presentation but lack quality and flavor. Definitely could have used more mushrooms gravy but the flavor wasn't the best. The schnitzel tasted like chicken actually, not pork. Sorry but I can make it better at home. Ordered a side of red cabbage which saved the dinner. As a former Vail resident and one who frequents the area, I was really surprised at the inhospitable experience we received from our server on Saturday afternoon, especially when I've always had food/service that is on par with the best restaurants in San Fran, NYC, London. The food was great, so no complaints there. The server was rude, inattentive, dismissive and unavailable. We were celebrating the 1 year anniversary of our German Aupair joining our family. Upon receiving our menus I let the server know that I have a severe food allergy, I asked her help making suggestions (like the menu suggested). Her response was you can have anything that doesn't have wheat, she then pointed me to the schnitzel. Knowing that most schnitzels are breaded, I asked her what flour was used. When she didn't know, I asked if she would consult one of her peers or the chef for gluten free recommendations. She came back and said the pork shank, so that was the only option provided. -server never "greeted the table" or introduced herself -server took a break on the adjacent bench and chatted with a friend, we were waiting to receive water at this point (our glasses were empty, we flagged down her peer who filled our waters) -server was uninformed about the menu items, didn't know what was gluten free, didn't know if there was a sauce on the pork shank -server was rude, when our Aupair asked what dressings were available she told her to look at the menu vs reminding her what was available (there were 3 dressing options) -we were not provided water or silverware until we requested them, this was after our food arrived. -we had to request to have our water refilled -once the food was delivered she dropped off the check, she never asked us about the food, if we wanted dessert, another drink, etc (she missed out on more sales) read more
