Fair enough, easy fix. Instead, they chopped it off on the passenger side. About a day later, the noise was back. I crawled under the car and could see the drivers side was doing the same. I took a screwdriver and bent the shield out of the way and noise never returned. I'm just baffled that they didn't know how to fix the issue easily or without a less destructive way. Tells me they didn't test drive it or really diagnose the issue to begin with.

We needed to get back home but I didn't want to drive 100 miles back (in the snow and ice) without first getting a mechanic to judge if the car was safe to drive. I called several repair shops and explained our dilemma but they all were too busy. I tried Anglers and after explaining our dilemma, they made space for me. After 20 minutes they had the problems fixed! Amazingly fast and talented. These days it's so hard to get that kind of service but Anglers stepped up and helped us. I highly recommend these folks. Also, the battery was bad and needed to be replaced. The battery recovered overnight after I asked for my battery back to return since it was only 12 months of the 36 month of Interstate's warranty. Manager Jay told me a car's alternator does not charge the battery. Then at the end of the next day Global Car Care called to say after the test drive it was not shifting properly so needed to replace the Steering Rack and Tie Rods of a cost of $2,069.21. I declined and picked up the car, no improvement in problem. - cost of $456.31 I then took the car to Town Toyota, they quickly identified the problem as a loose steering rack bolt that needed to be tightened. They tightened the bolt and all other cradle bolts, reset all sensors, and front wheel alignment. The total cost for Town Toyota service department to resolve problem and improve drivability in a half day was $347.10.

My car suddenly started leaking oil recently. I took it into H&D Auto to be looked at, and they…read morediagnosed it as leaking head gaskets. They told me that "both sides are leaking pretty bad" and that the job would be $2500 plus. I got a second opintion at another shop and it turns out the issue was simply that the oil pan plug was loose. When I thought about it, I had just had an oil change when the leak started. We surmised that the shop that did the oil change didn't tighten the plug. I asked the mechanic how the head gaskets looked and he said they looked fine. No issues. No leaks. He sent me on my way without charging me. The oil leak is gone. My understanding is that the long time owner, Harry is selling the shop. He is phasing out and letting the new owner take over the work. I think when Harry was running H&D, it was an honest place to take your car. It doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I'm very disappointed in the work done on my vanagon. First of all, the mechanic (don't know his…read morename) told us the engine rebuild would be done in a month. The van was finally done after 4 months, and it was clear that it wasn't being worked on efficiently. It was super disappointing because we were planning on taking it on our honeymoon which we weren't able to do. And now, lo and behold, it's still not up and running. Mechanic decided not to fix the starter, so we're stuck with more work to be done on the engine. Another thing is the shop doesn't have a receptionist, so you have to call a couple times to reach the mechanic who will be annoyed you're calling since he had to stop working to answer the phone. He doesn't call with updates either. He also charged us 1000 over the agreed upon price. I'm sure pandemic times have made waiting on parts a more lengthy process, but the fact that we had no idea what was going on and had to call sometimes 8 times to reach someone is completely unprofessional. My advice is to go somewhere else for foreign car work.
