Over a two week period, a team of four people at Sunnyvale Alphagraphics helped me create and print 50 copies of a sophisticated 12 page High Resolution saddle-stitched booklet, with an integrated cover flap. To get my desired result, AG provided 2 hours of creative pre-press services to get booklet setup to print. They provided me with a proof-printing, plus 1 hour of creative services - to fine-tune the reproduction of 12 pages of High Resolution pages curated from textbooks on the most effective Displays of Graphical Information. Alphagraphics has a special printing machine that can print 11 x 25" covers, that allowed the integrated cover flap. The end result proved to be just right for it's intended use and audience. We had a super rush job that needed to print. Edwin were very nice. and communicated well for the cost and the time line. The plan was picking up the drawing then driving to the building department directly. So I brought a stapler and was going to staple them up there but I realized my stapler was too small for the set. The first time I used Alphagraphics Sunnyvale, I gave them three stars. I later raised the rating to four. Today, I am sad to downgrade it to a 2. I like working with them and they do great work. I have been satisfied with everything they have produced for me -- but timing and communications on the most recent job were a horror. A one-week job took 5 1/2 weeks, with one promise after another completely missed, and without them ever telling me they were going to be late until I contacted them (again and again). Proofs came (sent to the wrong person -- twice -- and sent late) with serious errors -- I supplied files but they redesigned it from scratch for no reason, using a completely wrong font (why?!?) and getting a color obviously wrong. I had to bird-dog this job every step of the way. Good news is that the results were fine. But deadlines and communication matter. I was so disappointed because I chose them because they had done good work for me before. I used them previously to print books to hand out at a tradeshow. My previous review: The company gets an A+ for technical skill of the staff and for quality of the product. They knew what they were doing, handled all my questions expertly, and the printed books were great. For the previous job, I downgraded them for their logistics. The printing happened later than promised. They made plans to courier the books (rather than UPS as originally planned). Although they had plans to get the product to us on time, they didn't communicate any of that to me. I had some added shipping cost and had to call the receiving location and change logistics, something I would not have known to do had I not called Alphagraphics. In the previous review, I noted that this seemed to be unusual, that they seemed very competent. Happily, my second experience was great. And both times, I was VERY impressed with the technical skill level and product quality. read more

To put in perspective, I was reaching out from a Seattle based design agency in order to support a Microsoft event taking place in Santa Clara. I used these guys for a quick run of datasheets for my company and for a special project: 2 poly-satin posters for a booth display. I was very happy with the pricing on the datasheets, but the colors ended up a little duller than I thought. BUT it sure beats having to do a run of 300 minimum. That alone is worth 4 stars. The poster was a complete disaster. Whatever their definition of poly satin is, it leaves much to be desired. Its more like poly-vinyl. The material is very shiny, coarse, and translucent so it glares light and if you put it on a wall that is not white, you will see right through it. Absolutely horrendous especially for the price which I had to fight to get a meager discount on. After complaining about the quality of the material I got some lame excuse that the other printer I've used 2 years ago who gave me poly-satin mustve mistaken the fabric for something else. Right. I couldn't use the other firm because I needed quick turnaround and I really wanted to do right for the local business owner instead of the other printer (in SoCal). I just don't see how a printing company can print something like this and not think, man this sucks. Its like if a Chef sends out a plate that he knows is crappy, bad chef. These guys delivered on time but between me submitting and recv'ing, there wasn't much for color checking or anything else that I would expect service wise. When I used SignMySigns to create a vinyl poster they were communicative throughout the whole process and asked me to come by to color match, etc. Unfortunately because the posters look so horrible I have to get them reprinted, so we wasted a couple hundred bucks. I'm doubtful this company would step up and reprint on nice material. read more
