I have a crapload of check-ins here, but no review. I should probably rectify this (well, it does help that my iPod touch does get wireless at UNC. :) You will probably never go here unless you have some reason to be on the UNC Campus. Housed in the student union-ish area around campus, it's real draw is their big cups of coffee. Is the coffee as good as, say, The Daily Grind? Probably not. And the food is okay, but not remarkable (bagels, overpriced fruit cups, etc). But I'd say it's A-OK. They have big cups of coffee. And for someone with an unhealthy caffeine addiction, that's fine by me. (is it a problem that I now refer to giant cups of coffee as "The Precious"?) read more

Awesome bagel and sandwich shop on campus. It was my favorite place grab a bite to eat of all the campus dining options. Lines get incredibly long during the lunch rush, but it's definitely worth it if you have 15-20 minutes to spare. Quality can vary because I think the employees (college students) have a high turn-over rate, but they get it right most of the time. I love the Lox and Cream Cheese, John Wayne (roast beef), Mile High Club (turkey and bacon), Triple Club, and New Yorker. Their orange juice is to die for, though costs a pretty penny since its freshly squeezed. The salads are loaded with all the stuff that makes salads good (not just shredded lettuce), and are definitely meal worthy. Since it's in the Student Union, sometimes it's hard to find a place to eat right there (and it's pretty loud anyway). Go explore and eat a signature bagel at one of the many nearby beautiful places at UNC. read more

Alpine is my favorite to-go place for bagels on campus. It's the only place on campus to get bagels but it's the only place I would go even if there was another place. The service is quick and even if it takes a long time to prepare your order, you know the employees are working as fast as they can. I would recommend alpine to anyone visiting campus. My favorites are the Good Morning camper, Lox and Cream Cheese, and the Triple Club. Don't forget to ask for an extra pickle! read more

Hm... A good friend of mine once worked at Alpine. Let's consult him on the subject. John? John: AH! Bagel! Bagel! No more bagels! That's an actual quote. Unfortunately for John, I don't exactly agree. Alpine is ideally located right on the center of UNC's campus, easily accessible for anyone just walking around. The staff is surprisingly helpful and swift, and the menu is actually pretty varied (for a bagel shop). Pricing isn't bad, although you're definitely paying for the location. Always reliable for a quick bite on the go. The Sully Sauce deserves specific mention. This stuff is a kind of horseradish sauce or something, although I think they also make it with raw happiness, or maybe essence of smiles. It's amazing, so be sure to give it a nod on whatever sandwich you get. read more

I work not far from Alpine Bagels so every once in a while I'll walk over for lunch. I've only ever had the bagel sandwiches but they've always been good. Service has also been OK in my experience, although I've always gone there during off-peak times. I also like how they post the calorie content of everything on their menu. The food isn't repulsive. I've eaten there multiple times because it's convenient and not bad. The BLT bagel is actually really good. But I just can't even give it three stars. Why? Ordered the Oval Office - Bagel with Scrambled eggs, cheese, sausage, hot sauce and red onion. They poured the raw egg mixture into a bowl with the sausage, cheese and hot sauce and then popped it in the microwave for 1:15. 6 bucks for microwaved scrambled eggs? They take 1:15 to make on a stove. Paying 6 bucks for microwaved food sucks. read more

A UNC staple located in the student union, everyone is a fan of Alpine. Head there at 8 am? Line. 12 am? Line. 6 pm? Line. I digress. Alpine's concept is perfect on a college campus...quick sandwiches and bagels that aren't too expensive. I've ordered several of their sandwiches, including the chicken salad and John Wayne (turkey). Let's start with the bagels. They're good. Not great, but good. They have a slight crunch on the outside which is good, but they lack the thickness a good bagel has. Alpine always has several flavors of bagel, and there's always a bagel of the week. The meats are good as well. Again, not outstanding, but they're good and you know what you're getting. The service here has always been above-average to excellent. It's clear the staff loves what they do and are motivated to have a good time while they serve hoards of hungry college students. Alpine is what it should be...a good bagel place that's right in the middle of campus. read more

Okay, I'll admit. I am partial to Alpine because it has been a staple at UNC these past four years I've been here. I used to go ALL the time when I still lived on campus, and then I got bagel-ed out and stopped. But I recently treated myself to a Good Morning Camper and it brought back good memories. The food is consistent. You're paying for a warm bagel with yummy toppings and meats and whatever you want, and it definitely satisfies when you're craving it. It's more of a convenience, because I don't crave it that often..and it IS pretty expensive..be prepared to pay $4-6 for a bagel sandwich...JUST the sandwich. But is there any substitute for Alpine? Nope. If you go to Carolina, then you know you can't escape it. So just accept the fact that you WILL pay that much for a delicious bagel sandwich before/between/after classes. read more

I recently returned to UNC for homecoming, and I had forgotten how excellent Alpine Bagels is. I regularly grabbed a cheap bite here in college. Their bagel and cream cheese flavor options are unique and are all delicious (shout out to the sun dried tomato cream cheese in particular). Their bagel sandwiches are really affordable and are dang good - the perfect combo for college students. Alpine also has really great coffee from Larry's, and they offer specialty coffee drinks and fresh squeezed orange juice. Honestly, you could eat here every day for a month and have something different. Love it, and I wish I could go back to UNC more often to visit this standby! read more

Alpine is a tasty and convenient on-campus option. They offer a great variety of bagels in traditional form and with sandwiches. They also have a good number of coffee flavors which is often useful for students on their way into the library or class. The food is cheap and their bagels and coffee offerings are complimented by lots of sandwiches on loaf bread, salads, yogurts, and fresh fruits. There is adequate seating in the Student Union to enjoy a conversation, but this is also quick enough to grab on the run. read more

The employees are so mean. A girl asked if her bagel had the sauce she asked for because she didn't taste it and the man continued to make fun of her for 10 minutes after she left. They are usually rude anyways. Aside from their food not even being that good. I have had so many friends get food poisoning after eating Alpine. Just don't go. read more

This place is one of the better food choices on campus next to Med Deli, Q Shack and Chik-fil-a. Honestly I think it's a bit overpriced and both times I have gotten one of their bagel sandwiches I was unimpressed. On the bright side they are open really late compared with other options on campus and they have really great seating options.... also their coffee is pretty cheap and they have good selections of side items (like cookies, muffins, chips, fruit etc). read more

This is a great place to dip in and out of, when you're hungry and would like a bagel in the morning or a sandwich or salad in the afternoon. No matter if you commute to RTP by way of bus, work on campus or a student its pretty easy to swing through here. They've got great indoor seating, and 2 big screen TVs going so you can catch up on the latest happenings. There is also outdoor seating which is really nice if you want to enjoy a warm sunny afternoon with your parfait or a salad. read more

Mostly because it's in the same building where I work, I eat at Alpine at least once a week. It's a good place to grab a quick lunch, but if you show up at noon, there WILL be a long line. The staff is mostly friendly and, with the exception of brand new employees, very fast. I usually get the Pole Vault, which has turkey, sprouts, bacon scallion cream cheese, and banana peppers on it. And Alpine doesn't just serve bagels - they also have salads, muffins, cookies, and coffee. Most bagels, sandwiches, and salads are around $5 or $6, which is probably a little too much, but most of the food options at UNC are overpriced and underwhelming, anyway. read more

I didn't actually get a bagel here, but I did have a bowl of fruit and a cup of coffee. The fruit was fresh and varied, and the drinks were all self-serve. The coffee - well, it wasn't bad, and it was bottomless for as long as I studied there. Can't complain about that! Alpine Sucks! Way to expensive, bagels are like bricks. I'm from New York and all I want is a decent bagel. The coffee, now, is repulsive too. I once got a cup with a half an inch of grounds in the bottom. Also, on the second chance that i gave this place, the little woman behind the counter swiped my card twice for my 7 microwaved lunch. When i went back she was rude and I spent 15 minutes there before they would refund me the second charge. I'm done with alpine, and although they are convenient, I make a conscious effort to avoid giving them business. read more
