This used to be the go-to spot for quality breakfast bagel sandwiches but it seems to have fallen in recent years. I've been a long-time customer, even back when they still had the Bruegger's Choice sandwich but my girl and I will probably never return - at least at this particular location. When we went around 8AM on a Saturday, there wasn't a big line but it took longer than expected to complete our order because there were only 3 employees (2 in front, 1 in the back). But that's not even the first disappointing thing. When we asked to order 2 Westerns with extra egg each and the cheesy hashbrowns, the sandwichmaker said that they're sold out of the hashbrowns. That's basic breakfast staple and it's out...or maybe they just don't want to make it because of understaffing issue. While the line wasn't so long when we were on the line it got longer while we were eating inside. So long to the point the line reached outside of the building. The lady at the cashier told the customers, "There's only 3 of us here, so bare with us." twice, which is just unprofessional customer service and bad management. The hazelnut coffee was good - we ordered a couple of Medium-sized, but the coffee ran out and we didn't bother to ask because the employees were so busy, struggling to serve the long line of customers. While the Western sandwiches are still good for the most part, especially with fresh garlic and everything bagel, it seems to be lacking of sauce or cream cheese. In a previous experience, they forgot to add extra eggs to our breakfast sandwiches. While the sandwichmaker remade them with the extra eggs, she asked to donate our first sandwiches. The glory days of Bruegger's might be over but I still hope they can get back to the special breakfast spot we remember. The ambiance looks small, simple, and clean with some seats outside - just right for this kind of bagel spot. Just ordered here today been waiting over an hour now for my food. It was a delivery order but the delivery driver has also been waiting over an hour and I've been canceled on 5 times because they're taking forever to make them. Not only that they canceled over half of my order because they don't have cream cheese. Cream cheese! The most basic thing bagel places should have and they don't have any to make bagels with. But they're also selling individual cream cheese so I don't know why they couldn't use that to make the bagels I'm trying to order for my family. I had previously given a five star rating. I can no longer endorse that after visiting this store today from 7:10-7:30 am. I won't be returning to this store. Today, after getting the wrong order and bringing it back in to ask for the right order, three of the four staff members were incredibly rude after THEY asked me what was Wrong when I simply asked to have the incorrect order replaced. There were other issues - e.g. one person waiting ahead of me, only other person in line - all three staff walked off the floor before taking my order. Once order was taken, somehow 4 people behind me had their orders go into the toaster before the person who took my order came to ask if I wanted my two bagels toasted - which I had stated for both when ordering but at that point said no because it had already taken much longer than expected based on previous experience. I have lived within walking distance of this store for 19 years. Always had a really good experience. Not sure what is going on. I waited almost 20 minutes when there was only one person in front of me (who also ordered a bagel with cream cheese) to get two bagels with cream cheese and paid almost $9 to be treated rudely by three of the four staff. No thank you. I'll go to one of the other two bagel shops close by - bagels are much better anyway. I only continued to go to this store out of loyalty and because of previous incredible customer service. I know why the other shops are so busy now. Even so, Issac's and Brandwein's have never been rude even if they got an order wrong - which happens to everyone. Something has changed with this location in the last 5 years and it's all bad. Every order in the last year has been wrong. I order via DoorDash and I don't have the problems at other restaurants like I do here. The last two chances I gave were for the exact same order, spread out over one month. Sriracha Honey Sunrise and a plain toasted bagel with cream cheese. Both orders were wrong in the exact same way. I didn't even get a sriracha. Both times it was a regular bacon, egg, and "cheese". After standing in line for over 30 minutes, I was quite disappointed by the small amount of meat they put on the lunch bagels (only one slice of turkey on mine) :/ The service was really slow and workers weren't really friendly. We have been to other Bruegger's locations across the country that we loved. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience at this location. The woman who took our order at the front counter gave an audible grunt of disgust when we ordered a dozen bagels sliced. It looked like the slicing machine was out of order so she had to slice them all by hand. She never smiled, never spoke to us, just generally unfriendly. Definitely not the southern hospitality we usually experience. Some of the staff were doing multiple jobs wearing the same pair of gloves, so we question the sanitation. Too bad. read more

Stopped by here after a workout to get a bagel because I had a craving. I used to come here all the time. I even frequented the one that was on Franklin Street over 20 years ago. It was my cozy spot to hang out and get work done While I was in grad school. I don't know what's happened to this place. Once it changed management several years ago, there was a decline in cleanliness. As others have stated, there is dirt and grime everywhere which makes you question what is in the kitchen. It's extremely off putting. When Covid happened, they closed down their dining room. But strangely it is still closed. While traveling by this location, we called ahead to order our food in advance. We are regular patrons of Brueggers and understand the wait can sometimes be long. Seeing as we had 40 minutes before we arrived at the location , we called in our TWO bagel order. The person on the phone was rude and told us it would be 30 minutes or more for two bagels. Ridiculous. It is first come first serve. If my phoned in order comes before someone standing in line, then that is the order that gets priority. Even after arriving, the order was not complete. I watched people give up on waiting in line and leave. This location has the potential to do a lot of business, but it obviously needs a new manager and new way of thinking about how to conduct business. I would also like to suggest an app for ordering bagels like most other places in the 21st century are using. I come here because I love all things bagels and this is really one of the only bagel shops in town. Service- great. Staff are very friendly. Food- delicious. Cleanliness? Not so great. Their dining area has been closed since covid, however, every time I come in the carpet is filthy and covered in crumbs. It's been months since anyone could eat inside, so one can only assume they either don't own a vacuum, or just don't care? The appliances/stainless steel look very gross and don't appear to be cleaned regularly. The cash registers and tablets are covered in dust. I know staffing shortages are affecting everyone right now, but for goodness sake- an extra 30mn a day on cleaning would make a world of difference. I love the food, but the lack of cleanliness makes me reconsider coming back, because of the visible parts are that dirty, I can only imagine the areas customers can't see. If you don't know me by now...let me just say that I can be frugal when it comes to certain things. Two of these things are wi-fi and bagels. Luckily, BBB caters to both of these. It's ideally located for us at Eastgate - just a hop, skip and jump away from free wi-fi and a hot toasted bagel. Aside from the usual accolades of their stuff, suffice it to say that the bagels here are chewy and less bready than other places which is just the way I like it. I love bagels and while this is no where near to my all time favorite Montreal-style[1] bagel, it does a decent job of satisfying my craving for a chewy style bagel. When you toast them and close your eyes, it's *almost* like you could be sitting on a side street cafe on Mont Royal....almost, if you really stretch it. ;-) Regardless, the best thing about this place is searching through that basket bin in the front - come on, you know what i'm talking about! Day old bagels wrapped up in six packs for only $2.99. Don't be ashamed. They're just as good as the fresh ones...if not better in my opinion. And if you can't take the shame of "basket bin diving" into the day old bagels, don't worry....they've got $5.99 for a dozen fresh ones on Wednesdays too. Typical of the chain, they've got sandwiches, salads, coffee, and the usual works here. If you sign up for their newsletter online, I believe you can get a free bagel as well. My one complaint? The free wi-fi is a bit spotty for my first gen touch. Ahhh Bruegger's, another Chapel Hill landmark. This concept swept through town in the early 90's and has had a great run for the last 30 years. In my opinion, the best Bruegger's era was the Jake Neal/Larz Wassell effort on Franklin St. circa 1996. At it's peak in 96', I remember Daniel Carter used to eat 3-4 bagels after a night of sipping. #fliptherug. Best way I can describe Bruegger's is to borrow a quote from the great football coach Dennis Green, "They are who we thought they were". With the kids out of school this past week, we visited BB's a few times, it doesn't hurt that it's next to daddy's Starbucks. For the kid's it's perfect and the price is right, they like Whole wheat bagels with plain CC #kidseatthedarndestthings. Dad was sad to see that Muenster Cheese is off the menu as turkey with muenster was a go-to for many years. I went with the Herby Turkey which is a staple, I found the sun-dried tomato spread a little overpowering also do you need both CC and Tomato Spread #spreadheavy. The menu is pretty limited, which I bet is a combination of Covid streamlining and corporate oversight. However, would it kill them to have a chicken salad or egg salad option. If it was my business I would lose a few Bagel flavors #cheddarhashbrown? and add a few more protein and veggie options. The line flow is a bit of an issue and they never seem to have enough people working the line. You have to order with the sandwich builder, usually multiple times, and then repeat the order once you get to the cashier. You could easily get away with telling the cashier that you ordered something less expensive #pleasedon'tdothis. Might make sense to order first and then the Sandwich artist has a ticket to work off of. I also found the line set-up at their Durham store had the same issues; they could use a few tips on throughput. #happytohelp. The Bagels are good although they are bit undercooked for my liking but the toaster fixes that. Would love to see more veggies in the Garden Veggie CC, in had like 3 or 4 specks of what might have been a carrot or scallion. I think this is a huge opportunity in the bagel space to make flavored CC that actually tastes like what they are advertised as. If it is a cost issue, raise the price, but lets see some VEGGIES!!! I've been in NYC for the last 10 years and literally lived above Essa Bagels for the last 3 so the bar is set pretty high; the elevators would smell like Onion Bagels at certain times of the day. So I know I'm nitpicking here, but the reality is BB's is an institution that does a good job but just needs a few tweaks to make it shine again like it did in my high school years. Bruggers Bagel is above the fast food chain breakfast place. Unlike McDonald's or Burger King, this shop has various breakfast and lunch meals that will fill you up! Is the food cooked right in front of you? No, but it's pretty fresh! What I really appreciated about my visit here is that I ordered the skinny zesty and the man who made my bagel didn't waste the rest of the bagel he cut, but gave it to me! I personally can't eat a lot of bread for breakfast, so that's why I got the skinny. He was so kind and wrapped up the extra bread for me. I can always appreciate a place that doesn't waste food. The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because this wasn't THE BEST bagel I have ever had. It was good, but not great or the best. I would give the service 5 stars! The people were the best part of my visit. If you want people to be kind to you and get your food to you quickly, then go here. This was the slowest bagel place I've been to. I waited 30 minutes in line, and the line wasn't even that long. They only have 2 people behind the counter making bagels at the slower end of normal pace, and one person who just mans the checkout which is obviously not the rate limiting factor. You'd get faster service at a sit down restaurant. I gave this place 2 stars because their cream cheese was pretty good. The bagels themselves are alright, but about the same as Wegman's. It is a little bit pricey. Today I tried something new, the Skinny Zesty Egg White on a sesame bagel. I really liked it! It comes with Swiss cheese, an egg white, and sun dried tomato paste.
